So this was a reading requirement for me in maybe the 7th grade (over 10 years ago). And the ending is like a broken record from decades ago to now. This is a great book and you did a great job reviewing it!
That's so cool you've read this as well! Have you read any of Ms. Woodson's other work? I'm half way done with "Feathers". I plan on reading "Brown girl dreaming" as well! The ending is depressing in how it's 20 years ago and still relevant, it's so horrible how rotten the system is (I still hope that things can be changed, especially if young people are exposed to these kinds of stories). I agree! And thank you so much for the kind words
It's a very sad, but moving book, Woodson is a fantastic author. The ending was very real, it was very upsetting but it was important to show. Thank you so much for the kind words!
The book sounds amazing this video came at a great time cause I was in search of a new read. I just finished the fire next time by james baldwin yesterday and this sounds really good
"The fire next time" is on my radar! I really want to read something of Mr. Baldwin's, since he seemed like a cool guy, so I'm aiming at reading "The fire next..." this summer :-) And I'm super happy your interesting in "If you come softly"! Hope you enjoy it :-)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the book, you even gave people a warning about spoilers, so fair play to you. Small critic to help you grow. Think you need to sort out a channel intro for your channel. Start thinking of improving your thumbnails, PicsArt is a good phone app to help you start. Finally add next videos at end, they can advertise previous videos.
Thank you so much for the Feedback! I am planning on an intro video, and I'll absolutely work on my thumbnails. I hope the spoiler warning was long enough, I don't want to spoil stuff for anyone :-D
Wow! That is amazing! Coming from a very racially homogeneous country, I have seen how groupism works. Outside India, hey if you are an indian, you are my brother. Within India, if you speak the same language as me, you are my friend. Within the same language people, if you are the same cast as me, you are ok. Even within the same cast, if you are of the same sub-cast you can marry into the family. It is sad. But what you said so rings true 'even people from one marginalized group don't necessarily accept other marginalized groups'. Thank you for sharing. 👍
Thank you so much for your insightful comment! It's always interesting how certain issues are universal yet different. And Yes, it's interesting how groupism works differently depending o where you even physically are. Thank you again!
You definitely made me quite interested in this. Woodson sounds amazing with all those achievements and I like how it discusses racism and race relations. I especially liked the quote you read about the war being all around us.
That quote was very powerful! I really liked how Woodson, despite writing for children and teens, is still very honest and real in her work, so she definitely has earned all those achievements. You won't be disappointed if you end up reading the book! :-)
You explain so good I like it😊 7:23
