As a PC gamer that has played VR since the Oculus DK2 I can say this headset is extremely user friendly. Connecting a steering wheel, shifter, psvr2 and then playing Gran Turismo 7 involved no driver installs or any complicated set ups. It only took a few minutes to plug everything in it and then you are in the game playing. It only needs more software.
How's reaching for the shifter? I've been tempted to go VR, but went 32:9 instead. Love me some rally with a handbrake but I'm afraid I'd reach and grab nothing with different virtual car setups.
@@VD-cc4hx - It is quite cheap compared to other VR headsets on the market. It is not only for rich people. I'm not rich and I bought one. This is better than the Valve Index.
The cable is actually replacable. It's just super well hidden. But some people had issues with the display and it turned out the cable was unplugged in the headset. I think it was at the top left side hidden behind the blind folds.
I've been a long time VR user and I have to admit that PSVR2 is the most fun I've had so far. It's just as easy as put it on and start playing, it's comfortable and light, light blockage is excellent, the controllers were worrying me at first but they're actually more ergonomics and comfortable than Meta.
Jay and Nick are gun guys so im sure they all go shoot regularly, they just hide it from the channel but Jay used to talk about guns more way back in the day
Agreed, these are my first games too (plus GT7) and I am very happy I bought Synth Riders, it makes the wait for beat saber easier (and actually in the end I might end up enjoying playing Synth Riders more, I feel like I enjoy he music more in it, I a more IN the music, I don't know how to explain the feeling)
Had PSVR1 with the PS4 and loved to play games like firewall, trueblood, astrobot. With the new PSVR2 the quality is much better, and it was truly an amazing experience for me to try out VR + Wheel + GT7.
Great video! I'm surprised how knowledgeable Phil is about the VR landscape. I'd love to see more VR "episodes" with Phil, maybe reviewing current and upcoming high-end headsets like the Varjo Aero, Pimax Crystal, Bigscreen Beyond, Pimax 12K QLED etc., and some mainstream ones like the Quest 3 and Pico 5. I'm looking forward to this!
I got my PSVR2 yesterday and it's my first VR headset ever. I took me a bit to dial in the "sweet spot" but once I did I was blown away. No motion sickness for me so far and I started with Horizon. I would recommend if you already own a PS5!
PSVR 1 and Quest 2 user here. I love the PSVR 2. It is definitely a game changer and the pros of this headset definitely outweigh the cons. If you have a PS5 and are interested in VR, this is your headset. Biggest drawback right now are game selection but Between Pavlov and GT7 I'm more than entertained for the time being.
Just got my psvr2. You're right, it is a game changer. GT7 in VR is unreal. I also have the quest2. That is fun, but does not compare to the PSVR2. This headset feels next gen
An AR-15 shooting .223/5.56 doesn’t hardly have any recoil. It’s just very, very loud! The gas that is being expelled out of muzzle break has considerable pressure!
I've been really happy with my PSVR2, quite the step up from the PSVR1. Even my gf tried it and enjoyed the experience. The high point for me so far has been the ease of setting it up in different rooms. I have my game room/office, but taking it to the living room and recalibration is quick and painless. I've even been using it to play standard games while on the couch when my gf watches TV. That has been a nice feature as well. The games and quality are what I expected and I really hope it gets the support needed to flourish in the VR space.
Started with a Vive, upgraded to an Index, and I still picked the PSVR2 up because I already had a PS5 and the thought of the head haptics and the same dualsense triggers in games like RE:Village sounded amazing. Was not disappointed.
I’m poor but I’m willing to sell my oculus quest 2 and put the money towards PSVR2. My Oculus 2 is in mint condition and not even a year old yet…My question is this..Should I do this? I’m not rich and can only afford this by selling my Quest 2. I have a PS5 (just got one thru a “get now make payments” plan. Serious opinions only please. I should also note that I’m disabled and can’t play games that use full room scale….although I would certainly try. Thank you 🙏🏻
Dude I just picked one up. I see your concerns but honestly think about this..the headset is going to have a ton of awesome games and when it’s hard to get a PSVR2 you will be kicking yourself for not getting one earlier. 🙏🏻
More reviews from Phil, YAY! Totally enjoy his infectious enthusiasm about everything he has reviewed from the VR today to AMD's GPUs a few months ago.
I’ve been a PlayStation gamer most of my life. Just got the PSVR 2 a bit ago and I love it! The user experience is so simple and great for anyone who is new to VR…. I’m just dying for beat saber now!
@@tzuyd Agreed, I actually am happy beat saber is late, because it made me discover Synth Riders that I never played on PSVR1 (mostly due to the fact that it is not available on the SE Asian stores, so I had to buy it with a spearate US account)
I am actually completely aw struck by psvr2!!! It has reignited the passion for gaming in me!!! I am becoming a pro in pavlov with amazing movement and headshots with 0 motion sickness!! I am progressing steadily in light brigade and Re8 has scared me like a baby!!! And boy oh boy GT7!!!! You guys are in for a treat!!!!
@Sam_ Tx hi Sam. Cinematic mode means non VR games. VR games would be in proper VR. I play FIFA in cinematic non vr gameplay and it actually gives me a competitive edge due to clear vision and easier close control
I hope more controllers in the future adopt the diagonal over the hand tracking ring from the Pico4. That seems like the best combination of good tracking and not getting in the way.
