I love how Sissy was all "How dare they run away from the harsh reality of our society???" and not, you know, going on about how they were murdering and imprisoning people who stumbled across them to maintain that 'paradise'. Or how the stuff they wanted to be free to do seemed largely damaging, to themselves if not others. No, it was the escapism that was the issue, here. Fair 'nough...

    • @britishassistant

The whole “escapism vs societal obligations” is kinda poorly carried out tbh...
Mostly because the whole murder issue kinda overshadows any good points the “escapism” bit could have (and the creators at least want you to consider that side as valid, given that Sissy’s mindset at the end is shown to be insane and motivated by spite).

I doubt if they are harming anyone
only one questionable character would be Candy who sort of eats human flesh by thinking that it is candy, but she doe not look like someone who would kill those people by herself.
If we look at the first sun Sisy pretends to be fruit to fit in so it is more about just pretending that everything is fine and not attacking each other delusions.
I think sissy is disappointed that rather than fighting for their goals those people just roleplay pretending to live in their fantasy.
In the second run, Sissy attacks their world rather than playing along.

    • @britishassistant
      @britishassistant 4 года назад +128

@@deltaxcd I think they *are* harming people-after all, Sissy gets locked in Bread and Butter’s basement first thing when she says she’s human, with the implication that they’ve done this to mindbreak travelers who won’t play along before.
Dumpling literally beats her to death with his sign should she try and fail to escape.
And even if Candy *isn’t* the one who murders her neighbors (which is unlikely given the emphasis even in the good version of her love of candy being obsessive and destructive), she’s still *eating their corpses* after having someone or something do them in for her. Remember folks-just because someone looks sweet and harmless doesn’t mean they *are*.
Cinnamon stabs her immediately if she finds Sissy in her shop.
And need I even mention Chili? An active mass murderer who the townspeople shun but keep around to dispose of any bothersome problems?
I feel like your interpretation was what the game’s developers were going for, but that that message fails to really come across due to the fact that the food people are not just turning their backs on reality but actively harming anyone who could threaten their malaise.

She's already dead. She was probably killed by that person's wife. She is likely in the 3rd circle of hell. Gluttony is more than just food its overindulgence. @@blackxrosary It's a strong consideration that Sissy is there due to Gluttonous reasons and being killed by the woman (who seemed pretty set on ending Sissy). Now that I think about it, if Dumpling is here due to killing someone in a rage after being teased too much, which would have gotten his ass a ticket to the anger level, not Gluttony. So I think it's more a mixing pot of hell, rather then distinct circles. Though the general ideas still exist, same for the loop.
In fact, since the people at the camp outside of town Talk about having escaped and being generally accepting, they may have come to peace with their sins, and while not "Free" they don't have to play along. Though Blue Rainbow Hair guy may be some kind of a watcher.

True, but Sissy never comes across as that during the game. Her flaw in the flashback was probably biting off more than she can chew in regards to work and people pleasing, and the death probably wasn’t her fault given that we know the waiter wasn’t noting down allergic conditions when taking orders. Her biggest fault is being a people pleaser, because going along with things nets you ending one and ending two is her choosing to not along with it and ‘see thing as they are’. I don’t know, it doesn’t seem like selfishness is the main problem.

  • @rokinjaguar
    @rokinjaguar 5 лет назад +276

I think this game was about letting go of your bitterness and anguish. The reason for the first loop is that Sissy ran away from her problems and her past, and stayed with the other foods, living a complacent life. But that isn't truly dealing with her pain. In the second, she "faced" her problems and her painful past, but she didn't let go of any of her bitterness. She held onto it as a reason for moving forward.
Maybe she died and her soul is trying to find rest, but neither of these endings are true closure, so she keeps wandering.

  • @_Venvel

I think Sissy's literally in Hell, in Gluttony. I don't know how else you you'd explain those giant worms. The residents are likely there for gluttony-related crimes committed during life. Chili might be the stand-in for Cerberus. The campers might be newer damned souls who haven't fully given into Hell's torture yet. Milk may be Beelzebub himself, overseeing and enabling it all - he's not one of the damned human souls, he just observes their torture.

