Changing the needle jet setting will primarily change mid range jetting. The main jet will control the mixture at full throttle, and should be the starting point for tuning the carburettor for optimum performance. Once the main jet is optimised, the needle jet and pilot jet's should be adjusted to achieve the correct mixture at different throttle openings.
The needle is moved to the middle (third groove ) from second groove from the bottom as standard on most carbs before the the carb was running rich to add to the rev limiter
I took my moped to the shop for a new belt that’s it . I got it back and it could barely make it up hill . Meanwhile they had had it for 3 weeks I took it back and they can’t do anything with it !!? These places are such rip offs I don’t know what to do
Moving the clip up moves the needle down so the thicker part of the needle is in the needle jet leans the mid range out. At full throttle the needle position is insignificant. This would only help if the mixture were rich through the middle. Unless you are correcting a defect, you cannot add more fuel to the same airflow and increase performance. You still need to maintain the stoichiometric air to fuel ration of 14.7:1. The main jet meters fuel flow at wide open throttle, which if you are seeking top end, that would be the area to focus on, IF you increased air flow through the engine.
i stuck a GTR emblem to my white getz with tinted window and weathershield and I have seen other cars trying to race me or give up after they see the back of my car when i catch up at the lights
My wife used to have a Yamaha CW 50. When it needed a new exhaust for the MOT, they installed one with a larger hole on the manifold flange. Just doing that increased the max speed to around 40MPH. We didn't touch anything else.
Moving the snap ring up on the needle like shown will seat it further into the main jet channel, that restricts it, moving the snap ring down towards the pointy end allows more fuel to flow.
So how much was the scooter slowed down when you weakened the mixture by putting the needle further down into the needle jet? So if you are reading this then remember that the needle is tapered, the further up the circlip is , the lower the needle sits in the needle jet, the wider the needle taper into the bottom jet, the less airgap for the fuel vapour to be drawn up. Therefore the less fuel up into the venturi intake. The smaller the bang, the less power out. Oh dear!
As a mechanic I can tell you that A) more fuel does not mean more power. It just means your running the engine richer, it will use more fuel. B) more importantly you move the clip UP making the needle longer (lower position) and closer to its seat and therefore your running the engine leaner not richer. On 2 strike engines running the mix too lean can cause permanent damage to the piston and other components. Please do t follow the advice he’s giving with the carby. As for the wire that he carelessly cut instead of just removing from the plug, I’d want to see more information about what it is, how it works and what are the consequences of removing it before doing that. There is a reason why highly qualified engineers do these things so removing and cutting “this black thing” and “that metal thingL and “the yellow thing” and “this bit” etc is a great way to quickly end up with a bike that needs expensive repair work.
From what I understand, that’s the reference wire that tells the CDI when to fire. With the wire cut, how will the CDI know when to fire the plug or advance?
I want to see a before and after video because I can’t understand how the bike runs with that wire cut. There are 5 or 6 wires depending on the set up. One or two grounds, power from the stator, kill switch wire, wire to the coil and the pick up wire. You’re cutting the pick up wire. The only wire that tells the CDI when to fire.
Ok let me get few things straight for you who have never worked on your bikes 1.look for info about your bike on internet, you will pretty much always find out what is restricted what is worth doing and how to do it 2.if not necessary do NOT modify stock parts, you might need them someday and the resell value is a lot higher. Usually aftermarket parts also give more boost to your bikes performance 3.Carburetor settings. Extremely important especially on 2 strokes. always adjust your carburetor settings after modifying your bikes performance. If you don't do this you will have really high chance of blowing up your engine + you won't gain the max performance you could be getting.
I have worked on 18 types of scooter from tao tao, kymco to Jl50qt-6 . Every CDI wiring I have seen has a red/black wire, yellow/black, blue/white, white/black , green/white and green. I have never seen a pink wire anywhere on a scooter.. Now the green/white stripe is called a trigging ground. It act like a rev eliminator. You can do away with that one. But must scooters don't even use it nor do they have a wire plugged into it.. know your facts before making a video and looking like an dumbass.
revs are controlled by the CVT clutch spring and rollers, cutting that wire just removes the speed sensor from the loop. You also need to pop out the restriction plate where the rollers are , doing that lets the scoot do about 38 mph on the flat . Dont lean off the mixture like has been done here , engine death :-)
Sounds pointless, as stock I can already hit 40mph+ anyways on flat ground. What I find helps increase speed without mod is to back off full throttle to the point you are maintaining your speed then SLOWLY give it more throttle I have gone over 50mph/80kmh on flat ground on pure stock no mods. If you are getting only 38 you are doing something wrong.
@@patthewoodboy Mine is 1.8 horse power according to the title. Both my old Tao Tao (ATM50-A1), and now my Denali (yongfu) had no problem hitting 40 mph but only if I ease off the throttle and gently ease into it. If I just max out the throttle I barely hit 20-25. Pretty sure both of those are also chinese scooters and the translations in the guide are poorly written. Like "cer tain" shouldn't be 2 words and "outtak" should be exhaust or at least spell take right when they spell intake correctly. ect.. Upgrading the Tao Tao to 100cc with the big bore kit let me do about 40-50 mph (up to 80 kmh on the speedometer). It might not be restricted I never checked to confirm.
@@patthewoodboyhiya there I’ve got a Yamaha Aerox 2018 4 stroke I put on a custom racing exhaust and it made it max out at 38mph and when I’m maxed out I hear a wineing noise is that the restrictor from making the bike go faster ? Also do u know how to D restrict it ?
just done exactly as show in the video and got my moped from doing 30mph to around 45mph and is much much quicker at take off the fuel consumption has gone up around 30% been riding for a week like this and done around 130 miles still going good, !!
