This game unsettles me. Every time you take a step I expect blood and stuff like that to suddenly appear and it just doesn't, but I have the feeling that's going to happen and I just don't know when. The subtle creepy moments don't help.

I think it's the opposite... they actively AVOIDS human. Our protag would be shooed away multiple times if dumpling isn't convinced that she's also fruit. Bread and butter story implied that they were from human town, but moved here to be able to be themselves (aka they can't admit being food to humans)
Do note that Butter _does_ melt a little, @@letsreadtextbook1687. She definitely started out as human, but the game kinda shows us that she isn't human anymore.

Apparently, Sissy is having a terrible nightmare in which she wanders into a forest and encounters a group of people currently engaged in a rather dedicated LARP session where everyone is dressed up as their favorite food items.

The general structure and operation of this society of auto-cannibalistic food-people are certainly a tad questionable, to say the least. For instance, they’re clearly cultivating gardens and fields of various fruits, vegetables, and wheat for consumption; however, as sentient crop-based lifeforms themselves, wouldn’t these fecund plots of land essentially represent where they seed and gestate the next generation of their populace? Are they basically eating their own newly-sprouted offspring? If not, do I dare ask how they procreate and what sorts of chimerical combinations will result from cross-breeding between foods? We see tomatoes splattered on trees, would that be akin to the residual bloodstains from a horrific murder? Conversely, as Manly stated, is there an implied hierarchy whereby some members of the same species (like Mr. Tomato) are sapient and anthropomorphic while others are purely… _vegetative_ ?
On a less facetious note, it will certainly be quite interesting to follow the unveiling of the mysteries surrounding this strange, suspicious society as the game progresses.

There are 8 categories of vegetables: Roots, Tubers, Flowers, Bulbs, Seeds, Leaves, Stems, and Fruits, so tomato belongs in both districts and the "Vegetable district" should be split into 8 sub-districts

I'm loving this game! The only nitpick I have is the font used for the text. It's hard to read some of the time. That, and on the title screen the anti-aliased title contrasts with the pixel art style of everything else.