I don't think the food is drugged, Manly. The way the story presents itself, the inhabitants of Food Town all seem to have their own separate lifestyles, only sharing the sentiment of being food themselves to distance themselves from the humans that ruined their lives.
Butter and Bread live a rather normal life, and considering Sissy cooks with Butter on the first loop, I'm inclined to think the food was normal. What I get the feeling, is that they were BUTTERING Sissy up to the state of the town, luring her into the same blissful ignorance the entire town shares.
And since Sissy was at a mental breaking point herself, being suddenly confronted with the open kindness of the townspeople made it pretty easy to accept her "fate", which ultimately leads to her becoming a feast for Chili, finally granting her the happiness of serving someone good food and being appreciated at the same time, twisted as it may be.
The second loop then serves as a grim reminder that life simply isn't all sunshine and happiness - at least not without sacrifice. Sissy trying to improve her life instead of rejecting it, and her subsequent drive to escape Food Town at all costs, feels like a cynical take on an alternative to reality escape: embracing a dangerous and apathetic level of pragmatism (reflected by Sissy stating that nothing would ever get in her way again).
Of course, that's just my take, and I have some questions regarding certain backstories (especially for Bread, Cinnamon, and Chili, since I have a hunch, and it kinda unsettles me). And none of what I interpret into the narrative explains the bigger picture in the slightest.

I get the feeling that Bread has a pedophilia background, considering he's the only character whose portrayal seems to be of high maturity, which contrasts Butter's childlike disposition towards all non-humans. But there seems to be nothing in-game to support that idea otherwise.
Cinnamon, considering his aggressive flirting, may suffer from a sexual abuse incident. He flirts only with Dumpling, despite him making his distaste for his advances very clear, and he only appears mildly upset when revealed as a pretty boy against his girlish appearance, so it's not about his sexuality. This leads me to a "doll-up-and-rape" scenario picture, and his outright murderous behaviour when finding Sissy hiding with the axe might imitate a memory of his captor in a similar situation.
As for Chili, that's the one I'm really unsure about. She might hail from a satanic cult that got disbanded, with her being unable to let go and instead sinking further into an almost stereotypical obsession with ritualistic setups, but generally, she simply has way too little screentime to make much of a guess.
With all of that said, the scenarios are really assuming that everyone in Food Town suffers from heavy trauma and painting the very worst that could've happened. But as Dumplings very grounded backstory shows, not everything has to be super-extreme, so take everything I wrote with a whole bucket of salt.

I might be misinterpreting things though. Maybe Bread is actually taking a platonic role, maybe Sissy was just commenting on Butter's height, who knows. I guess if Butter was actually a kid and Bread was in a romantic relationship with her, Sissy would have had more of a reaction.

So about the kitchen scene: Manly points out that the menu is way too diverse. I'm also going to note that chefs have a higher level of qualification than cooks. The sous chef and head chef where I used to work both had 4-year degrees, and several of the cooks had gone to trade school and were completing time under an apprenticeship program. Two of them became proper sous chefs that way with an associate's. Other cooks were just people who walked into the profession, like me. So it's weird that Sissy is a cook, but her assistant is a chef.
And IRL kitchens always do prep. I went from a massive place to small, quick-service restaurants seven years ago and I still get fever dreams about the workload of the big kitchen. The scene captured the feeling of those dreams really well, including the verge into the ridiculous with how varied the menu was, how nothing was prepped, how hard it was to navigate, and how useless her help was. The allergies scene might be just another nightmare aspect, while the food poisoning was the actual event, because it's always a nightmare when someone is all "Excuse me, my son can't have nuts or sesame seeds." And there are always workers who just don't care, who don't see what the big deal is, and you have to be aware of who on staff you can't trust with those special orders, because if something does go wrong, as the overall in charge, it's on you.
I like that Sissy isn't completely right. She's actually kind of a jerk about it, but it's also understandable that she's teetering right on the edge, herself. Milk is wrong for being too passive about the situation, but he's way more sympathetic. If it really is looping, though, Sissy probably will never get the chance to reflect and reach any kind of acceptance.

