    I love cleaning and treating my jackets and trousers. I use the Nikwax TX Direct spray and they always look amazing and 'just like new' when they are done - especially the 'marmalade' ones. Thank you for the video.

    Thanks for sorting out the volume of the background music. Made it quite difficult to follow what Ben was saying during the layering section.

    Is that Mammut Taiss really twice as breathable as the gore-tex jacket? If so, I might have to look into one - I tend to run hot and sweat easily, so breathability's really important to me

      That’s what I was thinking too!

      The DryTechnology Pro membrane in the Taiss Pro is very breathable, it also has a softer handle compared to many Gore-Tex Jackets. It's always worth taking the provided figures with a pinch of salt as the other material choices and your layering will also play a part in just how breathable a jacket is.
      There are multiple different testing methods for determining MVTR, so without independent testing it can be a little tricky to directly compare membranes from different manufacturers, but purely looking at the provided numbers, the Mammut has the edge in breathability.

    Whatever happened to Arcteryx? You guys used to demo their product all the time. Too expensive? No stock? No dealer margin? Or the big brand taking them over has diluted the quality options?

      @markharwood Helly Hansen, also.

      We're still fans of Arc'teryx here at Trekitt, they make some great kit, but for the foreseeable we are exploring options with our other brands and maybe a few new ones soon...

      I'm pretty sure Arcteryx were/are trying to move to a direct to consumer sales approach, which might make it more difficult or less palatable for retailers to stock their kit.

    You mention HH and MVTR in passing but fail to mention how important these ratings are when choosing a waterproof. A ‘waterproof’ jacket with a low HH rating that nevertheless will provide protection in a shower on a twenty minute walk round the park is going to be a major disappointment and could even be dangerous if worn on a full day in the mountains, with rucksack in heavy rain. Therefore HH value should be the key factor when choosing a jacket. That said Gore-tex don’t do HH ratings but will provide adequate waterproofing and breathability in most circumstances, at least when new. Note though that Gore-Tex Infinium is only water resistant.
