- Hope you enjoy my 4 favorite retro game shops in Akihabara as I do. I always find some cool games as I am searching around here and over the past few months built a pretty cool small collection of Japanese N64 games!

Do you know if these stores accept foreign credit cards? Or are they all cash
Great question! I have used foreign cards at all of these places! I never had an issue with Visa and I even used Mastercard a few times as well.
I notice these days in Japan most places take cards (visa) but some places (in general) won't take mastercard or something outside of the visa network yet.
Get an AMEX card. It works almost anywhere in Japan.
The Sega Saturn at 4:51 has a picture of my main character from the anime Uncle from another World in the anime he is obsessed with Sega and the Saturn is his go to console that he talks about and plays in the show even showing official licensed Sega Saturn games.
I just can't with Super Potato. It went from a place I dreamed about visiting 10 year ago, to a place I'll likely skip all together. Their prices have went astronomical, it's ridiculous in there.
Well I can’t compare ten years ago but i do still find some good deals in there. However it seems every store has some wild increases on certain handhelds haha
Surugaya is fantastic, and I'm glad you covered it as I had totally forgotten the name of it! Prices have probably all changed now, but when I last visited around 4-5 years ago I got a CIB Pokemon Red from there for about half the price of all the other stores in that area!
I found the store one day and was pretty impressed with the amount of stock as well as I had a very good experience with the staff there so I go back often to check it out. I am all about finding cool CIB especially for Pokemon haha (searching for green version atm) The price even in the past year have gone up a bit but I think everything feels still reasonable for the most part!
Nice video but the story behind the DC box is another. The guy on the box advertised the Dreamcast before launch and the months after the japanese launch.
His name is yukawa. There are a lot of commercials on RUclips with him. There are uploads with English subtitles.
He was director of sales. And died in 2021.

There is a new Surugaya retro game store a block from the exit of the train station at the start of this video. Another retro game store I like to visit is Friends when I am in Akihabara.

I really liked that Surugaya! I would have picked up some more games their if I hadn’t found what I was looking for early on in the video! I’ll have to check out “Friends” another time though as sadly it was closed that day 😅

Are the GB and GBA games all language locked? Also, can you buy handhelds that will play US based games?
They’re language locked! If you buy the Japanese versions they’ll be in Japanese. I am able to play Japanese and American games on my Japanese gameboys! The handheld consoles aren’t region locked until the DS.

If you do I think you'll love them! I always find so much cool games for pretty good prices in there! I almost have to stop my self from going every weekend haha 😅

are majority of games that you see are all japanese right? like english version games are super rare to find?
Good question!
A majority if not all are indeed in Japanese. However I have been surprised by some games which were voiced in English but text in Japanese. Viewtiful Joe on GameCube was that way.
How were the Gameboy console prices? Thinking of visiting in the summer!
Recently I went back and made some new videos and with your comment in mind I made sure to take a look at gameboys! Sadly, they're not as cheap as they once were a few years ago when I picked up my Japanese GBA with average prices around 18,000yen. Sometimes a little cheaper and sometimes a bit more. I am also looking for a GameBoy (in yellow) but for a better price so I might take a look outside of Tokyo for some deals on one.

@@thenicflynn ahh bummer! I do hear a lot of people ask why get a console since it isn’t really different than the US, but if I find a cool color I like, id think about it. But I guess I will just pick up some in box games if the prices are going up in Akihabara for consoles. Thanks for checking!!
Can you find USA consoles in any of those stores ?
I will say it is not impossible however probably very rare! If you want to play US titles I'd suggest checking into which consoles are region locked or not (newer ones aren't. But blue ray/DVDs still are I think for movies) and even mods if you're savvy with that kind of thing! All things I have gotten so far are the JPN versions

How much do Nintendo 64s usually cost for n yen
I usually see them for about 15,000-17,000 usually the standard black versions!
Hey sorry! I actually made a mistake on that and during a recent trip down there I saw them for about 9,000 yen! Some cheaper but none at 10,000 that were standard black ones.