I think the chef thing was just a term used badly, I don't know if it the original game was in another language or the person who made the game didn't investigate enough.
I think the menu thing is kind of grasping at straws, I don't think it was made to show she had a menu that was too broad, it just had a different recipe every time to convey the anxiety of working on a restaurant, if it had repetitive recipes then the player would soon memorize where everything is and don't fumble around the kitchen.
Maybe on another kind of game engine or more programing in RPG Maker not all minigames would be about walking around and the kitchen minigame would be about cooking everything perfectly while remembering ingredients you have to avoid because the client asked to.
Edit because I forgot to say that if the menu or prepping everything after the orders was a problem they would address it in the dialogue, just like it's very explicit that she was in debt so almost all staff left.

@@raerohan4241 I agree with what you say, what I meant was that sometimes we tend to read too deep in stories and then the author just says there weren't any clues or they didn't put any symbolism, they just put things that they thought they looked cool.
For example on an anime analysis group we went above and beyond trying to make a comparison of Utena with Demian by Heman Hesse because they use the egg quote from the book.
But it turned out that the director read the book in middle school because a friend told him "everything about me is on this book, you'll have to read it to know the real me", he read it and he didn't really understood it at all, let alone what it has to do with being about his friend.
The director didn't really understand the plot but that quote resonated with him.
They didn't have opportunity to talk about the book before graduation so 10 years later on a reunion he asked about the book. The friend didn't really remember recommending the book, saying it was that important about him or reading it at all.
So I guess the book was more important for the director than his friend in the end. But also he just remembered one quote.
So he used it on Utena and that's it.

However I personally believe that in this case it is real because there are many real-world restaurants that often struggle with this problem, which can be fixed just by streamlining their menus.
However if it's your interpretation that the diversity of dishes wasn't symbolic, that it was just there for mixing up gameplay or something, that's fine. It doesn’t work because Milk’s whole ‘this is just how they deal with life’ shtick only applies when people aren’t being drugged, killed and forced to live like those food people just because they got lost. It’d work a bit better if there were a third loop where things in the town aren’t either sugary sweet or edgy as heck, where the food people are still flawed but Sissy is forced to see that those flaws are not as bad as she judges. She is also forced to come to terms with the fact that some of her issues were self-inflicted (not paying staff, too many items, not enough staff), without all this ‘no-one will get in my way’ stuff. Or maybe not have the life less in there and let it be a good horror game, no frills attached.

This game really had a lot of potential to develop and I was actually pretty interested on the story aspect of it. I kind of wish she stayed a fruit for a bit instead of getting slain off by Chili like that (more of I wished she kinda start 'eating' the others instead? I imagined the scenario to be that since 'gluttony' in the title and she's a chef as well. But that's just me). I enjoyed the second pathway of her being known as a human more than the first with her being a fruit, but that still lacked a bit and I was disappointed also. Her passion was great and all and while I do understand her being unable to grasp that the town was able to run away from their problems and live on like nothing happened. But at the same time...eh??? It was a weird and not very solid motivation to suddenly slay the whole town because of that. Again, just my opinion.
I wish we knew the characters more too and see them develop in the game. Sissy especially. She worked hard for her job and tried to keep her restaraunt going. She had passion for cooking, was a barista (it was a weird out of nowhere fact but I guess), and...aside from nearly killing a man, that's about it. She went psycho after a talk with Milk and it was such a weird shift of mood. After that, I really couldn't wrap my head around the motive she had for wanting to kill the others.
There's a lot more I could go on about, but this would be a longer comment than it already is haha.

The edgy emo/goth reminds me of
Dumpling sense they are both quiet.
Candy could have been the blond haired girl, (they’re both very bubbly)
Chili, the blue haired girl (her eyes turn red when she’s angry)
And finally cinnamon is the brown haired girl.