@@CakePrincessCelestia On the Other Hand, Quest Pro controllers cost $300. That is not too far away from a Quest 2 or Pico 4. One of the challenges with VR is keeping costs down. Quest Pro Controllers are definitely a "Pro" product
Being a VR enthusiast,I bought a PS5 just to be able to use the PSVR2 and I love it. You'd have been pleasantly surprised if you'd played GT7 using the standard controller as a wheel using the motion sensors.
unofficial is pretty much impossible. the original PSVR didn't do anything special at all so it wasn't very hard to reverse engineer the display protocol it used. it was basically just a screen alread. this one is a real full on headset. it's unlikely for a community driver to exist. it's more likely that sony releases one if they feel like it. but i wouldn't count on it because they're going to make most of their money on this thing from the game sales.
I wouldn't hold my breath, took years to get PSVR1 working on PC and from what I gather this is even harder. like the first PSVR you could just hook up to a PC as a secondary monitor so they mainly had to hack in the tracking and motion controls and shit. PSVR2 seems to use some kind proprietary Displayport over USB protocol that only works with the PS5. think they would have to write PC drivers for this from scratch and Sony probably uses encryption and shit as well...
Wait, the cable isn't removable? What if you need a longer one? Or your cat chews on it? That is going to be really annoying for alot of people when they break it
As a father of 2 kids and full time job I cant tell you how happy I am making the switch from pcvr to buying a ps5 and ps vr2. I just turn it on an play some awesome games in stead of always tinkering and not being happy with one of the settings (especially in racing games) Must buy for vr enthousiasts who want pc-like graphics and just want a plug and play experience.
I have similar IRL limitations. Loving my psvr2, but my pc/index/quest2 are a 100x easier. I just put them on and hit steamvr button. Psvr2 I need to plug it in, secure the cable, make sure nobody is using or running around ps5, adjust headset 5 times for comfort, put on my headphones, start the ps5, then finally I'm in.
As someone who worked for meta for 6 months and beta tested the quest pro..the psvr2 is a damn game changer and im sure the engineers at meta are scrambling to make a better headset to compete with this headset… i dont have a ps5 but the reviews on the vr headset have made me want to get it badly
My first VR ever, finished Moss 1,playing GT7 every day and just finished Resi Village. Village in VR is out of this world...Boss fights are INSANE in VR!
I love watching Jay but I cherish the Phil take on new hardware. The giddy laugh gets me all the time, it’s the best way he conveys how much fun he’s having. Thanks for the content guys🤘🏻
It'll be up to the software makers to take into consideration the size of the controllers and the loss of tracking when not in view, hopefully they take that into consideration and make adjustments.
I have a PS5 but already way invested in Steam VR. I wish I could use this headset on the PS5 & PC.. or have Steam on PS5, lol. I love that it has OLED screens, haptic feedback in the headset and those controllers looks amazing with the dual sense triggers.
@@eternalbeing3339 Absolutely. The last OLEDs were in the Quest 1 and Samsung Odyssey+, 2x 1440x1600@72Hz (90Hz in case of the Odyssey+). This is a massive jump.
Buddy I am a PCVR Veteran from 2012, Dev kit1, Rift, Valve Index and Quest 2. And there is no way in the world you can compare Quest 2 to PSVR 2 its a way better headset. Between Graphic fidelity to the hapics it is a night and day difference. So if you don't own a high end computer and want to see and play some of the best VR I have ever seen. I would say ditch the quest and for sure don't walk but run and get the PSVR 2. You will not regret it.
I love VR and the one thing I would like is a dedicated PCVR headset but with up to date OLED screens, decent lenses with a tethered approach at the £400 to £500 price point. The Quest 2 is great but I don't use it as a standalone unit. Mobile wireless gaming doesn't interest me. The original Rift had me very excited but the shift to combined headsets has been a bit of a bummer honestly. I know there are good PCVR headsets out there but the price is to high atm. Hopefully the PSVR2 will help bring a similar unit to PC.
I'm really enjoying mine so far, it's a nice upgrade from PSVR1 and blows away my sons Quest 2. I think you nailed the points where it's lacking and where it does well. I would have liked to see you mention the touch tracking of finger placement (you did ask why it kept doing a peace sign) and how easy the single cable setup is bit overall I think you did great!
I got the Oculus Rift when it first became available but the novelty quickly wore off mainly because I had to wear contacts to use it comfortably and it was really early VR tech. Had there been killer games to keep me going, maybe I'd have stuck with it a bit longer. I also agree with the sentiment that an AAA developer game experience is a crucial part of growing the VR market, together with improving the tech and driving down the cost - a chicken and egg scenario. I mean, you can't just rely on VR porn...
I can only recommend to get prescription lenses for a headset. No glasses, no contacts, just put the thing on. Worth every penny. There are quite a few really decent games already if you don't care if they're a few years old by now which doesn't necessarily show anyway.
I had the rift before and wear glasses... What a pain. But know I have a Pico 4 and it's just great with glasses for me! Just takes 1 second to put on and doesn't hit my glasses. What also helps is that I have borderless glasses so better fov. (It also did only cost me 330€) Also standalone/wifi/USB-C makes it much easier to use. Before there was always the setup of plugin in 5 cables or whatever and starting windows/Oculus app...
The novelty wears off really quick. The excitement of a new toy sure feels good but honestly I don’t think they’ve moved the needle very much since the Oculus. Library is still stagnant.
