The metronome portion of the video will be most helpful for everyone that wants to eliminate 3 putts and learn to dial their speeds in to near perfection from a distance. The grip portion of the video is the most important for myself because I need to increase my percentage of putts made within 10’ of the hole 🕳️ ,so I can capitalize on good greens in regulation shots and make more birdies. Keep up the great content 👍
Reinforcement of why im a good putter! i already do at least 90% of what you say in the video esp as regards set up,will get the tempo app tho My top tip for good sportsmen that are bad putters is to connect your brain/natural abilities to the roll of the ball Do this by holding the follow through on 20-30ft putts and watch it roll, feel the connection then go to right hand only and/or eyes shut hold the follow through and imagine the ball rolling and predict short good or long
Loved the Rotate, Tuck, Tilt except I use a 38" weighted counterbalanced putter (like Ricky Fowler and Wyndham Clark) so I have to grip the putter about halfway down the long grip to get the putter to lie flat and into the proper position. My eyes are over the back of the ball and everything else seems OK. Thoughts?????
Ive been watching all your videos since i got into golf under 2 years ago, and i must say your videos helps alot in understanding the mechanics of a stroke. On the road to breaking 80’s and finding putting more valuable at this stage. Thank you pozark and tod, you have been great.
Great video fellas ❤ With regards to the metronome portion @ 21:27 I have a few extra details for you or the viewers to consider for your teaching. I’m a drummer 🥁 and a 1 handicap sr golfer 🏌🏻, so I’m going to add some extra fine detail to the lesson. When you count while you putt ,you’re bang on with your concept of counting ,it works to perfection as you develop the feel of the green speeds each round. To really fine tune this skill below is some added detail. I always count 1&-2& (one-an,two-an) for a 12’ putt ,at a tempo of 60 beats 🎧 per minute on green speeds around 10 on the stimpmeter. To understand the count in 1/8th notes and get the actual tempo ,clap your hands 1 time per second and count 1&-2&-3&-4& ( notice that when you say & , you are not clapping, you’re between claps.) So to effectively and precisely use this method you should be counting in 1/8th notes 🎶 1 on the backswing, & at the completion of the backswing , 2 on contact with the ball and & at the completion of the follow through. As the putt gets shorter the count is exactly the same 1&-2& (one-an,two-an) (which would be two claps or two beats saying one-an,two-an) but your tempo actually slows to like 50 bpm. As the putt gets longer the count is exactly the same 1&-2& (One-an,two-an) but your tempo actually increases to like 70 bpm. As everyone gets the feel of counting the rhythm 🥁, at 60 beats or claps per second, they will easily learn to feel the need to slow the tempo down a little when the are closer than 12’ and speed it up a little when the putt gets longer . Your brain will get the feel of the tempo required but generally it is between -50bpm for a 3’ -60bpm for a 12’ -70bpm for a 21’ But the count is always 1& - 2& Cheers 🥂 hope this helps anyone that wants to improve their putting and lower their scores.
Why exactly do you slow down tempo for shorter putts? I thought the idea of this is that the tempo is always the same and the swing length just changes
@@eronmccool the count for tempo is always the same, it’s the beats per minute that increases or decreases based on the distance of the putt . 1and2and 1 and two and 1 and two and
Awesome video. So many gems. Two points for distance control: practice putting looking at the hole/target, it's almost magical. I guess the athletic brainwaves takes over. Well we aren't looking at ball when shooting a baskeball are we ;) The other and most important thing is the right trigger finger on the aft side of the shaft. Just like when you throw stuff in the basket, the bin, etc. the brain tells this point how much force to apply to move the object the correct length. So in your brain connect the trigger finger pressure point to the hole/target and trust it...magic. Just my 2 cents
The metronome was great. Having been away from the game for a number of years, rhythm was the biggest struggle for me to regain (it's the fluid that sits between each swing joint for me). I bought a small metronome and with an hours work and finding my own natural body rhythm, it worked brilliantly for...everything - putting, short game, full swings. Keep up the great work. From a fan in Ireland.
Great video. I have a checkpoint that helps me. At set up, with very loose arms and hands, I lift the putter slightly. If the sweet spot stays aligned to the ball, I'm in good shape. If it moves toward me, even slightly, I'm too far from the ball. I then adjust until it moves straight up, and then I'm ready to go.
Monday after having a good front 9,my game fell apart mostly due to my putting including a number of missed short putts. After I finished with a 4 putt 😢 on the 18th hole, I came home and watched this video for a 4th time. I watched it slowly and paid close attention. I started checking my grip. I’ve used the same one for years. Bingo! My palms were not parallel. Right hand too much on top. This was causing me to pull longer putts to the left and agonizingly pushing short putts to the right. I then looked at my putter length and my eyes fell on top of the ball. I made a slight adjustment to fall just to the inside. Then another bingo moment came when I finally heard how important it is to get the shoulders square to the line and arms hanging down straight frame the shoulders. Spent 1 hour on practice green. I can’t wait to play my next round. I’ve got to get this corrected set up ingrained but now I just swing the club and the ball goes down the line that I am aiming on and thanks to the slightly inside set up, I can see. I’ve ordered the book!!! I’ll keep reviewing the most important putting lesson ever!!!