I feel Sissy when it comes to being a cook. I worked as one, once. Far too many things to juggle, uncaring or incompetent coworkers, and management snapping their fingers at you wanting you to both make the food fast but also good. Like in the blink of an eye, mr magic chef man can just make food appear. Cause you know, it's not like it takes time to cook, much less make it presentable. Having your boss breathing down your neck and screeching at you is just such a massive help as well. Then it's just me doing the work (on a weekend, no less) and they wonder why things don't get done in a timely manner or why I would get certain things wrong.
Not every place is bad, but yeah, worst job I've held yet. They ordered me one day to take a broom and dust pan out to the parking lot and clean it, and that was my best day there. No yelling, just one task to focus on, cool winter air rather than heat... I even found $5. Such a great day.

I was initially kidding when I suggested that this story takes place amidst a particularly enthusiastic group of food LARPers, however, it seems this presumption weirdly ended up having some veracity after all.
The concluding commentary and evaluation of the game effectively summarized my own opinions, and I agree with Manly’s thoughts on the somewhat inexplicable meta elements that weren’t properly incorporated or connected to the main plot and its underlying themes. Additionally, I do believe the quality of this experience benefited considerably from its inclusion of minor philosophical moments, which seemed to be primarily concerned with discussing the monotony and stress incurred by simply engaging in the repetitious, regimented behaviors concomitant with an average life.
It also appears possible to derive a bit of a dichotomous “fanatical idealism vs. stoic (almost nihilistic) realism” theme from the profoundly contradictory attitudes and perspectives Sissy harbors towards her life, the isolated society, and the enigmatic characters during her first and second loops through the town. Essentially, her initial route could represent the externalization of one’s deepest fantasies, whereby the stringent limitations and regulations of a typical civilization are inapplicable and all citizens are at complete liberty to pursue their dreams without reservation or fear of accountability. Here, Sissy can finally obtain the life as a respected chef that she always aspired, yet failed, to accomplish. The ease of attainment makes acceptance and indoctrination into this society seem immensely compelling, however, entirely supplanting one’s grasp of reality with quixotic fantasies has inevitable and severe ramifications. In this instance, Sissy must agree to the relinquishment of her prior identity and life, while also remaining complicit in allowing all fellow members to act in accordance with their own self-interest, regardless of how potentially dangerous or sanguinary these desires might be. No matter how tantalizing pure idealism sounds in this case, the ethics of unrestrained wish fulfillment and freedom are not quite as noble nor infallible as they seem.
Conversely, the second route demonstrates an antithetical mentality that recognizes and completely capitulates to the harshness of reality. Sissy, in this instance, remains uncompromising in her own identity and recollection of the suffering she endured at the hands of a banal and uncaring society. She can clearly perceive the bloody destruction wrought from this absurd, obsessively escapist village and acknowledges that confrontation with one’s problems is a more reasonable approach to properly contending with life’s numerous potential tribulations. Sissy desires to more realistically pursue her dreams; however, through her eventual adoption of pure austerity and asceticism, she grows to resent the happiness these townsfolk have found by simply abandoning the rigidity of their previous society. This somewhat envious resentment devolves into hatred and the ruthless compulsion to eliminate all who serve as impediments to her ability to prove that the acquisition of her goals is feasible while still operating within the established confines of a normal society.
I suppose this could be summed up as a cautionary tale of sorts, whereby neither full escapist ideology nor calculated, emotionless ambition are particularly salubrious means of attaining true contentment or success in life. The world is decidedly too complex and nebulous for either reductive mentality to be completely effective.
Though I don’t want to continuously ramble on about this relatively short game, I can also perceive some minor discussions and themes appertaining to the concept of transitioning to adulthood. In a sense, to be a bit more concise, Sissy’s journey from the first to second loop can possibly represent the culling of innocent idealism, which is gradually supplanted by fear, frustration, anguish, and a bit of depressive nihilism that can occasionally accompany the burdens and realities of taking on adult responsibilities while still rather young. Perhaps this could be how the meta story surrounding Rose connects to the events of her dreams; she is at an age where the trepidation of encroaching adulthood is causing her to have recurrent nightmares that feature the corruption of her childish dreams, which clash and inharmoniously blend with the intrusive ruminations of her newly adult mind.
I doubt any of these interpretations are accurate in the slightest, but, as always, I enjoyed putting them together regardless. I’m glad to have the opportunity to share my thoughts, no matter how ludicrous they might be. I certainly look forward to the creator’s next work, as this work is rather impressive for a first attempt.