Only if the response in PART THROTTLE is not as desired, you move the clip UP on the needle to get LEANER and DOWN to get RICHER. So in this example you will get LESS fuel so it will get LEANER. Its best felt by erratic engine behaviour at part throttle: If its hesitating at part throttle, you need to get richer - move clip down one ring. If its 8-stroking (or 4-stroking if a 2-stroke engine), you need to get leaner - move clip up one ring.
The needle adjustment has the most effect on midrange power. Jetting is more important to proper carb tuning on full throttle runs. If the scooter acts bad at part throttle, then it's time to adjust the needle. At part throttle, If it hesitates but then cleans up when you let off the throttle, you're lean (move washer towards longer side of needle). If it just hesitates and doesn't clean up when you let off, then it's rich(move needle toward shorter end of needle)
All you did by moving the clip on the needle up one is lean the engine out which makes the engine run hotter and wear quicker. DONT DO THIS !! Placing the clip in a lower position raises the needle enriching the emulsion tube with more fuel and makes the engine run richer. This setting allows the engine to run cooler .The video is sorry and it's incorrect info. Do the research and get the facts. NEVER use a electric driver on carb screws !!!
Isn't it incredible that this guy is telling over 280K people (so far) completely bogus, screwed up info?! He doesn't even know that it's called a needle valve. How many people have ruined their scooters by doing this? Jeez... As you know, James, your assessment is 100% accurate. I'm just seconding what you said. PEOPLE, DON'T DO THIS! If your engine runs hot (which it will be inclined to do by dropping the needle) then you'll probably end up blowing the thing up, and that would be a shame. Snip the restrictor if you must, but leave the needle alone!
Your knowledge of technical terminology is legendary "There is a black fing and a yellow fing!".... Priceless! And moving the jet needle clip to a higher position will add less fuel to the cylinder thinning out the fuel-air mixture, reducing performance, and possibly leading to overheating and engine seizure, but since you know what you're doing, you go ahead!
One recommendation that I would make for ANY moped new or old is to adjust the valve clearance to the factory settings. I have a 2013 Kymco Agility 50 and just adjusted the valves to the factory specs of 0.051 mm and it has more power than it ever had from the factory. Sometimes these scooters leave the factory with valves that are not adjusted properly. The difference was significant.
Hi my grandson has the same bike as you his problem other than it's slow us it starts up great but not move for two to three minutes as it not rev up till it's warm up a little
The needle mod you did will make the carb leaner... If you want it a bit richer the clip needs to go lower, making the needle move up a bit. That will increase fuel to potensially increase combustion
Buddy of mine races these things, the best "cheap" way to go about adding 10mph is to Port your intake hole on your head, then cut about 1/2 inch off the access plate on your clutch ON BOTH SIDES so it's even, and then run them on alcohol injection systems. He's doing 65 on a 50cc the clutch shave allows the engine to reach a higher rpm before engaging and thus a faster acceleration. Porting the intake allows for amazing overall fuel flow into the cylinder and actually added roughly 4 hp!
lifting the clip one notch on the needle will weaken the mixture meaning more air less fuel rather than making the mixture richer, more fuel less air which could cause the ped to run weak on 2/3 throttle to full throttle as that is when the needle / main jet have most effect which could cause the ped to seize so not a good idea. Unless you have changed the exhaust, intake etc there should be no reason to lift or lower the needle or change the jetting of the carb It WILL NOT GO FASTER!. The main restriction in a ped is in the cdi (rev limiter/timing advancement), exhaust (restricting washer) and variator(a washer/ spacer which stops the pulleys from closing right up which stops the ped from reaching a high enough gear so it just revs out)
+Dwainpipe21 Hi, I saw that you know something about the functions of the scooter and I would like to ask you if you maybe know which is the optimal ratio fuel/air or in other words, I put on my 50cc 4T a 72kit and upgraded also the main jet first from 85 to 88 and went better and then to 92 and goes even better but when I am in mid-mid/high throttle it bogs for an instant as it doesn't get enough air but then accelerate good... I tried various combinations of head valve settings and it helped a little, but the "bogging" when I go 50-80% throttle persists... do you think that I need a larger air flow, so a carburetor with a larger air intake so the fuel gets enough air to explode properly?
turn your mixture screw from full closed to 3 and a half turns open and that should help some if not then try getting a Klein carb they are cheap on Amazon
@@tt-mt7rn I agree, if you want a scooter to go faster than 40-45, buy one that is made to do faster. These scooters aren't stable enough to ride at 55mph much less 70. one rock, one pothole. 911 on speed dial please!!!
Many changes to my 50cc (which now has a top speed of 55mph). However, cutting wires & messing with the needle valve wern't part of my changes. These shortcuts will probably get you an extra 2mph and send your scooter to an early grave................ NOT RECOMMENDED.
Michael Hyes Do you have a 2 or 4 stroke engine? If it's a 4 stroke, I don't think you'll get anymore than 40-45mph without fitting a bigger bore. As for 2 stroke, the set-up mentioned by ArminBecirevic looks on the money & pretty much what I've done
WOW.. it worked. Cut the blue and the white wire to go even faster. It advances timing and you get more power. You pop wheelies like there is no tomorrow.
