Chris Stuckmann reviews Ouija: Origin of Evil, starring Elizabeth Reaser, Annalise Basso, Lulu Wilson, Henry Thomas, Doug Jones, Parker Mack, Sam Anderson, Kate Siegel. Directed by Mike Flanagan.
Who else thought this movie would be awful? Guess I was wrong
Ben Wasserman so true bro. the trailer looked like ass
Ben Wasserman So I guess you are again, not feeling like a hero😉😉😝😝
Jagannath Barman ......look white phosphorus!
😂😂😂😂😂
Well it was directed by the guy who did oculus and hush which were pretty good compared with most horror movies these days not done by james wan or first time indie directors
"What this movie does to scare you is so unique and made me happy"
- Chris Stuckmann 2016
triplehood what is the point of this comment
Made me SO happy*
I think he found it ironic that he felt so happy that he felt scared in the movie, but I don't know.
thanks, didnt hear it the first time
Dishoungh White
yeah, exactly :) It just struck me as funny/ironic that being scared made him happy.
From 7% in the first movie to 91% in this sequel in Rotten Tomatoes.... HOW DO YOU DO THAT?! XD
you give it to a competent director
lowserver2 True
the director felt that ouija boards deserved a good horror movie...and wanted to make a standalone film. so they gave him the gig and we got this masterpiece
You actually put in effort
It was so good
They should make a horror movie called 'Jump Scare' and there's no jump-scares lol
Knock on that idea, I'm writing a screenplay.
Jorge Lizarraga where can I audition as a main character ?
Ask me in 20 years.
Jorge Lizarraga great that gives me plenty of times to prepare
Jim James that would actually be a really great idea, to an extent. As long as it keeps you engaged in it, it would creat almost perpetual dread, which is arguably more scary and a better scare than a cheap jump scare
From F to A. What are the odds
From D+ to an A
nobody exploded thats why it sucked xD
zero to hero?
The first movie did not get an F.
Mike Flanagan is the difference. He’s been batting .1000, as far as I’m concerned. Love everything he’s done.
Bruh was anyone else shook when they saw that A? Other critics were saying this movie sucks but Stuckmann is my #1, so I trust him over anyone else.
King of Wakanda BRUH you're literally everywhere 😂
tamzgaming IGN have it s 6
In Stuckmann, we trust.
IGN is unreliable.
David 1 Ha! Ign? The guys who discriminated Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire for "having too much water."
Looking this up in 2020 because every horror film / series I've loved recently is by Mike Flanagan. The man understands horror.
James Wann is good too
Rotten Tomatoes Critics:
Ouija: 7%
Ouija 2: 91%
*O_o mindfucked*
Nexus258 i guess Hasbro movies are saved before a Pony movie arrives
Makes me wonder what's the biggest critical difference between original movie and sequel. Can't be many movies with such an improvement rate.
Well, if we're talking about sequels that got worse I think we have tons of candidates. :)
I was thinking about sequels that improved on the original. Those aren't that common. However, the second *Purge* movie and my personal favorite, *Wrong Turn 2* were both clearly superior to the original imo.
dflowers30 I know right?
The writer of BATMAN & ROBIN became an oscar winning screenwriter with A BEAUTIFUL MIND. There's another mindfuck.
"what are we, some kind of Ouija origin of evil "
underrated
Corbin Henderson oh man that was actually pretty funny hahah 😂😂😂
Corbin Henderson say again?
lmaoooo
Corbin Henderson they're requesting a call sign... Ouija umm.. Ouija the origin of evil
An "A"?!?!?!? For fucking Ouija 2?!?!?
S H O O K O____O
have you even see it? or is it just a trend to hate a movie cuz of its name?
Did you see the trailer? It looks fucking awful
RayatoTV not really the trailer looked good
yeah i know, but don't judge a movie based on its trailer and chris himself said he was surprised how good it was cuz he iddn't expect it, i trust chris' reviews
it actually has 91% in Rotten Tomatoes
Sees thumbnail
Goes to F Movies on Chris's Channel
Doesn't see it
Thinks D or D-
Sees finally grade
Goes to google and searches up ouija origin of evil tickets
Tanman C you really rely quite a bit on his opinion.
Connor Webb it was a joke lol
Tanman C same bro
To be fair i skipped watching this review because i assumed it was another generic horror movie, given the terribly unoriginal name and subject, and im not big on those. I'm surprised by the grade and will give it a try at some point in the future.
Please tell me this is the beginning of the end for cheap jump scare movies.
