    Great video. In my 10e experience, Cadian leaders are best used with Cadian shock troops. Don't forget an ogryn bodyguard for that command squad, especially if there is expected close combat action. It can be a pretty deep point sink but, if you're advancing or defending this blob of infantry is great for holding home objective or nearby no man's land objective. Cadian leaders can run with Kasrkin but in my 10e experience it is less than ideal use of points. I'm running my mixed lists right now but thinking of a cadian centric list for certain events.

    That regimental standard bearer is absolutely gorgeous. Would you mind sharing which paints and technique was used for the banner?

      Oh, I wish I had recorded the process. It was a mix of purples and deep blues great the Eye of Terror in the backdrop. No idea which paints they were at this point.

    You are correct. With that ability to ignore any modifier to a characteristic you can ignore Battle Shock's reduction to OC as OC is a characteristic. The unit still could not have stratagems played on it while battle shocked though. But at least they can always test on their natural 7 leadership.

    • @CadianSergeantSteel
      @CadianSergeantSteel  9 месяцев назад +1

      I would not be surprised if they change this ability when the codex drops. It seems like it could create a lot of feel bad moments against certain armies.

      @@CadianSergeantSteel I don't know. Not like our squads have much defense to focused attacks. Let's hope it stays. 🤞I mean you can only take Cadians for this combo.

    • @orthanus
      @orthanus 9 месяцев назад

      @@RFischer My understanding is that replacing the OC with 0 is not "modifier", which is specifically the +/- values. However order of operations is correct so the OC is set to 0, then modified with a +1 for a total of 1.

    Hey I can't find the rule saying you can attach multiple officers, but I know the commissar has an ability for being with another officer, but I still haven't found the rule that makes it clear. I'm only using the app for my rules, haven't bought index cards.

    • @CadianSergeantSteel
      @CadianSergeantSteel  9 месяцев назад +4

      It's in the Unit Composition rules for the infantry units

  • @ghost9pm407
    @ghost9pm407 8 месяцев назад +1

    One thing I'm having a hard time figuring out, is if attaching the Attaches to a Tempestus Command Squad prevents them from Deep Striking. If so that would be disappointing.
    I think Sustained1 on a trio of Basilisks could be really good but the obvious problem is that if you're shooting indirect than your attache most likely can't see those enemy units either.
    But if you can attach them to Scions you can get behind your opponents L-shaped ruins for visibility to more targets.
    I'd be curious as to your take on this interaction.

    • @CadianSergeantSteel
      @CadianSergeantSteel  8 месяцев назад +1

      I think you are correct in that if you attach the Regimental Attaches to your Scion Command squad, you lose Deep Strike. It's also a bummer because there are no large capacity transports for Scions, meaning you can't even attach any of these to a larger squad and bring them in via a transport. This means there is no easy way to bring in your attaché unit into LOS of enemy units without risking them being shot off of the table.

    • @ghost9pm407
      @ghost9pm407 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@CadianSergeantSteel Yeah then transport is the only way. Doesn't help with the visibility problem though.
      I really like the re-roll wounds ability on the Taurox Prime and Crassus but when I put combos together it ends up being way too many points. As a Guard player I like to be the one punishing people for taking death stars and not the other way around.

    • @ghost9pm407
      @ghost9pm407 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@CadianSergeantSteel Hey sorry to bring up an old comment again but some new info came to light. Based on re-reading the rules and some discussions with other Guard players I think since the rule states "they become members of the squad" this is one of the rare instances where the attaches do inherit the Deep Strike rule.
      More imporantly, if you attach them to a Tempestus Command Squad which is the only Command Squad with the Regiment keyword, you can bring them back with the Reinforcements strategem. As long as you don't attach a Scion squad to them, there are no Attached Characters so they are elgible to come back since they are "members of the unit".
      In addition to this, if you stick an Ogryn Bodyguard the whole unit becomes T6 since you use the highest T value in the unit. I've seen this run in major tournaments and it's legal.

    • @CadianSergeantSteel
      @CadianSergeantSteel  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@ghost9pm407 Oh, if that is how that works, that really opens up a lot more opportunity. I'm still skeptical though because I don't think Leaders inherit the Bodyguards abilities. This is why each Core Rulebook Ability (Deep Strike, Scout, etc) say "if every model in this unit has this ability". That's different than a Medic Pack which is "models in this unit have ____". Although Militarum Tempestus Command Squads have Deep Strike, I don't think they convey that ability to the Regimental Attache. It's almost like Attaches are a Leader unit to a Leader unit except that they don't break away once the Bodyguard unit is destroyed. I could see it how your saying though and think this needs an FAQ to truly clarify it. I don't think it's broken to do what you're saying though.

    • @ghost9pm407
      @ghost9pm407 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@CadianSergeantSteel Yeah that's the beautiful part, since the Attaches aren't attached characters and aren't Leaders (sounds weird to say), they're considered members of the squad, those restrictions you mentioned don't apply. For rules purposes if they're members of the squad and the squad has the Deep Strike special rule, they would also have it. I've never seen any other instances where certain members of the same squad have a special rule and others don't. I agree an FAQ would be helpful since it might be a RAW vs RAI issue.
      I think it also opens up a few of the Aircraft units for play, since the Attaches let them hit on 3's. The Avenger and Voss look good at 130 points. If you take fixed objectives they could help you get engage pretty easily on turns 3-5 when the rest of your resources are running low to score it. Since they're pseudo-indirect they could help crack open transports behind LOS blocking terrain so that the normal Artillery can get to the units inside. Russes and Dorns have a hard time doing that since that forces you to play super aggressive with them to get sight lines. Aircraft can do it from 47.9" away.

    Why not use the grand strategist on the cadian command squad instead of the castellan?

    • @CadianSergeantSteel
      @CadianSergeantSteel  7 месяцев назад +1

      You can totally do that. I usually pick the Castellan since he is more likely to live if my opponent uses precision. I'll kill off the Command Squad, usually, before I do the Castellan. I like the ability to fall back and shoot if needed in the mid and late game.

    Lord Solar can go into this combo. Right?

    • @CadianSergeantSteel
      @CadianSergeantSteel  9 месяцев назад +1

      He can join up with 1 of the 2 Command options, but not both. So you could do Solar with a Cadian Command Squad or a Castellan, but not both. I do recommend Solar with a Commabd Squad to toss his orders out at 24" range.

  • @Trazynn
    @Trazynn 9 месяцев назад +6

    The Castellan is such an absurdly overpriced model relative to just about any other kit in GW, both model wise and pointswise. GW should've just created a regimental attache kit that includes a castellan.

    • @CadianSergeantSteel
      @CadianSergeantSteel  9 месяцев назад +2

      It's $35 USD. I think that is on par with most other small character kits, which is still pricey for the amount of plastic. I think the points are okay. I always upgrade mine with Grand Strategist, add the Command Squad, and for 120 points, I can do a lot of buffing and have more tactical flexibility.

    • @Trazynn
      @Trazynn 9 месяцев назад +1

      That's true. There's admech marshalls and such that are priced the same. I suppose I'm more bitter about not having a plastic squad of creepy upper echelon humans as you've shown here.
