Seeing Geddy, Alex, Les Claypool, Matt Stone & trey Parker on stage is freaking amazing! Although, it makes me a little sad that Neil is gone, and Geddy's voice is far weaker than it used to be.
@@lgd1974 I don’t understand why they didn’t draft a female in to do the distinctive voice because it sounds like he’s really having to work at it and can’t get near some of those very high notes . Yes would’ve given their post 2004 work a boost if they’d found some enchanting creature to fill Jon Anderson’s boots. Then again a lot of those old Prog acts seemed to avoid girls in their line ups . 🐢🏴❤️
I love the fact that it takes two drummers to come close to Neil Peart's sound, Neil Peart really does stand alone

I honestly had actual thoughts about wanting to go. Couldnt cuz it was in Denver but also a big Rush fan. Became a fan when i was older so i cant see them live and obv after Neil Peart death.
The fact that 2 of the top 10 bas players of all time are on one stage for a south park concert I can't wrap my head around it but it's fuckin awesome
Jokes aside, seeing Les Claypool and Geedy Lee on the same stage doing basically a serious song for comedic purposes is the most badass thing you can imagine!

and not just any band. Friggin RUSH post Professor. It is a little unbelievable to be honest if I had not seen it with my own eyes.
Matt and Trey's enduring friendship is probably super rare in showbiz, you don't see a lot of creative partnerships last this long in Hollywood.
And Trey is 80 percent of the show but they split everything evenly. Before this last streaming deal, each was worth around $600,000,000. Now they're probably billionaires. All from a construction paper cutout show.
@@anthonyfuqua6988 yeah they talk about it a little on 6 Days To Air, that agents and execs have always tried to separate them by offering separate gigs, but they've never let it happen.
Also, Matt has been super crucial with regards to negotiating for the show, apparently it was his idea to retain full streaming rights before it was even a thing. Now they're reaping the benefits.

@@FSAPOJake Matt does most of the work. They’ve both said that. Trey does voices and SOME writing. Matt does it all and is always the one throwing ideas on the board in their brainstorming sessions for episodes.

I've heard Matt in interviews say Trey is South Park and Trey writes 80 percent of the show and directs. Besides the Rolling Stones or Simpson's no-one has stayed together for so long. Theyre workaholics too. If not doing South Park theyre doing something else.

Also to with them being South Park fans and seeing the clip they knew Geddy and Alex were in the building!! And Matt seeing it he knew right away that he's got like a once in a lifetime chance to perform with his favorite band!
The first thing that goes through my head if I got an opportunity to perform with one of my favorite bands or musicians is I hope I don't mess up on guitar!

Funny, I don't remember seeing him at any of the union meetings... But being able to play bass or keyboards while also playing foot pedals and singing counts as wizardry, especially when you can do all of them as flawlessly as Geddy does.

Me and a friend where just talking about this. I'm shocked honestly that this wasn't an only on hbomax or paramount or whatever. Probably would have been bigger tbh. Like I didn't even know about this concert until I saw it 2 days ago.

Honestly, my favourite thing about this was Trey sitting back and just watching with the biggest smile on his face for how happy he was for Matt.

I am one lucky cat. I've seen Les live 4 times, Geddy live 25 times, Stanley Clarke live 4 times. Of course I can throw Jaco in the mix. I would have soiled my pants at this show.

When you know how close all these guys are. it hits really different to see Matt Stone taking Neil's place for this.

Geddy finally did and now Alex is starting to. At this event and at the Taylor Hawkins tribute they were treated like Rock Gods, deservedly so. Here's hoping they do some sort of tour or residency. Would love to see them play live one more time.

This brought me to tears for a couple reasons... first, I never thought I'd see Ged and Al doing Rush music again. Second, as an aspiring musician, if my heroes surprised me and came out to play with me at a gig, I'd not be able to hold back the tears. What a great moment for ol' Stone.
in the beginning it sounds like geddy is about to tear up singing his old friends words too. or it could be that hes getting a little older and that range is hard to hit, but either way he still powered through and sounded amazing. moments like this will forever be why live music is so important to myself and many others.

@@prettyponymonster that long high note he hit at the end was amazing. I'm sure there was a little rust that needed to be shaken off in the beginning since they haven't played since Neil passed. Still though, by the end that was the best I've heard Geddy sound in like 15 years if not more.
I came here after their Taylor Hawkins Tribute performance. When I was watching that one, I told my son this was the first time they'd performed since 2015. He said no, they did some show for South Park with some other drummer. I was like, WTF??!!! I had no idea this happened. I've been a Rush fan since the 80's. Seen them countless times including their farewell tour. This one was special. God I miss the Professor. RIP Neil.

