  • This was rendered in my free time over the course of several months and assembled using different models, materials, lighting, and compositing techniques.
There are several weak shots that have to be redone, but I thought you all would appreciate the quick look at where I currently am in the process.
As always, any pro compositing advice would be greatly appreciated =)

The problem with JJ abrams is that what he failed to realise, the enterprise is just as important to the show as any other character. Every other trek production knew this and always gave us the perfect introduction of the ship, Abrams just saw it as tool or a vehicle and brushed aside its introduction and the idea of it being being like hot rod was laughable.

JJ said that his first question after getting the project was, "How can we make this more like 'Star Wars'?", showing that he just didn't "get it".

The Abrams universe written and delivered more like a comic strip. I'm not saying if that's good or bad, but I personally think the scope and scale is lost, when you have a bunch of colossal starships darting around on screen like a house-flies. In 1979, it was plausible to see the launch of a new starship as an exciting part of an adventure, so it was fine to spend over 5 min on that sequence alone. Nowadays? I guess Hollywood doesn't think we have the attention.

    • @deusexaethera
      @deusexaethera 10 месяцев назад +10

True. However, it's important to remember that this movie was the first time anyone saw a Star Trek ship redesigned, and they wanted to give people who grew up with the original Enterprise the chance to admire and acclimate to the new design. Nowadays Star Trek ships get redesigned every 5 minutes and nobody really cares anymore.

The Kelvin Timeline Enterprise-A was launched in 2265, which was the same in-universe year TOS *started* in. So it makes sense that the Enty-A would still have the same design language from that era.

Your redesign of the Enterprise doesn't feel like a fan design, it just... *is* what the Refit looks like according to the "historical documents". The renders are just phenomenal, the fine details are just right in a way I couldn't put into words. If I may add some feedback/requests after watching this a few times...
The thick girder blocking the view of the saucer from the side and from above, I might recommend repositioning the camera to get those out of frame or to the edge, in addition to removing the shuttle flying right in front of the camera on the side view of the secondary hull (1:12 1:21) . Would look more majestic if the shuttles kept pace with the Enterprise instead of apparently outrunning her at (1:26). Also Jupiter looks very flat, very 2D (3:19) dunno what can be done to change that.
Also I want to end off on a positive (1:55). The relatively thinness of the dorsal and pylon on the original TMP model always looked off to me, this is much closer to looking realistic, that's a strong thicc dorsal and pylons!

    The ship is GORgeous!!!
I have to say that the vid was very well put-together and while it might be a 'rough cut' it puts some people's Finished works to shame.
I very much enjoyed this, liked and shared!!!

This is Awesome, I am really enjoying it so far, I like your Redesign and refit of the JJ version of the Enterprise. I actually really like the JJ version, not as much as the original refit Connie, but you do an awesome Job blending both together. Your Flyby shots are Beautiful!. The Only Criticism I have right now is the Sensor Ping. Not that you use it, I just think its over used and a bit overpowering in scenes. My idea that I have would be instead of using the sensor ping on the external shots of the Enterprise. Use it for the bridge shots after the Enterprise is activated, just at a much lower volume, have it as a background noise of the bridge. Thats just my idea, other then that, this is a great recreation and looking forward to the final Cut!

This is a really nice design. A little bit of Abramms but a lot of the original. Really well considered. Beautiful clip. I hope you put your take of the Warp jump in at the end that would bookend it nicely.

I really love what you have done here. Wouldn't mind seeing he TMP Enterprise given the same treatment. I think this is a testement to the work of Doug Trumbull's original, timeless special effects that people on youtube keep remaking and complimenting his work. My only criticism is the beeping from the 2009 movie. It just feels, unnecessary or distracting. That's just a personal preferance. I love the simple movement of the camera moving from right to left as the Enterprise glides past and finaly leaves dry dock. That really sells the shot I think. Plus, as the lights come on, on top of the saucer is excellent. Im' a big believer in lighting to sell a shot like this. Thankyou for sharing and putting a big smile on my face. Look forward to seeing more from you.

This is such an organic redesign and so right compared to what we got in TMP. Why couldn't the producers have given us this?

Amazing! Though I love “The Motion Picture” refit Enterprise more than the “Kelvin Timeline” one and the one in both “Discovery” and “Strange New Worlds.” I love the original series Enterprise as well. Keep up the good work and may you and yours live long and prosper. 🖖

This is how the enterprise should have look like in ST: Beyond. They called elongated nacelles and a thinner neck a "refit" constitution class. Yours actually looks like an amazing evolution of the kelvin constitution design. Kudos to you!

The JJ-Prise is not my favorite design by a long shot, but I must compliment you on some of the original angles you chose, instead of a straight shot for shot video. Well done.

This is nothing short of amazing! This is how the JJ Enterprise should've looked. It also fits very well with the footage of the movie.