Great job comparing with Quest Pro. I use my Quest Pro for PC SIM and it was a hussle to set up and configure properly. The standalone feature is nice, but image quality is nothing compared to tethered PC connection. Meta needs to learn alot from Sony regards simplicity of the first user experience. But I still like my Quest Pro, the open fit style is perfect for glasses and is great with fitness apps. The pancake lenses are superior and the future in my opinion. No small fitting sweet spot needed and you have edge to edge clarity. Thx Phil!
One of the main reasons i got the psvr2 is it's just plug and play. PCVR just doesn't have that so easily sadly as there's different levels of customization and all that. Starting from the approach of the connection wireless/wired (meta headsets are no longer standalone but stream the data as well) to the settings of the headset itself to the settings of the game itself to the specs of your PC. just so many variables that it's not that easy to control it all compared to the PSVR2 that is just plug and play. Of course, the sacrifice of this is PSVR2 is running on PS5 which is inherently not capable of what a 4090 can produce in terms of visuals.
Rumor has it they are working on a new Ace Combat that will be PSVR 2 compatible. Project wingman is also rumored to be coming to the PSVR 2 and Aces of Thunder will hopefully be coming out soon.
It's not a bad combo to have and how I'm currently rolling. There are PS games that will probably never make it to PC and being able to enjoy those is great. I really like the Dual Sense controller on PS5 too. It took my hands a little bit of getting used to after using XBOX controllers for so long but it has a good battery life and is comfortable and responsive. Overall, I like the PS5.
You can use your Pc to play old gen and retro games. And buy a ps5 to get a true station gaming platform, with no windows and vga drivers problems or virus... Just imagine you coming from your work using windows 10 8 hours a day and you arrives to your home and turn windows on again.. sit on a desk chaIr again for more hours. Ahhhhh 😩😫🤢. Get a ps5 and Go play sitting on your couch and on a big screen then Just relax playing with dualsense on your hands .. no mouse and Keboard... Please... Leave that for work/office and that kind of stuff.
@@bean420man I get it. Being a PS guy most my life, I recently stepped into PC thinking I was stepping away from consoles. Still have PS4 with VR setup.
so, it needs a single external camera, simple usb so the headset can say oh, a ring is gone, check the external and where the missing ring is, compared to the headset so, oh he want to reload or get an arrow from the back. could be a accessory to it, just to get that extra immersion.
HTC Vive upgraded to Wireless (Just wonderful for HL Alyx) Lenovo Mixed Reality (Just for fun) Valve Index (My Go-To Headset for most gaming) PSVR1 (yeah, had some fun games) and since launch the PSVR2. The GT7 experience just blew my mind. Projects Cars with the Index is so much fun, and the GT7 experience is right there, but with way more cars. The haptic Feedback of the Headset is subtle in my opinion, like when you hit the curb, or drive on dirt, combined with the FF of the wheel, it blends right in.
As an Index owner I'm excited to see VR tech progress. I'd jump on a VR upgrade, but only in the PC ecosystem... Not a huge fan of the inside-out tracking either, although the pass-through is pretty cool.
@@icy1007 Also, unless it's controller based inside out tracking, doesn't allow for proper 360 motion, you try putting the controllers behind you or hold them a certain way in front of you and the tracking is lost.
@icy1007 tracking boxes with the valve ecosystem are not really much of an expense in their manufacturing. Sure, they charge a couple hundred for them standalone but thats typical high markup because they can.
@@icy1007 it would nice if they offered to sell it separately to fix some of the tracking issues, you can get it but its going to cost you. However you made the choice to get the more premium PSVR2 experience
I like your view and the fact that you recognize that there is space for more than 1 platform and the progress made on another platform tend to push every others to get better. So as a Playstation owner / PSVR2, I actually hope that the quest 3 and the others will be great, because it will push the competition ie Sont, to do better.
Something that no one ever mentions is the fan and venting system that prevents the lenses from fogging. As someone who lives in a cold climate, this is a godsend, and every headset should have this.
The cable is replaceable. In fact a lot of people don't realize that it's snaps in right above the visor and if that loosens up your headset won't turn on and people think it's broken. You just got to push that back in
It is definitely a bit better than the same design-wise experience in GT Sport we've been having for the last 5 years, even including the same missing in-race data exclusive to VR in both games. Revolutionary? No. But a noticeable upgrade for sure.
Idk, Assetto Corsa is pretty damn good in VR too. Especially with all of the mods available for it and it is an actual Sim racer rather than the arcade-ish feeling of GT7. I do have GT7 but haven't tried it in VR yet.
@@Bystronicman08 I’ve played Assetto Corsa in VR, and you’re right about the mods. The modding community in that game is incredible. It is also definitely a better sim experience. However, I feel GT7 in VR is a better overall game. It has a better “career” mode, better detail on the cars, and it doesn’t depend on mods to improve the game. I also think GT7 being more like a “sim-cade” is a more enjoyable experience.
There is a pancake lens headset with OLED panels coming out for PC soon. It's called the Bigscreen Beyond. It's also the lightest headset ever at only about 180 grams and uses the Index and HTC lighthouses. Downsides are it's $1000, and requires a face map for you as it is not adjustable. The face map also requires an iPhone for the inferred scanning.
A great review Phil, your knowledge of this is amazing. More reviews from Phil please, and a great job from Nick as well. Jay, maybe let these guys do some more reviews, not that anybody wants you to do less.
