- Many of you are probably familiar with Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple. But you may not be familiar with how he got there. After all, Steve Jobs was the most iconic businessperson during his tenure at Apple. With the ability to create blockbuster products like the iMac, iPod, and iPhone, and build multi-billion dollar companies like Apple and Pixar. He was often described as being an innovator, visionary, and genius. With such a high level of charisma that he could distort reality and convince anyone to do exactly what he wanted. So, why then, did someone like Tim Cook become his successor? At first glance, Cook was the complete opposite of Jobs. Quiet and reserved, with a background in operations and data analysis instead of products. And prior to becoming CEO, he wasn’t really one of the star players in Apple’s executive lineup. That title usually went to Jonathan Ive or Phil Schiller, who were often featured in Apple’s keynotes and promotional videos. So how did he end up taking the top spot at Apple, by becoming the company’s CEO? Well, that’s exactly what I’m going to explain in this video.

People always say Steve Jobs is the thing that make Apple big and famous. They totally forgot about the talented humans behind Steve
Being able to identify them and harness their potential is what made him great.

I used to live in Silicon Valley, Apple worked their employees with crazy long hours back then. And everyone talked bad about Jobs and had stories about his weirdness. After he died every meetup praised him for this and that and it was so funny, I used to photograph a lot of meetups in the Bay Area and they always mention Jobs, it is crazy and they still do it now.
And you forgot to mention the smarter Steve who was the reason Apple succeeded in beginning
No they didn’t. Anyone who understood Jobs understood his admiration for the titans he was leading.

Big difference is that Jobs and Sculley were not on the same page about a lot of things. Cook respects the hell out of Jobs and we all know it. Yeah, he does a lot of things differently than how Steve ran things, but it’s still bringing Apple a lot of success, especially in the business aspect.

I believed that without Steve Jobs, Apple would never be the same.
10 years and $2 trillion valuation later, Apple is not the same. It’s incredible.
Most people say jobs was much better than cook but I differ, and see a balance of differences between them. Jobs was a visionary, he sought to find new products and new designs that people may find attractive. However jobs has made many failed products as well because the technology wasn’t good enough for his wants. Tim Cook definitely was better in this category. Cook kept the same design of the iPhone from 6 to the iPhone 8, though it was annoying, it helped the company succeed and they didn’t get ahead of themselves, allowing for innovation for when they are ready and not only will it be new, it will be well tested and perfected under Tim Cook. I think cook may have overall been a better CEO and Apple would be struggling if cook was not present.
Apple has certainly been successful, but Tim Cook is no Steve Jobs.

True, but even when Jobs WAS alive (when he was fired) Apple went off the rails a bit after Jobs was fired by Sculley and the board. To an extent, I don't think the company ever really recovered from that point on, not even when Jobs returned to the company later. Because by the time JObs returned, there was much more competition and some of Job's style of doing businesses was not feasible anymore, and like most big companies of the time, had to work within the increased competition. Indeed Apple (and Microsoft and many others) are going to be (and often are) considered one of the greatest companies of all time, along with others like Standard Oil and others.

I think that without him Apple wouldn't have survived after Steve's death.
Apple is less about 1 person and more about Steve's philosophy in creating insanely great products that look great and work delightfully in every way.
@@640A Very true, but let’s not forget, Steve picked Tim to succeed him, and in my honest opinion, Tim has done a great job continuing Steve’s philosophy and engraving it in how they run Apple.

Cook is a really underrated leader. His pure grit to lead is second to none.
Tim’s decision of leaving a successful company for a sinking one reminds me of myself making a similar decision at my job. Hopefully the success story is the same.

One of the best decisions Steve ever made. The company has exploded in sales and market cap since the transition. Tim knows how to run a company
100%. It's so dumb when people talk smack on Tim without knowing anything. They see Tim and say "he's so much worse than Steve Jobs" when Tim wasn't supposed to replace Steve, he was supposed to be the next leader of Apple to take it to greater heights. Now, Apple has reached such great lengths thanks to Cook's direction. Steve knew exactly what he was doing when he put Tim in charge, and it shows.

@@bullymaguire6388 Yeah, he's done great. It's just that people are expecting Tim to "create the next iphone". People want Apple to create another world changing and culture defining product when that just isn't gonna happen. I love Jony Ive, but if he became CEO, then Jony probably would've tried to take Apple down that path of pursuit to a new "world changing product" which probably would've led to multiple product failures and the downfall of Apple. Steve knew that and put Tim in charge, because he knew Tim's values were the best for the future and longevity of Apple. I love Steve Jobs a ton, but it's absolutely dumb how people seem to trash Cook.

I think once the iPhone came out, Steve had realized that Apple had done their part in majorly changing the world with a product. I feel like that's why he didn't try creating any more new insane future defining products, but rather just kept expanding upon what they had created and innovating in the industry to refine it all. Hence him bringing in Tim Cook because he was the guy who would keep Apple alive to continue refining and innovating instead of bringing it back to that "world changing product" chasing stage with someone like Jony Ive. It wouldn’t surprise me if Steve left some sort of roadmap to follow a decade after his passing. He knew he was ill long before his death.

Yeah but it ain’t this easy. Life is full of unexpected things. New markets that didn’t exist before and such. New competition that Jobs could’ve of imagined.
I believe it was for Tim to not do what Steve did but what Tim thinks is the best way forward.

One thing is clear and that is that even though Jobs was a great leader, his vision wasn't exactly what Cook's is. Apple has been doing great the last decade, business wise because Job's vision was innovation mostly but Cook's vision is more profit oriented. As a matter of fact, Apple has made more money under Cook's leadership than ever before.

And we as customers benefit from Job’s intuition even though he’s not around anymore but I still thinking of him every day. Steve jobs was one of the best CEO's of any company and he has done wonders for Apple but I also have to give credit to Tim Cook as he got Apple to where it is today, 10 years after Job's passing.
'Just in time' manufacturing has revolutionized the production and logistics chain, and technically, although there is no one to one replacement for Jobs, Cook brought the most value to Apple taking it from a $350 billion company to a $2 Trillion company

We all know no one can touch Jobs when it comes to vision and innovation, but Cook has put Apple in a great position and he has done a great job at succeeding Steve as CEO. We shall not forget products like the Apple Watch, AirPods, iPad Pro came under Cook’s leadership.

I think Tim Apple is overhated. People try to compare him with Steve Jobs and say that Apple has stopped innovativing under him which is not true. When Steve picked him, he specifically said to not think what Steve would do.

This story of how Tim Cook came to work for Apple the the sinking ship at that time took guts. His friends and family probably made fun of him and said he was crazy to leave his present jobs. Remind me of a advice I receive 20 year ago, when you are buying stock invest in the person who is running the company and not the company name or products.