They're psychos that refuse to get help. But her motivation is too weird. Instead of wanting to survive, go back to life and meaning as she knows, she escapes because she can't accept people are happy? Even though not accepting that murderers and kidnappers are happy is totally excusable because *CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY AND NATURE ITSELF*
Edit: sissy motivations are also a problem because...the food villagers aren't really happy. They just forcibly ignore their mistakes and deviants to basically drug themselves with their own thoughts.

Manly talks about how the ending didn’t seem resolved enough, but I think that part is very symbolic in itself.
In the first part, she was caught up in the illusions of the town and finally was able to restart once she found out the truth (ie: being eaten).
But in the second part, she realizes what the town truly is, and is unable to leave. This symbolizes that although you can escape your own delusions, you cannot escape reality.
This is solidified by her remembrance of her job and her situation, or her coming to reality. Her sharp and hateful tone towards the others further pushes this hypothesis, as it reveals her resentment that although the others can drown themselves in their delusions and live happily within their fallibilities, she is unable to escape the reality saddled upon her by society.

That cooking mini-game lasts for far too long, and it was dreadfully tedious in a way that didn't look comfortable to at the very least control. I'm also pretty sure that this isn't how a restaurant is run, fantasy or otherwise. It's just all a bit toss.
It's also a tad disappointing that the mini-games don't have a specific CG for the deaths, sans the one where you took Cinnamon's axe. Though, how did he find you? Did he just sniff his axe out? Weirdo.
The music in this game is good, but the story - intentionally or not - is just kind of unfortunate. Sissy is unfortunate, the cast of Food Town is unfortunate, and whatever message the themes are trying to say is also extremely unfortunate and undermined by the fact that two of the people in Food Town are serial killing cannibals.
This game isn't really... satisfying? Story-wise? There really isn't much punch or bite to this story. Like the best way to describe this game is "Hm, unfortunate".

I think all minigames got stressful, from the beginning on the first loop because it was really annoying that every character had a minigame you had to pass to get to the next one, with no good dialogue between them so you start questioning why you were playing if the next thing was not worth it.
It got more interesting on the second loop, but there games got more frustrating as they started to get too long.
Then the ending was a very confusing open ending so it didn't feel like an ending and more like playing a long demo (because it isn't even sequel bait if you don't explain anything, it's just not complete).
About the characters, I think it felt just like shock value that they had messed up versions, at least with the non ending we have right now.
But what I feel is that they don't really escape society to do this very bad things, specially because some of them do really serious crimes.
The characters from the woods are apparently from another game, but I find it curious that the character named Kyrie (that can mean lord or God) is the one who is aware of the loops and who set things in motion by giving her specific directions to go to that specific town.
I think it's possible that everyone is dead already and is in some kind of hell or purgatory. Judging the crimes they commit and also that Milk is apparently there just to look on their behavior and rejoice I think it's probably hell and he's the devil. Probably in this version purgatory is an opportunity you have to accept your guilt instead of living in a bubble.
But I still don't understand why underpaying your staff can compare to eating people.

I feel like it is intentional that the restaurant was that way. Sissy had the unfortunate decision to start her restaurant big, what got her in debt, and she wasn't able to have proper employees because she couldn't pay them the average salary due to the debt. Also I think that the minigames on the second loop are supposed to be dreadful, it is supposed to make you uncomfortable, because Sissy is in an uncomfortable reality, she is irritated that people simply ran away from their problems when she had to go through all of that shit. The comments I read portray Sissy as a selfish person who victimizes herself, but I think that even though the failure of her restaurant and the unfortunate life she had are kind of her fault I don't think that makes her any less of a victim. She was too ambitious and ended up getting delusional about how running a restaurant would be. But she was too young. Now, the only two cannibals in the city are Candy and Chili. I don't think the story was unsatisfying at all.
One theory that a lot of people think is that they are in a kind of purgatory, but I don't know.