This just seems like something that going to bit you in the ass eventually. The pink wire is there to stop you from over revving your scooter and doing damage to your motor. In most cases this only limits your top speed when going downhill, as on flat ground most scooters don't have the power to hit the rev limiter. So please people watching this, keep your rev limiter installed it's there for a reason. And second. Adding fuel isn't going to do much if you don't increase the air flow to go with it. All that going to do it make your scooter run rich, have worse fuel economy, and in some cases depending on altitude and air density, actually make your scooter slower and run like shit. If you want to make your scooter faster, you're going to need to do actually engine and part upgrades. Little things like this almost always come with a nasty compromise somewhere down the line.
to top it off moving the needle washer up is going to cut down fuel flow (lean it down) washer to the bottom is max fuel, higher rev with less fuel is not going to increase speed thats for sure
Actually the Rev thing whatever it is, is put in factory to limit your moped to 35mph because it's illegal for a company to sell a 49cc moped that goes over 35mph, it won't damage anything it's just there to keep your bike at factory speed 😊
I surmise you yourself couldn't have done better. Maybe you sir should sharpen your perception skills. This man is giving sound, monetary advice. School up son! 🤣
I should have mentioned the benefits. Properly adjusted valves will keep the engine running as efficiently as possible which means better fuel economy, increased power and torque, slightly increased top speed (assuming that the scooter is deresricted), better throttle response, and the engine will typically be easier to start.
Hello. I've just done the bit with the washer as my moped does not have a restricter. It actually has made it faster! Thanks so much. I've always been a slug around my friends... Still am but not by a lot! :)
🤪i came across this video when i got my scooter a couple years ago. I dont know how/if cutting that wire in the start actually does anything but if it wasn't for the comments i would have leaned out a six month old scooter and potentially froze up the piston causing more trouble than was needed. On the upside i have learned a lot as a result. Thanks all.
The rev limiter is in the CDI box there are unlimited rev cdi boxes for these gy6 motors they are blue aluminum with fins and an led showing spark, wont make much difference unless you install the bigbore kit with it then you need to re jet your carb. The carbs from china are capped over the fuel / air mixture screw you can drill two small holes side by side and use a small flat head driver and easily twist the little brass cap off. the normal setting is 1 1/2 turns out from all the way in, if you find you need to turn the screw in further then you need a smaller pilot jet and vise versa. You are adjusting the main jet with the needle mainly used to get rid of flat spots in the acceleration both of these adjustments will be different for every one depending on altitude, temp, exhaust size and intake flow, and carb venturi size. Those CV carbs that come stock are crap though with little to no tuning. you can drill out all the screws that are capped off to prevent you from getting in it or just buy the upgraded "so called" high performance carb.
if you want to do it right get a unrestricted cdi box and install gauges with a tach. the cdi limits rpm to 6k so you can't go faster than 35. change it with regular one and you can go at least 45 on a 50cc without going over 8k rpm limit.
This is my sort guy!! He keeps me in a job with lean engines. If you dont know what are the parts your removing and the theory of the carby dont give false info.
yeah for real lol. I went to school for motorcycle tech but I dig scooters. it pains me to see the wrong info out there, but my wallet loves the easy money.
ive been repairing these chinese scooters and mopeds for 12 years now and always find the reason they dont run correctly is when somebody has messed with the needle setting.
You're better off installing a bbk, aftermarket carb and exhaust, and changing cvt rollers, otherwise derestricting alone will not do a whole lot on a 50cc. You'll also want to richen, not lean out the air/fuel mixture. These things will still run cheaper than buying a larger displacement scooter.
I never laughed so hard in my life reading comments,my scooter may never go fast but i got a very good laugh out of it.thats all riding is all about.having fun
You actualy get it..its all about having fun..I used to ride sport and dirt bikes.i got hit by a truck and almost died..now I'm happy on my 50 cc.but mine looks like a motorcycle...but either way I'd be happy to have fin on 2 wheels...I have a leg injury for life now and am technically cripple so a small slow light bike is what the dr. Ordered lol
The Ginger Mechanic I thought that, thus causing the engine to run hotter, decreasing engine life massively. Though, anyone that follows this advice does so at their own risk.
in some situations running leaner will improve performance but this needs to be diagnosed by carrying out a "plug chop" but that will indicate information about the main jet the needle is just for the introduction of fuel from the main jet to the engine so leaning it off without main jet alteration will just cause it to pick up well until its at full throttle then it will just overfuel (like most of these mopeds do)
Before messing with the needle I would advise you buy a little bigger main jet and see how that affects it but just don’t go straight to the needle cause if you allow too much fuel you could blow up your engine
Brilliant. Your descriptions were easy to follow, gonna try it later. Quick question, though. I recently brought a Peugeot V Clic 62 plate. I brought some cleaning solution from a motorbike retailer and put it in when I filled up. About 1 - 2 days later I'm having trouble with acceleration, barely making it to 10 to 15 mph! Could the reason be that it's dislodged so much gunk it's choked up the carburettor?!? Any help needed as I'm at my wits end with this bike! Also, how to "fix" the electric start on it. When you hold the left brake while holding the electric starter, it is turning over, trying to start but it seems to be missing that last bit of "Omph!" Please help!!! 🤬😤🤪👍🏻
Thanks mate, worked a treat. Given me that bit of extra Umph up the hills. - Yeah as someone already mentioned, always disconnect the battery before playing with electrics - Cheers.
What if use use change the CDI to a high performance one with no restriction. Would that in theory make your scooter faster without damaging it. Any advice on this will be appreciated. Thanks in Advance.
I think he's actually moving the needle to the factory setting. On most of these bikes the factory setting is the middle notch. So, it would of been running a little rich in the first place so this particular bike might run better after changing the needle setting back to the middle notch. Give the guy props, it's hard to make these videos sometimes. Especially when you need both hands to do something and you can't always get a friend to hold the camera.
It would've been a good idea to ride it at top speed before and after your modifications. I'm not a mechanic so I can't comment but I do know all doubt would be eliminated if you could give us a before and after.
You float is stuck open. That is usually why you leak fuel from the over flow drain. Either that or you have a dirty carb from it sitting and you need to clean the jets, fuel passages and checking the float needle for fit and function. Are you trying to start it when it leaks or all the time?
remove the restrictor plate by the air intake manifold and Throttle body The engine will get more air But you might need to do some tuning and order for it to get more gas because it will run Lean and not get enough gas and to much air You might need to adjust ignition for more spark to get more spark so the engine does not get flooded with too much gas and Has the proper amount of spark
You can by de-restricted CDI's pretty cheap (around $20us). Especially if you are concerned about cutting into the wiring harness. On the chinese bikes, they all use pretty much two types. AC and DC. So just go to your local scooter shop with your CDI and hand and match it up. The plugs are different on the AC fired ones so you won't get them mixed up. It's one of the easiest mods you can make. Then keep the old one as a spare as they do fail often.