Awesome video! Both of you articulate very well and explain things tremendously. I only have a question regarding the setup when gripping the putter. The further you grip the putter down the grip, the more your eyeline is over the ball. Conversely, the further you grip toward the end of the handle, the further your eyeline is behind the ball. So, how do you determine where to place your hands on the putter?
This is consistent to what I heard Trevino tell Paul Way on the practice putting green at The Open back in the early 80s he told him “ feel you are hitting the ball with the shaft and it’s the same swing thought right through the bag” which I thought summarised the impact position perfectly, your thoughts please.
Great video - My question is - during the putting motion where do you suggest to focus the eyes- back of ball, top of ball, in front on a mark on the putting line, or elsewhere? Thanks
I want to invest in a higher MOI more forgiving putter; with the proper setup should I be looking at a slight toe hang putter (mallet?). I’ve been putting with a blade. Thanks
Interesting how Adam and Todd are essentially the same size and build. Wondering how this facilitates learning when your coach and mentor has many similar body characteristics. A great visual image and movement pattern to follow. Probably wouldn’t work if there was no athletic skills or good coaching insights involved.
If your putter is to long can you just choke up to where you need it. I see tour player recently using a longer putter and choking up and it ax as a counter balance.
Is it theoretically possible to grip down on a 35” putter? (I’ve alread😮y taken your advice from other putting videos and am now using a 33” putter) but my favorite yes putter, which I am afraid to cut down for fear of ruining it’s sweet spot ‘pong-at-contact’ feeling (spontaneous frequency matching or whatever) is still usable now that I have the first two portions of set up under control. My guess is that it may be difficult to ‘take it onto the course’. I already think too much and at the most inoportune times!😵💫 The discussion on grip setup will require some investigation on the putting green and my other question regards the “motive force “ of the putt. Is it a shoulder-rock-gut-putt or do you putt more with the in-your-case-perfectly-aligned-hanging-arms-that-in-fact-do pass -the body?
I don't know about the rest of you but if I was on the putting green when this was being recorded, I would have been a lot closer than that girl and others in the background and making sure I was catching every word being said.
Troups, I have been following your videos for some and this is a real gen, At 77years of age are now play off a 1 handicap, and now really feel I have done it all with your help, thankyou and I will now polish the grooves for the last time, and suggest to all young up and comers that they hook into your vids, and enjoy the ride. GARY.
Ultimately the secret of good putting is delusional confidence!,expect to roll them close and a lot will go in! Forget the bad ones and/ or blame something other than you!
We have all these opinions, philosophies. and theories, but people who make these videos never get to the scientific facts. The guy who made 52 of 52 from inside 10 feet to win this year knows how to putt. It proves that there is a proper way. Most touring pro's today, know that way. Most RUclips bloggers do not. For starters, people twist the blade while on the arc. No blogger tells you that. But there are at least 3 arc training aids out there which now can show you that. Most of them don't. And nobody tells you why virtually ALL touring pro's today "release" the putter. Again. they don't really know why. They are stuck in their long held opinions which for the most part are worthless. You must find out why a guy with a bad stroke was such a great putter. His name is Ben Crenshaw. Tiger did. And find out just why Tiger practices putting endlessly to this day with his right hand only. There is a reason for that. Many touring pros practice with a long putter. There is a reason for that too. It's not all this other silly crap. In the end you have to learn how to keep the blade PERPENDICULAR to the single tilted path the shaft travels on (it's plane). All this time an arc is going on. NOBODY TELLS YOU THAT.
Which Tip helped you out the most? Let us know! 🏌

Great video explaining three putting @1:45 as their number one student literally 3 putts right behind them 😂
After a year of frustration, your putting videos have really helped me. Gaining confidence with each round. You putting tool is a great aid. Thanks.

The right heel pad and hands directly under the shoulders helped me with face control........ great stuff
The right heel pad in the putter grip. Really great feel and confidence boost immediately. Really stabilized the putter face.
Thank you for staying focused on Todd!!!!
Great collaboration. Thank you . Sones is a genius .
Porzak tips the best, great teacher!

Lot's of great putting nuggets...Setup is king, pressure on side of grip, brush like a calligraphy stroke, & 72 bpm. Thanks @ProzakGolf
Congrats Todd & Adam for this video, just gold!!! Keep it up. Blessings to both of you
The videos you have done with Todd have been awesome.
Excellent info. I'll be able to confidently 3 putt more often now

Here I was thinking more thumb pressure to prevent me from closing the face. Just tried the praying pressure and fixed it instantly!
