It’s easy to downsize your armed forces, but very difficult to upsize it again when you need it. Sweden has unsuccessfully tried the latter since 2014. Now every country tries to do the same at the same time, which have skyrocketed the price of buying new weapons and vehicles. So doubling your military spending won’t get you double the military, but perhaps 10% increase.

I am increasingly horrified at the ineptitude in the Western democracies. The whole world is headed for catastrophe as evil autocrats grow in confidence that we are too incompetent to defend our own. Sad that so many world citizens are necessarily wrapped up in our own individual personal difficulties of day-to-day living and basic survival and governmental limits.

By the way, I am a probably personally a "socialist", not a "communist".
Key word: "Social". As in take care of each other as friends, but without a ruling autocracy. I guess that ultimately I'm just a "humanist".

I know how the West should do. I was born in Hungary in 1955 and survived the Soviet invasion. I stayed there until 1965. Normalising Russia is more criminal of the West than Putin. As I listen not only hear but listen to Anna, I feel what she's communicating!
Hungary should be reminded of its INVASION of the USSR as part of the Wehrmacht troops. About the atrocities committed by Hungarian Nazi units in the occupied Soviet territories. 30,000,000 Soviet people killed, to which Hungary is directly related. RUSSIA REMEMBERS and will never forget.
The UN Charter, in Articles 106 and 107, gives the right to the winners of the Second World War - the USSR, the USA, Great Britain and China - to apply all measures against the countries that fought against them to prevent actions aimed at revising the results of the Second World War. In particular, it is possible to use military force against these countries. To do this, it is enough to notify the other three winning countries, but not to get their consent.
Forceful coercion of countries that want to revise the Yalta-Potsdam system in Europe can also be carried out by Russia, which is the legal successor of the USSR.
Russia can stop attempts to revive Nazism in Germany, Hungary, Romania, Austria, Bulgaria, Finland, Croatia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Spain, Norway, Denmark, Holland, Japan.
Articles 106 and 107 of the UN Charter also apply to all those countries that refuse to inherit from the USSR - Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania. Their attitude that there was a Soviet occupation and the treaties of Friendship and cooperation concluded by them with the Third Reich move these countries into the ranks of the Hitlerite coalition. The same position is taken by modern Ukraine, which accepts as its predecessor the military-political formations of the OUN-UPA, created by Ukrainian fascists. Proves that all these post-Soviet republics belong to the Hitlerite coalition. Even CIA in the 90s admitted that. The INVASION was this. Apart from millions of Germans on the Eastern front (1941-1945) there were total of 1,5 million troops consisted of other nation's representatives that invaded Russia. The biggest contingents of regular forces (more than 150,000 each) were from Romania, Hungary and Italy. Around 50 000 were from Spain and Slovakia. Other nations of Europe participated as volunteers in different units (including Waffen SS). The greatest number of "volunteers" was from France. Even neutral Sweden rotated around 7000 volunteers in military actions around Baltic sea supporting Germans and Finns. Even guys from Luxembourg were there. Russia can bring up the question of 1941-45 at any moment. It would weigh much more than stopping the bloodshed inside Hungary in 1956. And I'm sure much of Hungarians are normal and reasonable people and that's why not anti Russian.

Can you please expand on your concept "refuse to inherit from the USSR"? Refuse to inherit what? Are you talking about some kind of inheritance of legal obligations and undertakings of USSR when it existed? If so, then you seem to be trying to have it both ways. Only a few sentences earlier you claimed Russia to be "the [singular] legal successor to the USSR". Your final two sentences push the extremes, to put it mildly, using present tense to make claims about support of something "Hitlerite". Have you confirmed with the people living in these countries *today* whether or not they consider themselves "Hitlerite"? Did Germans under Hitler deny being Hitlerite? -- I don't think so. So are you trying now to claim now that all the countries you list are some different kind of "Hitlerite" -- some covert kind? My preference is to ask these people to tell me themselves who they support, rather than to accept your word as a self-appointed spokesperson on their behalf. You seem to me to be about as legitimate a spokesperson for the views of present day Danes on the topic of "Hitlerism" as Putin is a legitimate democratically elected representative of present day Russians.

You are absolutely right. And unfortunately, Russia (or should I say, the Kremlin) is winning in the internet. Take any Western politician who is opposed to Putin and you will see that under any video in RUclips about him, 95-98% of all comments will be very critical of him or very hostile. Something like that can't happen naturally, without a massive propaganda effort.