@@patrickdoyle5761 euro 5 uses an ECU, euro 4 uses CDI's, however if u have a euro4 Injected bike then I suppose it would work on a euro 5 because euro 5 must be FI engines
When you raise the clip on the needle your leaning out your engine. Might seem like more power but engines run great when lean,..right before they blow up. Keep the needle at the bottom
It´s Important that you check your sparkplug after modifying your CDI. Go for a full throttle run and hit the killswitch with the throttle is fully open At FULL THROTTLE, you will need a BIGGER FUEL JET if its white and/or grey - and a SMALLER one, if its black and/or wet.
It retards the ignition (spark). Additionally if you have a 2 stroke models they often put restricters in the exhaust especially in 125 models so the only way to get around that is to cut it take out the restricter in the exhaust and weld it back up or buy a sports exhaust which are free from the cone restricters they put in.
just seen you was making your needle leaner... it actually is restricting it and making it slower. not to mention it will make your engine run hotter as its starving for fresh gas. :/ on the contrary move the clip down (raise the needle) it will make it run richer (as long as you open the airbox too) and that will give you power. :D
also you can drill another hole on the other side of the needle to allow your slide to get more air as this is a cv carb it opens a butterfly valve with the throttle and needs the velocity to open the slide unlike flat slide carbs.
This is what you do. Number one: don't cut that pink wire leave it the hell alone. 2: move the needle washer up two.3: get an exhaust and shorty intake filter. 4: jet it (usely just and 80 bump it up to so 84 size jet or 85. 5: racing cdi box(will make it rev out more but safer than the pink wire) These 50cc enignes aren't really made for modding but what I just told you will make a 10 20 mph diffrents.
Move the Ring down, not up. And I don't think that will help much until u put bigger jets in it, also you have to derestrict the air flow and exhaust, and upgrade to a better spark plug.
This being a 4 stroke 50cc, there is no way to get it going 100 kmh without having a really long gearing and a damn steep downhill and no electric rev limiter. My 2 stroke 50cc scooter, with a removed exaust plug and all other air flow plus gone as well, only tops out at 85 kmh, and that is really fast for a stock, 50cc 2 STROKE. Now Imagine a lousy 4 stroke
For everyone saying leaning it out will blow the engine no you're wrong. These are so restrictive with the tiny muffler and enormous air box with the tiny intake hole in it. It needs leaned a little. If you're going aftermarket on exhaust and intake I'd most definitely re jet to richen it up some. Don't be stupid these are 2 hp machines.
IF YOU SEE A PASTIC SCREW when go to fux with the needle, turn to the LEFT about a quarter turn to release it(careful get chewed up EASY!). You may even have a tamper proof needle, where there is no C clip, and no slots, you're only option is to add washers, preferably plastic, or brass. I'm not a mechanic, just someone that ran into this problem once.
Thanks for sharing your 'hack'. Word of warning though...you want to raise the needle to richen the mixture. There fore move the spring clip to the next lower notch, which will raise the needle in the bore.
Nice to see one of these old RUclips videos where people aren't obsessed with the camera, lighting and sound setup. I had a good laugh. Fucking seagulls😂
if you move that lock ring up, it will run leaner, what means it gets less fuel at mid throttle.. so you changed the needle in the wrong direction. also normally you just change the main jet, so the scooter gets more gasoline at all throttle positions. when moving the needle it gets more gasoline mid throttle but the same amount as before at full throttle. i highly advice everyone to not mess up their carburator adjustments because of this nonsense video. you really should know something about these engines and adjustments before you make an tutorial to youtube..
What about the spring. I’m sure the metering rod needs to come out more to give a little more fuel. When you moved the clip up it put the lettering rod farther into the hole leaning it
here in UK we have to buy these scooters RESTRICTED!!! this is exactly what my local dealer told me to do if I wanted to DE-RESTRICT my scooter, seen as I hold a full licence . maybe in US or other countries you don't have the restrictions but here in UK we do, good video ma man ignore the idiots trolling you... keep it up fella
carl stannard to derestrict a 50cc you need to be 17 years old or over hold a CBT certificate , provisional license no no dont need a full licence ride a derestricted 50cc scooter as for CDI you need adjustable unrestricted cdi all this does alter revs so to maximum revs for bike is allowed a mechanic which need do this
You only really need to cut the wire (wich isnt always pink, check with your scoots forums). But if you really want higher top speed you need to mess a bit with the CVT (the thing that gets the power from the engine to the wheel) plus this is a better option than messing with the engine because it wont explode on you. To get the best results you'd probably want to get aftermarket Pulleys that will be adjusted for higher top speed, but beware it will be not the cheapest and may decrease acceleration (from what i understand theres a sort of pin that u can replace with a smoothed down one and thats kinda cheap its just im not sure if all scoots have this nor how affective it is). Strongly recommend to not mess with the engine as it has a bunch of controls that are desgined to specifically work with factory ratios. The moped will run weirdly and can have problems, i can say because i had a moped with an aftermarket cdi that let me rev more and the piston rings blew up on it. Biggest recommendaition is to just drive it for most of the seasson and only at the very end to do stupid stuff.