I just got my PS VR2 and love it. I *do* need to get some prescription lenses for it though because getting my glasses into that sweet spot is not awesome. I also got prescription lenses for my Quest 2 and it made all the difference in the world when it came to comfort.
I got a Quest 2 and it’s actually what got me into PC gaming. I played it and then seen how much better PCVR was so that got me wanting a gaming PC which turned into switching everything to PC. Which led to I should have everything to build my second PC this weekend.
Great video Phil, thanks :) I just got my PSVR2 and it's my first VR headset. Gran Turismo 7 in VR is worth the money alone imo. BUT there has been a lot of BS spoken about how clear the image is and I'd like to see more people manage newbies expectations better, as your review did. For those new to VR: You do not get the clarity in the headset that you do on your tv screen or in the screen caps most streamers use, nothing like it. That said, once you've accepted the technologies limitation and reset "what's normal" (remember, I'm a total VR noob) you can quickly still come to love it. I have a lot of mobility problems due to poor health, and being able to slip the headset on and just be somewhere else entirely is so liberating. I'm seriously considering buying a PCVR headset too now, just so I can experience all of the games that are available - the PS lineup is still pretty poor right now, but I bet they'll catch up fairly fast with the odd exclusive thrown in for good measure.
If you're going to get into PCVR, wait a year or so for decent headsets with eye tracking to come out because those headsets will have far superior specs to current gen headsets (will blow the PSVR2 out of the water in clarity and color) and can use dynamic foveated rendering like the PSVR2 does to reduce compute overhead, giving you higher FPS.
@@thelelanatorlol3978 We're still at least a few years off from that. The eye tracking thing isn't even applicable on all PSVR2 games (only the ones where the devs implement it) so I can't imagine it would be somehow streamlined for PCVR. I did see some promising development being done in that direction though. All in all, I'm probably gonna get the Quest 3 as well but after that it's probably gonna be a while until some next great headset replaces it for PCVR for the same price.
I have many VR headsets and totally agree with Phil's thoughts on the PSVR2. I have the PS5 for the Naughty Dog games and 4k Blu Ray playback. Adding the PSVR2 was a must and quality is better than I expected. Eye tracking and haptics are the stand outs for me, that beat any VR headset on PC. I then use a Pico 4 with Pancake lenses for my PC. Re the Mura this is a known problem for the OLED screens. Apparently turning down the brightness from the system can fix most of this.
I have owned the DK2, CV1, riftS, quest 2, g2, psvr1, the newest pico, and have put many hours in on my buddies index. Finally got the chance to burrow a psvr2 and used it exclusively (or tried to, was tired of only having a few games to play that weren't already available) for 2 weeks. My verdict so far, quest 2 is GREAT for portability, setting up a canopy area in backyard and streaming from pc in the house, and general on the go use, if you're already in the occulus / meta platform with a library of games. But when I went inside and swapped to the cv1 (let alone rift s) after getting used to different screen door effect as it's not stronger or weaker, just different, the color, sharpness, frame timings, FOV, comfortability, and tracking of the cv1 was just flat BETTER than quest 2. And the g2 was even better. And the pico REALLY suprised me. After coming back to it from the psvr2 I did NOT think it would hold up, but I actually could go back and forth between them and enjoyed the pico better. So if you're tethered anyway, and game limitation is considered (psvr very limited on games, and even when you mod things to use it as pcvr many games / settings just don't work well with it) I'd put index as the money is no object winner. For more reasonable price with as much bang for buck you can get, i'd rate it g2, pico, rift s, cv1, THEN quest 2 / psvr1/2 as those really only even matter if you already own or will be buying a ps5 and don't already own or plan to buy a moderate pc. As for psvr2, it comes down to how much are you willing to trust sony to treat this headset differently in the coming years than any other addon hardware they've ever done on LITERALLY any console they've ever made. If you think they will suddenly just fully support this unit even after sales start to drop from initial bursts (something they've never done before, keep in mind) and will keep pushing out vr in their games after sales due to vr decline, especially considering the lack of officially supported pcvr passthrou that will likely never change, and the limited accessories to make it comfortable to YOU personally, I can really only recomend it to people that either already own a ps5, or plan to buy one, IF you don't already own a pc, and don't plan on getting one. And no, you don't need some 4090 beast machine or anything like that. A ryzen 5 5600x with 16gb ram and a 2080 will pretty much max out any of the headsets I've listed here, and can literally be built for little more than the cost of a ps5, sometimes the same with deals. Plus, you know, you're then on a pc not just a gaming console so you can do all the things a pc does. If you ARE going pc vr route, and have not bought your headset and you're looking at the quest 2, I'd strongly urge you to look at the pico. I've seen several content creators gloss over the difference of it's higher FOV, and clearer image due to ditching fernel lenses for pancake style, and I don't get it. You can go from one to the other and it's literally night and day. I can do eye exam test on both, and pico is so much sharper I can stand more than twice as far away and still read the letters clearer than I can in the quest 2 or psvr. Add in the fact that it is also a standalone, as in can take it anywhere, and run wireless on the go or thru pc, and you're just left with the question "Will it's standalone store flesh out it's games list fast enough for you're liking. Remember, that's only for on the go, as at home / near base pc you can play all of it's games, occulus games, and steam vr games with it. And it costs about the same for it's highest storage model than quest 2, and a little less for the lower storage ones. It's lighter. It's controllers DO seem to track better and recover from out of view movements faster, has color passthrou, and a shorter trackrecord of backing their product (thou to be fair quest 2 isn't a meta product, it and almost all the games you can get on it were already done / most finished long before facebook took them over and immediately started backtracking on their previous claims like requiring facebook login ect ect) but a record for doubling down when needed to keep product relevant and improving.,... If you're considering quest 2 for more than ONLY portable use then I'd 100% suggest the pico, and if you're 50/50 portable / pc tethered or wireless, I'd suggest the pico. For ONLY portable / standalone use, for the people that just wanna turn it on, buy games and play, i.e. convenience at the cost of a little performance / fidelity / library options, or already have oculus library of games that's compatible with quest 2 on the go mode, then the quest 2. I (and more than a few content creators on youtube) have built 500 dollar pc's that will run quest 2 or pico at least as well as the ps5 runs the psvr2, and then you look at price difference between headsets, to me was a no brainer. Not worth switching if you already have the other, but if building your vr platform from scratch, the long term benifits of a budget minded pc / pico / quest 2 or even g2 are considerable and upgradable. For people with more scratch to spend, 1500 dollar pc and a g2 (500$)or index (1000$) if you don't want portable is hands down the way to go. If you DO want portable and willing to spend, get the pico and enjoy the benefits of having your cake and eating it too.