So I couldn't help but noticing: Sissy mentioned that Butter might "be one of those girls who looks young," and Bread mentioned that they were "friends since childhood." Taking into account their ages (22&26), it might just be age play that is related to the trauma in Butter's past. Tomato is masochistic, Cinnamon is cross-dressing, Chili shows sadistic tendencies, and milk just likes to watch. The fruit said that they were surprised that milk didn't ask for any lesbian action in return for his help, and that they also just like to lay there and let other's do the work for them. Dumpling was bullied for being mute, and "committed a certain crime in relation to that." This was most likely a school shooting. He's clearly involved with cinnamon, as much as he denies it. The people in the woods are my little pony fanatics. Candy is a cannibal. Basically, most people cast out from society are not dangerous criminals; they are just different. The game shows how Sissy, a normal person, accepts or rejects them.

About her being a fruit, I don't think she would do that because the other characters were specially people who were hated upon for doing extreme body mods, as all characters there had different problems with society.

Some of the characters...also kinda had some unfortunate implications stacked on them because of this plot, but I won't hammer it or anything. Could just be looking too much into it as well.
As a first attempt, it's decent. I'd be curious to see what else the maker of this game does down the line. The art I actually found kinda nice. 1. This is Fae shit. Some rules of the fae being don’t give them your name, don’t eat their food, don’t accept their gifts. She did all of those things and it was clear those things were meant to be mistakes. Cinnamon gave her a plushie, surprised at how no one had done that yet and called dumpling out on it. Butter was instant on her eating so she could join them. She lost her name and in turn herself.
Oh I forgot, there also rules such as: always be polite, but never say thank you or else you owe them, never stray from the path, do not lie, always keep your word, etc etc. I feel like those also apply.
    2. This is the literal 3rd circle of hell. That she killed her customer and now she’s wandering gluttony. The food are now just demons who have given into the hedonism of the hell. The campers are lost souls who have yet to give into it. Dumpling would be like Virgil, guiding her through hell. Milk being Beelzebub, overseeing it all. Chili may be Cerberus preventing the dead from leaving. And Kyrie is masquerading as a lost soul with the intent to corrupt them, aka help them find their “true form”. He definitely gives me “snake misguiding Eve” vibes.
*And Some interesting things to note that I haven’t yet seen discussed:
Tomato looks like a recolored version of Mamoru right? Their personalities seem similar too.
Also, I see Gin dead in the background of Chilis district, and Mitsuru dead in Candy’s.. and they were the only two who actually mentioned wanting to leave, they seemed lost and confused. Teru too..
And what was up with that Gin/Kyrie dynamic? He shut Gin down awfully quick when she began questioning her reality but not Mitsuru, and her entire demeanor changed when he did too, like she just melted into him, yk? Idk.
Anyway, just wanted to gather all my thoughts up, might make for some interesting discussion or something.

This game was building up to be so good, and was drawing on the questionable link between 'fitting in' and being a valid person...but the ending kind of threw all of its depth away, only to conclude with a watered-down 'try harder' message. The characters of Onion and Butter (& Bread) were particularly interesting, but then they were just placed in the same category as the violent characters, all under the tagline of 'abnormality is wrong.' Then the main character walked away feeling really proud of herself for...basically, having a better mental state than people who were all either traumatized or murderous? This whole time, she could have just walked into a mental hospital, said, "Well, well, you're all so sad---unlike me, who obviously tries way harder to to 'fit in' with society than you all" then she could have walked away in self-satisfaction, all gung-ho about solving her restaurant issues (like she did in the game). (On top of that, her problem was never even 'not trying hard enough,' it was not knowing enough about owning a restaurant...Part of solving a problem is making adjustments in response to previous outcomes, not just 'trying hard' continuously...)

