I can't believe it's been over 30 years since this has happened. I remembered the murders like it was yesterday. My first year at UF. Steve Spurrier's first year as coach, there was lots of excitement in the air. Then all of a sudden, my room mate told me there's been a couple murders, a possible serial killer on the loose. Classes were cancelled, students huddled together in dorms and apartments. Parents came to campus to pick up their kids to go home. The police zeroed in on Edward Humphrey, the guy that was acting strange on campus. Wow, those were dark times in Gainesville.
I remember when I had to walk 15 miles uphill both ways to get to the school house.
Bs u was never there
Not to Mention Colorado Buffaloes, and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets' CO-National Championship season as well.
Yea Danny was a real POS. Unfortunately, he was from my hometown. His dad was a big time cop here back in the day. IIRC, Danny killed some people here, also. A family of three. Maybe more. He also tried to shoot & kill his dad once. Shot him in the face and the stomach but his dad survived. He was a real POS. Supposedly was abused as a child, etc...
Who else went straight to the commets
You did :)
Me lol
I remember this so well. This is when I started double and triple checking locks on doors and windows. We were terrified.
It’s like a slasher movie in real life .. horrifying
That’s what Scream is based on
@@tamzidrahman2673 I was about to say that
Scream is literally based on this
Scream is literally based on this
I believe Kevin Williamson was inspired by the tragic murders. What happened in Gainesville was far more shocking, depraved, and disturbing than the film Scream (a good horror film).
It's really good to see the victims as people. It really breaks my heart and I hope that the victims are resting peacefully.
@Austin Mccullar did you know Sonja?
@Austin Mccullar ALL of the victims were described as kind & gentle by everyone who knew them. They were ALL good kids.
What is the music in the beginning?
This is what inspired the Scream movies
Thats crazy, i never knew that.
@@Plumeria808 idaho murders
I’ll never forget this horrific thing! Seemed like every day going into work and simwone would say “another one was murdered”! Still so sad to this day!
It’s so weird watching this because I go to school here and know people who did during the murders (like friends parents and stuff) crazy.
Can't believe I'm seeing my university and hometown being represented by ABC. Didn't even know about this story.
Gville will unfortunately always be "put on the map" bc of these murders.
@@user-rx2uz4kq9x I think Gainesville will always be on the map because of UF rather than this; most people don't really know about this story.
reminds me of the idaho case right now
agree think the Idaho killer studied this
I agree. To me, Gainesville was horrific because the victims were completely sober and aware of what was happening, which is utterly horrifying.
I still crying this although its been 30 yrs.

I listened to this story via abc 20/20 podcast and it was shocking 😭😭😭. And to imagine what these girls went through is terrifying.
I pray that God grants the parents and everybody associated with the girls, healing ❤
Most were girls, but Tracy was a woman of 23. Manny was tortured, too, and fought for his life. RIP.
This what gives me second thoughts of living on my own
One of the victims was a guy who was staying with his friend to protect her. Not much anyone can do if someone surprises you a with intent to kill, save being a trained fighter yourself.
Who else is here because of MrBallen and the strange dark and mysterious delivered in story format?

Christina Powell was beautiful girl.
If she lived now,she is 49 years old,
she would be a good matured lady.

My hometown!! I was 2 when these sad events took place. Of course I don't remember none of it, but I always heard about it. And now I am watching the story on it. I had no idea the movie Scream was based on this guy,,,wow. If you ask me, he shouldn't have had that much credit as to even have a movie based on him. But that's just my opinion though. ..rest in peace to the victims.
Danny Rolling grew up in the Sunset Acres subdivision of Shreveport, LA. His dad was a Lieutenant with the Shreveport Police Dept. The father was very abusive to the mother, Danny, and the brother. He also killed the family dog. Danny tried to kill his father by shooting him twice in the face, but the father survived. His father later died of liver cancer.
@@cpierce1263 wow. I didn't know that
What I don't understand is other than the abusers being dead...Why don't serial killers or even one time killers have the courage to kill who abused them? Have the courage to take out your rage on them instead of innocent people you don't know. What cowards. I don't advocate killing, but if you're going to then do it to the ones who abused you.
I have always wondered why Danny didn’t complete suicide if he attempted it many times. He was a liar, though, and I believe little of what he said can be believed.
Hate all the ads. Annoying
Fun fact: late actor river phoenix who is native in gainsyville
Steve Spurrier then-44 years old at the time changing Florida Gators Football FOREVER, and bringing out the Blue Jerseys.
He went mad and killed five young peolple , he got put down for it. Good job justice handed to DR.
The reporter seems exactly the same as courtney cox's character in scream 😂
Similar to Idaho college murders
Exactly so many similarities especially the type of knife used in the brutal horrific murders in the idaho 4 murders.
If these five students lived they would having a family of their own, very successful now,
How do you know?
Indeed it’s sad they had such bright futures
got there in 1993 and the university was still in shock over what happened. i know gatorwood apartments was one location.
This was during Penny Gadget, Maria Santiago (now Casagrande), Tim Scam, Margaret Nussbaum aka "Candy Sweet", Cody Lambert's 12th Grade Senior Year in High School 1990-91 season.
Dark history of my city
He didn't want to have to go down to make a public statement as he was watching football? Wow, how cold.
Actually, he didn't want to go down to what he (the Chief) thought was a "routine" homicide. But when the officer provided some details on the first two victims he knew he had to go down.
Don't listen to cassette tape found at crime scene. Bunch of seat moisteners that couldn't catch a cold.
So before you start there is no ending it just stops and doesn’t finish. So that’s my warning before you start
They don’t show the full thing, but if you look up that case on Google, you could see that the guy that killed them all is dead a was in jail.
Reminds us of BK?

As if this weren't enough, Sonja Larson's brother, Jim, was engaged to his future wife Carla at the time of the tragedy, married her, and had a child with her. Then Carla was murdered, too, at the hands of another killer...

Yes all the time
It’s because stuff like this happen that I believe in God

Jesus Christ desired to die, suffer, rise from the dead three days later for our sake. He went through so much pains so that we may repent, have full faith in Him, and believe fully in Him. So, pick up that cross today, and never drop it by Gods grace.
If god existed he literally would never allow such tragedies
Austin 3:16.
You’re Beautiful@ He is real and always will be. He let them die because it was their time. We don’t know if they are going to Heaven or not, but we do know that they were good people.
@@fxmouscoco7240 'We don’t know if they are going to Heaven or not, but we do know that they were good people.'
Isn't that an oxymoron? We see them as good people, yet it's up to God to decide where they'll end up. So if they go to Hell, how should we view God? As an evil God for sending them to Hell?
swallowedinthesea@ If God sees them as bad then they probably are bad. We are humans and are still learning about life, but God already knows about life since he created it. So that does not put him in the wrong.
False flag? Hmmmmm.. 🤔
When people ask why god?🙄
Don’t worry they caught him
Just one guy 😜
Nothing to see here
Gatekeepers will keep you away
Never listen to them
Keep looking into it
There’s more that meets the eye
one aspect the media will not go into: complex trauma. danny rollins came from a horribly abusive childhood. society seems to ignore that complex trauma continues on unabated generation after generation. and so, more violence will continue generation after generation. there needs to be a way for society to heal and no more abuse.
If god existed and he was a just and all knowing, he’d never allow this. 🤔
That's their destiny bro and god exist if u want or not

@@5thejurassic same thing. You can't prove that He does not exist.
@@godfreyarbiol6787 no I can't but to claim it is someone's destiny to get stabbed is borderline insane. It's always so funny how people who are believers fail to recognise their survivor's bias.
