08:03 Low visibility approach and Autoland, 34R
A montage of a few of my landings on the A330 with different perspectives; good and poor visibility, inside and outside the cockpit.
(Cockpit footage was unobtrusively taken by a supernumerary).
The first is a visual approach over Botany Bay in calm early morning conditions (after an overnight New Zealand freighter run during Covid restrictions - hence the mothballed aircraft lined up on the crossing runway seen after landing).
The next approach is to the same runway, viewed from the Control Tower (more recently, after the long night from Tokyo, Haneda). This footage is taken from a RUclips livestream by some local aviation enthusiasts, "SydSquad" who happened to be broadcasting that morning.
In both of these, the conditions readily permitted a manually flown, visual approach.
In the third approach (from Tokyo, Narita), I had to do an autoland, as the visibility was too limiting to permit a manual landing (not that common in Sydney). The runway lights appear through the fog only shortly before crossing the runway threshold.