If only but we still have a far way to go
Not with the FNAF movie coming out the in the next couple years lol
I feel FNAF wouldn't have 'cheap' jumpacares. But you never know until you watch a review.
That too, I guess.
+Jorge Lizarraga The game relies heavily on cheap jumpscares. The movie will obviously use them
Guys, guys! You know what this means right? This isn't just a great sequel to a shit horror film just because it was so shit that it was good (in the Wickerman, The Room and Vampire's Kiss sense). This is a great sequel to a shit horror film because it was legitimately a great horror movie in it's own right!
I-I-I... I don't even understand anything anymore. Next your going to tell me that Justice League will beat Infinity War at the box office...
could be possible but I doubt
Jack Healy I think people won't watch Justice league at the theaters. They will probably wait for the extended blue-ray version to be released a few months after.
DC has lost their credibility to me.
Jack Healy Oh how I wish Justice League will beat Infinity War... Damn, getting lame comparisons even on horror films review videos now!
You mean prequel right
David Brown Yeah, sorry.
I am so shocked, the advertisements are so bad and Chris liked it. wow
guess I was proven wrong. huh
schradester8 It's got a 91% on rotten tomatoes
Yeah, the ads make it look terrible, but I'm still not going to go see it because I hate horror movies.
Horror movie ads in a nutshell
Because ads show the whole movie.
wow i thought this was gonna be a pice of crap color me surprised
Hoodie Weather me too
which colour is surprised again?
Magenta...yeah I know go figure
Nice clickbait he did
Hoodie Weather
*colour
Mike Flanagan is a very underrated director. I feel he should get the fame he deserves
He still is
This is a really good year for horror films. This might be the next trend after people are getting sick of superhero movies.
bimapringgo Would be cool if war movies was trending a year.
I wish they made more animated comic book films.
Jkop go see batman the return of the caped crusaders in theaters rn. You will thank me
Agreed. Great year for horror.
This is a good year for horror but horror movies are always trending. They make a shit ton of money compared to what they actually cost to produce.
Lol when you get the ad for the movie before the review 😂
Ye same
Same
Oh crap me too
Me too. We all gonna die?
lmao that happened to me too
I admire, more than you might appreciate, how Chris Stuckman is able to find something negative about movies that he really likes. That shows balance, and it shows integrity in the analysis; viewers can trust that Stuckman's positive reviews are genuine. He does the same (opposite(???)) thing in his negative reviews: he finds something positive. That shows class and the other two characteristics: balance and integrity.
That's tegridy for ya.
Wait.. WHAT? This is actually good?
The Evil Bassist yes, it is
yup
The ending was bad
The first movie was so shit that its shitty sequel fell off the scale and became a high rated movie.
it underflowed
But then why was the trailer such absolute SHIT??
Would you rather it be like The Conjuring trailer, were its a good trailer but it gave away all of the scariest moments in the movie.
WHy are you basing your opinion of a movie on their trailers?
Tristan Ludwig bc that's what trailers are for
the trailer for flanagans other movie oculus doesn't look that great either but that was still fantastic
Generic Actor if the trailer looks bad then why would you watch it to see if it's actually bad?
Thanks Chris, now I know what it sounds like when you say my name out loud!
I got so many chills while watching this movie. It's been a very looooooong time since I've been genuinely scared because of a movie.
That part with Doris whispering in Lina's ear got me fucked up.
At least red dead redemption 2 is coming
Caffeine Red Squirrel I fucking know right?! Getting hyped for the trailer tomorrow!
Caffeine Red Squirrel That's the only sequel I care about. Not this Ouija movie.
This was a great sequel. Wtf are you guys on about? As if this was a bad movie.
Dr. Dick Pound I said that I cared more about Red Dead Redemption 2 than a second Ouija movie. I haven't seen it, so I'm not saying it's a bad movie. Haven't seen the first either. I simply don't care. And that's allowed.
XRJ92 So what was the point of watching this particular review?
When Chris started talking about old change of reels I was praying for the Fight Club reference, awesome
probably one of the most shocking things of the year: Ouija 2 is actually good
"Not only is it one of the worst films of 2014, it's one of the worst films of that year period" - Chris Stuckman, 2016
Some Guy one of the worst horror films and then he said one of the worst films
You know what this means? This is Hasbro's first good movie since the 1st Transformers.
Jack Brechtel That's what I meant. Best live action toy movie which is quite a surprise.
+Titan HighlightsHD The first one wasn't bad. The others definitely are.
Sure, The Rise of Cobra and Dark of the Moon weren't anything to write home about but goddammit, they were fun. And when you consider the other stuff released by Hasbro, I can pretty much take that and call it a win.