May be a stupid question, but what is a prep licence? Or whatever you said at the beginning of the video? Because I have a moped, insured and on provisional, but it is illegal to ride it derestricted right?
great idea, bypass the rev limiter so when you hold it wide open you'll have your minute of fun before your engine decides to blow up, and if you have a modern honda or yamaha 50cc, there's a little washer in the tailpipe, take a flat screwdriver and a hammer and knock it out, you get better airflow, also messing with the float valve on the carb won't do anything besides make the scooter a wee bit more responsive, and if you want power, buy a 100cc engine and just put a 50,cc sticker on it. or bore out the block to put a 80 cc piston in.
Did you ever find that spring that popped out from the carburetor? Also, what is the result in mph improvement? Can it help get the scooter to about 55, roughly 10 mph or more over the previous limit? (Assuming no wind.) And will this method work on a scooter that has Continuously Variable Transmission? (I assume so because this video doesn't change the transmission at all.) Thank you.
Moving the needle adjustment in that direction will make less gas come out of the jet resulting in lower speeds.the needle needed to be adjusted to come out further.
that pin regulates the fuel flow in the carburettor... it doesnt "derestrict a 50cc scooter"... and after you do that, you need to modify the air intake so that the spark plug doesnt flood with petrol...
lol, be careful of taking technical advice from someone who calls things 'this bit' 'the black boring bit' 'that yellow thing' 'using this' and wouldn't it be the speedo that would send information about whether the bike is standing still? :-(
I could have been technical but whats the point. There is to much video on youtube like that useing complicated terminology that the average person dont realy need or care about. They just what to know how to make it faster without all the bull shit. And thats what im trying to do on my channel. And no it would not be the speedo that sends the information. As the speedo is wired to the front weel witch would never move if the bike is on its stand. Nice troll tho hope you had a nice day.
but surly if your so stupid you really shouldn't give any advice, maybe its a simple case that understanding complicated terminology for the average simply states your average ability to common sense and you really don't have a clue. Did you woke up one morning and from a hunch manged to come up with the dimmest idear you could think of , which in a nutshell is the best you can manage to fuck your scooter up.. DO NOT DO THIS ITS THERE FOR A REASON.
My needle doesnt have those adjustment grooves. Not sure if mine has that pink wire, either. I'll cut it if it does. I have no fear of blowing this thing up; I've already installed NOS on it. Right now, the carb isn't letting gas through, even though ive rebuilt it twice and installed all new fuel lines and cleaned out the gas tank. It'll run on starting fluid, but wont start on its own fuel, no matter how long it cranks over. So, for me, it has to run first before it blows. Good video anyways, thanks! Watched it twice now.
A combustion engine is basically an air compressor. The more air that can flow through it, the faster it will go. Porting the intake and exhaust as well as boring and stroking will give the maximum power output. Not butchering wires and jets lol
+david Anti Illegals Metering rod? No it's the needle rod seat or venturi metering rod. In some cases the position of the venturi needle seat does increase the speed. Most cases this dude is a boob. Most of these carbs are NT in origins I have found a jetting proxy. I got a big box of jets from .010 up 65... never had a 65 jet work yet. 40 on down to a 22 which a freakin odd ball size makes mopeds and these motorized bikes I make do wheel stands... a little race gas does wonders too.
Tim Yeakel You know what , remembering that time I screwed with a 50 cc carb ,I'll say you are right... Brain was in another area that night dude. Thanks bro.
That is Why is has positions David. Altitude heat and other conditions. The metering rod controls it. The factories seal the shit tell you nothing makes it illegal some factory standards to play with it. If not explore to let me know about jetting advice..
In an old Q-jet it would be called needles and you know that that any carb part made with rubber like that is a Diaphragm no matter what the purpose is. It works off vacuum.
Ah, yes, do this in Sweden - and see when the cops take your moped and drill a hole right through the cylinder head and cylinder. Not to mention the hefty fine you get.. Sure, it's not "illegal", but in Sweden it is - unless you register the bike as a light motorcycle. Also, looking at your carburator being of membrane type - I guess it's a 4-stroke engine perhaps, or if not - it's a china made moped. None of the bigger brands use a cheap carburator like that..
Lowering the needle leans the mixture which makes it run faster , But will probably only run for a few hours before it blows up. Don't do this . Do correct mods like bigger carb properly jetted , better breathing filter, performance exhaust .
Thanks for posting. Starting next July scooters have to be registered so I'm sure a lot of people will want this done for a little more speed since they have to register them anyways.

Thank u!👍

Your advice worked!!
Exactly,I was like wth is he doing. Lol
brilliant advice mate my ped is now doing 73mph uphill and 33 mph down !!!
This makes no sense
Going faster uphill than downhill?? Wtf?
Crazy isn't it !
+Peter Olley xDD
lol
So how much was the scooter slowed down when you weakened the mixture by putting the needle further down into the needle jet?
So if you are reading this then remember that the needle is tapered, the further up the circlip is , the lower the needle sits in the needle jet, the wider the needle taper into the bottom jet, the less airgap for the fuel vapour to be drawn up. Therefore the less fuel up into the venturi intake. The smaller the bang, the less power out. Oh dear!
Exactly! this nimrod leaned it by moving the clip up, it's a CD type carb the needle needs to move up so the clip needs to move down
Not necessarily any power loss...but certainly will burn out the piston very soon.
Yep.
your right
yaaa he moved that the wrong way he was explaining ,,,,,,,,
As a mechanic I can tell you that
A) more fuel does not mean more power.
Absolutely spot on mate 👏 Well explained.
You dropped the needle lower by raising the clip...that would allow LESS fuel.
I thought I was the only 1 thinking that
same here
yes the clip needs to be lower also I don't see how that would make it go faster
Correct!
bigger explosion? ??
