Most games are typically cheaper in Japan but sometimes you can find rare and expensive ones there as well. Not counting brand new games of course. What I mean by that are the recently released ones, I wanted to make sure there was no confusion. Nice to see physical media doing just fine in Japan. It’s why I’ve always wanted a Japanese game in my possession when I was a kid unlike what I have now. Been importing stuff from Japan ever since and I’m loving it.
I have been to Japan several times but it's the first time I am hearing of some of those awesome specialty stores. Thanks for that. Will check them out on my next trip.
Tito great video man! Glad i was able to show you some good retro game deals and i appreciate the shout out. Looking forward to what you picked up at beep. Im guessing you piced up a sharp x68000 or a nec pc9801? ⌨️ if you ever need something let me know 👉🎮👍
Thank you so much for taking the time to show me around! It was great hanging out and I hope I can make it out there again and visit soon! Wish you the best dude! Will do, thank you man 🙏👍
I've really enjoyed your Japan series - thank you for putting those videos together! Great advice on setting a budget and having an idea of what you want before shopping - I've done the same thing at vintage gaming shows... but still, I would've had to rent a barge to ship all the stuff I couldn't resist!
Loved the trip and can't wait to see the video game preservation documentary. I think you got something like an MSX or some other really rare Japanese computer. Can't wait to see what all you got!
New to the channel, one thing awesome is that tyou put the price and the conversion. Even if viewers aren't buying, at least we get an idea how much deal you are getting. Keep it up!
My OLED Vita is from Japan and I bought it shipped from Hiroshima a few years ago for less than $100. The Vita was extremely popular in Japan, so they are VERY common over there.
I adore popping into BEEP whenever I'm visiting Japan but have never been brave enough to buy something from there. Sure looks like you picked yourself a Sharp X68000 - if you did, well done and good luck! The shop right next to BEEP is Surugaya which is where I bought some really great items just a week ago, although the number of retro game shops in Akiba is dwindling, those that are still there are still offering great material.
Dude you went to most of the Hardoff I should-not-go-but-go-anyway twice a month :) Chiba ones are very nice especially the 1st one. I found there bargain junks which with some love are working perfectly fine. Well nowadays, bargain are rare but anyway, I enjoy bicycle and the hunt. Thanks for sharing !
I can't believe you were in Japan at the same time as, Metal Jesus, Wood and Bob, and Elliott. And pretty much did the exact things, BUT DIDNT MEET UP WITH THEM. missed crossover opportunity of a lifetime
Elliot was there before and metal Jesus, Bob and Wood i believe were there after me. We all just missed each other. Would have been amazing to meet up with all of them!
In a lot of the shops items are listed as "junk," but it's mostly common, untested stuff that they have a too many of. Most of the items work perfectly fine, unless noted.
Shout-out to the awesome @scruffylookingrgb Great guy and been a long time supporter. Glad he was able to show you around. Great pick ups and we all look forward to your return to Japan.
I love this channel. Here is a fun drinking game while watching Macho Nacho. Drink every time he says "definitely". This game will get you drunk in no time.
I've never had the chance to get to Japan yet but it's on my bucket list, definitely a great place to go for some retro gear & great food looking at your video. I also just love their culture and would have to stay at the Godzilla hotel as it is one of my all-time favourite movie series. Thanks for the videos of your trip and the effort you put into all your videos, keep up the great work. 🕹️👾🔫🎮.
I've always dreamed of doing such a trip! Maybe one Day! Thanks so much for uploading these, they had a lot of good tips where to look and what to watch out for. I'm not honestly sure what I would want to hunt for if I ever did such a trip 🤔The Language barrier in the games would make it pretty hard to justify picking up somethings.... Honestly I'd probably just go ham on trying to collect Game and Watches
You’ll definitely make it out there one day, I know it! I’m so glad you enjoy the videos and find them helpful 🙏 I mostly got consoles and games that I am very familiar with so that I am still able to play. Also games that don’t require reading like some fighting games. I should have gotten a game and watch, definitely next time 😅
In the late '80s early '90s there was a VHS video game system that came with guns similar to duck hunt Nintendo gun 🔫 I want to say there was even a backpack involved i cant remember. I had two VHS tapes The haunted house and the jet pilot. The movies you walk around first person view a haunted house ghost pop up and you have to kill them and it actually kind of reacted if you hit or miss kept track of the score live action person pops up from time to time talking you through the levels. It was hands down the coolest weirdest retro gaming tech ever
Omg you unironically called 'man-da-ra-ke' as 'man-drake'! My friends and I call it that as a joke name lol. Glad you also visited Galaxy in Nakano. My uni campus was two blocks away so I got to do some cheeky visits after uni a lot lol.
A bummer that you couldn’t visit Beep. During my trip to Japan, of all the video game stores I visited Beep was by far the best one. They had some of the rarest stuff you can’t find anywhere else.
Basically, yes. The country was closed to travel during the pandemic and only just recently opened up for normal non-guided visits, and they want to let people who might go spend their money, like retro game enthusiasts, know and be tempted to go themselves.
Awesome! I'm headed there next year, likely going to pick up a ton of stuff. What do you think is a better plan? Bring an empty suitcase(s), ship things home, or buy a suitcase there (avoid paying to ship empty suitcase). I can see myself buying multiple cib consoles so I'm probably going to at least need to ship something back
I wish I brought an empty suitcase. It would have been the cheapest way. I actually just had a carry on and backpack. Most airlines include a free check in. Shipping would have been too expensive.
I want to go to Japan so bad but by back is too messed up for such a long flight and all that walking. Hopefully it improves to where I can go someday. Lots of things there I want to see. Godzilla store, Anime stuff, historical attractions, and although I've seen then 4 times here I'd love to see a "home" Babymetal concert and get the true experience.
DUDE! This is so weird! Seeing you in a shop across the street from my house!!! That first shop isn't in Chiba - you were in Nishiarai, still Tokyo. Literally across the street from my house.
@@MachoNachoProductions checked off 2 systems I wanted.... A twin Famicom (and fdskey) and a 3do fz-1 (with the 480i/240p switch) struggling to find a simple v2 saturn (not boxed or stained) and a pc-fx (should have grabbed the one in Hiroshima)
The box art by the Japan publishers is superior to other regions as they have their own (usually renown) in-house illustrators/designers (e.g., Super Mario series, Street Fighter II)...
Yeah its a x68000 you can tell based on the bag has the square crease. And in add-on you see the wrapped keyboard above it....its a big computer so a bag that size probably only thing. Cant be PC98 or Towns as those would be too big for the bag and MSX to heavy....99% its a sharp x68000 wonder what type he got...super, ace or XVI.
If it was me I would be look at an X68000 but specifically the X68030 hdd model as it’s an excellent PC that is very expensive here. If you were lucky enough to get one out there replace all the caps before turning it on as everyone I’ve repaired has needed a full recap as they had all leaked and this fixed most of the issues. Original PSU’s can be very dangerous if not fully recapped prior to turning it on. Love the Japan videos always wanted to go there one day when I can afford it. Love their culture specifically for video gaming. Just watched the video again and I’m guessing it’s an X68000 Expert for 99,800 yen which is not a bad price at all especially if it can with the peripherals !!
Except the ones in that shop will be in near mint condition most likely. Japanese always seem to take very good care of their stuff as he mentioned in the video. Only time I've found something like a ps1 for "$10" is a scruffy piece of shit that American kids have let loose on.
Btws.. i have a massive selection of video disc top movies like the right stuff, commando , predator Blockbuster movies a good amount or actually even signed by the starring actor like commando signed by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Even the Star Trek movie save the Whales signed by Spock 🖖 . I would love to get a ced player but seeing how hard they are to find and repair isn't easy. Im selling them all as a set for $2,000 or B.O.
Wait...a...Hard-Off? No wonder they didn't have any of the consoles powered on. Then again, they have an opportunity to rebrand and do the funniest thing of all time
If i have a lot of money, i would go to Japan and buy all of these, my mouth is drooling with these amount of retro stuffs.

