JVMs are such killer amps, had one from new when they first dropped, now have a Satch version, just so much versatility and tones, you don’t need much else!
I have the JVM 1 watt combo from the Marshall 50th anniversary series. Made in Britain and have used it daily since 2012. Same tubes flawless and awesome

You got a new SUBSCRIBER 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Why, because I think that Strat is beautiful, and your playing sounds really good. Sweet rig also!! Keep churning out the cool vids brother. Be Blessed
About 16 or 17 years ago, I sat in with a friendly rival cover band in town and the guy had a JVM series head and cabinet. It was an incredible amplifier with lots of dynamic response and headroom on volume roll. I haven't seen one since then but it was sweet.
My rig setup is just a Marshall JVM410H with a 1960a cab with a true bypass tuner to the guitar. That's all I need for playing. Sure it takes pedals well, but I love the sound of the amp so much that I prefer to stay minimum on pedals.
I'm really impressed with the tones and your playing! I've never really been a Marshall guy; I've always gravitated towards Blackface Fenders for clean, pedal platform type amps, Mesa overdriven tones, or the snobby, boutique amps. This Marshall sounds killer though!
Thank you!! I’m a huge Fender fan too. I don’t have any Blackface Fenders but I’ve got some specimens of Silverfaces that sound better than they should. My 1970 Bandmaster sounds amazing! Thank you for watching!
I would not even take a Jubilee over my 410, the tones are in their, I had several BE Friedman's, still love my 410 better, I play the living crap out of that amp, I was using it through a 1960 4-10 cab with greenbacks, but I switched to a 2-12 1936 lead cab and holy crap the thump you get out of that set up is incredible, great video it's awesome to hear the excitement of other Marshall user's.
Thanks for your kind words. I’m a tone nut and just love great guitar tone so being able to make a video like this one is such a great time for me. Thank you for watching!
I absolutely do like the 2-12 better, it has a lot of low and mid range, I can't speak for all 2-12s but I love that one, I used to be a 4-12 only guy this 2-12 changed my mind.
@@strugglingguitarist wow...that's nice testimony...I own the 1936 with the g12t75 and I think the sound of them is too closed...I have to increase so much the treble e presence to get more bright. They are awesome...amazing tones...but, I don't know, I think the GH12 is more vintage, has more a classic sound and less compressed and closes. Trully rock n' roll...I'd like to experiment. Anyway...I'm happy with the 1936 and my JVM. I'could spend all day plaiyng...LOL. Hugs from Brazil, man...
I love my JVM410H! I think this is the best sound of this amp on youtube. What a nice playthrough. I own a 1936 cab with 2 g12 t75...these gt12evh sounds way better...very nice review, man. Hugs from Brazil.
I gigged with a 205h for years. Amazing amp. Incredibly versatile. Mine was modded with the negative feedback and choke mod. I really regret selling it.
The ultimate Marshall that Marshall makes. BTW, I remember the first time I experienced what a JB can do through a Marshall when I played my Kramer Baretta through a cranked plexi with a Rat pedal in 1985. It was a revelation. Duncans sound amazing through crunchy Marshalls.
It can be, but I use Master 1 for OD2 with the gain way back for that Plexi sound towards the end of the video. Need MV1 to balance that with the others. Thank you for watching!
I've experimented with loads of amps over the years, always selling them. Then I played a JVM in 2015 and never looked back. I've had loads of amps since as well, Soldano, EVH, Friedman, Blackstar and sold all those. The only one that keeps delivering is my JVM. Best amp I've ever had.
Nice playing! I’m still not sure why the Marshalls after the 80s get no love. The JVM is awesome - so is the TSL which is another under appreciated amp! I have the TSK, JVM, Friedman, boogie, the whole shebang and I honestly like my JVM best…. The Friedman is awesome don’t get me wrong but the JVM just wins for pure flexibility!
I think a lot of people get hung up on that old school Marshall thing and I gotta be honest, I LOVE my Studio Vintage for its Plexi simplicity and just pure raw tone! But there is something to be said for how Marshall have been able to maintain THAT THING that is the Marshall tone while updating it throughout the years. Thank you for watching!
I have quite a few amps, it really has its own character plus a huge amount of gain. I didn't know about the "plexi mode" on the OD2 channel and it was a useful and interesting tip, however my biggest disappointment was the crunch channel which doesn't sound like the JCM 800 (and I own one of these) despite the hype.
I went over to One of my Best friends a used to play in a Band with years ago He does this get together with all of the local Musicians,Hell I’m in my 60s now and he had this amp and it blew me away,He plays through a Axe Effects nowadays for his gigs he said he was going to sell this same head until he hooked it up and I played through it He said he was gonna keep it, I almost bought it from him,Well needless to say I’ve gotta get one now,This is probably the last great Marshall Head in my Opinion!!!
If you consider, how much a Savage 120 or VH-4 costs, this amp is a bargain - at least in Europe for 4 channels plus different voicing options. Plus, it rocks like a Marshall, as it is one and not only a - theoretically improved - boutique version, which does not really nail the tone, but is more expensive. At the moment I am happy with decades old, but still awesome sounding JMP-1, but this could become my next amp.
Ya know, that’s a really good question I don’t know. Maybe some variant in the JCM900 line? Maybe the DSL100 on the Red channel? I’ll need to do a little exploring when I get outta the hospital. Thank you for watching!
