In this Choppin' It Up we wanted to talk about the perspective change between bulking and cutting and the way it makes you look at food and calories. The difference between the two is huge and all three of us are now 2 weeks into our competition prep which I thought would be perfect timing for a Choppin' It Up! I agree with OB2...when cutting people always think you're judging them in regards to their food choices. But goals are goals...and you aren't concerned about another person's eating habits

I love this, I'm doing my first cut (I've been bodybuilding for just over year) so slowly tapered myself off a 6 month bulk, the amount of muscle I gained (plus a heck of confidence in myself) was amazing.. I was ridiculously skinny previously and I'm so excited to see the changes in my body and watch the muscle start to pop.. It's a long process but I'm WAY more excited now after hearing you guys discuss and share your experiences :) I really appreciate the support of your channel, as much as my friends and family are there, it's just not the same as connecting with u guys.. THANK YOU times infinity and beyond

Loved this version of chopin' it up ! So many new info were indirectly shared and made me realize that I might have been messing some things up and was not even aware of it !

Around 17-18 mins in I think u guys are referring to becoming more glucose sensitive from being in a more restrictive diet. Carbs get more and more effective as you lower cals and get lean and keep training hard! Keep it up brahsssss

One tool that is great is if you look at your total calories in the week and keep your weigh in on a Sunday if you do this weekly is to take a couple hundred calories away each day but add them to a weekend day on top of what you would eat that day then you got one day outta the week you're eating 4k calories on a cut and everything follows accordingly cause you're still in your deficit

Another thing is if you take your pwo out consistently on the same days on your bulk and go in to a cut as long as you keep the pwo the same dose same day wouldn't worry about the cals from it

I think you get more glucose sensitive further into the cut, as you're being more restrictive on the diet etc... Don't take my words though, I may be wrong

The thing about eating right before bed that gets me is.... your body breaks down fat while you sleep -if it's not full of food. So it depends what your goals are, but if you're cutting, I wouldn't suggest to eat right before bed just because you're hungry. Night time is always the most stressful for me haha especially right after dinner!!

+nick lykins yes you shouldn't worry about that there so much research online about Cals in and calories out.I thought the same way and got leaner just thinking about this way but it might not be the same for you
nick lykins I'm a nutrition student haha I'm not a genius, but know a fair bit. But every body is different.
+laurawashere I wasn't trying to be disrespectful, I used to diet the same way and was miserable. I now do IF and i look and feel the best I ever have.
I've always eaten before bed....and it has never caused hindrances when cutting. I've always lost weight based on calorie intake alone
Dieting with low cals is definietly worse than forcing cals in, for me at least. I hate going to bed hungry!

Quite curious about your methods of cutting (dropping calories week by week). If a woman started on say 2,000 calories and dropped even half of your drop a week (so say 50 calories), they'd end up on super low calories. I know you've built your metabolism and have the calories there to do away with but surely its best to eat as much as possible whilst still losing weight, and a deficit should only be increased due to a plateau - in order to maintain muscle mass and strength?
cutting is for body builders. A lot of people are trying to go with the trend but unless you're trying to be vascular and low body fat extreme measures aren't necessary. you need to make sure energy expenditure is negative. either decrease calories or increase output in the form of activity. if you decrease calories too much you will hit a minimum wall and won't be able to go lower.
Jonathan Northrup Thanks for replying. I'm not so much asking about cutting in general, I'm currently on a cut myself. I'm just asking about Brian's approach as surely by lowering calories every week regardless of speed of weight loss it may be too severe a deficit. Personally I just lowered my macros for the first time for four weeks as I was dropping weight fine for those four weeks - but obviously Brian's methods have always worked for him, hence my curiosity
