      @@LuisCarruthersYou made that all up though. Nobody is being taught any self-hatred or that preserving our culture is wrong. What people ARE saying is that generalising all immigration and uncivilised criminals who won't ever assimilate is wrong. I believe we should have a better immigration system and they should assimilate too, but I also know that most immigrants are good people and I'm not racist unlike a lot of people who claim there's some anti-white agenda.

    • @nathanattewell5034
      @nathanattewell5034 6 месяцев назад

      Actually we really are not a million miles away from North Korea. Whilst they're indeed at the threat of pain and death, people do lose their jobs over here and face police involvement and social suicide for being 'politically incorrect'. The self hatred is literally taught to us in 'Critical Race Theory', and 'Subconscious Bias' or 'Equal Opportunities' training, and the general crap we get from the BBC. The underlying idea is not only that we should treat a non-native with equality, but we should should give them preferential and better treatment, to try and tip the overall balance in their favour.
      It's a good sentiment, but believing 'we should have a better immigration system and they should assimilate' is not going to change anything. They'll still keep coming in huge numbers regardless, and they'll continue to turn the UK into another version of the country they came from, it's subconsciously buried in them and they may mean well, many of them but it's still ruining the country. Perhaps if you experienced living in Luton you'd understand why people stand against this. They really do have different minds with a lower standard of decency, not necessarily their fault but more to blame on foreign governments and social progress, however it's unfortunately just the way things are. Many of them are fine but the migrants do commit a disproportionate amount of crime.
      My opinion is similar another comment here:
      'We need more diversity', said no one in Nigeria.
      I've been to an African country (Uganda), and I like and respect they celebrate and maintain their ways and take care of their people first. It's good to see their tribal and racial brotherhood, the concept of a wider family that reaches across the whole native population. I'm proud of them on their behalf that they assertively stand for their own and uphold their ways and their culture. They maintain their hold of power and wealth to give it on to the next generation. I'm also saddened to see when Chinese and Indian business exploit them in their own country, milking their hard labour and the work in their economy, taking it away from them and having it for themselves, even perhaps sending the wealth back to their home country. I would want for them to overthrow that foreign power and reclaim their future for themselves, to take care of their future generations and keep the power in the hands of those who love their country and who inherently belong there and have a native right to be a sovereign person with full freedom, not like a 2nd class citizen in their own homeland.
      It's okay even perfectly right for a foreigner to have a racial/native preference for their own, but if I as an Englishman said I have a preference for whites and that white people should be fully in power in this country, it would sound racist to you. Just ponder on that double standard please before you resume.

    This town is like most of England was in the 90's when people had good honest liberal, inclusive values and imagined that immigration had no downside. Perhaps the inhabitants of Workington should visit some places like Rotherham, Rochdale, Telford, Bradford, Luton or any borough in central London or Birmingham or West Croydon or St Pauls in Bristol and then ask themselves if they want their town to be more like that?
    As usual Ed tries his hardest to imply that mass immigration has no detrimental effects and that those who resent it are 'far right', 'racist' or simply a bit stupid. But it's interesting how few people in the comments agree with that perspective.
    It's not just that the economic arguments don't work Ed, with GDP per capita going backwards, it's not even the fact that imported unskilled labour undermines UK workers' wages, the job supply, the housing supply, rents, hospital beds, places in schools etc etc, it's not even the fact that the system ruthlessly exploits the foreign worker's rights, often paying them less than minimum wage, overcrowding them in ghettos and marginalising them. It is the inevitable undermining of the British societal values, our history of struggle for equality and labour rights, respect for the law, respect for private property and our national institutions, housing conditions, education and social care. Mass immigration undermines all of that.
    And before you Politics Joe supporters reply, I'm not blaming immigrants for the woeful state of our nation, the blame lies squarely with the Boris Johnson Tory government and his predecessors who promised high skilled, high waged, immigration controls and deliberately did the opposite by liberalising immigration restrictions and bringing in record numbers of low skilled workers, students and their dependents over the last three years.
    But let's not deny the detrimental effects of this cynical, deliberate and undemocratic policy: a rise in violent crime, sexual exploitation, benefit fraud, illegal workers, religious division, political division, social fragmentation and a low trust society. If you hate Tommy Robinson and people like him, ask yourself why he is so popular now? Is it because English people are more racist than they were in the 90s? Well these people in Workington aren't, just like most people aren't. So what has gone wrong and more importantly how can it be put right? Lets at least be frank about the changes that have happened in England over the last twenty years?