Ok let me get few things straight for you who have never worked on your bikes
1.look for info about your bike on internet, you will pretty much always find out what is restricted what is worth doing and how to do it
2.if not necessary do NOT modify stock parts, you might need them someday and the resell value is a lot higher. Usually aftermarket parts also give more boost to your bikes performance
3.Carburetor settings. Extremely important especially on 2 strokes. always adjust your carburetor settings after modifying your bikes performance. If you don't do this you will have really high chance of blowing up your engine + you won't gain the max performance you could be getting.
"always adjust your carburetor settings" what do you mean by this? I think this is safe.
@@scriptles yours isnt restricted. Mine is a chinese engined scoot with only 2.8 horse power so 38mph is all it can do
@@patthewoodboy Mine is 1.8 horse power according to the title.
The same bike sold in Europe has no restriction , it seems the exhaust has a restrictor plate and throttle restriction as well as the limiter.
just done exactly as show in the video and got my moped from doing 30mph to around 45mph and is much much quicker at take off the fuel consumption has gone up around 30% been riding for a week like this and done around 130 miles still going good, !!
Safraz Adam Abhram updates? Did your scooter continue running good? I wanna do this to my scoot
Is this the same with 4 stroke
@@miapowell6463 The scooter shown is a 4 stroke.
Only if the response in PART THROTTLE is not as desired, you move the clip UP on the needle to get LEANER and DOWN to get RICHER. So in this example you will get LESS fuel so it will get LEANER. Its best felt by erratic engine behaviour at part throttle:
If its hesitating at part throttle, you need to get richer - move clip down one ring.
John Detwiler Thanks for the backup !!
is cutting the wire worth doing ?
tyler wilkes No ! This just eliminates the rev limiter . You probably will never reach the rev limit anyway.
James79561
Is this the same thing as removing the governor? And is that a safe/recommeded thing to do if I want to get my 50cc scooter up the hill?
Your knowledge of technical terminology is legendary "There is a black fing and a yellow fing!".... Priceless!
And moving the jet needle clip to a higher position will add less fuel to the cylinder thinning out the fuel-air mixture, reducing performance, and possibly leading to overheating and engine seizure, but since you know what you're doing, you go ahead!
Leaving out the spring for weight reduction.
🤣😂
One recommendation that I would make for ANY moped new or old is to adjust the valve clearance to the factory settings. I have a 2013 Kymco Agility 50 and just adjusted the valves to the factory specs of 0.051 mm and it has more power than it ever had from the factory. Sometimes these scooters leave the factory with valves that are not adjusted properly. The difference was significant.
How do I do that?
Do u have a link too them ? 👍
Made my scooter go in reverse do not reccomend
lmao
Lol
Lmfaoo how
Hahaha
J C 😂😂😂😂
Buddy of mine races these things, the best "cheap" way to go about adding 10mph is to Port your intake hole on your head, then cut about 1/2 inch off the access plate on your clutch ON BOTH SIDES so it's even, and then run them on alcohol injection systems. He's doing 65 on a 50cc the clutch shave allows the engine to reach a higher rpm before engaging and thus a faster acceleration. Porting the intake allows for amazing overall fuel flow into the cylinder and actually added roughly 4 hp!
How big did he make the port?
@@joshe2420 big enough
@Not Expat Joe porting gains as any gains differ from engine to engine, and you can also gain some rpm in very restricted engines when you do porting.
You l😊
Too much work on a kids bike... just buy a real bike?
lifting the clip one notch on the needle will weaken the mixture meaning more air less fuel rather than making the mixture richer, more fuel less air which could cause the ped to run weak on 2/3 throttle to full throttle as that is when the needle / main jet have most effect which could cause the ped to seize so not a good idea.
Do I just leave the spring on the floor like you did!! or do I put it back in..LOL.....
Gary Burrows I was wondering if anyone caught that 😂😂😂😂😂
Gary Burrows hey that's what I said,!!
Gary Burrows do not do what this clown did to his scooter. All you are going to do is go buy a new engine.
@@tt-mt7rn I agree, if you want a scooter to go faster than 40-45, buy one that is made to do faster. These scooters aren't stable enough to ride at 55mph much less 70. one rock, one pothole. 911 on speed dial please!!!
😂
Many changes to my 50cc (which now has a top speed of 55mph). However, cutting wires & messing with the needle valve wern't part of my changes. These shortcuts will probably get you an extra 2mph and send your scooter to an early grave................ NOT RECOMMENDED.
jim how did you make it run at 55?
Michael Hyes Mine does 57mph, you can see my video Aprilia SR50 LC Racing and there is my setup in the description
Jim Cook mine does 70 :P yamaha aerox r 2007
Tormod Fyhn 50cc?
WOW..
Little things like this almost always come with a nasty compromise somewhere down the line.
thank u for that so I need to upgrades to the engine I wish I had a partner who has a moped
to top it off moving the needle washer up is going to cut down fuel flow (lean it down) washer to the bottom is max fuel, higher rev with less fuel is not going to increase speed thats for sure
Actually the Rev thing whatever it is, is put in factory to limit your moped to 35mph because it's illegal for a company to sell a 49cc moped that goes over 35mph, it won't damage anything it's just there to keep your bike at factory speed 😊
Fulgonsta do they upgrade your 50cc to act like a 150cc
+Gem Mitchell wha ?

Thanks all.
Your welcome
Might be a good idea to disconnect the battery first?
There are now 1 million people with a scooter that doesn't run properly
Lmfao i got a 1986 Honda elite150 the digital speed says 50mph i would rather not mess with this if it was a china o hell yeah all day.
1.9 million
2million now
Lmaaao

I did this too. My scooter 50 cc goes 100 mph now. Almost got pulled over... good thing i jumped off the bike. Ghost ride the whip.
This video should be called "How to burn a hole in your piston"
Rob, lost and late hahahaha
Lol fr
No crap this poor dude gots lots of skooling yet to learn
That's funny .like that comment
this is pretty safe, its only restricted because it would be too fast for safety regulations
if you want to do it right get a unrestricted cdi box and install gauges with a tach. the cdi limits rpm to 6k so you can't go faster than 35. change it with regular one and you can go at least 45 on a 50cc without going over 8k rpm limit.