Are you using a secret noise gate?? I've got the JVM410C and OD 1 Red w/gain at 2 o'clock and well, with a bit of volume thats hissy and on the verge of breaking out into uncontrollable screech. You can get away with those gain levels if a bit further away from the amp....gigging with mine I can't get past 12 o'clock OD1 orange or the amp will just wanna go into too much noise to make it useful and controllable (i'm talking on small stages where you're close to the amp!). Great sound but a noisy beast....totally get why Satriani had to get his modded with a noise gate (internally added). Lately i've been gigging my DSL50 instead for those very reasons (plus its a bit better tonally IMO).
I have a gate in the chain but it's turned off in this video as I wanted to get the natural response of the amp. There's definitely some hiss in there but I've also edited the audio pretty tightly, that's probably why you're not hearing it. Thank you for watching!
I had a 410 for a couple of years,I just never bonded with it..too soft and compressed, not a bad amp, just wasn’t my cup of tea..The 6100 for me is a better sounding amp…You make the JVM sound great though..Rock on!!
Great Demo 👍🏻 I love all the classic Marshalls, but if someone asked me to recommend one it would be the JVM 410. If you can’t get a good tone from this amp regardless of your musical style, give up!
This amp is great (I own one). It has two basic issues: on both od channels with the gain past noon it starts to feedback as hell. The second issue is that both od channel are not so mid focused as expected from a Marshall. For the rest it has an incredible clean channel and an amazing crunch. No need to modify this beast with all the bells and whistles that you read on forums. Keep it as it is or of you want a less raw sound get yourself a Friedman or a Wizard that cost thousands dollars more but don't give you the idea of having spent so much money. The Jvm is great.
You can get a used JVM for around $1,200 - $1,500. Friedman and Wizard are WAY more expensive and in a class all their own. Comparing them to a JVM is ridiculous…….
Sounds killer. I was lloking for the studio models. This has more channels. Liked the clean aswell. But i am a home gitarist. So i need a antenuator. Is the 2 notes captor x sutable for this amp? And which cap you you get with this amp?
No gate. There is some amp noise but I tried to edit around that. I do have a gate in my pedal chain but that’s for filtering out noise when I have pedals on. That’s an ISP Decimator. Not sure if that was on or not for this video. Thank you for watching!
Great amp. If you like this, check out the Marshall JVM Satriani model or a good Splawn Nitro or Quickrod. The Splawns are even better than this in tone and feel. In comparison, a Splawn will feel a lot better under your finders compared to a JVM or DSL.
I have a Splawn QR - definitely a great amp. I wouldn't say it sounds better than my JVM, just a different flavor. A great one for sure! Thank you for watching!
Another outstanding video! Great shout out to Johan Segeborn! He's another great player who knows how to do a proper review video! To my mind, a crucial part of any good review is a properly intonated guitar. Its almost as if young players these days have no idea what "intonation" is. They play like they *&^%.....just hop on and shred......that faster, the better! LOL! Stay metal, brother! \m/ \m/
They're brilliant. I had the combo once, sold it, and was too heavy. Had the head and used it five years ago, and had to sell it due to fake lockdowns and lack of money. I was gutted! Mine were super reliable too. When the valves needed replacing in the head, it just began to lose output gradually but didn't crap out on me.
Oh man I hate to hear that. Yeah, that whole “occurrence” really screwed a lot of us up. Hopefully you’ll be able to get you another one and commence to rockin! Thank you for watching!!!!
I have had this amp. It sounds plastic to me and overcompressed. It is great though, I would say price/sound/features the best amp I had. However it misses that Plexi/JCM 800 thing. It is about the dynamics :) If I want I can use a compressor. I had the 20 Watt JCM800 after JVM410h and with a distortion pedal and a power soak was the sound I was looking for.
To me the JVM takes a little tweaking, it took me a bit to get to know it. But I’ve found some great sounds for sure. But I dig my Studio Vintage And Studio Classic a lot too! Such great amps. Thank you for watching!
Satriani JCM800 Orange mode is slightly different to the re-issue JCM 2203x in the mids (SLIGHTLY) but it does sounds like a real deal jcm800. THe original JVM is not something you will compare to a real JCM800 if you like the 800 (imho) or a plexi (imho).. they don't both sound raw organic tube ballsy jcm800 or brash plexi ( real plexi can cut your head off so can the satch). The Green mode on satch's amp - i like more than any jtm/plexi i have ever played. I like the gain sweep a lot, and i always gravitate to wanting a little more gain than that mode anyways through the course of playing so it's cool to slide into low gain 800!! clean on JVM is better than clean on Satch's amp.. because for some reason the green clean on Satch's amp is the flattest sounding marshall i have ever heard. It is uninspiring 100% compared to the orignal JVM. I am not sure why he made it that flat sounding, but that had to be intentional. The compression on the OG JVM is cool, it sounds great, but it makes it sound HI-FI and not like the amps it sounds like it's modeling theml.. sounds good.. but isn't a plexi or jcm. The noise is way to much on the OG JVM OD channels you need a noisegate for sure and have to tighten and gate it up pretty good, but it has more compression which makes bad playing sound better, thant he organic open Satch OD channels...