And for those suggesting to wait for quest 3 later this year, it's not confirmed yet, we have no official specs on it other than a revised version of the same x2 processor, and is going to cost more. From what I get, significantly more, which is why (along with pico joining the conversation) they went back on the price increase. I personally think if it DOES come out 2023, it will be Q4, and will START out at base models for around 500 bucks.
Surprised the headset slipping off most peoples heads wasn't mentioned. Soon as I got mine I went to see how common a problem that it is and it's surprisingly very common an issue.
I am not a Sony guy, but good on them for making the great hardware seen there. I hope they keep the software end up keeping it going. The price is steep I think (need a PS5 and this for it to function) but for those who own a PS5 already it is not terribly priced.
I think it is not fair to judge it based on the fact that it needs a ps5 to play games. We don't do that to PCVR so why do that with PSVR 2? As far as VR headsets are concerned, it is a bang for the buck.
I'm not into the VR scene yet, but Phil got me into Horizon Zero Dawn by mentioning it on the RTFM show a while back... I'd definitely love to play this game in VR!
you can plug these into pc's btw(just as desktop display atm), virtual link port or buy adapter if gpu dont have. if you look on twitter the news was broken yestaday about it.
0:00 FrickingPhil entered the chat. 0:04 Medduh left the chat. 0:42 Oh, nice. Totally wasn't expecting you to host an episode! Fricken Awesome! 1:31 Матрёшка (matryoshka) Edition :D 1:43 **stuff** 1:45 You know what's actually nice? When you can 69 the controllers. Which you kinda can't with the PSVR2... XD 1:57 It's actually two different levels of cushioning in there... 2:34 I got an CV1 and the cable actually is removable... but you'd still not get it off easily by stepping on it. 2:48 "Accordeon on your face" - love it! XD 3:17 I still think in overall shape and feel the CV1 controllers are still the best. It's so easy to just park them somewhere without having to worry about anything as those tracking rings are perfect stands at the same time and since I also have the CV1/Rift F ones, the Quest 2 ones as well as the Pros and the WMR Gen2 from the Reverb G2, I can say the CV1 definitely are the most robust ones simply by judging how they feel and look. And you almost never collide the tracking rings which kinda happens ever other day with the Quest style controllers. Not a problem with the Pros though, but those are hard to park properly if you need a free hand for a moment, and you can't just hold one with the other hand for the time being. 4:05 That's actually a great idea! 6:55 How awesome is that? ^^ 9:53 Sounds solid... less crashing into furniture XD 10:33 Imagine having that on a HOTAS for DCS... let alone FFB on the stick itself. Still running my legal aged Sidewinder FFB2 because of that. 11:02 Any BONEWORKS/-LAB player knows this issue too well of not experienced through Lighthouse or a CV1... but luckily, the Pro controllers finally exist :) 11:40 **sMaCk** 12:33 \m/ 12:54 LOL! 13:04 Wai'. Wha'? 13:15 ROFL XD 13:28 Wasn't even aware it's on PSVR1 ^^ 14:51 BTW there's prescription lenses already available from VR Rock and probably others as well :) (eye tracking still works with those!) 17:03 "Call the Mountain" _~FrickingPhil, 2023_ 17:37 I've only heard great things about GT7 with people litterally binging it like a full time job... 20:14 Absolutely! :)
Very cool, I just finished playing zero dawn on my new pc, and I am sure the next game being played here will be on the pc at some point. As for VR, I have the set for the ps4, and doing action scenes of climbing and things like that tend to give me motion sickness…..
I did not experience those issues with PAVLOV. I don’t like the controls that are available. In RE8 they allow you to use touch to grab and release with no press and hold or toggle.
I am currently a PS4 gamer (and PC enthusiast so the crossover is real Phil!!!!!) and I have the 1st gen PS VR (that does not support HDR pass though to the TV). I had a lot of fun with it, but TBH have it disconnected now and have not used it in a while. The setup/connectivity with the breakout box and the camera and having to use the Wand controllers isn't ideal - for me. This V2 set with the ring controllers looks like a game changer to me and this may be my trigger to move to PS5. (I delayed moving from PS3 to PS4 until the games I wanted weren't available on PS3 anymore and my thinking for PS4 to PS5 has been the same. If this V2 headset doesn't run on PS4, or the games that it goes best with will struggle on PS4, then this may be my birthday present all sorted now!!!!) Thanks Phil, Great job sir.