YES EXACTLY I came back to this game because I had remembered it before I was going to bed. The next day I finished the series again and I see your comment. Your analysis was absolutely incredible. You addressed many points other people have not. You also mentioned your own kind of interpretation of this kind of story. I love how you describe the seeds the story plants and the established concepts and characters. Looking at it through your lenses it makes me love my favorite character Chili even more. Because by your logic she is the idea of embracing the concept of being abnormal, enigmatic, and bizarre. Without the use of euphemisms or downplaying the seriousness of certain events you can really show an empathetic perspective. Truly intelligent! Not only did you establish your own interpretation with context but you were able to construct a proper foundation without being blinded by external factors. Like how many individuals tied it to something external like the concept of hell. It’s not wrong it’s just a more myopic view in my opinion. ❤

So, Sissy can't accept that these people run away from their problems, so she became spiteful and violent? I want to say she's being a bit overdramatic. Though some of them are murderers. Should have just run straight home after escaping.

The concept appealed to me right away, and while I was put off by the art style for the most part, at least until, the food people came in, I loved the characters and story so eventually as everything came into light I I grew to actually really like the art style; I think I just had to get used to it and the story fleshed out its character, you could say. The appeal for the art style came from how well it fit the story, how well it suits the designs, and it was a weird but fun change for my mind to go through.

Feels like a loss of innocence type deal. Maybe someone young just starting to realize that the world isn't as bright and shiny as they thought, and that the future they were so sure about (being a chef) had its own possible pitfalls. So the village looking very happy at first but gradually getting nastier (both in Sissi's meeting Chili and the second playthrough) could be a metaphor for Rose realizing her life isn't going to be as perfect as she might have thought.
Just an idea about a 3 year old playthrough.

Did anyone notice that Sissy is fully aware of what is going on the firsts run (because she is just playing along) while the player sees it all fake?
So it looks like she had a pretty hard job to observe all that and act as if everything is fine and maybe that was the reason why she lost her mind in the end when she got in the forest and got eaten by Chilli.
For some reason when Sissy lost her mind player starts to see things the way they are.
Chilli is not a food and not a human either and not apart of that town but for some reason, everyone knows her. Probably she is a metaphor for something.
In the end, when she defeats Chilly, Sissy mentions adulthood.
For me, this game sort of reminds game "The path" which was released earlier and also has some similarity that Red Riding Hood is eaten by the wolf.

    This is kinda strange game.
Feels like in both parts Sissy really "cant leave" - in first she became food itself (whatever it means) and in second, grim one she due all torment became not less psychotic then Town inhabitants. She became just like them, one of them. I cant say even which of parts is...better.
And yeah, demanding of everyone to "work hard" just because you put unreachable goal for yourself and now have to beat your head against wall isnt fair. Ok, you think they "wasting their life" but its THEIR life. Yet, i dont anderstand whole "food" fuss and how Milk managed to infiltrate this town.
Additional, very dark note - in first half Dumpling mentions that there was a lot peoples living in Candy district and now its Candy all alone. Does that mean SHE ATE EVERYONE? Its kinda not great to live in such sanctuary for outcasts where one lunatic can literally kill everyone around.

Something tells me the "food" names were just codenames they chose in order to find out if a stranger was actually dangerous or if that's someone that accepted their community. So, when Sissy said she was a passionfruit, herself she didn't think much of it, but to the eyes of the others, they assumed she already accepted their way of living and found it strange she wanted to leave the "community".
And by the end, when Sissy mentions how she can't "leave", it must be because she's actually Rose dreaming of a constant recurrent nightmare. So, she can either accept the fact that she's living a lie or face the gruesome reality that is "Adulthood".