To see Geddy and Alex performing again after the loss of Neil is more beautiful than anything.
Was this their first time playing together post Neil's departure? Must have been surreal for Matt to be behind the kit with those two in front of him! Good for him! Matt and Trey deserve every bit of their success.

I think so! In the interview with George Stroumboulopoulos they talked about how they occasionally get together to jam but usually just end up drinking beer and not picking up their guitars. When George asked them if they ever play rush songs when they are jamming alone they both gave a very definite and almost mournful "No.". Preparing for this could have legitimately been the first time they had played a rush song at all since Neil passed.
This is pretty incredible.
I will add that the current Primus tour with them playing the entire farewell to kings album was an amazing experience on its own.

That's not technically accurate, Geddy and Alex played in the closing jam at the R&R Hall of Fame in 2017 when they inducted Yes. This is the first time they've played a Rush song live since 2015, though.
Oh, since the death of Neil, yes, but not since the end of the 2015 tour.
The loss of someone in a 3 person group who grew up together over 40 years of playing live and recording albums is not easily put aside. And the love felt for Neil Peart is immediately shown in the audience for this appropriate South Park anniversary. This was the perfect moment for Geddy and Alec to play together on a live stage again. Love is shown in many ways. Their grief at the loss of Neil was terrible to watch. It altered their lives and took them off the stage. In time it became ok for them to feel a different kind of love instead of pain. I will be watching this many many times. God bless all of them and all Rush fans…

Would have crapped myself if I was there. Absolutely love seeing Alex and Geddy getting so much love. They deserve it. Neil's passing made us all realize what a gift their music is and that nobody appreciated them quite enough. Now they are being treated like Rock Royalty, finally. Hope to see them live once more. Thanks South Park. Once again, you've put a smile on my face. That Claypool guy is pretty good on bass, too.

God, I would have KILLED to see Geddy and Alex perform in person again. I know they must miss Neil, and there's no other drummer like him, but it's good to see them on stage again. God, just incredible

I personally can't think of any musician in my generation that deserved his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame more than Neil Peart. Truly a life worthy of admiration and respect in today's music community.

Matt got to be the drummer of Rush for one night, that must've been a dream for him. Having Primus there to back them up made it even better.
Going back and watching this, it's insane how humble Matt & Trey have stayed over the years. Watching them do this is like 2 10-year-old kids who got to sit in on a jam session with their idols.
So glad to see Geddy and Alex back on stage looking happy playing a show together, was grinning ear to ear the whole time. RIP Neil

Seeing Trey and Deaner watch Matt fully geek the fuck out being surprised he’s playing with some of his heroes as a ultra gift from one friend to another in parallel with the love Alex and Geddy still clearly share for the music and what it means to those they’ve influenced and what influences can cause be they musical comedic or whatever. It’s incredible.

my father died in late 2020, he LOVED Rush, and south park. We watche BasketBall, Team America, and the South Park movie all together and laughed. I Wish he could have watched this video. Love ya DAD!!!!!

To Matt Stone, Trey Parker, and every single person who contributed to South Park - Thank you for 25 years of laughter, entertainment, and farts. From when Frosty the Snowman came to life and went on a rampage to when you sang "America, Fuck Yeah!" in this concert; every moment has been a blast and look forward to more from you.
I'll never forget coming home from my first day of 7th grade and my brother (who had just started 4th grade) telling me "there's this show we gotta watch tonight, it's a cartoon with these 4 kids who swear a whole bunch and don't have noses and one of them always dies".
That night we watched Volcano and life was never the same again.
Imagine going to the concert to hear some jokes and Uncle Fucker live and then Rush just fucking reunites on stage in front of your eyes. Legendary
Geddy is so unbelievably amazing that after 7 years of not playing in public he can go out there like that, sound that good, and sustain those notes at the end and just look like he’s having a blast. And on top of that, if I had to play in front of my musical hero’s, which is also Rush, I would not have done anywhere near as well as Matt did. Incredible. Seeing Alex and Geddy on stage having fun like this has me in tears right now. So thankful I got to see them live on their final tour.

First time they’ve played sense Neal’s departure. Had the ultimate privilege to see the last show back in 2015. Neal was definitely smiling down on them!
I got lucky enough to see them live once during the time machine tour. They where so fucking awesome and also just incredibly kind. Day Neil died I cried all day.