(imho). The red mode on Satch's amp sounds like a a modded marshall JCM800 from the 80's, idk which one they modeled it after, but sounds like it's for recording.. (i don't record). it has a sort of higher mid aggressive sound. So that's subjective as to whether somebody records (I don't) or just likes that late 80's early 90's modded 800 thing it's kind of too aggressive in the high mids for me.. (maybe they modded them that way to record, again idk anything about recording amps) If I already owned a jtm/plexi AND jcm800 SURE, i agree no need to buy the Satch amp i agree with a commenter bellow. (even though it's gates are awesome, and the OD is open unlike the OG jVM)... i'd probably been content with a plexi and jcm800. But no single marshall does BOTH. You either have a jtm/plexi or you have an 800 in a single amp. THe satch has BOTH in one box. Again if you are a PURIST for 800 sound.. the re-issue has a slight eq different to the Satch oragne (doesn't sound hifi like the og jvm, doesn't lack balls) just a slight difference i can notice in the mids on the CH2 orange on the satch. No marshall does both.. except the Satriani JVM.... that I know of. The extra red mode, and more gain channels you may not care for anyways. In closing after long review.. THE OG JVM is awesome, it just doesn't sound like a Real Plexi or JCM800. It's a shame Satriani didn't fully take JVM off the name of his amp, as it's a organic ballsy, tube sounding music box... for those who want the rough edges that the plexi and jcm800 have!!! JVM sounds pleasant, but not authentic. Satch sounds absolutely marshall... with that aforementioned SLIGHT mid different in the orange mode (which is an 800). Love all amps mentioned. For modern metal i'd get a mark series, savage mk II or 5150 though!!!! Just my opinion. I know modern metal "tone" isn't coveted or a beautiful sound (it's the riff, and notes you play), but if your going for a modern metal sound (needed for the riffs to shine), skip marshall 100%!!!!!!!!! Marshall does Megadeth and Metallic back through all the hard rock, 80's, 70's and 60's etc.) It does not do forward well haha I love Marshall but djent or death metal is not it's game imho!!!!
I own the Jvm410 over one decade and love it. One thing: You are handling it wrong. Leave the clean channel clean. And the crunch red in AC DC territory. Gain mostly not over half. After that in od1 and od2 you can play with gain like you want. Od1 orange for 80s rock on max half gain and lead on red. For drop Tuning use channel OD2 in orange or yellow. Again gain on half Max. Cheers.
I wasn’t handling it any way, LOL. Just demonstrating all that the amp does. If I were using it, say, on a gig, I’d most definitely use it as you outlined. But with the gain in OD1 orange just over 9:00. And OD2 I’d probably do the Johan Segeborn Plexi thing I did in this video. It’s just a different feel and sound than the Crunch channel with lower gain. Thank you for watching.
Good sounding amp, however.. do they still use pots with cheap flimsy plastic stems soldered directly to the pcb? For that kind of money, bring the build quality up; at least enough that frequently used parts aren’t so fragile.
If you look at the cost of these amps in Europe, which is their intended selling price, they’re actually fairly cheap as amps of this type go. But then that markup to sell over here, it does add slot to make for an expensive amp! Thank you for watching!!!!
@@tutatis96 Sweetwater has them listed at $1900 new, and GC has them at approximately $1400 used. If you’re seeing $650 it’s junk, or stolen. Come to think of it, no matter the price.. it’s cheaply built, with half the gain sweep unusable in the high gain channels. It’s a good sounding, but cheaply made amp which was my point to begin with.
@@stevent5684 sorry 1k£ new, maybe 1.1£ now, but that was the launch price i remember. 650£ is just 33% off, the standard used no guarantee discount. I mean it's normal overseas prices go up, a dual rectifier new is like 4k$ here in europe, i think its around 2.8k$ in the USA
Lol i have the same “no name” cab. You don’t have to lie though. The line 6 logo is easy to remove. But we know man. Again, i have the same cab, and did the same thing. But I’m honest about it
Not a Line 6 cab. Was sold to me as a Splawn but Scott Splawn confirmed it counterfeit. But love also been inside older Line 6 cabs & this doesn’t look like one of those either. Thank you for watching.
Really? Did you buy the amp secondhand? I ask because I'm just wondering if the preamp tubes could use changing - usually these amps have more gain than anyone would ever use.... Thank you for watching!
Yeah commercials are a bummer but currently it’s the only way I can make a (very) little money for the work I do. Thank you for hitting like and thank you for watching!!!
Naaaaa, I'm not cranking the amp enough to be pushing that much wattage & the speakers are rated fairly conservatively. That said, I DID blow one of these G12EVH speakers when running a Bugera Plexi Clone cranked wide open into it. It took about 45 minutes of steady riffing but one speaker did blow. But again, that's a cranked 100 watt Plexi circuit. Thank you for watching!
@@gersonalves6041 Well…..I think that’s the problem. The ‘75s have more modern, “scooped” curve in the midrange and from my experience, don’t really sound right with most Marshalls…..if you are trying to that “Marshall” sound. I don’t know why Marshall puts them in their cabs. They work fine with certain other amps, but even a Plexi won’t really sound very “Plexi” with them. But…….different strokes………
That’s the speakers. I think the JVM sounds better with V30’s or something similar. The Greenbacks are a little too round with the JVM and favored by Plexi players for taming the highs and upper mids that tend to get too spiky with a cranked Plexi. I’ve run my JVM with different cabs and it is all Marshall with the right speakers…….of course this is all subjective.
Yeah Bad ass amp . Each channel Revs the Harmonics up and Higher ! The amp must have the foot board ..Chunk Chunk 👎 Set master and play thought the Channels !!!
I like the gain just past 9:00 on the OD channels. But that’s me, I did find some fun fuzz stuff at the higher gain range - not usually my thing though. Thank you for watching!