IDK about "All that AAA stuff," the only thing that is AAA and not available on a PC headset is the Call of the mountain, and RE7 VR with vr controller support, though it can be injected for a VR viewpoint on PC...
The reloading seems realistic. You're not going keep looking straight ahead when you grab a clip or magazine. Even if you're doing it fast you're going to look. Not sure why that's a complaint when that's a feature that should be a norm. Still, I like this VR setup. Too bad it's not for PC. Would be great to fly some helicopters with in MSF 2020!
you should be, keeps your awareness up. bringing the mag up into your workspace at eye level is better than looking down and taking your eyes and gun out of the fight. but regardless of super opr8r tacticool seal team 69 tactics, tracking occlusion is just a fact of life with an inside-out tracking system unless you also give the controllers their own tracking systems like the QPro. it also makes the controllers like $300, so…there’s the tradeoff lmao
@@frickingphil That's not the point though. It's not about the technical aspects as it is just being realistic. One clip you may know where it is. The second clip you might need to glance. Especially if you're moving around. Regardless, it was just a weird complaint.
@@LokiDWolf Pavlov (and pretty much every VR shooter I’ve played) spawns your fresh mags in your mag pouch at a fixed location on your belt. It’s a valid complaint because the tracking system inherently has blind spots and depending on your body geometry and which direction you happen to be looking at the time, your controller may not have tracked its location to the mag pouch (even if you moved it to the same place IRL) because of loss of tracking. when occluded, controllers have to do dead reckoning by using only IMU data to try and extrapolate their position without any camera tracking data (which the system uses as ground truth for the controller pose) IMU data is severely noisy and positional errors are cumulative, so most VR controllers for inside-out tracked systems will only dead reckon for about a second or two and just fix their positions in space until camera tracking has been re-established. if you don’t manage to get the controller to the mag pouch in that time, the game won’t put a mag in your hand when you grab. this is why outside-in tracking (lighthouses) will always be more solid than inside-out, because occlusion and loss of tracking is much less of an issue on those tracking systems
Thankyou for sharing your experience.
I’ve never given a sh*t about VR headsets but this looks dank.
@@ryanjofre yeah same boat
How's reaching for the shifter? I've been tempted to go VR, but went 32:9 instead. Love me some rally with a handbrake but I'm afraid I'd reach and grab nothing with different virtual car setups.
no psvr 1 games. its only for rich people. if you want real games, you buy a quest and you can link it to your pc or go full price with valve index.
Yes you're right, both Sony and i-fix-it did a teardown the cable is replaceable.
It technically is replaceable, but there's a lot of disassembly to swap out the cable. It's not clear if Sony will make the cable available either.
I've been a long time VR user and I have to admit that PSVR2 is the most fun I've had so far.
It's just as easy as put it on and start playing, it's comfortable and light, light blockage is excellent, the controllers were worrying me at first but they're actually more ergonomics and comfortable than Meta.
I love my PSVR2 and I agree about the controllers
I agree on the engineering and ergonomic. SONY actually thought this through. But I had to return mine because the resolution is still too low.
@FUD Buddy They recently did a couple updates that has really cleared things up. You probably should have held on to it for a minute longer.....
I'm more impressed by Phil's knowledge of trigger break, charge handle charging, and quick mag reloads than the set itself.
wasn't sure if anyone else had noticed. He also has some trigger discipline lol (almost looks habitual)
IRL oddjob.
Harder to hit, hits hard.
Well if you’ve shot guns before it’s pretty normal.
Phil needs to be in front of the camera more.
Jay and Nick are gun guys so im sure they all go shoot regularly, they just hide it from the channel but Jay used to talk about guns more way back in the day

The PSVR 2 is my first VR headset and I'm in love with it! Pavlov, Pistol Whip and Synth Riders are a blast.
Thanks for the recommendations. Looking to get mine here pretty soon too.
there was a fun eye tracking one of an old sony game. check that one out, idk what its called.

It is real shamed you cannot use it with pc, we need sometime for a hack to happen. Then I might sell my index for it

Agreed!

A .300 blackout ar-15 has some recoil.
I have a ps5 and pc but never got into vr. Looking to pick this up soon as my first vr experience.
Go buy a steering wheel or even a racing chair setup. It justifies investing in VR 😁
The cable is detachable - you just need to open the rear part of the headband and there is a plug that can be unplugged.
I’ve been a PlayStation gamer most of my life. Just got the PSVR 2 a bit ago and I love it! The user experience is so simple and great for anyone who is new to VR…. I’m just dying for beat saber now!
While you're waiting, Synth Riders is a damn good time.

I am progressing steadily in light brigade and Re8 has scared me like a baby!!! And boy oh boy GT7!!!! You guys are in for a treat!!!!
Do you play any non vr games on cinematic mode ?
@Sam_ Tx hi Sam. Cinematic mode means non VR games. VR games would be in proper VR. I play FIFA in cinematic non vr gameplay and it actually gives me a competitive edge due to clear vision and easier close control
I hope more controllers in the future adopt the diagonal over the hand tracking ring from the Pico4. That seems like the best combination of good tracking and not getting in the way.