    I live and work in Workington. I'm in healthcare and I'm an ethnic minority. I was born in a big city but lived most my childhood in Cumbria. I have to say that West Cumbrians as a whole are very tolerant and welcoming. I feel that with the nuclear power plant coupled with it being near the heart of the Lake District, the local population are used to and understand the benefits of outside influences/visitors. This could all purely be my own experience but any slight hostility I've experienced while being in Western Cumbria has mostly been from people that have moved there from elsewhere. I remember a patient "accidentally" admitting he'd relocated to Cumbria from London because "there aren't as many immigrants". He went rather red faced and looked somewhat embarrassed after that. I've had a few older people ask me what it's like being "coloured" in Workington but language like that is used due to a lack of experience with minorities rather than any malice. As I say, overall people are quite friendly.

      Thanks for your comment.
      The problem is not the colour of one’s skin or race. It’s about having a common ground, culture, heritage. Respect for the country and celebrating their heritage and history. Many immigrants have come to England in large numbers and from many different countries. Some have integrated and that’s great though many have no interest in our culture or heritage. They have come here with their own culture and they will stay there and not mix it or respect our heritage etc
      The separation is so noticeable and felt, that the local white British people have left. So many of these towns and cities are full of mainly immigrants and little population of white British people.
      For example, Southall is less than 4% white British. Much of London is completely alien to English people. In fact even Ukrainian people who moved there felt completely out of place. They said it’s not England nor English at all
      Basically, our government opened the UK borders to anyone and everyone ( Tony Blair)
      They have not been picky on who they let in like they used to decades ago. The result is that integration had been little to none and the new arrivals have little to no idea what our culture is. So naturally they will stay with what they know. Also the immigration numbers are so high that many of our towns and cities have been culturally changed. No English culture there, it’s gone.
      London, Luton, Birmingham, Leicester, Bradford and many other places. They are so diverse that English people don’t feel a connection to their own culture. Our government will protect the immigrants and not the British in the same way. There is a two tier police force. We are feeling that England is not our country anymore and it’s the only place we have - it’s our home and many immigrants want it like their home similar to their ancestral homeland - it’s crazy

    • @matsui90
      @matsui90 7 месяцев назад +16

      @@EpicAelflaedimagine yourself moving to another country and think how long it would take to integrate with the culture I.e. learn the language and understand history, customs, behaviours etc. it’s a forever process and it takes a lot of work. I have first hand experience as a Brit who has moved to Germany. I’ve picked up some basic German but it is HARD and I know I will never be a ‘real’ German. I’m lucky I can work a UK job remotely because it would take me years to know business level German to find a local job. And it will likely never happen. It’s far easier and more comfortable for me to find English speaking people in Germany and befriend them. If I have kids here they will naturally become native but I will always be a foreigner. And consider this is a white European talking about moving to another white European country. The difficulty non-European / older people speaking completely different languages would have to integrate with British society must feel near impossible and a lot of them will move with families to look after and without the time to integrate. Besides, the UK has always had groups of people move here and bring their own culture which becomes part of ours. Example, If you went back 200 years to London you could walk around an area near Soho known as “little Paris” where French was the most common language. Or go back 1000 years where French was again spoken by the high society after the Norman invasion. Culture changes over time. It’s a non-issue.

    • @EpicAelflaed
      @EpicAelflaed 7 месяцев назад +6

      @@matsui90 I understand your point and I’m not disagreeing with you. Though that’s just one perspective and mainly your own with moving to Germany
      I have no issue with immigration it’s just the sheer numbers in such a short space of time. You know yourself the challenges when there is given time and support from the government for integration into another country.
      Our government under Tony Blair was ‘mass immigration’ that has not been controlled or assimilated. This is experiences from Muslim and African people. They would agree with you wholeheartedly though thee was a British culture when they arrived. Now and the last 30 years, England and its government have changed this policy completely. They are fully committed to diversity and inclusion (for them) and we as British have felt this. Many of our towns and cities are simply not English anymore and little to no English culture. The best way for you to understand is to go there yourself and ask the locals. They will tell you that there are enclaves of different cultures and they do not mix well if at all. Look at social media as there is more evidence what is going on.
      It’s a completely different time when you emigrated to what it’s like today. England and the UK has open borders and many don’t have passports or documentation when they come here ( on boats, lorries) or anyway they can. Some are genuine and some are not. Still they are breaking the law coming here illegally and the numbers coming are huge. They are looked after with free accommodation etc and yet they leave our homeless on the streets.
      We haven’t the proper infrastructure or resources for the people already in Britain. The problem is much worse than you can imagine. Like I say. I see your point but it’s not the same as 200 years ago with a few immigrants here and there. It’s a huge unsustainable situation and it’s becoming increasingly unsafe too

