    My first thought was that this vest looks great, but then I remembered that I already owned two other hydration vests!

      Ha! I now have four...oh hang on I have another lying around somewhere. This one and the Salonon Sense Pro 5 are the best so far...

    My original vest was a Nathan Vapor Krar 4L which could mount 2 front soft flasks and a bladder. But I found the bladder was almost never used, and don't think I have even used a bladder in 3 years. My Nathan vest was starting to show it's age, so I went with a Compressport Ultrarun S Pack EVO 10. It's very light weight, has a great system for cinching down the vest and bottles. But it doesn't specifically hold a bladder, but you could throw one in if you wanted, with the 10L capacity. Ran my last 2 marathons in the Compressport vest self supported without issue.

      I have an older Salomon 12L, but it is heavy. I bought a T-Shirt with some storage capacity from Compresssport last year. I liked it but it was so small I had to send it back. It seems like any companies who make gear for cycling/triathlons have completely different sizing. Even in XXL I struggle to get into cycling clothing and I am an M in other running companies clothing...Also have a stunning Castelli top in 2XL that I can only really squeeze into...

    great review! do the side pockets reach around the other side? the clip-on pouch looks a bit awkward but, glad to hear it's come and doesn't jiggle. very torn between this and the Salomon adv skin 5. The ON vest looks so light but still a bit skeptical since they are not as known as much as Salomon in the hydration vest arena

      The side pockets are not connected to the deep front pockets in front of the water flasks. This works well for me. They measure c. 150mm x 90mm, 6 inches x 3.5 inches and have a stretchy fabric outer and there is a pull cord to tighten them down. I think the Salomon has been on sale for a long time so deals are available online in various places so it is possible to get it for less money than the ON depending on what part of the world you are in. The zip on the credit card/key pocket is the only thing that let the ON vest down for me. But I will only be using the zipped pocket at the start of a run to put valuable in. The zip on the rear stuff sack has a robust zip with a fabric pull cord. Hope this helps...

    This is a nice one but a bit expensive. I have 2.5L and 5L AOINIJIE cheap vests that share a lot of the characteristics of your vest. 5L carries 2L bladder in the back and you can drop in 2x 500ml soft-flask bottles in the front bottles and additional gels and side pockets can hold iPhone and other stuff you want. They cost me $37 and $47 respectively on Amazon. I used to use them more often in 2021 and 2022. Now mostly relying on a single soft-flask on my long runs (with the ability to refill along the course or looping through my car to refill) I take the vests for longer trails however.

      Thanks for the heads up Tolunay. I had a look at their website, lots of interesting running gear, and not expensive. I think my running partner will be wearing one...think he mentions in next weeks very long video...that I am finally finishing filming this morning...

    Superb video with lots of valuable data. Will check On vest. Use Patagonia Slope Runner Vest (red) now. Query: What’s your strategy in water in bottle (how much you fill, how long you keep in fridge before the run, etc.). Thanks!!!

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  27 дней назад +1

      I use 1litre per hour of water on a long run. The marathon will be at a stable temperature and not too warm c.11C/59F. I am a light sipper usually, apart from this years Boston! I will use a maximum of 2 litres and there are water points along the way if needs be. I will put the gels in a fridge if I can find one in the hotel, but keep the water at room temperature. It will heat up on my back I guess. Will report back in a review video in a couple of weeks..

      @@OldManRunner Best of Lucks!!! Thanks much for the tips on water & gel. Not know if you still looking for the kit to go with the On vest. Maybe Soar’s new trail race top could be possibility. There is also a new cap in light blue or sky blue that might be great. Can’t wait for your pre-race video. Thanks!!!!

    Not in the market for a new vest (Still have my trusty harriers from the UK) , however it is good to know the size reference .. I would have thought you a large as you are well muscled .. so this being the case I shall look at the same sort of sizing if and when need to upgrade as the product looks a great piece of kit. Just careful with the loops .. have snapped many on other vest. I would be happy to use it for a 50 miler or less (trail run) as long as poles were not required. you could put most of the mandarory kit in the attached bag while keeping the battery , light etc closer to you on the inside pocket.

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  27 дней назад +1

      I am a bit on the stocky side. And yes the XL in the vest is a good idea. Was thinking the loops will wear first. Luckily there are some spare ones. I can always cannibalise some other vests I have around… if only I could pinch the zips with the strings attached…

    Another quality ON product 💪
    A helpful tip, my trail running friends tell me the trick to a sloshing water bladder, is to turn it upside down and suck excess air out before you put it back in (correct way around).
    All the best in 2 weeks time, Barry 💪👍🫶

    Thank you for the review! I was really trying to understand the differences between the 5 and 10 lt versions, and the photos in the website are not enough.
    I already own a Salomon Adv Skin 5 but I rarely use the hydration pack at the back and end up running with three extra layers of black material on my back 🥵 will purchase the 5lt ON in white 🫠
