I know its a weird observation to make but its strangely refreshing to have a RPG maker game that uses pixel art with normal (well... for anime at least) proportions instead of like the chibi type sprites pretty much every other game uses. Wish more games would try stuff like that.

I feel like the characters are a bit too tall though
Late ti the party but, that's the thing about perspective. If the spite is faced straight to the camera, it'll look out of place with the environment and can look stiff. These kind of sprites are normally used in 2d planes and not for slight top-down perspectives, which are used in almost every RPG game. The head is bound to look a bit bigger if you're looking from a bird-perspective
@@TomTom-wn3xn Ehhh this definitely looks more proportional than the typical big-headed anime sprites used do. The increase in head size is far larger than the perspective would merit.

I haven’t watched the full video yet but I’m guessing the locked up stuff and no windows is because of stuff not to happen after the main story

ODST HAZARD Without spoiling, the stories are similar, but was a young man & his parents in the original manga & a different ending. But the look of the monster, tho similar, was much more horrible in Junji Ito story. It was a quick short one & worth reading just for monster! This had the same kind of quiet, tense build-up & was very well done. I liked this game.

Renegade Hero I think the game expanded the idea very nicely. I loved the original short story because it was just totally creepy with that end bulge! And of course, the art is kind of incomparable. I am huge fan of Junji Ito's work - Tomie is another favorite.
Despite the game being only in black and white, I'm actually liking it and really looking forward to the rest. I really like RPG Maker horror games, simple graphics and they normally have a good story. They're even better when Manly plays them!

This is a really well-made RPG Horror game so far, I'm really liking the look of it.
I can see why Junji Ito was the main inspiration for this game, his works are utterly terrifying and leaves a lasting impression on you.
I knew this had a Junji ito vibe just from reading the title. So glad that I was right
And I like the other subtle references to his works, like the section in the math book being about spirals
I agree, I very much enjoy how subtle most of the references are. The fishing manual was a particularly delicate reference to Gyo, which considering its subject matter, is difficult enough to pull off without being heavy-handed.
The names too. Namie in particular, but also Hanae, recalls to mind Tomie.

Idk what the flying fruity fuck that grandpa raisin is but you bet your ass if I see any creepy as fuck house next to one i wanted to buy I get the hell out of there pronto! That being said this simple horror is so effective because it could happen to you. Rewatching some old videos now that Manly's hit a million subscribers and goodness gracious, I can't believe that this video has been out for 5+ years already. It really doesn't feel like it's aged badly, it's almost like it aged like fine wine lol ! It really does feel nostalgic, I feel at peace despite it being a horror game

The main character never mentioned the widow to him. Just trying to get inside the room and finding the other tenants wallet. Omata knows what’s going on and pretty much sentenced her to death

That Junji Ito Story was incredible, just read it 2 or 3 Weeks ago, so this Video fits just perfect :)
Dagnabbit, that last part actually got me! Great game so far. Yeah, a little generic as far as the story goes, and your character is a little frustratingly stupid (SOMEONE IN HOUSE? OH DEAR, BETTER GO TO SLEEP AND NOT CALL ANYBODY), but somehow she remains likeable enough and the atmosphere is fantastic. It's a nice, slowburn to start up, but it also doesn't drag on and on. Can't wait for the next part!
To be fair, Name doesn't have a cellphone so she can't really call for help when she needs to, but she should've at least taken photos of the footprints as evidence.
I'm gonna need to research this Junji Ito guy. Sounds like he could really help feed my hard on for horror.

Hopefully you like cosmic horror. Some people can't get into it but his artwork paints a vivid picture.
One of his one-shots "Glyceride" is some of the funniest shit and I have grossed out a couple of my friends showing them some scans on the face cheese part.
Highly recommend starting with Uzumaki (spirals) or Tomie. Spirals has an actual ending but Tomie doesn't.
Junji Ito is, without a doubt, one of the best in horror. As another comment has suggested, start out with Tomie or Uzumaki, but I also recommend Lovesick Dead.
Spirals is really good and pretty spooky. 100% recommended
I started with Hellstar Remina, which was interesting, went to the Enigma of Amigara Fault, then to Uzumaki and Tomie. All freaky as all hell @_@

I've never read any of Junji Ito's stories, but this is making me think I need to check them out. Really good so far. The monster genuinely scared me, and I like the Gameboy style presentation so far.

Junji Ito is my favorite horror manga author, so this is really awesome to me.
Your voice is very reminiscent of Cry's, which I mean in a very good way. His voice is quite soothing, as is yours, though yours is much deeper (which is even better, honestly)

Okay so I remember playing this before I knew what a Junji Ito is. Years after I finished the game I read "The Neighbor's Window" and I was like "didn't I play a game like this?" so I've been looking for that game and I found it! I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW!
The monochrome color palette really helps with the creep factor. Never thought gameboy graphics could be so unsettling

The book being about spirals (and a bizarre fixation on their inner workings driving one to do totally insane things, like count the number of spiral-related words on a page) is one of the best, sliest homages I could have expected.
This game is awesome. It hits that Junji Ito "quality realism + hyper-surreal scenarios" spot right in the center.