*You mean ever.
U mean the cartoon movie?
According to the shots from the movie in the video there is some Brian De Palma split focus stuff.
Denis Shamray saw that. I love that technique
Denis Shamray I saw those in the trailer and that's what really intrigued me about the movie. It made it seem like the movie was gonna be very well crafted
i watched dressed to kill for the first time today and i thought the split focus shots were kinda cool
Media Hell have you seen RAISING CAIN I recommend it very good thriller from De Palma with lots of the good stuff he does in it
i have not but i really enjoyed dressed to kill quit a bit ill check it out, thanks for the recommendation!
This year has being amazingly generous when it comes to good suspense/horror movies:
The Witch
The Conjuring 2
Don't Breathe
Lights Out
Hush
Cloverfield Lane
The Boy
The Purge 3... Just kidding.
the boy was good?
Carlos Arias Lights out was kinda cheesy
Bazooka Penguinz It was pretty scary tho
Carlos Arias I didn't see the last 3 but love the ones I saw
Purge election year was good. Way better then the boy in my opinion
That reaction! XD
Ouija sucked, and Micheal Bay was involved with that film. This one was great, and Micheal Bay wasn't involved in this film. Coincidence? I THINK NOT
Actually, he's still the producer.
Man of Butts Actually he was dumbass
+Austin Bitikofer There's no reason to be so rude :/
Noah Sosa Everyone on the internet is rude. I'm probably the nicest guy on here, but if someone's being an idiot I'm going to call them out on it... *shrug* Especially when they're mindlessly hating on a person.
+Austin Bitikofer I guess you're right.
I thought it was carp. You read that right I thought it was a fish.
Leo Saucedo What was wrong with this movie??
@@thefirstbourne149 read that again.
Ugh, fish jokes ... on your pike! :-Þ~
Get over yourself, it was Magicarp
So, there's still hope for Dragonball Evolution 2
RamiFive4Five this is actually one of the most underrated comments I’ve ever seen
No there is not.
Yupp as long as mike flanagan deals with it duhh
No
No. Never again. I will slaughter anyone alongside their families if they EVEN DARE TO CONSIDER THINKING OF MAYBE EVEN F*CKING try it. :D
I would have had more respect for this movie If it didn't give me 100 adds for it with no damn skip button!
+Ryan Abuelhawa 😂😂
"Ouija doesn't make you blow your load too early." -- Chris Stuckmann
I can see the posters now.
Dame I was really expect him to shit on this, geuss I'll give it a try.
And my other response is hollyshit platinum dunes made a good movie???? Not since 2003 have they made a good movie
Pretty sure this is mostly Blumhouse and Hasbro
+Young Pup X it's a joint venture with all three companies, but this is mostly platinum dunes baby. I saw it last night, I was very suprised, a sequel that is far superior to its predecessor in more ways than one.
No. You are not hallucinating. It's not April Fools and you did not mishear the video.
The only problem for me with this movie is the rule #3. The rule #3 says *"ALWAYS SAY GOODBYE"* but they always don't.
Well that's unexpected...I was preparing for another "Stuckmann angrily reviews a shitty horror movie"
I don't know I still have mixed feelings on this one. The tone and setting seemed great in the trailer, but the scares don't look too compelling.
This has been a shockingly great year for horror films! And the years before were filled with such horror schlock (The Gallows, Sinister 2, The Ghost Dimension, Devil's Due).
I watched it, it wasn't all that scary. It was was there were three demons possessing her when I was terrified but that was about it.
When *
Damn I just realized I watched both Oculus & Hush because of Chris
Saaameee
Thank you Mike Flanagan!
Excellent review!
Just finished watching this movie, and must agree with all of the points you made.
Oh snap I thought the cigarette burns were just a mistake in my cinema screen, dang that's cool.
The trailer looks so horrible tho
Mr jaegerbombastic irrelevant on the quality of the movie
Sometimes trailers to certain movies look horrible, yet I found the movie very good, and vice versa. Like for example, I didn't think the trailers for the movie Storks didn't look very good, but I was pleasantly entertained by the actual thing.
Mr jaegerbombastic it does look so bad but I keep hearing good things
its not as good as he says it is
@@saucymemes7109 it is
Ouija 2 is good?! NO ONE was expecting that.
Ok I was going to completely disregard this movie, based on the first one. Thanks Chris, I'll be sure to watch it.
Chris, I listened to you and went to give this movie a chance (I thought the trailer was boring) but I still hated it. The movie was not scary. It startled the audience with loud noises and predictable jump scares, but it didn't scare me even one bit with the imagery. Even the story didn't make a lot of sense and I came out of the theatre feeling utterly disappointed.