That's really one innovative way to do it, but I guess in the long term the Quest Pro approach will win. Not having tracking rings at all slaps.
@@CakePrincessCelestia On the Other Hand, Quest Pro controllers cost $300. That is not too far away from a Quest 2 or Pico 4. One of the challenges with VR is keeping costs down. Quest Pro Controllers are definitely a "Pro" product
I got one... GT7 in VR is amazing. There is no going back.
Phil’s “Oh whoops” moment when he ignored the NPC wanting to be pulled out of the water was a genuine lol moment from me 😂😂😂
As someone who has a PS5, the PSVR2 is excellent, just hope it get's PC support as that feels like the smart thing to do.
Being a VR enthusiast,I bought a PS5 just to be able to use the PSVR2 and I love it. You'd have been pleasantly surprised if you'd played GT7 using the standard controller as a wheel using the motion sensors.
The selling point for me is if it will be possible to do unofficial PC support like was done with the original PSVR
Or even better, an official PC support.
Real
unofficial is pretty much impossible. the original PSVR didn't do anything special at all so it wasn't very hard to reverse engineer the display protocol it used. it was basically just a screen alread.
this one is a real full on headset. it's unlikely for a community driver to exist. it's more likely that sony releases one if they feel like it. but i wouldn't count on it because they're going to make most of their money on this thing from the game sales.
That's already confirmed as a hard no
I wouldn't hold my breath, took years to get PSVR1 working on PC and from what I gather this is even harder.
like the first PSVR you could just hook up to a PC as a secondary monitor so they mainly had to hack in the tracking and motion controls and shit.
PSVR2 seems to use some kind proprietary Displayport over USB protocol that only works with the PS5. think they would have to write PC drivers for this from scratch and Sony probably uses encryption and shit as well...
This is great! I hope you guys cover more VR stuff in the future.
Wait, the cable isn't removable? What if you need a longer one? Or your cat chews on it? That is going to be really annoying for alot of people when they break it
Yep, I got a PS VR2 on day-1. Love it. Horizon, GT7, No Man's Sky, Resident Evil 8. Love each of them.
Can't wait to see what is to come.
As a father of 2 kids and full time job I cant tell you how happy I am making the switch from pcvr to buying a ps5 and ps vr2. I just turn it on an play some awesome games in stead of always tinkering and not being happy with one of the settings (especially in racing games)
Must buy for vr enthousiasts who want pc-like graphics and just want a plug and play experience.
Honestly the ony thing holding it back are the fresnel lenses which sucks ass

It'll be up to the software makers to take into consideration the size of the controllers and the loss of tracking when not in view, hopefully they take that into consideration and make adjustments.
Hearing his excitement makes me get excited about getting mine.
Gran Turismo 7 in VR is a game-changer for VR sim racing, as it really brings it to the masses.
I have a PS5 but already way invested in Steam VR. I wish I could use this headset on the PS5 & PC.. or have Steam on PS5, lol. I love that it has OLED screens, haptic feedback in the headset and those controllers looks amazing with the dual sense triggers.
4k 120hz hdr oled. The only one on the market that i know of.
The VR market moved away from OLED for a few good reasons and Sony apparently didn't get the memo. If you want an OLED PCVR headset wait 5 years.
You don't have to look down to reload, you just have to grab a bit further back and not exactly on your hip.
It's tethered and worse tethered to Sony. It blows away your sons Quest 2 but will be on par with his wire free Quest 3 in 4 months.

PSVR2 is the plug and play experience VR needed.
Surprised nobody's really trying No Man's Sky VR. Could use it as a benchmark for VR since it's on PC, PSVR1 and PSVR2.
It lacks the quality of a benchmark game such as Doom: Eternal. That game looks, runs, and sounds great on everything.
Are the controllers compatible with the old headset?
(It also did only cost me 330€)
Also standalone/wifi/USB-C makes it much easier to use. Before there was always the setup of plugin in 5 cables or whatever and starting windows/Oculus app...
The novelty wears off really quick. The excitement of a new toy sure feels good but honestly I don’t think they’ve moved the needle very much since the Oculus. Library is still stagnant.
I have no issue with reload in Pavlov. I can be shooting then press O to drop the mag & grab another all without taking my eyes off the sight.
You need to try it with GT7, it is a game changer
How’s it compare to the quest pro
Great content again Phil, You come across as knowledgeable and trustworthy, its actually pleasant to watch your good honest reviews, thanks very much.
Phil is great!
He deserves more screen time, not gonna lie!
He always seem so happy and a fun person, it's a joy to watch him do stuff.

It’s money shot. I got it day 1 and couldn’t be more happy with it.😊
Until modern VR headsets have OLED's PS VR2 will always win
You should try Gran Turismo 7 with the PSVR2, now I want Ace Combat with PSVR2, that would be a dream
Rumor has it they are working on a new Ace Combat that will be PSVR 2 compatible. Project wingman is also rumored to be coming to the PSVR 2 and Aces of Thunder will hopefully be coming out soon.
I just built my first PC at 44. Am I going to need a PS5 too?
You must try Gran Turismo 7 with PSVR2 before you die

The HDR display not mentioned in this video adds a lot to the immersion in GT7 as well.
YAY! Moar Phil for the channel! Always great to see him in front of the camera instead of behind. Great video Phil and good to see you!
