It's why in 2010, 2012 many players who would start for their teams were on the bench because they didn't compliment the teams style of play. I fully agree with with how Spain view football.
Many years ago I took part in a football tournament in Spain and while we would always start well and take the lead the Spanish teams would pass us into the ground and smash us. This would of been around 1990
My late father was our coach and was converted. When we came back we played a passing game, practice was all about passing and moving and we were very successful.
English football is gradually changing, fans no longer have a heart attack when players pass the ball from the back instead of launching it, and the blood and thunder long ball game is almost non existent.
We are also slowly coming around to players playing in more than one position.
Spain are the favourites in my view, but England have a good chance too.
Rule number 1: Always respect your opponent

Spain have been the best team of this tournament as of yet. But Italy were pathetic and got played off the park by Switzerland. Croatia are a bunch of old men now who still rely on Modric, who has been around since the 18th century. Those are big names but they aren't great wins. England beat Italy twice in the Qualifiers, and haven't lost to Croatia since 2018. Spain also beat a really out of sorts France team that stunk the whole tournament. They do deserve a lot of credit for beating a dangerous Germany side that had home advantage. In this tournament, beating Swizerland and Netherlands is more difficult than Italy and Croatia.

I don't know why people can't see this? Just because them teams have better histories doesn't mean they are good now! Mbappe was invisible and every team they played were terrible while England had to play teams playing for there life's and gave there all and sat back so no wonder England looked bad. Played against Terry Gibson in a charity match years ago. He was playing on the right and I was brought on at left back with about 15 mins to go because they'd run out of celebrities and John Leslie off Blue Peter hadn't turned up 😂. He started running at me.. turned me one way, then the other and then back again before hitting a shot from 25 yards which bounced off the bar. I was about 23 at the time he would have been about 40ish. I only ever played amateur football although I did play for the schools 11 team in my teens and I was half decent. It gave me an appreciation of how good pro's are.. even retired ones. In your head you think you can compete because you can play a bit but in reality the gap is massive. It's like getting fooled by a magician or something..before you realise what's happening you're f*cked and the ball's in the back of the net.

ditto for me but with squash - I always fancied myself decent player until I got to play some higher standard players (like top of county level) - it was another game then Also cricket I was quite handy but when you see a pro batsman close up and the timing, they can block a ball and it goes for 4 lol.

It's always good to listen to Terry Gibson talking about football, he brings a depth of knowledge that few other "experts" can match. Terry dealt well with your presenter asking dumb questions, such as, "Should his critics apologise to Gareth Southgate?" and continually overhyped the England players and under-appreciated the Spanish team.
Perhaps the next time you get to interview Terry, you get a presenter who can ask sensible questions🤷♂🤷♂🤦♂🤦♂

That’s a big IF so far what we have seen is Foden and Bellingham alternating on good games. Kane is off form or injured. Southgate as usual reluctant to make in game decisions ( actually had a go in the semis where he went with instinct rather than held back his fear and we respect that)
Saka , the defence and Mainoo have been consistent for England ( so happy to see a midfielder who looks to pass forward all the time rather than sideways)
The advantage from England is that the winner can come from anywhere. Whereas if Rodney doesn’t tick this Spain won’t . Yamal vs Luke shaw would be where the game could be won as well as Saka vs Cucurella. If England score first and still in the lead by the 60th minute it would be interesting to see if Southgate can bring Watkins to twist and try and extend the lead or play Kane or play Toney to play safe and try to hold on most likely he will go for the later and in that case we will loose. Similar to four years ago. The secret here is to play at premiership pace and intensity. We know Rodney is shattered so keeping them at that pace might just unlock it for England.
Still worried about Pickford he is a disaster waiting to happen ( so wound up just watch him when the ball comes in on crosses) can’t wait for Trafford to be ready

Declan Saka now Mainoo, the defence and attacking wing backs on point there is no way Spain can keep up. We also have a better squad coming in from the bench