Ordered lol
moving the washer on the needle up will lean the the main jet off so de-creasing the fuel going into the engine..........
The Ginger Mechanic I thought that, thus causing the engine to run hotter, decreasing engine life massively. Though, anyone that follows this advice does so at their own risk.
+The Ginger Mechanic running it leaner makes it faster at least
in some situations running leaner will improve performance but this needs to be diagnosed by carrying out a "plug chop" but that will indicate information about the main jet the needle is just for the introduction of fuel from the main jet to the engine so leaning it off without main jet alteration will just cause it to pick up well until its at full throttle then it will just overfuel (like most of these mopeds do)
Before messing with the needle I would advise you buy a little bigger main jet and see how that affects it but just don’t go straight to the needle cause if you allow too much fuel you could blow up your engine
According to modders, cdi and pollenators change might help if you follow basic instructions. I really do hate it when limiter limit my ride downhill.
Curious would adjusting the ring position give a small increase in acceleration even without disconnecting the rpm restrictor.
What if use use change the CDI to a high performance one with no restriction. Would that in theory make your scooter faster without damaging it. Any advice on this will be appreciated. Thanks in Advance.
Amazing camera skills and fings
I think he's actually moving the needle to the factory setting. On most of these bikes the factory setting is the middle notch. So, it would of been running a little rich in the first place so this particular bike might run better after changing the needle setting back to the middle notch. Give the guy props, it's hard to make these videos sometimes. Especially when you need both hands to do something and you can't always get a friend to hold the camera.
It would've been a good idea to ride it at top speed before and after your modifications. I'm not a mechanic so I can't comment but I do know all doubt would be eliminated if you could give us a before and after.
proberly only went about 4 mph faster if at all!
good advice mate my ped is now doing 73mph uphill and 33 downhill!!!
Found your tune up advise invaluble as ive just tuned up my rotivator.
Do you have any advise on growing turnips?.
Lots of cow shit , always good for turnips that.
Invaluable ? Your being at best sarcastic, surely ? Trev NZ 🇳🇿🤔
Then keep the old one as a spare as they do fail often.
hi, do you know if a derestricted euro 4 cdi/ecu will work on a euro 5 scooter?
@@patrickdoyle5761 euro 5 uses an ECU, euro 4 uses CDI's, however if u have a euro4 Injected bike then I suppose it would work on a euro 5 because euro 5 must be FI engines
Would using a racing cdi D restrict my Yamaha Aerox 50cc 4 stroke or do I need to take out the little washer we’re the variator is ?
When you raise the clip on the needle your leaning out your engine. Might seem like more power but engines run great when lean,..right before they blow up. Keep the needle at the bottom
raising the cuirclip on the needle reduces fuel, needs to be lowered. plus main jet changes and carb filters and exhaust changes need to be tried!
also you can drill another hole on the other side of the needle to allow your slide to get more air as this is a cv carb it opens a butterfly valve with the throttle and needs the velocity to open the slide unlike flat slide carbs.
please share more karma where exactly you drill it?
vawn davis
If you move that fuse and that rubber ring towards the tip of the nail, you increase the gas flow
So you don't need that spring you lost?
All of a sudden everyone is a mechanic 😂
Although the look on people's faces when I was on a highway doing 60 plus miles an hour on a little scooter was hilarious
Don't be stupid these are 2 hp machines.
thanks for the laugh ! .. did you ever find and place the spring back in ?
IF YOU SEE A PASTIC SCREW when go to fux with the needle, turn to the LEFT about a quarter turn to release it(careful get chewed up EASY!). You may even have a tamper proof needle, where there is no C clip, and no slots, you're only option is to add washers, preferably plastic, or brass. I'm not a mechanic, just someone that ran into this problem once.
DOES DRILLING A SMALL HOLE IN THE EXZAUST PIPE MAKE IT GO FASTER
Thanks for sharing your 'hack'. Word of warning though...you want to raise the needle to richen the mixture. There fore move the spring clip to the next lower notch, which will raise the needle in the bore.
if you out a switch on the Pink cable you can turn on the restriction when the cops are coming!
No but you can put a switch in. Out a switch will not work.
It's legal to deristrict a moped in the uk
how fast is it legal to drive on a moped in uk :) ?
30mph is max legal speed
Damn how does the gravity work were you live ???
There are so many 'experts' on here I fear your comment may fall on deaf ears! lol , by experts I actually mean spactards of course.
It's highly possible.. well at least i gave it a try! Hope that i'll save even one engine from seizure, due too lean mix lol.
What about the spring. I’m sure the metering rod needs to come out more to give a little more fuel. When you moved the clip up it put the lettering rod farther into the hole leaning it
here in UK we have to buy these scooters RESTRICTED!!! this is exactly what my local dealer told me to do if I wanted to DE-RESTRICT my scooter, seen as I hold a full licence . maybe in US or other countries you don't have the restrictions but here in UK we do, good video ma man ignore the idiots trolling you... keep it up fella
carl stannard to derestrict a 50cc you need to be 17 years old or over hold a CBT certificate , provisional license no no dont need a full licence ride a derestricted 50cc scooter as for CDI you need adjustable unrestricted cdi all this does alter revs so to maximum revs for bike is allowed a mechanic which need do this
Rose Evans it’s 16 years old*
everything in britian is restricted because you suck
Just wondering if any one thought to look at the head pipe for a washer?
Biggest recommendaition is to just drive it for most of the seasson and only at the very end to do stupid stuff.
he never put back the spring
You don't know nothing, he did that for lower weight.