Thank you!! I’m a huge Fender fan too. I don’t have any Blackface Fenders but I’ve got some specimens of Silverfaces that sound better than they should. My 1970 Bandmaster sounds amazing!
Thank you for watching!
Great video!
Btw, you could lower the gain of the amp by exchanging the standard pre tube with an ECC823. Might be worth checking out.
I may give this a shot down the road.Might be interesting to hear for sure!
@@strugglingguitarist hi man...I didn't understand. Do you enjoy more the 1936 cab with the g12t75? Thanks...
Thank you for all those kind words, I really appreciate it! And thanks for watching!
Didnt know. Thanks for the vid. Sounds great.

Another great Marshall demo!!! While I prefer the JVM with speakers more in the V30 realm, you got some killer tones with this beast! 👍🤘🤘🤘
Thank you. I do plan on doing another video of the JVM with some different speaker types soon!
Thank you for watching!
Watching this video and it hits different. Thinking of you Steve. For what’s it’s worth I had the JVM210 head and this blows that out of the water.
No worries Bro. I’ll be good as new in no time.
Thanks again for watching!
I gigged with a 205h for years. Amazing amp. Incredibly versatile. Mine was modded with the negative feedback and choke mod. I really regret selling it.
I’d like to hear those kids before committing to em.
Thank you for watching!
Shock me! make me feel better 😁 I got the 205H, amazing Amp!

