Brilliant and honest review, i love that you are just yourself on these videos. Production seems to be evolving as well, great job mate look forward to the next one !
Really nice review, good to hear the comments, I've had one of these GoKarts Mini's for 5 years now and love driving it..... I'm keeping it for that reason....... Look forward to watch more.....👍🏻
Hey Nathan, thanks!! Unfortunately now sold. As part of 12 Cars I've since had a Nissan GTR R32, Lotus Turbo Esprit and now a Lancia Integrale! The Mini was fun!
I really like the idea of what you are doing with the 12 cars - not many would actually go through with it! Enjoyed the video and looking forward to the rest.
Another great video. I had an '04 Cooper S new and tuned it a bit to about 220bhp. I loved driving it but didn't know the GP was so focused. Supercharger whine is awesome!
Another great film from the Number27 Studio! Before watching this I didn't really know about the GP and how it differs from regular works Coopers - and interesting background on how its built. I had felt that through the BMW-era, the word "Cooper" had become devalued, a bit like "Abarth". These seemed to be on the boot of every other compact car in the supermarket car park. But this Mini Cooper Works GP is as special as the original Coopers back in the '60s - and from your drive, it seems that the Go-Cart driving joy of the original Mini is alive and well with this machine. The spirit of Mini is alive & well, and this film forced me to re-think my preconceptions. This film also shows what a great concept you have with this series - as you've said, how you might drive a car you own is different to a car you are borrowing. But it also shows that, for what is really not a great deal of money in regular, everyday new car terms, you can get some really worthwhile cars if you look hard. And selling each car to fund the next means that, after working through a great range of engaging & rewarding machinery, if you sell the last car you may end up having spent less money than you would spend on one of those heavily-restricted "Supercar Driving Days" . If you buy well, you may even come out in profit! Thanks for the film. Genuinely inspiring. Makes me want to go for a drive!
Waiting for 2021 when I can legally import one from the States. The GP1 was never sold in Canada so we have to abide by our 15 yrs rule until it’s legal to import one. Until then, my regular R53 will do.
Love you videos and what you are doing!!! The Bertone connection was a surprise that I didn't know about!! I'm really looking forward to the Lancia Integrale - 1 down 11 to go!!
Hope you are well. when will you review the mimi gp2! The Gp2 is the Real Mcoy...19 seconds faster than the Gp1(supercharged one) on a lap of the nurburgring. Can't wait to see it..Good day,
Great review of the GP , it looked like you was on the isle of wight down on the south road from freshwater bay … I know it well , I used to have a works GP Mk1 and love to noise of the air being sucked in by the supercharger at high RPM and was sad when they swapped that out on the mk2 for a turbo ..
Listened to this video and so many inaccurate statements I just had to chime in...having worked for MINIUSA I know what I speak.... 1) The car was assembled in Oxford England as a Pepper White MCS JCW, and then shipped to the Italian Coach Builder Bertone in Grugliasco Italy. 2) It has same 380cc Injectors in any JCW equipped with the "Sound kit" which included an upgraded JCW airbox. 3) It has the same JCW Sport Suspension System offered to all 1st Gen MINI's. 4) If the standard JCW has the Sound kit option in #2, same HP numbers as a GP.. 5) There is only one JCW airbox for the 1st Gen. only upgrade available. 6) The interior rear bar is called a luggage bar by MINI, it is not a "strut brace". It offers no structural stability whatsoever. 7) The 3 spoke steering wheel is a JCW wheel, not a GP wheel, no such thing. Otherwise enjoyed your video...!
Hey, thanks for watching and setting us straight, research has never been my strong point! I will take issue with just one of your points though.. The rear bar is indeed called the luggage bar by Mini as legally they need to have something there to stop luggage flying into the front of the car but structurally it is indeed a strut bar, it connects the rear shock towers and reduces flex leading to loss of camber under cornering. Also while not certain on this I have read that the shock settings were specific to the GP. Indeed I myself experienced that the ride is much less bouncy and harsh than on normal JCW's.
Half correct on suspension. The JCW Sport suspension springs have springs rates based upon VIN number of the car. The VIN provides such information as transmission type, with or without sunroof. That info translates to the actual weight of the car so proper springs are installed. The springs rates are specific to the GP as it has no back seat and lighter rear trailing arms and few other bits. So springs are specific to the model. The rear luggage bar however is not attached to the upper strut towers. If you go to this link, you will see the parts laid out. It basically hovers between the two red side panels. Having removed these parts before I can attest to their not being a structural component to the suspension system. Just page down a bit and the components are laid out on the driveway. bringatrailer.com/listing/2006-mini-gp-2/ If ever looking to increase the fun factor, look into having a smaller supercharger pulley installed....it will almost double the boost, and will do so safely. I have 232,000 miles on mine, runs like brand new still and has had a 17% Craven Speed Supercharger pulley every mile... Motor Safe !!
All that hardware for a measly 8 hp? HAHAHA. Rather get a JCW and use the extra money to make it a GP killer. The difference with the car is really just trim work and a intercooler that seems less than effective.
I own a GP1 for 5 years now, bought with 112500Kilometers on it from 1st owner, now i've driven 80000km in it and it's a great fun car. When you don't have the budget for a real Supercar, so like me, it's a great alternative. @Number27: I enjoyed your review. :) On my Channel you can see an Video of my GP on the Nürburgring. ruclips.net/video/M3Kt8h9CzIo/видео.html
Great watch. Love these raw old Jack vids with the agricultural language!!

LOL I think the gearshift in these cars is really awesome. I love the notchyness.
Not one to mince your words, a good honest real world review.

Thanks Tom, really glad you enjoyed it!! It is a special little car.. Want the Grale now though!
Yes that will be a good film to watch I can't wait.

But, its not as fun, and the direct front end handling has been washed way. The R53 has way more character and is way better looking.

Great video! I've always wanted one...feel like it's now or never considering their age and price...

Gray Raven I stand corrected!! Can't believe it's not connected up. What a waste. Thanks for the info!!
Gray Raven It looks like its not worth of buying GP over JCW with options, whats the difference then?
Awesome video!
Good review
