I love roads and pathways in Minecraft! They're the glue that binds any village, town, or city, and even the space between settlements. They are so important, but often overlooked.
I'm realizing this playing on a vanilla server; a few players are going no/minimal elytra and are using horses, and they've made a path from spawn all the way to and through their bases, which are about 1.5k out from spawn, and they have various builds along the path, plus the path continues through a bridge into a city that another player started that I've also been a part of. I've walked the path a couple times and took note of how nice it was having everything connected that way, and it made me want to start making a path (bridges over rivers included) with various small builds along it all the way out to my home which is about 8k blocks from spawn. Sadly, the server has been very slow lately and I haven't had much motivation to play on it, especially after joining another similar server that just reset for 1.19 and has a lot more players on it.
The slight pinkish tones of the rooted dirt is perfect for the pale sandy path - great blending choice. Love the structure walkthrough too, so very helpful. Thanks again Blue.

This just blatantly isn’t true. There’s plenty of people who have been around a long time that have good not over detailed builds. If anything the over detailing is more of a random people on Reddit or viewer problem, since they see all these details and think just a bunch of stairs and colors and slabs will help.
I'm really interested in learning how to transition materials well between spaces - ie when going from doing something more formal around a castle with some straight lines, formal gardens, then veering off towards less formal houses, how would you change up the materials and sizes of paths. You really have such an artists eye for these things

A path that I thought works well with an area such as a castle or fortress of sorts made of light blocks like quartz blocks and bricks and calcite is a mix of Lapis Blocks, Blue Concrete (both solid and powder) and Blue Wool. Hey BlueNerd. I just want to say thank you for your videos and inspiration. I just discoverd your channel a few days ago. I start playing Minecraft 3 1/2 month ago again after i don´t touch it for almost 8 years. i just find a nice place in my 1.18 world where i will build a city inspired by your builds.
Blue, this video is really helpful. I love that you took the time to show how important it is to figure out color palettes for the paths just like with buildings. I suppose you plan streams in the same way that you do paths.
Thank you Rob, yeah streams are done very much the same way but you can find a more in depth guide to streams/rivers in this video - ruclips.net/video/e9U95cuV7_g/видео.html
I already built many pathways before so most of this wasn’t new to me but there is one piece of information I learned that I am so thankful for: You can mix brown concrete powder in with dirt blocks etc and it looks really good
Blue: These are some fairly simple houses, nothing much to them (around 17:00) Me: 🥺 I was so proud of how hard I worked on my little cottages *sniffles* Also Me: But Blue is amazing, so it’s all good!
Paths are always the first thing I do when revamping a village, it’s something so simple yet so fun to do and sets down a good foundation when you still don’t know what direction or type of architecture you want to build
Planning the pathway first (or part of it) makes it easier to fit builds and the path into the landscape. Building house's then linking them up makes paths look out of place and just more like you are connect the dots. Laying out some form of pathway first gives you a better structure to work from, in way that would make sense or at least feel more natural. Just like in real life paths would be planned and built before houses. =)
You are realy the most underrated RUclipsr ever, everything you build is just amazing and I looove it! I hope that your channel grows a lot because you definitely deserve it!
My friend and I have been struggling to start a town for months. It's actually been months of procrastination because we just don't know where to start or how to work with it. This is such a good tutorial thank youm
Dripstone blocks work great with woods and dirts, especially as a transition. They can also work as a transition to a stone path as they're a nice brown texture but still have the hard, stony feel.
You should do a snowy town build in one of the new snowy mountain biomes! It's a project I'm about to start and I'd love to see some good tips and ideas you come up with!
The best roads and pathways to use are half slabs on top of blocks to keep from having snow buildup and then skipping a slab here and there so you can have a little bit of snow on the road
Your thumb nail makes zero sense. You have a fully detailed little path with a "stop this" over it. And then you proceed to explain that exact path and why it looks good???
I love the building tips videos! I especially loved the house building tips! Your my favorite builder because what you said before is true about people (most other Minecraft youtubers) over detailing their builds, then it just looks chaotic and to much. You don’t do that and your builds look beautiful and clean. Really appreciate the videos, it’s helped me a lot!
I didn't even make it three minutes in but I heard exactly what i needed to hear to be struck with the inspiration I needed to know what I wanted to do with my path. Thank you so much for having the key. This may sound odd, but to create the look I wanted I used jungle planks, brown concrete powder, and coarse dirt. Here's hoping the inspiration I received from you offers aid to you and others in the future. Edit: replaced the jungle planks with spruce planks and I like this look much better. Stuck on Xbox so I don't have all current available blocks so this'll have to do for now.
Using these tips currently as my villager base is on hilly terrain. I always forget to add the little boulders on the edge every now and again. This time i wrote down to remember to add a little pond along the pathway and luckily finding tropical fish is easy now with the lush caves and all.