I watched the movie before watching this and and im shocked this shit movie is getting good reviews! WTF
Yeah I watched it pretty much based on Chris' review and left disappointed. It was just ok. I'd give it a C. It was an ok time waster but I doubt I'd ever re-watch it.
Margaret H I don't take his reviews seriously, this was plying in background for some reason. I don't buy his reviews after hearing him talk about xmen, then seeing it and thinking wtf.
why did I just waste two hours sitting through this. hoping it would have some deeper depth which was insinuated :(
for good reviews check out focuslens. she is highly astute and provides a great review
It's fine if you didn't like it but all the things you said were wrong. The movie didn't utilize many jump scares. And the story made perfect sense. It's fine if you didn't think it was scary but it's a well made film
Jake Boos Oh? I totally saw quite a bit of jump scares. The story didn't make sense to me. Now just to name a few.......SPOILER ALERT!!!!
.....
Please explain what is the point of the spirit writing down his upsetting story but when the priest actually offered to help, it killed him off...for reasons. The boyfriend had no purpose in the story except for to be killed off early for the jump scare. Roger's spirit told Lina to sew Doris' mouth to stop the voices and she did...so why there were still spirits possessing Lina, prompting her to kill Alice? And why was Doris' body still possessed in the end if the mouth was already sewn up? I don't deny the cinematography or the acting was well done, but there were plot holes.
Why does Chris keep calling it 'Weejee'? Shouldn't it be pronounced 'Weeja'?
Abhi Rao he's pronouncing it correctly
just because everyone pronounces it that way doesn't mean its the correct way. Never in the english speaking language did the letter "A" get pronounced as "E"
I've always heard it pronounced as 'Weeja'
GoddessGothicLolita it's not an English word, genius
Wow you guys in the US pronounce it differently then? Interesting!
Another good thing is that i dont have to see these goddamn adds once it comes out
On yo feet maggot But other adds.
You have to imagine that Mike Flanagan is really great to work with given how he just collects actors who keep coming back for his projects. Both the adult and child actors in his projects show up multiple times, and one can only assume this trend will continue in Midnight Mass and his future works.
2016 seems to be a good year for horror.
So is 2020. But irl
I'm utterly shocked.
But hey.. in Stuckmann we trust
I'm a simple man, i see Fight Club, i like
This is one of the most criminally underrated horror films I've ever seen.
Hey Chris, I think you should make like an A and A- playlist so they can get the spotlight they deserve for being good films. Plus it'll help me categorise the good film reviews that I want to binge!😂
I was convinced this movie was gonna blow.
I might have to check it out now, looks spooky.
Why People say weedjee if there's an "A" in the end? It should be pronounced weedja, right?
Vitor Emanuel Oliveira Smoke weedja everyday.
thats just how its pronounced
I find KingOf HobosXIII answer more satisfying XD
It's supposed to be a strange combination of French and German orthographies; French "oui" /wee/ and German "ja" /ya/ both meaning yes. However, apparently its a trademark, so it can be pronounced whatever the rights holder wants it to be.
Mike Flanagan went on to achieve greater heights as years went by, pumping out one after the other excellent horror genre productions. He is a class act
mike flannagan is reremaking the haunting in a tv series. he makes me look forward to it. i hope it lives up to the original from 63
Stereo typical possessed little girls, stereo typical background shots, stereo typical movie where everyone dies at the end
There's a spoiler btw
Great, now I have to watch Fight Club again.
Wait What? am i transported to an alternate dimension where a sequel to a movie like Ouija is actually not only good but could also be in the top 10 movies of the YEAR!!
Chris is lucky, his wife gives him a blowjod every time he takes her to see a good movie.
She does the same for me too.
nice all i have is my right hand red tube
You know, I'm glad that this movie is good. It makes me feel a little less cynical about horror movies. I haven't seen it yet myself, but the fact that chris gave it a good review is a good sign to me.
Great video Chris, I was honestly expecting a Super F rating for this movie haha
NotBizzy Thankfully this movie was good, so it actually....I’m sorry, this is just hilarious. This movie is so much better, and actually to the point of being a great film, that’s meant to be connected to an awful film for some reason.
Chris: This is one of the best horror sequels of all time
The thumbnail says otherwise
I noticed the cigarette burn too at least in one scene, and I was like "Whaa?" because everything is digital now and I was so surprised to see that put into the movie.. I'm kinda surprised but really happy that you liked this movie Chris Stuckmann. I thought it was really good too.
