@@agricola even so, the overfishing will make it difficult for the base population to rise back up, meaning he won't have as much, if any bass to fish/eat in the future because he overfished now.
Even in situations like this where it isn't illegal, overfishing still is bad, even if just for the fisher/lake owner themselves.

Apparently in this game there's no need to constantly move the lure to entice the fish so you can let the lure sink completely unmoving and they still bite, but I still love the fact that Manly still does the infamous fisherman's trick anyways, it's engraved into our gamer minds

@@torpledook7728 If you still read these comments, I would probably do that and make it part of the mechanic. Some fish get skittish if you reel too fast, some want what they think is a dead fish, some only bite if it jigs, etc.
It would allow the fishing part to be expanded more for a full game

I did enjoy the first time that creature showed up on screen. The transition from the above to below water camera angle seems like its a interesting mechanic to work with for a horror game.
My main concern would be how the fishing itself can be extended into a full game

I've heard of this game before when people were talking about the "lost evil farm" game. Basically the game does not exist, it was a composite of multiple things. There was mention of the game having a fishing mini game. But it's been figured that people were misremembering *this* game as being that mini game.

I remember an anime called Mermaid Forest. It was about people eating mermaid sushi to become immortal. But instead most of the time it just turned you into a monster. And the main character ate it by accident not knowing it came from a mermaid. But he ended up being immortal and kept having to fight the people who got turned into monsters. I only saw 2 episodes cause it was back in the 90's before anime was popular and it was kept in the art and international section. It was literally before anime had it's own section in video stores. You know back when video hut blockbuster and VHS tapes were still a thing.

This is really cool! I didn't check the developer until after that thing in the lake (under the boat) managed to make me suck in a breath, as I, like Manly, hadn't considered checking anywhere other than the shoreline for what could be making Earl feel watched. Not gonna lie though, when I saw the hand with the wedding band at the bottom of the lake, I immediately thought it was Earl's, and sure enough his left hand is covered with a gray glove on the surface. I was waiting for it to turn into something extremely warped. Sincerely hoping that, with the reveal that it's Earl's _wife's_ hand, that it doesn't dive into something more typical of the genre.

This game's background ambience is crazy, i had to pause multiple times to check if notices were coming from my other room to finally figure its littlest rustling noices are coming from the game.

The feel of this game is just so nice because it reminds me of the old nintendo games like Majora's Mask. The surroundings are just so nice

Omg??’!!! I remember seeing a few episodes as kid and could never remember what on earth I was watching and how I could find it, might do a nostalgia watch.

reminds me of fishing with my brothers on my aunt's farm. it was always kinda creepy cause nearby behind a hill was where they would put any of the goats that died, so ya always got to see some in various states of decay
Level 2: fishing with his wife's chunks behind him. He talks to them... and apparently starts hearing legit responses.
Level 3: in space, in a space boat, with the horror behind him, fishing space bass out of nebulae.
Level 4: talking about his catches in the bait shop.
OOH!
Level 5: married to the horror, takes their kids fishing. Accosted by dead wife's ghost.

I’m thinking maybe this man is in purgatory? Like, maybe him and his wife were killed by someone and their bodies were dumped in the lake. Or perhaps his wife was murdered and went missing while he was out fishing, but one day he found her body in the water but something happened and he drowned in the lake, causing him to relive that day over and over in hell or somethin?
I can't help but feel doubt that's what the creator is going for, but that would make for some fascinating horror!

I think it's pretty cool that the camera moves to the lure and leaves you with no view of the player character. That and the dialogue for seemingly every fish.

Seems like a very relaxing game with nothing wrong in it whatsoever.
So Earl, Cletus and Billy-Joe had a night of fishing and drinking beer. Cletus and Billy-Joe decided to prank Earl. That's why Billy-Joe took Earl's ring when he wasn't looking and Cletus put it on a hand he brought home from the morgue he works at. They put the ring on the hand and tossed it in the lake. They wanted to see Earl's reaction. However it's gotten very late and they went home.
Earl's wife was mad about him losing the ring and sent him out to find it. Hungover and without memory of the past night, Earl sets sail to find the ring. Instead he found the prank from night ago.

I have a feeling that the plot might be a little predictable, but that doesn't mean the game won't still be fun or interesting! And if I'm wrong, then it'll be interesting to see what direction it goes. Either way, a horror fishing game is still a pretty unique idea, and I'm loving the vibe so far!

Manly mentioning My Bride Is A Mermaid unlocked a core memory. That was the first anime I finished years ago.
Watching this reminded me of another game that I remember that I can't find a video of now, Something similar to this but it was like about discovering a lake's secrets and the end had a bunch of hands.
I have to admit that I've watched and listened to this playthrough several times, there's just something about this one that's especially calming

Look kid, that is traditional fishing,as fish dont get baited easily and keeping the lure at the bottom will normally get you sea trash.
That first sight of the thing under the boat was very scary and cool.
I've watched Mononoke too! The medicine seller is so cool! I love the art and animation. Every pattern looks like it could be put on a kimono. I think my favorite arc was the Umi Bozu Arc.

This game gives the same vibes what fishing and just boat rowing gives here in Finland. 😂 Here in north we people have folk tales of ”folk” living under the surface, some of which would try to drag you into bottom of the lake. Yet, old folk tales and ”spells” tell how to repel them. Such as ”Me on land, Näkki into lake!”, and addressing their true form would startle them and flee back into the bottom of lake.

Fun demo, but I hope to God that the plot isn't "man kills wife because wacky psychological/paranormal shit happened". It's the most overused and boring trope that ever plagued the horror game industry. Even worse than those dumb slender clones back in the day
I didn't even consider that option until someone suggested it during their playthrough. Interesting idea at first until I pretty much realized what you said. Earl's not a killer. He just wants to do some fishin once in a while.

At first I thought that while he was drunk he killed his wife because they got into an argument for him losing his ring them killed her, so I then examined the... thing to see if maybe it was missing a hand (proving that its his wife) but I’m pretty sure it had both hands.