As an Index owner I'm excited to see VR tech progress. I'd jump on a VR upgrade, but only in the PC ecosystem... Not a huge fan of the inside-out tracking either, although the pass-through is pretty cool.
inside-out tracking removes the need for external tracking boxes/devices. Makes setup much easier and reduces the price.

You just got to push that back in
PSVR2+Wheel/Pedals+GT7=Best VR racing experience. It’s such a game changer. Give it a try, it’s so worth it.
Yet you still have no HDR, no OLED blacks and colours, eye tracking nor adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.
Can you please make a video of maximum and minimum requirements for a PC VR set-up? I have not seen any PC specialists give recommendations.
Or you could wait a year or so after that, and so on and so on..
I would never buy this for my PS5, but if it came with official Sony support for PC I'd buy it instantly.
Exactly what i said. Sony has no games.
PSVR2 KING OF VR.
Try cinematic mode
Love you Phil and Nick, thanks for the fun content ^-^
Surprised the headset slipping off most peoples heads wasn't mentioned. Soon as I got mine I went to see how common a problem that it is and it's surprisingly very common an issue.
Phil you’re goated for this video, I WANT MORE VR CONTENT WITH YOU TALKING SPECS AND REVIEWING FBT SOLUTIONS
they should add move controller support, if you have a camera connected. new headset, old controllers, position from the new headset
@@yomamasohot6411 correct me if I am wrong. There are headsets that do not require a pc correct?
@@TheLinkhawkins are you referring to Quest 2?
@@yomamasohot6411 possibly, I'm not entirely sure.
@@TheLinkhawkins I'm not sure if you genuinely don't know or just pulling my leg🤔
Great job Phil!
one of the best reviews ive watched in a long time. great video team
I have a quest 2 and use it wired. Using it wirelessly for PC vr there isn't enough bandwidth for great visuals.
Loved that narration on the intro :D
Such a Jay move with the shoulder shrug!
Been a while Jay! PSVR2 looks amazing but boy does it COST.
I'm not into the VR scene yet, but Phil got me into Horizon Zero Dawn by mentioning it on the RTFM show a while back... I'd definitely love to play this game in VR!
absolutely loving my psvr2
you can plug these into pc's btw(just as desktop display atm), virtual link port or buy adapter if gpu dont have. if you look on twitter the news was broken yestaday about it.

0:42 Oh, nice. Totally wasn't expecting you to host an episode! Fricken Awesome!
1:31 Матрёшка (matryoshka) Edition :D
1:43 **stuff**
1:45 You know what's actually nice? When you can 69 the controllers. Which you kinda can't with the PSVR2... XD
1:57 It's actually two different levels of cushioning in there...
2:34 I got an CV1 and the cable actually is removable... but you'd still not get it off easily by stepping on it.
2:48 "Accordeon on your face" - love it! XD
3:17 I still think in overall shape and feel the CV1 controllers are still the best.
9:53 Sounds solid... less crashing into furniture XD
10:33 Imagine having that on a HOTAS for DCS... let alone FFB on the stick itself. Still running my legal aged Sidewinder FFB2 because of that.
11:02 Any BONEWORKS/-LAB player knows this issue too well of not experienced through Lighthouse or a CV1... but luckily, the Pro controllers finally exist :)

12:54 LOL!
13:04 Wai'. Wha'?
13:15 ROFL XD
13:28 Wasn't even aware it's on PSVR1 ^^
14:51 BTW there's prescription lenses already available from VR Rock and probably others as well :) (eye tracking still works with those!)
17:03 "Call the Mountain" _~FrickingPhil, 2023_
17:37 I've only heard great things about GT7 with people litterally binging it like a full time job...
20:14 Absolutely! :)
This isn't a $500 vr headset though since you need the console as well.
I got it. It just def needs more games. And Beat Saver needs to be added asap. Lol
Very cool, I just finished playing zero dawn on my new pc, and I am sure the next game being played here will be on the pc at some point. As for VR, I have the set for the ps4, and doing action scenes of climbing and things like that tend to give me motion sickness…..
Really enjoyed the change of pace, good stuff!
I did not experience those issues with PAVLOV. I don’t like the controls that are available. In RE8 they allow you to use touch to grab and release with no press and hold or toggle.
Thinking of getting PSVR2 to experience GT7. Anyone have any thoughts?
Its amazing! I am sure you will enjoy it
I am currently a PS4 gamer (and PC enthusiast so the crossover is real Phil!!!!!) and I have the 1st gen PS VR (that does not support HDR pass though to the TV).
I'd bet that cable has the weird green goop inside to keep it pliable.
Now the official PC adapter is out, you think you guys can do follow up with it?
It’s a valid complaint because the tracking system inherently has blind spots and depending on your body geometry and which direction you happen to be looking at the time, your controller may not have tracked its location to the mag pouch (even if you moved it to the same place IRL) because of loss of tracking.
when occluded, controllers have to do dead reckoning by using only IMU data to try and extrapolate their position without any camera tracking data (which the system uses as ground truth for the controller pose)
IMU data is severely noisy and positional errors are cumulative, so most VR controllers for inside-out tracked systems will only dead reckon for about a second or two and just fix their positions in space until camera tracking has been re-established.
if you don’t manage to get the controller to the mag pouch in that time, the game won’t put a mag in your hand when you grab.
this is why outside-in tracking (lighthouses) will always be more solid than inside-out, because occlusion and loss of tracking is much less of an issue on those tracking systems
