I have 5 year old. When my doughter was a baby I had simmilar thoughts like you about responsibility about her future way of eating. And all her great habits started to vanish when she was 2-3 years. She started to be picky and didn't want all vegetables she used to eat. So don't pressure youself so much as you don't know how your baby will change within next years. All the best 💛
Don’t put so much pressure on yourself, food introduction isn’t about them eating it right away as much as it is about discovering the taste, the texture and playing with the food. Keep offering, she’ll start getting interested and eat herself. You’re doing great!
She’s also doing this with the whole internet watching…. Which can be like having the most critical mother in law ever over your shoulder… that’s probably a lot of the reason for pressure
It’s fantastic that you are making all of her good yourself. Just a quick tip if you are open to hear from other moms, the food you made is quite thick, if you make it runnier, less thick it would be easier for baby to enjoy it, much easier to swallow and not get stuck in her mouth.
It’s so nice to see another mom feeding nutritious food to their baby and not just relying on store packaged fake foods. We started with these same first foods. My son is now 2.5 years and NOT picky at all! He still eats all raw and cooked veggies at meals & snack. He eats what he sees us eating. We don’t eat typical american kid food - hotdogs, chicken nuggets, mac n cheese so we’ve never had a problem with his eating. I know Sage will do great with you as her mom!
I enjoyed this so much.I am so impressed with Sage's dexterity, and alertness, she follows you when you speak. You must be over the moon, with this very important stage in her life..Your a great mother, like you said your starting her on a great relationship with food...Looking forward to seeing her next meals..yum,yum👶

Nita here from @happyhealthyeaters - thank you so much for sharing our content, we appreciate it. What I loved the most about this video is a) you're learning from soooo many sources and different accredited professionals. We also are huge fans of Melanie Potock and b) your ability follow that parental instinct. Like you, I also started my first on puree foods until I knew it was time to pivot. With my second, my confidence was sky high and he was so eager for alllll the food, so we took a different route. Best of luck to you - thank you for reaching out to us and happy to support you and little Sage along the way. Stay well. (ps this is the first time I've ever left a youtube comment so I'm hoping it works!)
I love watching your videos with Sage. I have learned lots from you. I love that you did hybrid with feeding her. I feel like people put so much pressure on new parents for solely BLW. Thank you for sharing.
You’re doing great! My boy didn’t care for solid food much until 9.5 months, he really just wanted breast milk until then. I did do BLW at 6 months, but he didn’t as I said really eat or enjoy much until later. My babe hated purées. We did sign language and it was a blessing!
I’ve been waiting for this video. My daughter will be six months in June. I don’t think she is quite ready for solids yet but I’m excited to start researching and preparing for it. Thank you so much for the resources.
Please keep recording your journey. These videos are going to be so helpful when my baby gets to this stage. I feel I learned so much watching your journey and it will be awesome to see more videos like this to see with other creations you come up with the more things you learn and get playful with delicious healthy meals for baby. You make delicious meals for healthy adult eating and this is awesome to tap into another world of healthy baby and child eating so is parents can follow you o this journey.
You made my day watching Sage eat! Her reaction to the food was priceless. Love the airplane trick Nikole! I used that trick 27 and 24 years ago. (Time flies) Great job Sage. You will be a pro very soon.
Yes, please, more baby food videos. You are helping people with gastroparesis that have to puree their food. Gastroparesis is a stomach that empties very slowly. I don't think Sage needs the fork, but putting the food on her spoon to where she can feed herself is very good learning for her. I think the breast milk is better mixed with the food rather than a separate cup because you don't want to dilute her stomach acids. 👶
I could just watch her eat all day. My daughter is 4 years old, I'm still feeding her because she has never been interested in food, and I'm constantly thinking what did I do wrong, but the more I read about, the more I learn. She is just like this it's gonna pass eventually. But Sage is soooo cute and this video is very useful!!! Keep up the good work Niki, best wishes to your family! 🤗😍
This was fun to watch and I loved how you used breast milk to thin out the consistency for the baby food! I have a Baby NutriBullet blender set, so I’ll be doing this soon enough when baby comes this summer!!🥰
Aww your baby girl is growing beautifully, your and her are pretty🥰, Its fun to be part of her growing up journey, I pray that U and your family's life is full of blessings and positivity 🙏🏽♥️. This video was fun to watch.
I started with purees for 2 months then started whole foods and right now we do some of both. I think you should trust you instincts when it comes to feeding your baby! Good job mama!
Watching sagey eating and you teaching her chewing and eating is kinda THERAPEUTIC EXPERIENCE for my eyes, you give me hopes of having a small and happy family soon in my future. BEST THERAPY EVER...I COULD WATCH YOU GUYS WHOLE DAY LONG ( I already do that though 😅😅)❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I feel like I was so stressed with my first and was not looking forward to starting solids with a second baby. This video is so helpful though, thank you!
My son just turned 6 months at the beginning of the month and like you, I just felt that he was not totally ready for BLW so I am also starting with puree but starting the foundation to one day start full on BLW. I am glad I am not alone what I am thinking of doing.
Aww so cute, Sage is such a funny little girl! Found your videos on RUclips and always look forward to watching the next. This one is very useful for our next baby due in September. Thank you for uploading this nutritional information!
Yaaay!! I am so excited for this video!! Thank you so much for sharing Nikole! My daughter is 3 months old-already🥺 But I'm looking forward to the day I am able to introduce her to solids🙂 Love all your videos in the past 2 weeks! They're all super informative and so fun to watch. You guys are such an amazing family 😊 thanks again for sharing your lives with us❤️...also loving baby Sage, she is such a cutie patootie 😍
We did a combination of purées and baby led weaning with our first daughter and are doing the same with our second (who is just a few weeks older than Sage) and it is working really well so far
Thankyou so much ❤ you have helped me so much with feeding my baby i felt so lost untill i found your video keep up the good work ... new to your channel
Thanks for showing all those products! I'm due in December with my first baby, and I'm working on my registry. This is helpful! Also, I've been watching all of your baby videos!
BLW has nothing to do with trends or how strong your baby is, but that being said, do as you feel! As long as you don't trick her to eat and don't feed purees until 4-5years, it's all going to be good. There is too much pressure, it's just food! Took me a long time to figure that out, I was so so stressed to feed him enough, all food groups (and my baby is a not a good eater - he would much rather run around and just drink milk when he feels hungry :)) )
I completely agree! I know BLW has been around forever in parts of Europe, etc but its a big thing now popping up in North America so I guess that's what I meant by trendy. It was really fun to document her first week and honestly she's improved so much with feeding herself and drinking from a cup even in the last two days.. Im such a proud mama!
Whew I'm so stressedddddd about this topic! Thanks for sharing and being real. I have 7month twins and in so stressing about this and feel bad I don't know much about feeding a baby. Your video have me hope 🙌
I see you are putting in so much work and effort into this, you are doing a great job! Here are some tips from my experience. Try giving the spoon in her hand, or even better, put it on the tray, so she can take it and then put it in her mouth. Don't use other spoons to feed her, use only the small ones that she grabs. Also, try to be more casual during the meal, pretend you are also eating, so that she doesn't feel any pressure. I'm also still learning, so I'm glad you are starting this journey!
Great video!! Definitely a lot of info out there which can make it easy to overthink. Be easy on yourself. Curious why you didn’t do olive oil on the carrots? You can use it as soon as they are ready for solids ❤