Damn Chris...nice jacket
best genre of 2016 horror wtf how is this possible
Sounds something like the early Silent Hill games. Basically no jump scares, just quiet, slow burning, and eventually so creepy that it's terrifying. The type of psychological horror that will give you ptsd.
This is the reason I'm excited Mike Flanagan is involved in the I Know What You Did Last Summer remake
When I first saw the trailer for this movie it looked horrible, generic and cliche, and just another cheesy cash grab. But I went and saw it today and I agree with Chris, for the most part. It's so creepy and frightening with its tension. There's maybe 1 or 2 fake jump scares but other than that the scares are EARNED through the silence and tension. I actually got chills during one scene and even started to get a headache from certain parts because the tension was so high, I highly recommend this movie for you guys. It's not perfect or amazing but it surprised me and for the horror aspect I'd say it's on par with conjuring (if you believe those are scary as well).
Lucky Most of horror movie is like that. You get chills and maybe get a headache. It will seem scary and frightening too, but when you start watching different horror movies, this movie is nothing unique and the jumpscares wasnt that good.
Can I watch only the sequel? Would I get lost during the movie?
I didn't watch the first one but it seems it's not needed to understand this one.
Georgia Vieira its a prequel so no its not necessary
Jose V right, prequel hahaha thanks
Most of the time you still need to watch the first one before the prequel
Yes watch the original. It sucks but youll understand this one better if you do
Fun fact: Henry Thomas, the actor playing the school priest, also played Elliot from E.T. when he was a kid.
I think that Mike Flanagan should make a sequel disregarding the first one
I thought it would be a mess of a movie
Btw
INB4 KINGG OF WAKANDA

I'm so happy this got an A. I finally watched it last night and was shocked at how much I loved it. Great characters, many moments that creeped me out, and the entire third act was genuinely scary. My only complaint is that you can only see a movie for the first time once, and I'm going to have to wait 6-12 months to forget it so I can watch it again.
I saw the circles in the corner and I had no idea what it meant thanks for the review.
ouija boards out for Harambe!
I'm so surprised! Looking forward to seeing it now.
Weird that you mention Henry Thomas. I hadn't thought of him or heard anything about him in years and years. Then literally last night I watched E.T. for the first time in 20+ years, and the very next day here he is in a new movie!
Anyone else notice a homage to The Exorcist, when the preacher first visits the house? That shit was dope. Along with the fact the film took a 180 in the direction I thought it was about to go in the last act. Fucking amazing.
It has a 89% on rotten. Surprised. Looked dumb and it's a sequel.
wow totally disagree with this review, thought it was crap and didn't scare me at all..
sebwrafter Agree with you. It was better than the previous one but not a memorable one.
wow I absolutely LOVE your reviews!! Seriously. You break down what you felt works or doesn't without giving away spoilers. And you clearly know the craft of filmmaking -- you KNOW the technical aspects of what you're talking about (rather than a simple everyman like/dislike reaction). And you treat the movies fairly. Going to see a sequel to a movie you hated is not something most people look forward to -- so thanks!
Once Chris said that they use the retro Universal logo and a frame jump, I was sold. I like movies that break the mold, and let's face it, setting a movie in the 1960's is pure eye candy, from the cars to the girls.
The ads for this movie are cancer.
I know you are not going to see this comment but if you do. Can you please review moonlight?
I totally noticed the "cigarette burns" throughout the whole movie. I was explaining what it was to my uncle while watching this movie at the drive ins.
So basically Conjuring 2. All of these little touches were done earlier in Conjuring 2. Including the story involving possessed children (granted it's a common trope). Even the scares sound like Conjuring 2 (like when Bill appears out of focus).
good now can we STOP seeing ads for this
I don't have adblock on my phone so I saw those shitty fucking commercials all the time. They convinced me that movie would suck ironically. Glad to see that I was wrong
well i always thought highly of the movie though
Does this tie into the first one at all or can I skip it?
Lost Utopia Films prequel I think
Snoipeh You agree? I also saw the movie... Im now an internet ghost!
Lost Utopia Films There are connections, but you don't have to have seen the first one.
william timonen you actually went through with it? Wow... I only had the noose on my neck but then I remembered that I have so much to live for, like shrek, the love of my life
Snoipeh
I didnt hink of Shrek... Im haunting Uwe Boll thou. Which is pretty funny.
I love how fair your reviews are. Thanks for not jumping on the “everything has to be negative” bandwagon
My jaw dropped when I saw the final grade. Now I MUST watch it.