Being a massive fan of Primus and Rush this is mind-blowing for me to watch. Seeing Les and Geddy play Bass on the same stage is incredible.

Holy cow! Matt's a kick-ass drummer! To just play like that out of the blue with frickin' Rush with no rehearsal, impressive.
Yeah, I was wondering how they would've set that up without him knowing but making sure he was at least somewhat prepared. Maybe Trey already knew this was one of Matt's favorite songs that he practices regularly, or maybe leading up to the event he could've just nudged him along like like, "Hey man, I really dig this song would you mind practicing it with me?"
Matt is clearly following the other drummer... That said he's killing it.
They actually did it as a cover the night before. Les tricked Matt into learning it for the "cover".

That was genuinely heartwarming. You can see it on Matt's face, he knows he is over his head but is having a blast anyway and he had the bonus of playing with Rush. The closer to South Park moment Geddy just jumps in and has a wide grin.
This actually brought tears to my eyes ... very emotional. All I can think about is his young Daughter that lost her Dad. And then you know how powerful and personal music is to the rest of the guys in Rush. I am sure they were both filled with so much emotion there on stage. Then I saw all the shocked people in the audience. This is just so powerful.
Can you imagine? There at Red Rocks for an evening of simple fun and good music and then that happens? A Rush fan might just go into shock and not even hear the music. Just stand there, mouth agape, in total awe.
Matt could have died that night a very happy man. 1/2 way through the song you could see on his face he was thinking “There is no way I am drumming for Geddy and Alex right now!!”

Didn't Neal Peart write Rush's music? I'm 43 but was always into grunge and 60's and 70's rock. Just kinda discovering Rush. Did he write the guitar and bass parts too?

@@anthonyfuqua6988 except for the first album with John Rutsey, Geddy and Alex wrote the music and lyrics along with John since he could sing as well but was more of a backup to Geddy, Neil wrote all of the lyrics there after except for "Tears" by Geddy on 2112.

@Spuds is right. Geddy and Alex wrote all the guitar and bass parts. After original drummer John Rutsey’s departure (the best thing that ever happened to the rock n roll world IMHO) Neil wrote all the lyrics (except “Dreams”) with assistance from Geddy during the songwriting process to help the words and phrasings fit the music. Also Neil contributed greatly to the writing of the music. It was a true collaboration, give and take in the best musical sense.

Good point I was surprised how good he sounded to be honest. A little sad knowing he had a lot of touring years left he could have done had he wanted to if the Professor was still with us.
It struck me that he sounded like he was using his early singing voice, rather than what he used on tour in the 90s and later. Though I'm fine with both.

@@Nothing-db1zy Already showing signs of decrease in 2010? Buddy, by 2007 Ged’s voice was pretty much destroyed for the ranges he needed to sing in. As for a decline in vocal ability, I’m not sure if you’ve listened to their discography but you can hear a very steady decrease in range from 1978-2012. Like, super obvious decrease. So when I say “in years”, i mean the last couple tours, not fucking decades hahah. He sang better in this video than he did for the majority of the time machine tour, thats all I’m saying.
Primus holds this down so well, you can just see how in control the members are during this.
One of the coolest things I've ever seen. Just a bunch of legends having a hell of a good time. The look on Matt's face was just pure joy and anxiety the whole time but he killed it.

I knew that even after Neil's unfortunate passing, they would find a way to still carry on and do some little things here and there. Well, this isn't really a "little thing". It's a celebration of South Park's 25 years of existence, and seeing 2/3 of Rush join in on the fun is just so damn wonderful. Everyone who saw it live, I am infinitely jealous of you all.
This was magical. Having seen Rush live during the late 70's and early 80's, and Primus on their Farewell to Kings tour, this really brought back some memories.

I remember seeing Rush in concert back in 2008 for the Snakes and Arrows tour and right before they played Tom Sawyer they had a clip on the screens of the kids from Southpark singing the song but getting the lyrics wrong. It was hilarious AF! Glad to see it going full circle here with Rush showing up at the Southpark Anniversary concert!!!!

I saw them in Georgia on that tour! There was a big storm before the show and I was afraid it would get rained out, but everything went off without a hitch. My first Rush show and one of my favorite concert memories!

every time i watch this I appreciate it even more. the look on stones face when Geddy and Alex walk on stage, the loose excitement in Alex and Geddy of being on stage together again is just timeless. One of the best concerts to ever happen that most of the world will never even know about.