Meanwhile we are building 150,000 new houses every year, which isn't enough to keep up with the current demand let alone an extra 700,000 people each year, and people wonder why house prices are going through the roof. 🤦‍♂️

    • @u.2b215
      @u.2b215 7 месяцев назад +10

      There are 700,000 empty homes just in England alone with 250,000 being vacant for more than 6 months already. Also with smaller household sizes we see larger existing houses being split in more than 1 dwellings so the actual amount of houses being added to the supply is close to 250,000. Let's also not pretend as if immigration is the only reason for increased house prices, there's also the problem that more are single and stay that way for longer. So people in the UK actually have more houses per person than they had in the past.

    • @Roberta80
      @Roberta80 7 месяцев назад +11

      House prices are going through the roof because there's a vast amount of money sloshing around in rich people's bank accounts looking for a home (literally). • @BambiTrout
      @BambiTrout 7 месяцев назад

      But we're not being "ethnically cleansed". White British people aren't being killed. We're not being driven out. We're not even reducing in actual numbers. We simply represent a marginally smaller percentage of the total pie than we used to. If that's "ethnic cleansing", then people dying of old age is "genocide", and being gently stroked on the cheek by your wife is "domestic abuse".
      "Ethnic cleansing" is when you are being driven from your homes and turned into refugees. "Ethnic cleansing" is when the bombs start falling. "Ethnic cleansing" is when you and every one of your people is under direct threat of becoming either dead, dying, in exile, or well on their way to one of them. The Holocaust was an ethnic cleansing. The Rwandan Genocide was an ethnic cleansing. What is happening in Gaza is an ethnic cleansing.
      Meanwhile, we simply occasionally have to listen to someone speaking in Hindi on the bus and see a woman wearing a hijab on the street.... wow. The end times are surely here. I must lay down in the street and prepare myself to be cleansed... (if it isn't obvious, this last paragraph is dripping in sarcasm).

    1,417,000 net migration over the last 2 years is clearly not sustainable on any level whatsoever. It wouldn't even be sustainable if Britain was 5x the size that it actually is.
    283,000 new homes have been built over the last 2 years, so in effect there have been 5x more immigrants than new houses built over the past 2 years. How long is that sustainable for? It isn't.
    How do we assimilate this level of migration? How do we deal with this amount of people when it comes to teaching them the language, and the essential skills needed in order for them to get a job, and not rely on the tax-payer to sustain them.
    In the UK, those identifying as 'Muslim' had the highest rate of living in social housing, at 26.6% - this is according to ONS government statistics. Had we integrated these people better into society, and at a slower rate, then would less of them be reliant on the UK tax payer? The answer is most likely a resounding yes.
    In 2021, according again to ONS statistics, people who identified as "Muslim" had the lowest percentage of people aged 16 to 64 years in employment, at a meagre 51.4% - far below the national average of 70%. This is most likely down to a lack of skills, education, and a language barrier. Once again, had we accepted immigration at a sustainable level where we could have integrated people better into British society, then these figures would likely be less alarming.
    I could go on and on, but clearly, to not only the UK but almost all European countries, we are reaching a point whereby some drastic changes will have to be made to ensure that immigration is kept at a level that is sustainable. Will we see the end of free movement across Europe, for example? Once thought totally out of the question but now a very real possibility. Will be see deportations at a scale unimaginable in years past? This is a very real prospect.
    Who knows what the next 5-10 years has in store for Europe. It is certainly going to be something to behold.

Why not view it that way rather than in terms of a melting pot or worse imagine skin colour makes some people saints, it doesn't. Culture stripping in Britain as much as anywhere is an agenda. Division by skin colour or genitalia and sexuality enables the handful to grab more without opposition as communities are broken down. Norman Fowler did not say on your bike for nothing. We need some migration but no where near what we've had.
    Ask yourself what the government has done right in recent years/decades but you think mass migration they've got right?
    By every metric we are worse off from mass migration.
    We can help the rest of the world without telling them all to come here.
    WAKE UP, YOU ARE BEING DEVALUED WITH CHEAP LABOUR AND FORCED INTO DESPERATION BY LACK OF HOUSING.

      Are these "investigations" published in the Mail by any chance? The lack of housing, low wages and poor workers rights has precisely fuck all to do with immigrants, but everything to do with those in government.

