There are so many magnificent line deliveries here, but my favorite has to be "SOOOOOOOOOOO, THIS IS THE GREAT JOURNEY OF LIFE!!", if only because I have _no goddamn idea_ what the actual hell it means.
Nimons are Nomads/Horde. They go into one place, plunder of all rescources (including inhabitans of said planets, for some reason) and then pick next planet. This is their great journey of life. Soldeed had no idea what it is. Soldeed in this episode understood that Nimon lied to him and used him, but I'm not sure what Soldeed means by saying it here, probably guessed it sounds melodramatic enough to use it
"My dreams ... of CONQUEST!" is still a part of my mental soundtrack. Any time things go wrong with some plan of mine, there's ol' Soldeed overacting in my head.
I can't get the line "the Nimon spoke of many things...he spoke about the Great Journey of Life..." out of my head. That man was such a gem at playing crazy despotic theocrat.
I love the Horns of Nimon and Graham Crowden is one of the key reasons... Yes, unhinged, OTT, but totally chews up the scene... and those quotes, "You meddlesome hussy!" I want a keychain full of Graham Crowden quotes just to play them throughout the day. "Three... I have seen THREE!!!" When you're having a bad day, you just want to say, "So... this is the great journey of life!"

I still don't see how people can talk about this scene and not even mention the scene where the Doctor pins a "first prize" rosette on K-9. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at DW. Also, props to Lalla and Gipps-Kent in this for not laughing out loud in this. You have to imagine that this took multiple takes to even retain some credibility.

The Horns of Nimon is absolutely ridiculous, hammy acting and absurd - which is what makes it brilliant! Graham Crowden and Malcolm Terris deliver panto-esque performances in such a superb way. “THE NIMON BE PRAISED!”😂
Well Crowden was a very fine actor and I love Soldeed, it is an awesome turn. "Nimon" was a bit panto so it got the baddie it deserved. Crowden would have made a great Doctor but possibly a better Master.

I've seen Graham Crowden in other things and he's actually very good. he's wildly overacting in this - he thought it was a rehearsal take, the production was chaotic, etc. - but I'm glad he overdid it. it's more fun this way.
How amusing it would have been for Stephanie Cole to walk about and tell him he was being an imbecile. Granted, "Waiting for God" was 10 years later, but it would still have been hilarious.

Crowden was a brilliant actor and did not make one gesture out of place in Horns of Nimon despite critics. End of the day, he was a "milder" villain, more a cretin than an intelligent threat. As such, he entertained and watching him you see the element of humour that was part of Doctor Who at the time. In like manner to Tom Baker, he has a unique voice; distinguishing and iconic.
Shada was going to be the 6 part conclusion but there was a strike. Remeber the order the viewer see them was not the order they were produced. For instance Earthshock was done after Time Flight

For example, both had the towering stature (at least 6'3'') which worked well for them, then they both had a very distinctive voice with even more distinguishing articulation. Of course, nobody will ever know the Doctor that Crowden might have been but I believe he was excellent throughout Horns of Nimon; the acting is good because it potrays the Soldeed for exactly what he is, a dimwit. Still stupid enough to believe in the "Nimon" after seeing three!
The novelization states he was a second rate lab tech when the Nimon killed all the scientists. That's why that one scene showed him unable to figure out a piece of machinery in his "laboratory".

Which is actually "back to the roots" for the Doctor! I mean, in the, erm, good old days, he used to do nothing while Barbara and Ian saved the day. Future Lady President Romana is easily worth two human teachers (no offense, Chestertons).
I know he's supposed to be a different character, but whenever I see Graham Crowden as Soldeed, I think he's Tom Ballard from Waiting for God engaging in one of his adorable senile fantasy roles again. If you compare Crowden's scenes in this with his scenes from Waiting for God, Tom and Soldeed are almost exactly alike. I can already imagine Diana Trent walking in, and exclaiming: "Good God, Tom. Are you pretending to be an alien lord from the future again? You know that's bad for your heart."
Someone please give Lalla an award for keeping a straight face during this scene.