Man, this series is so great. We need more!
So glad you enjoyed it 🙏
Hard Off is definitely one of my favorite shops of all time. I can't wait to go visit them again.
Ooh, can't wait for that video about the Game Preservation Society!
For Europe, the prices are all like a gift! The whole thing costs a lot for us! You pay several hundred euros for a PC engine!
The like bar lit up when you said like the video. I didn't know that was a thing

I'm actually headed to Tokyo tomorrow for 10 days. This series has been absolutely amazing in getting me prepped, thank you!
That’s awesome! I’m jealous. Can’t wait to head back. I hope you find some great deals 👍
That pickup at Beep is most certainly a sharp x68000. Congrats :D
I can't wait for the mini-documentary

A lot of RUclipsrs went around the same time. Supposedly the yen went down, good time to get a good price.

Totally agree! I think it so funny it’s listed as junk though 😅
Always end a Retro Hunt with something good to eat.
Absolutely!
yes, just don't show pics or video of food
Dang. Haven't made it all the way through the video, but that 1K PSP would've came home with me. Lol.

I recognize the contents of that bag as a Sharp X68000 immediately. Excellent find!

I love how "thrilling adventures" is now just going to a children's theme park.
Have all retro game youtubers all been sponsored to go on a holiday to Japan recently? This is like the 6th Japan vlog i've seen in the last 2 weeks.

Nice Peak Design backpack! I have the dark gray one. Best backpack I've ever owned.

Great video!!
Dude the boxed Hagane at 12:58? Definitely worth picking up.
This would be a trip of a lifetime for me and already planning it and I bet he picked up a Sharp X68000

Dude that’s crazy! Your super lucky to be so close to some great shops
My guess for what you got at Bep is that you got one of those MX computers that Metal Gear was first released on
Will actually be in Tokyo tomorrow night (Osaka was mostly picked of what I wanted, exploring Kyoto today
Nice! Hope you find some good stuff!

The footage was filmed with a combination my Sony fx30 with 18-105 and my iPhone.
Japan is awesome, those deals are amazing

awesome! A Sony Jackal 300! Do you know what mod that is that Kaden-ken used there?
Cool! 🤩
My guess on biggest grab... NEC PAC N-1 for the laseractive.

Awesome trip. Congrats!

I bet Tito went home with a X68000
