It's cool that this & System Shock kinda pioneered the dynamic combat music thing. Games still do that to this day (Stalker 2 being the latest example I know of).
Hit he hard too. Took me 3-4 seconds to remember the flute was essential to play to gain the "cup of wonder" talisman. Imho, this is also a unplaned reference to the mythological figure Orpheus, an ancient greek hero/singer who conquered the underworld without weapons, merely singing and playing a lyre, to save some girl.
I seriously can't give enough credit to the other runners -- Nin, gammadragon, lagdotcom, thecybercat, and dandandan5. It's all thanks to their efforts and documentation (pastebin.com/gnTScSQ8 and forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/ultima_underworld_1.html) that it was even possible to pick up and learn this run 7 years later.
@@inlustria nice. I love this game and it's sequel. I may try to speedrun it, though I'm not sure I'd grind to get a decent time. The run seems to skip a lot of the game that, casually, makes the game super fun. Of course, just because I speedrun it, doesn't mean I can't also play it casually...
Never watched a speedrun of this before. What's going on with burning various items? I'm assuming it's some kind of exploit, but I couldn't figure out what exactly it did. My best guess is that it preserves the item's utility but prevents it from wearing out?
It is just as you mentioned it: The item can now be used an unlimited number of time. The exploit did only work in the older versions of the game - my UW 1+2 collection on CD was already fixed.
I mean. There was the absolutely don't talk about it big secret spoiler ending for Getting Over It where you'd be put in a chatroom with anyone else who's beaten it recently so you can leave a message to the developer or, if you had good timing, the developer could be there to personally congratulate you
Makes me wonder who would anwser the call now. There used to be a "Roger Rabbit" Game and you had to call a phone number irl to get some hints for the game. The number is/was a number for a "naughty" telephone service nowadays.
Throws away a good longsword, picks up wooden flute. Throws away the map right at the start. Destroys items to exploit them. Uses the silver seed tree as a suicidal teleporter.🤣This guy used every exploit and dirty trick i know in this game plus some i was not aware of yet (Tybalt). And he does this dressed like a girl.
Means the speed run is to just beat the game, not complete 100% of it or some amount of it. Basically you can skip as much as you can to get lowest time
Brilliant :) Some nice optimisations and good movement especially around 13:30. Grats on the run!
I loved this game

Very fond memories of this game.
The shopping list you gotta run through in this game lol. Bravo on 16 minutes.
2:52 A serviceable longsword? What is this worthless trinket!? Ahh yes, this hastily-carved flute is surely the superior choice here.
Hit he hard too.

I remember accidentally falling down the Privy when this game first came out. I think they jumped down on purpose for this run.
I just got back into this game a week ago. I look on the leaderboards today. 16m 33s made 6 months ago.
Wow.

@17:42 They want you to call Origin? XD cute. Imagine devs did that today to congratulate you on beating their game.

Only would have been better with MT-32.
Matter of taste really, I’m a sucker for Adlib.

What is (any%)?

Also includes any glitches you can exploit, like clipping through walls