Go into any university and look into Medicine, Dentistry, and Optometry and in sure the student population would be disproportionally of immigrant backgrounds

    While me being a brown guy I did not like some of the white people there but even in those footages the differences between the surrounding, the clean roads, the calmness, cleanness compared to some of the more mixed places in Britain did not miss my eyes.
    So off course I could sense an urge for more diversity in that place , particularly from people like the young white lady there what immigration has turned out in many of the other places in britain and europe is I am sure not what the people , even those young white girls wouod have liked to have in their places.
    I strongly feel immigration if in demand shiuld be heavily filtered to prevent the kind of people they do not want in their places entering.
    So my suggestion is:
    Include a phase in the immigration phase where a short video inteview of the would be immigrating individual , a video on their usual ways of life, their idea ajd opinion of the place they wish to move to, their future plans on how they plan to integrate with the people there is presented in the city municipality (or whatever it is called in UK) for the original people of the place to decide whether they are comfortable with their new neighbour.
    Before taking the recording also let the necomer know the purpose behind it.
    I think through that process lot of potential surprises on both sides will be removed.
    ****
    The reason i think that will work at least for sometimes in future till the immigrants again starts finding loopholes is it will filter out many individuals whom the residents would be surely uncomfortable with and drastically reduce sources of misgivings and conflicts.
    ****
    In short immigration mechsnism needs to be much more controlled and modernised.
    I am particularly against immigration for economic purposes, never mix social situations with material things, it will not work, it will fail, religious ideas are still ok to be used as criterias because religion shapes lot of potential and past social and individual characteristics even if fleeting, however prioritising economic considerations is like choosing a prostitute over a bride,will never work in social integration matters except in very rare cases.
    ****
    Earlier in history only handful people from our place in Bengal wouod be taking up the courage to visit uk ajd think of settling there, and most of them were from western educated or of ancient indo-european ancestry, however i think in the past 40-50 years people of different types had started migrating to europe, america and uk and chiefly to make short money and get into infuence or from hearing stories about neighbours and having some historical idea of colonial british india.
    I do not think economic migration works anywhere in the world except in cosmopolitan city states like singapore ehich alrready had a mixed population.

      Thats because ethnically homogenous societies work better . The UK should have been like Japan by now. Instead we imported a load of people that nobody asked for, and for no reason than to cause these issues.

    . People voted for Brexit to stop immigration. But it has now increased; the Europeans have been replaced by people from other parts of the world because we do need more workers. So we lost our own freedom of movement in the rest of the continent for nothing.

      If you voted brexit for any other reason than to leave the EU then you're an idiot. Leaving the EU was the only thing promised, and that's what happened. If things didn't change as you thought they would then tough, that's on you. The referendum promised leaving only, and didn't specify the manner in which we'd leave.

    FYI:
    Líberia, you can't become a citizen unless you are black.
    Nígeria, where you can't be in advertising unless you are an ethic Nigerian (błack).
    South Africa, where some there chant, "kill the boer" (boer meaning white farmers).
    Why aren’t ppl being asked, should they be much more diverse?

    • @tortoisewarrior4855

      Find a white person that wants to live in Nigeria and Liberia. Thats why its just not talked about. Your point on South Africa is meaningless because its not the policy of the government. I can find anyone from anywhere saying something and use it as an argument. South Africa is also very diverse, more so than the UK.

      @@tortoisewarrior4855 You saying they aren’t desirable places to live, isn’t a positive for them, especially because it’s due to the ppl that live there. It still doesn’t change the fact if the premise is good for one, it should be good for all.

      @@tortoisewarrior4855 Also….
      The 2022 estimates were 81.4% Black or Indigenous South African, 8.2% mixed race (usually black and white, in much of the rest of the world would be called “błack”. So South Africa is really about 90% błack) South African, 7.3% White South African, and 2.7% Indian South African. Dominant population groups in South Africa.
      81.7% of the population in England was white (as of 2021), and 18% belong to a black, Asian, mixed or other ethnic group (those stats were from 2021 and don’t include the excessively large numbers that have come in since).

    Fair play to the lass admitting to having small town syndrome when going to Glasgow, but it just shows that we shouldn't have places that are too small in the first place to live or can't easily connect to bigger places for work/study/leisure by an easy train journey etc and just expect them to work for all ages of people.
    I can understand someone older wanted somewhere a bit quieter and smaller and quicker to get around for day to day things but you can't expect younger folk to be able to live there all their lives into old age and actually do something significant really.
    People from different places coming into the town will increase it and with that comes investment and more things to do so it is not a bad thing. Not everywher in rural or remote setting is some idylicc tourist picture postcard type place where it is all lovely buildings, indy shops and smiley people all around.