I have a 4 month old daughter and I'm so nervous about starting her on solids. I'm autistic but I was not diagnosed until adulthood. I was a picky kid but it was because or extreme sensory sensitivity. I experienced a lot of child abuse from my step mother and it was all reliving around food. She would force me to eat things I couldn't handle and I would throw up. She thought I was just being a manipulative drama queen but I really wasn't. I would prefer getting a whipping to having to eat certain foods because I literally couldn't stomach them. Hi Nicole I love you another sign language word is thank you you put your fingertips on your chin and you want your hand out you’ve help me to be a healthier person love you
Aww this was so lovely to watch thank you! Second time mum with an 8 month old and I love weaning too! So cute when you give her banana on your last day! 😻 she’s such a cutey and you’re a lovely mum!
Hello, I am a first-time mum and I was wondering how many times do you feed Sage solid in a day? Do you start just with one meal a day? I am planning to start weaning my baby next month and I have no clue lol
Wow! I cannot believe she is already at this stage of trying food!! She is growing up so fast! Yay!! Sweet Potato is her first food!! Sweet Potatoes are my favorite!! Good choice 😂. I was also eating sweet potato fries while watching this video. Lol 😂🤣. I loved the end of the video where Sage kept her hand on Nikole's face. I am so proud of Sage!! And you too, Nikole!
Great job, Sage! And meanwhile, I think Cashew girl has found her spot during meal times. The dog knows where to get some scraps of human food. Hahaha!
I love watching your video! I agree my child used to eat anything I put in front of her and know she is so picky it is hard to believe she is the save person
Love this!
Yes same at my side. My baby use to eat anything until 14 months n then she became very picky. Also she'll eat 2-3 bites n then end of the
Story
My child😄
Yes same as my baby used to eat anything and now he doesn't accept to eat anything except bread it's really a disaster 😥
Don’t put so much pressure on yourself, food introduction isn’t about them eating it right away as much as it is about discovering the taste, the texture and playing with the food. Keep offering, she’ll start getting interested and eat herself. You’re doing great!

This reminds me of my nephew’s first bite of food - he wasn’t pleased and it came right back out! But he grew to love food, of course.