Thank you for watching!
They sure do. I’ve got a JB in a bunch of guitars and love em!
Thank you for watching!
Awesome Video as allways, Nice Entertainment. I love my Jvm too 👍 clean green volume ajustment is with the Master 1 Chief 😃
Surely a great amp, I love it!
Thank you for watching!
It is a very good amp. It's the best Marshall ever made. It can do all the sounds of the previous amps. People that hate on this amp are stupid.
It does sound amazing that’s for sure.
Thank you for watching!
That brown tone at 5:30 is the truth!
It’s pretty sweet for sure!
Thank you for watching!
Sounds awesome. I didn’t hate any channel.
I think od2 was my favorite. Had bit more top end.
That’s the beauty of this amp, so much to love!
I can get sort of 800-ish tone but it does t seem to have that bite and bark of an 800. Still some fine tones though.
Thank you for watching!
I had owned years ago. The 100 combo. Fantastic amp. It just weighed as much as a small car, so I sold it for lighter amp.
Ooooh I bet that amp as a combo is really heavy! The head’s heavy enough for me LOL!
Thank you for watching!
ohh, i heard aldo nova, great sound, i also have the jvm 205, for me the best marshall amp
Great ear! Thank you for watching!
It’s definitely a killer amp. Tons of gain available!
Thank you for watching!
It really surprised me, once I dove in, how great this amp can sound and in so many ways!!!! And it’s a bargain for sure!!!!
Thank you for watching!
OD2 is my go to with an SD1 and Buxom boost in front. You cant go wrong.
I’ll need to give that a try!
Thank you for watching!

@@yoyorella799 What up Jo Jo, MY man Steve here did a great job representing the JVM.
I have the Marshall JVM 210 combo. These are noisy hissy amps . So just make sure you use a noise gate thru the effects loop.
I’ve owned the standard JVM410H and a Satch version, both not overly noisy or anything, and I don’t use the noise gates on the Satch.
O don’t have a gate on this one - if I crank the gains on the OD channels it does get a bit noisy.
Thank you for watching!
I really wanna try the Satch.

The Bonus tip nailed the whole amp!
Amazing!
Your videos show proper Marshall Tones!
Thanks!

Wow, definitely settings I've never attempted! Can't wait to try this tip. Subscribed :)
You make them all sound great.....But especially when you add the SD-1 in front.
Thank you! Yeah there’s just something about an SD1 and a Marshall!

Nice video.
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
nice demo - it does sound awesome have been thinking of getting the silver jubilee would love to have this one ?
I love em both!!!!

Od 1 orange mode sounds the best. Red mode is mushy. Is there some Marshall which simpliy sounds like orange mode on this one?
Thank you. I’d love to get my hands on a 6100. One day!!!!
Thank you for watching!
@ The 6100 was definitely ahead of its time..I bought one new in 92,but sold it some years later..I want to get my hands on another one too..
Great Demo 👍🏻
I love all the classic Marshalls, but if someone asked me to recommend one it would be the JVM 410. If you can’t get a good tone from this amp regardless of your musical style, give up!
Boom! I couldn’t have said it better!
Thank you for watching!
I agree about the lack of mid focus on OD1/2. I turn the mids all the way up. Thankfully it gives me just what I like.
Thank you for watching!
Sounds killer. I was lloking for the studio models. This has more channels. Liked the clean aswell. But i am a home gitarist. So i need a antenuator. Is the 2 notes captor x sutable for this amp? And which cap you you get with this amp?
YT isn’t showing me which video this comment is about so I don’t know of which amp you speak. Which one?

