The Equus was a great deal new, and is a great deal used. People tend to get snobby with a Lexus badge and charge double the value, but not with a Hyundai!
Absolutely beautiful luxury saloon. I prefer hard plastics on commonly used knobs and switches as they endure better long term. Outside the States, the rear trunk doesn't have the Hyundai badging but rather the EQUUS Pegasus badging 🎉 Ravi Peiris M.D.
Acura's problem is that they will never make a V8 or a Rear wheel drive car... They're so caught up in trying to be economical that their cars suffer by loosing its luxury and premium feel... And the Hyundai Equus can compete with the LS460 but definitely not with the S Class...
@heroheroic That's the same thing people said in the past when Toyota started Lexus, or Honda started Acura. Look where Lexus and Acura is. They are now high class. Hyundai will even be greater.
@Intechdude300 just reading your comment shows your ignrance. sonata has one of the highest resale values in the segment for the second year. the sonata retains 62% of its resale value in the second year. you must have never ben in a sonata or fusion. the fusion is a nice car but the intrior defntaly has hard areas..like the doors, the area around the left side of the steering wheel.other areas like backseat and around the armrest. the sonata has soft touch all over. only place glove compartment
"Driving Excitement" is completely irrelevant to those of us who are considering this car. What we DO care about is SAFETY. Will it be as safe as Mercedes? Safer, maybe, than Lexus? We were hoping Korea would make a car like this, because we would prefer to buy from Koreans, whom we hold in high esteem. (we bought Scandinavian cars, as long as those were available). But we want to know whether Equus will offer acceptable levels of SAFETY and DURABILITY.
i think this guy is wrong when i first saw this on the road i was at a block party and before it started someone got dropped off in a equus and everybody looked at it even people who owned a mercedes and bmw people were taken drives in it and sat in it this car makes itself known
I would have had this car but my dad sold this because the suspension was messed up so he sold it and bought me a 2019 sonota. I would have had a V8 but now I have a cheap 2.4 L but oh well.
That is one poorly-designed front end. Silver just doesnt work on this car, it brings out way too many flaws in the design. Need to go with black. Aside from the exterior styling, im actually mildly-impressed by this car and its vast array of features.
This car is currently sold for $4,000 to $10,000 as a used car in Korea. It is mainly a car that older people can comfortably ride, or a car that young people buy cheaply, tune up, and drive recklessly.
Brakes on this car are ugly. I have one EQUUS 5.0 Royal 2014. I installed a BRANNOR 360 mm, and after 2000 km it overheated. Global problems with brakes on Genesis cars.
@Intechdude300 The 2010 Hyundai Sonata? We are talking about the 2011 Hyundai Sonata, the 6th generation of Sonata's, not the 2006-2010, 5th generation of the Hyundai Sonata. You clearly to don't understand your own knowledge of cars.
$60000 for a car that has a bunch of ugly plastic inside? This car is such a copycat of everything else around the market.. I mean, the dashboard is pure lexus, seat adjustment - mercedes, back of the car - a wide version of the previous BMW 5 series.. You could keep going on and on with that. So for that kind of money, why buy a copycat when you could buy the real thing instead? And i'm not even going to mention the quality of build...
Garbage vehicle. So unreliable it's not even funny. On the Equus forums & FB pages, you find owners regretting ever purchasing this lemon when their air suspensions fail with vehicles that barely have 75k miles on them, and their repair bill averages $1500.00 PER WHEEL for ORIGINAL Hyundai air suspension parts (not talking about the cheap Chinese ones that break down even faster but that most people buy because they can't afford the original parts). Then you have the issue of the Pre-Collision and other safety systems not working. Again, on Equus forums & FB pages you have owners complaining how their Equus didn't warn them of an impending crash, didn't take evasive maneuvers as Hyundai says it will, and even air bags that didn't deploy. Aside from those serious issues that could kill you..you have seats that hurt your back after 10 minutes of sitting. Cheap and fake looking leather, wood applique, and plastic controls. And a ride that felt nervous and jittery..instead of smooth and luxurious as advertised. Save your money and buy something that is really luxurious and not this POS. It's no wonder Hyundai killed it. Korean junk at it's finest. Too bad some people have no idea what real luxury is so they think this POS is "quality"..lol. A sucker really is born every minute. 🙄
@nightbird. Every thing created has good and bad reviews. The real concern is the overall percent of good vs bad reviews. For example: you may love yo model cell phone and company, but there will be some others who hate it and the experience. I’ve seen sites give it a 4.5 out of 5 review based on 1000+ reviews.
Had my 2014 Equus 5.0 for 4 years now love it still.
John Davis is a legend.
Show some respect.
The Equus was a great deal new, and is a great deal used. People tend to get snobby with a Lexus badge and charge double the value, but not with a Hyundai!
Hyundai has come a long way form there designs but this car looks really nice good job Hyundai

