Finding that table is one of those moments that you'll be celebrating for years. 🎉
Great router table, Barry!!! I enjoyed watching the video.
Thank you so much
My only advice If you are going to put casters under your router table, make sure all four of those wheels LOCK in place.
I doubled checked these casters. Great suggestion. Thank you
Great Job Barry, I'm happy to follow along with your new router table journey. I'm sure you're excited!!! Cheers :)
I must disagree with you. Restoring and repairing old furniture IS woodworking - a very difficult and specific branch of the discipline, but woodworking, nonetheless. You do great work.
As a professional, I use tools which can stand up to the daily wear and tear of being lugged around job sites and still deliver the results I need. Things like torque wrenches and drivers, PPE (electrician), I buy the best of the best.
Things which no longer are built to a quality standard, so it doesn't matter - I buy what works with my shop's batteries. It's one of my largest tool overheads, those dratted batteries.
I am so grateful for this great feedback. Thank you
I love to watch people work with their hands, fixing, creating, rejigging! Everything you said sounds totally honest to someone who just watches. But I do use furniture, that was designed, crafted and made for purpose. I suppose I’m “the end user”! Keep sharing your knowledge to those who can benefit from it. I’m not fond of people who don’t share their helpful hints with others. It’s downright selfish! 🛠❤ saw
Hey Barry, just a comment on using the router, you would have been better off doing multiple shallow passes when cutting out the router lift hole rather than doing a full depth cut. Same thing when cutting out the t-track slots. Otherwise good work, it will a handy tool to have.
That is so neat you found the perfect cupboard for your router. Interesting video,Barry.
I couldn’t believe the timing
It was fate that you found that cupboard at the right time, but you deserve luck, Barry, you have a great heart.
I really appreciate this
Get it! having the versatility to do more on projects is a must, not only for the furniture but for content that you need to produce. if someone wants to sponsor you with tools to do that, so be it.
I personally use alot of older craftsman woodorking tools. bandsaw, belt sander, tablesaw. alot of the older things work the exact same as the newer ones, just a little heavier and less safety features, but not everyone can afford to go get the newest of every tool.
I love this
Nice find with that table, it’s almost like it was built to be a router table lol!
Exactly! I showed the receipts to prove I found it at just the right time
I can't wait to see what wonderful projects you make with this ❤
I’m excited
This is awesome Barry and that cabinet was an a brilliant find! 🤩👏🤩👏
Thank you
You're a brave man. Routers scare the crap out of me. Good luck with yours.
I’m still scared
Barry, Bourbon Moth has a great router table video, so does Tamar at 3x3 Woodworking. Steve with Woodworking for Mere Mortals has terrific cabinet build videos.
I watch all of the creators
What about a rack on the inside of the doors for your router bits? Something similar to the racks a mechanic would use for the sockets for a socket wrench set could work, and the bits would have easier and faster access when needed.
You really lucked out on that cabinet. Yes, they used very utilitarian wood and hardware, but it looks well made and sturdy. I can’t wait to see the modifications you will make to customize this to your needs.
I have to agree with the suggestion that you install locking wheels. You’re very conscientious about safety, and I would think that the locks to keep the table steady would make it easier to use.
I love this. I did think about storage on the inside for the bits. Great suggestions! Thank you
Wow, Barry. I’m a woodworker and haven’t built anything like this. Very impressive.
I think this will be awesome! This will last for many, many years for you. I bought a cast iron tavble from China, but i now hawe the problem that this type of adjustable holdingplates does not fit and i can't cut in it... Not a big deal, but something to concider if one want to upgrade to a steeltable and want to use this type of routers (as my plan was...), it is hard to find affordable fixtureplates that fit cheap cast iron tables...
I appreciate you sharing this
@@MadCityModern I will!
What a dream router table. Well done.
I’m so lucky
None! I have no setup and it's frustrating. I feel like wood working is my "last frontier" and I can imagine doing it well into my dotage. I have a few very basic pieces of equipment, but I have a 4 year old who keeps getting more expensive every year. (Grateful!) so it's good to know there are quality, low cost tools out there. Maybe a fleshed out workshop isn't out of reach. Thank you Barry, very informative and helpful information.
When you're learning a new skill, it's probably a good idea to start with tools/equipment that don't break the bank. You might decide to continue, in which case you can upgrade. You might also decide that you don't have the requisite talent/patience or whatever to continue trying to learn the new skill. In that case, you didn't blow a small fortune in the beginning on tools/equipment that you won't be using. It's all about baby steps. 😊
This is such a great comment. Thank you
No suggestion, or advice as I don't have a router, let alone a guide or a cabinet...but what I do have is a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS on the addition to your workshop. Can't wait to see what you do next.
Ideally you’d have a dust collection box around the router below the table, otherwise the cabinet slowly fills up with sawdust.
Cutting that deep into the 3/4” ply top weakens it. I’d have added a new 3/4” top over the whole existing top.
One item you need to get is a more powerful router. I feel you need minimum 2-1/4hp for a stationary router in a table. Yes your current lift won’t fit unless there is an adapter. But you will soon realize a palm router is not powerful enough for standard router work, as I am sure you found out when making this video. I personally use a 3-1/4hp router in my table and have 2-1/4hp for everyday use. I use trim router for very small and simple tasks like 1/8” round over or small chamfer.
Ey, we all deserve such a lucky find now and again, whatever our projects may be. ^^
Barry, my only suggestion is to make a dust collection box around your router. If don’t then all you’ll have a huge dust collector unsuitable for storage.
Would you kindly tell me what measurements of the router plate are (in inches please) l x w x d
Not a chance. I'll wait for the 12 month update.
No idea what it is but I enjoyed watching it get put together. I hope we do get updates, just to see how it is holding up.
Have no idea what you do with this tool. :) So glad they sent you some tools . You do great work.
Barry, looks like a well made piece of equipment. Will be looking forward to your impressions as you work with it. As for the quality of the work installing the insert, don’t sell yourself short, you do good work.
I really appreciate that
👍👍👍
Cool video
Thank you
Your welcome
Great table find.
That is so cool you found that table cabinet unit for $10! Sure look forward to seeing how you use these new toys on restoring furniture 🇺🇸👍🏼
Thank you for all the things you have sent my way Jodi
@@MadCityModern 🥰 I’m a thrifter and sell small items in a vintage consignment store. It’s funny that when I find things I think…would Barry like this or could Barry use this 😂😬
Thank you for the awesome tool review and I too am in need of building a router table. Cant wait to see your final set up. Sometimes fate plays a part of our lives and it present us with stuff we truly need. Thank you again!...
How exciting! I’m beyond thrilled for you!!