Yes! You do!

Fantastic video! I'm looking for one now! What, if any, floor or outboard noise gate did you use for this vid?
No gate. There is some amp noise but I tried to edit around that. I do have a gate in my pedal chain but that’s for filtering out noise when I have pedals on. That’s an ISP Decimator. Not sure if that was on or not for this video.
Thank you for watching!
Which pickups in the LP? Sounds great
The bridge pickup in the LP is a Suhr Aldrich. Neck is stock.
My splawn has a very stiff feel. Is that what you're referring too?
I have a Splawn QR - definitely a great amp. I wouldn't say it sounds better than my JVM, just a different flavor. A great one for sure!
Thank you for watching!
Mine doesn't feel stiff - have you checked the power tube BIAS - if it's set too cold that can feel really stiff.
I agree about Johan, I love his vids.
Thank you for watching!
Is that where you normally set those particular drive pedals?
Settings vary depending on what I'm going for.
Thank you for watching!
Tonally, how would you compare it to the Vintage Modern?
It’s a whole different beast. While the JVM does do SOME vintage stuff, the VM just does that better.
Thank you for watching!
Was speeding up the video on parts 😂😂😂
Naaaaaa. Never!!!!!
Thank you for watching!
When you first started with les paul it sounded like Lack Of Communication tone
Thank you - that’s a heck of a compliment!!!!
Thanks for watching!
I've read that the amp is slow to respond to channel switching. Is this true?
No.
Ya know, I’ve never plugged in the footswitch but doing it on the face of the amp it’s instant.
Thank you for watching!
I have the footswitch and it responds the same speed as pressing the buttons on the amp.
(maybe they modded them that way to record, again idk anything about recording amps)
If I already owned a jtm/plexi AND jcm800 SURE, i agree no need to buy the Satch amp i agree with a commenter bellow.
Wow you really did review it. I’d really love to get my hands on the batch. Perhaps someday!
Thank you for watching.
No, he's not playing it how you like it. That doesn't mean he's handling it wrong.
Theyre 1k for four channels lol, used they go for about 650, i wouldn't expect the best build quality is what you'd expect, the sound are much better

@TheGuitarNerdShow No.

Yeah commercials are a bummer but currently it’s the only way I can make a (very) little money for the work I do.
Thank you for hitting like and thank you for watching!!!
100 watt amp into 80 watts of speakers? You worried about blowing that cab?
Naaaaa, I'm not cranking the amp enough to be pushing that much wattage & the speakers are rated fairly conservatively.
That said, I DID blow one of these G12EVH speakers when running a Bugera Plexi Clone cranked wide open into it. It took about 45 minutes of steady riffing but one speaker did blow. But again, that's a cranked 100 watt Plexi circuit.
Thank you for watching!
I prefer bending strings not twisting knobs. Any amp that has more more than 6 knobs is not for me.
To each his own. I love a good Plexi or JCM800 but it’s also nice to have more options to switch between.
Thanks for watching!
they never sound "plexi" enough for me....too much gain but never quiet good as the Mesa or Soldano at least to my ears....
What speakers were you using?
Did you watch through to the end? There’s a near little trick that sounds definitely very Plexi. Very unlikely method too!

@@christopheranderson2158 Celestion 12t-75
@@gersonalves6041 Well…..I think that’s the problem. The ‘75s have more modern, “scooped” curve in the midrange and from my experience, don’t really sound right with most Marshalls…..if you are trying to that “Marshall” sound. I don’t know why Marshall puts them in their cabs. They work fine with certain other amps, but even a Plexi won’t really sound very “Plexi” with them. But…….different strokes………
This is so complicated.
Not at all. Just think of it as 4 amps with 3 modes of gain each. Easy peasy! 😂
Thanks for watching!
I'm not hearing the Marshall midrange. Anyone else agree?
depends how you dial it in. theres plenty of "Marshall midrange" available on the Crunch and OD1 channels
I agree. In fact I think during channel OD1 I mentioned how I like the kids turned all the way up on that channel.
Thank you for watching!
I concur. One of my next vids will be the JVM into different types of speakers, including V30’s.