Awesome video, pretty cool looking car!! Love all the wood trim. Thank you motor week
How about a snow and ice video? Let's see that electric stability control in action on that Hyundai equus
been watching this guy since about 8 yrs old, how about you all?
I’ve watched Motorweek since I was 4. m a r y l a n d p o w e r
Hyundai has been making the Equus for many years, they just didn't export it.
Hyundai LX450 1999, A Lexus LS400 copy with Mitsubishi V8 & fwd
SANYUR 1999-2008 Equus is based on Mitsubishi Praudia.
Mitsubishi Praudia falls part at about 80K miles, just like a Hyundai use to be.
well.. current Equus is independently made by hyundai and does not have such problem
Acura's problem is that they will never make a V8 or a Rear wheel drive car... They're so caught up in trying to be economical that their cars suffer by loosing its luxury and premium feel... And the Hyundai Equus can compete with the LS460 but definitely not with the S Class...

Wow I love this car.
6.1 o-60 with the 4.6l, so I'm guessing the 5.0l should get you around 5.7 o-60 or so??
Why couldn't Ford or GM make a large car like this?

premature ending?
Why Mercedes or BMW?
It's the Avalon killa
i think this guy is wrong when i first saw this on the road i was at a block party and before it started someone got dropped off in a equus and everybody looked at it even people who owned a mercedes and bmw people were taken drives in it and sat in it this car makes itself known
Sorry, but his opinion on the styling is far off... Personally I think it is a much more aggressively styled car than the, Lexus...
I still have yet to see one of these on the road.
I saw one.
I have 2013 with the 5.0, I love that d**n car, just have to keep an eye on the oil level because it does use it
That's how you review a car, not the British dude with an overgrown hair
Bland? Nah, you must be thinking of the LS.
3:10 "All seats fold"???
John Davis the Host should've been on Three's Company the T.V. Show wearing Plad .
I like this guy.
Yeah that should not have used any Hyundai badges on this sedan. Nice entry by Hyundai though.
Sadly, Acura is now just a premium brand.
A lot of car for the money.
I would have had this car but my dad sold this because the suspension was messed up so he sold it and bought me a 2019 sonota. I would have had a V8 but now I have a cheap 2.4 L but oh well.
Im the 400th like of this post.
the 2009-present Hyundai Equus is assembled in
Ulsan, South Korea
Airshocks always go bad on the rear
If you can afford a $70,000 car. You should not have a problem replacing shocks.
why does this show still look like it was made in the 80s?

i wish i had vented seats ... cool my butt lol
0-60 in 6.1 sex? With 385 HP? Shit my 98 lexus gs400 with 300HP and 4.0 liter V8 does it in 5.7 sex.
@EDM420Live woooo
Someone goofed the editing.
yeah um cutting ht review short was dumb
WTF? Where's the rest of the review?
The equus seems like a want to be Mercedes benz..
me to
@southkoreaeatsdogs Hyundai is better now because Lquuuuuuus

You wanna see a better review,go to c-net channel!
Have seen just a few on the road. Nice car, but in person in looks a little cheesy to me.
the front end looks like my stupid cat, with the eyes pointed outward in different directions
Haha luxury Hyundai; seem like an oxymoron!!
I think Hyundai should be working on their truck and SUV dept. This car is a little too much for Hyundai right now.
This is a great car...it looks good drives good comes with standard everything but who ever pays $6000 plus for this is a idoit....
just pointing out a on going problem with this car as a mechanic....
wtf
Interior looks sooo cheap!!! Shame Hyundai, but at least they are trying to compete in this class, unlike any domestic brand to date
Somehow this car still gives me cheap.....and large luxury sedans have to have the right badge, like BMW, Mercedes, and Audi.
count on MotorWeek for boring cars and more boring reviews

this car cant come close to the big three german cars
this guy is too mediocre