@@ΑΝΤΡΙΑΝΕΒΝΤΟΚΙΜΕΝΚΟ xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
😂😂✌️✌️✌️
Black and yellow thing = diaphragm. Metal fing = carburettor needle.
Oh forgot to mention.. I went from 40mph to 75mph because my scooter is now in the back of my pick up truck... Just cut them all 😅🤣😂😅🤣😂
Funny
Too funny!!!
😂😂😂
Nice truck
May be a stupid question, but what is a prep licence? Or whatever you said at the beginning of the video? Because I have a moped, insured and on provisional, but it is illegal to ride it derestricted right?
great idea, bypass the rev limiter so when you hold it wide open you'll have your minute of fun before your engine decides to blow up, and if you have a modern honda or yamaha 50cc, there's a little washer in the tailpipe, take a flat screwdriver and a hammer and knock it out, you get better airflow, also messing with the float valve on the carb won't do anything besides make the scooter a wee bit more responsive, and if you want power, buy a 100cc engine and just put a 50,cc sticker on it. or bore out the block to put a 80 cc piston in.
god i am crying hahahahahaha
Did you ever find that spring that popped out from the carburetor? Also, what is the result in mph improvement? Can it help get the scooter to about 55, roughly 10 mph or more over the previous limit? (Assuming no wind.) And will this method work on a scooter that has Continuously Variable Transmission? (I assume so because this video doesn't change the transmission at all.) Thank you.
Never CUT IT REMOVE THE PIN SO YOU CAN PUT IT BACK AT ANYTIME
Moving the needle adjustment in that direction will make less gas come out of the jet resulting in lower speeds.the needle needed to be adjusted to come out further.
"Did I fail to mention this isn't my scooter?" ---BillysUK 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
that pin regulates the fuel flow in the carburettor... it doesnt "derestrict a 50cc scooter"... and after you do that, you need to modify the air intake so that the spark plug doesnt flood with petrol...
RPM limiters suck, all they do is keep the engine within operating tolerances so it won't break. Fuck that shit.
new old info to bike CPU. You go as fast as you want now! thanks God!
lol, be careful of taking technical advice from someone who calls things 'this bit' 'the black boring bit' 'that yellow thing' 'using this' and wouldn't it be the speedo that would send information about whether the bike is standing still? :-(
I could have been technical but whats the point. Nice troll tho hope you had a nice day.
billy b dont be mad that you dont know what the hell your talking about.your just trying to make people break their perfectly fine scooters.
but surly if your so stupid you really shouldn't give any advice, maybe its a simple case that understanding complicated terminology for the average simply states your average ability to common sense and you really don't have a clue. Did you woke up one morning and from a hunch manged to come up with the dimmest idear you could think of , which in a nutshell is the best you can manage to fuck your scooter up.. DO NOT DO THIS ITS THERE FOR A REASON.
+BillysUK your advice is as about as good as your spelling
+Stewart Bell YES IS THERE FOR A REASON. A REASON IS RESTRICTION FOR IT SO 16 YEAR OLDS CAN RIDE THE SHIT U DUMB FUK
Probably very simpler to the Genuine Buddy 50 (49cc). I'm just wondering during if I still cut the pink wore , haha.
I just stuck a 125cc in mines I get to work now in 3mins :-)
My needle doesnt have those adjustment grooves. Not sure if mine has that pink wire, either. I'll cut it if it does. I have no fear of blowing this thing up; I've already installed NOS on it. Right now, the carb isn't letting gas through, even though ive rebuilt it twice and installed all new fuel lines and cleaned out the gas tank. It'll run on starting fluid, but wont start on its own fuel, no matter how long it cranks over. So, for me, it has to run first before it blows. Good video anyways, thanks! Watched it twice now.
U lower the clip to richen it up n raise it to lean out
Jeff Joy inflate some one else caught that too.
dam spell check, I'm glad someone else caught that too
A combustion engine is basically an air compressor. The more air that can flow through it, the faster it will go. Porting the intake and exhaust as well as boring and stroking will give the maximum power output. Not butchering wires and jets lol
The yellow thing is a Diaphragm, and Metering rod.
Most carbs (automotive) work on a vacuum break.
U move the clip on the neddle the wrong way to get more gas u nedd to move the clip down that way the needle will raise down richer up leaner
correct comment. To get more fuel inside need to put needle more out of hole.
Triggered! Frak you I won't do what you tell me! The administrations will not force me to register all my private properties, or allow them to continue seizing my personal property without a warrant and without compensation, they will not force me to subscribe to a membership and be a customer of a dmv/bmv, I will not be forced to buy products from them and I will not be forced to buy services from them or any other corporation. I will not be forced at gunpoint to comply with their business practices without having my own right to to have a gun to defend myself FROM ANYBODY ON EARTH If they seek to take every last drop of my liberty freedom and Each and every human rights, then they can take my right to life first. I will not live a slave to random administrators posing as judges and be forced to pay my wealth to his company. I will not comply. We all have the rights, until they take them from us and deny we have them and trick us into signing a contract agreeing to pay a fee to excercise our rights. Licencing agencies take our first signature on our initial driver license to be a life-long membership subscription to their company. It's all about money, my money-our money, Corporations want our money and equity for themselves, while giving nothig in return just taking from us. Every judge, court clerk, bailiff, and prosecutor are there for one purpose: to take money from you anyway possible, through fees and fines, jail you if they can because they get more funding from the pot they share for every one man incarcerated into the prison profit industry(the single largest industry in the U.S.) They abolished public lashings, but if you don't buy their license they will punish you, and there are no more Patrick Henrys. I prefer death over the denial of my rights,my enslavement and forced poverty at the hands of these evil, laughing people that cause so much suffering to all of us so they can get richer.
this should be how to make your moped a lot slower lool
Does just cutting the cable change the speed as I don’t have the Carburettor on my mope
Motorini is the make of my scooter