_Considering this game has gone on for 4 parts, I’m disappointed_
In the first one, Sissy went along with being a food, so she fit in sort of, the second she stayed human so they were after her. I didn't like the third ending with Sissy suddenly being judgmental because her own life sucks. If you can’t deal with your problems, don’t resent others for finding solutions to theirs, no matter how bizarre.
The game had an interesting premise, but the minigames didn’t add anything. The restaurant one got old after 2 menu items - you can’t possibly be so naïve to open a restaurant without sufficient funds to hire a good chef & staff, so the point of that minigame turned out to be pointless. The battle with Cinnamon went on repetitively for way too long, even with you being an excellent player. If the game was supposed to be about growing up & dealing with life, it should have stuck to building the characters more than padding with minigames. And whatever meta game thing with "Rose" might be teased, nothing made me care enough to be curious about it.

    • @annabella1650

      @NaturalFlirtGamer
I’d argue that the others weren’t finding solutions, other than Bread, Butter and possibly Dumpling. Candy was just allowed to kill and eat people, Cinnamon was ‘dealing with the leftovers’, Chilli seemed to be killing people and Milk knew exactly what was going on and turning a blind eye to it because ‘that’s just your opinion man’. Sissy getting judgemental because they were escaping reality was probably the dummest thing she could’ve been mad about, given that she had a lot of other, justified axes to grind. The imprisonment, drugging (implied in loop two and shown in loop one), attempted murder (Cinnamon, Chilli, Tomato and Dumpling), actual murders (Candy) are the things to be angry about. The entire thing feels like it falls on its face when it turn into a ‘face reality’ message.

    • @NaturalFlirtGamer
      @NaturalFlirtGamer 4 года назад +15

@@annabella1650 Yeah, the game had a great premise & could have been a funny, biting satire on life with a bit more humor or sarcasm & no mini-games. And I think that may be what the goal was for the game, but it missed.

    • @annabella1650
      @annabella1650 4 года назад +33

      @NaturalFlirtGamer
I think the message could’ve worked if the cannibalism was cut, and instead Chilli was obsessed with the occult and Candy was taking drugs or something. You could keep the creep factor, whilst also making Sissy’s whole ‘you all disgust me’ bit less justified because they’re not hurting anyone. You can’t play the ‘this is how some people live, accept it’ shtick when they are actively trying to hurt others.

    • @fanaticaH

I agree, the game had so much potential but it ended with a weird open ending that didn't explain anything.
Also the characters from the woods are apparently just a cameo from another game and don't have any meaning in this game other than to have a shout-out to that game, so it only makes things more confusing.
I haven't played that game so I don't know if Rose is also from there or if playing the game would make me understand this.
About the minigames, I think it was genius how they used normal RPG Maker walking to create a large variety of games, but in a game about story having too much minigames makes it frustrating to the player, specially if you don't have the programing to add more things.
I think the kitchen minigame wouldn't feel like a drag if it was actually about making exact orders while not burning the food and being quick.

Why did the music decide to go so fucking hard during chilli boss fight. I wanted to know more about cinnamon. Because it just look like they were living in the power plant that probably run the whole town. Wanted to be a baker or something and made it look like a fact store. As they really were dismembering bodies for the town. Chili was, god idk someone who was a killer who just lived in the town because it was safe. But anyone that wonder to close she would kill to feed her serial killer stuff.
I do belive the real ending is her seeing the town for what it is. And Milk being a scientist just seeing how they function which to a certain extant people know about the town. But no one goes there. (Like some real place in real life. I.e oniontown.)
The protag life is difficult but refuses to give up. And it framed like adulthood when really it just shitty people. Fucking with your life. She see them for what they are. Murders or victims but she no longer feels compassion to see some just need help. But she say selfish thing such they should suffere just like her because it part of adult life. When that clearly not true. Wven tho she has come to thag conclusion she doesn't get to live. Just like the people around the fire. The only one who seems to remeber the town for what it is. Is kyrie and we know nothing about him. The game honestly just need more.
    More character devlopment or backstory.
But all around it was a soild, the basic plot/meta is just- who the fuck is rose?! Which i get they couldn't do everything. They are new so im sure things will get better as they contuine.
