    I have had the Marshall 2525C for about 4 years, but I have also had the privilege of owning 8 other amps. I love the Jubilee. After a couple of minutes in this video, I ran into the studio and cranked the master volume and took the lead down. Thank you!

    Sounds good, and enjoyed the selection of demo riffs!
    I've always run my MV Marshalls with the MV at 8+ or more; I prefer the power amp to be a big part of the sound and feel.
    I rarely run pedals in front of my Marshalls, when I do it's usually an EQ pedal, for a clean boost and/or tone variation and usually with my 1959x
    I don't have a Jubilee or 800, my current fav Marshall is my JCM 900 SL-X 2100 100W which has more gain on tap than either; it has two foot switchable masters which I rarely use because I like the masters at 8+ which leaves little room for variations, i.e., I treat it like a one-channel amp and often run one of my EQ pedals in front.
    Cheers!

    Great video and amazing sounds! I’ve got a 2554 1 x12 combo (sometimes into an additional extension cab) bought new around 1987 and still my go to amp today. I’ve always run it as a 2 channel with gain up so it’s about to break up for clean then Master Volume to control how loud I want it. Never needed to use the 50W setting as it goes loud enough on 25 and sounds better! After seeing this though I’m going to have a play with this master volume on 10 for the first time ever for me! I landed on the method of using the gain to as high as possible for the sound I wanted then bring up the master for the loudness required from previous amps, namely a master volume 50 (Marshall) and even my old 12 watt practice amp where the higher gain settings fattened up the tone - sounded anaemic otherwise. Anyway the jubilee obviously is different! Oh just for your information, you mentioned that it might be that the higher master volume settings hits the phase splitter harder as a possible reason for the great tone, actually this is not the case as whatever signal is going into the phase splitter dictates what comes out of the power tubes so hitting the phase splitter hard hits the speakers equally hard, it’s a direct relationship at least until the power tubes are pushed into saturation at high volume. What is actually happening is with the master volume on 10 is that you have a much lower signal coming through the preamp and tone circuit right up to the master volume pot, this increases the headroom - there’s less chance of compression as the valves in the input and tone stages are not being driven as hard. The signal out of the master volume pot into the phase splitter is then the same as it would be the other way around (hi gain lo master vol) for the same volume out of the speakers. I hope that makes sense. Thanks again for the great video!

    Great demo of one of the best amps ever produced. I almost got a 50-Watt Jubilee half stack in '87 but opted for another guitar instead. A few months later I bought a JMP 100 full stack and played the Hollywood clubs with it for a couple years till I switched to a Boogie 50 Cal combo which worked better for me. I have a studio jubilee and it's not long ago that I was playing it and using that 777 thing on it (although I set the bass on 8). Funny thing is that I did not know that this 777 is a thing with jubilee (instead I've heard about 666 settings on other amps) but it just felt like a sweet spot. On this case though I was playing at home so no cranking up took place here.

    Yeah, best would be 2 amps. One drive, one clean.
    The Jubilee sounds amazing. It has that push, drive and fat tone. Especially when hitting a chord you feel and hear that massive sound behind it wanting the chord push through.
    Personally it sounds better to my ears without the extra pedals. The overdrive pedal may make it play more smoothly but it cuts away the fat from the meat producing a thinner sound.
    The Jubilee sounds good with a Les Paul but a Stratocaster works fine as well. Just set the knobs and you're good to go. It's a very versatile Marshall. If one has to choose 1 Marshall that can do it all, it would be the Jubilee in my opinion.

    • @TheGuitarNerdShow
      @TheGuitarNerdShow  2 месяца назад +2

      Ya know, I agree with ya, but with a caveat - I think, when using the pedal, had I messed with the tone knobs, dialed in a bit more low end, it would be totally Fat Albert. That said, I do like the raw grit but I also like the smoothed out feel with the EQ and EP Boost.

    Output master on 10, lead channel to taste. The Jubilee is such an amazingly responsive amp. Have the Re-issue and it is fantastic. It is silent and the EQ section is quite the best of any amplifier owned. Great effects loop and external bias points are a huge improvement over the original. Have a JVM, also a Friedman BE-100. All good amps, but the Jubilee has a bloom to it. Usually happens around six or so. Attenuate it if volume is an issue. Great amplifier and the clean channel is at least to me very good. One caveat, hard to balance the clean and dirty channels, and the chrome panel is hard to see. I use it as a single channel amp and use the guitar volume. Smidge of delay in the loop and it is glorious......

    I seen this method also on some slash inspired videos on RUclips. Many guys swear by it. Using the lead master as the vol. I have the mini jube and to me personally there is not that much difference although I play on my bedroom max at 2 to that is definitely impactful on my experience 😅
    At least now I know I have a plexi and a jube using it this way. That clean channel cranked sounds amazing 🤘🏻

      @TheGuitarNerdShow  2 месяца назад

      I’ll be honest, I was totally surprised how it sounded when I jacked that MV up. The overall volume didn’t change, but the actual tone became so much more apparent!
      I’ll be honest, having the SV20 as well as the SC20 - I believe the gains that are had by cranking the master would be largely negated by the 29 watt power max of the studio series. I say this because that headroom that is tapped into just does not exist in the 20 watt offerings.

    • @chocolatecookie8571

      I had the Slash amp and this was in the time there was no RUclips. I experimented myself and discoverd that playing high gain with the Master Volume at 10 100watt setting gave me that roar and power. I could even use that setting for bedroom level microlevelling the lead volume with a 4x12 cab. But looking back perhaps 10 is a bit overdue. Maybe the sweet spot is at 3 or 4 o clock.

    There's a noticeable difference between the 2 settings. I much preferred the JB settings. It sounded more organic to me. "Organic" is a word I tend to use a lot when describing certain amp tones which to me partially means, uncolored. I think that by turning up the master volume, you're getting the power tubes more involved in the sound. The other way, you're using more of the preamp section which, I believe on a Silver Jubilee, includes clipping diodes which colors the tone. I have an '89 JCM 800 2210 which utilizes clipping diodes like a Silver Jubilee and to keep that coloration to a minimum, I set the master volume high and the preamp (gain) volume as low as possible. But I'm a Plexi-guy...so...

      I will be making ToneX Captures of most or all the amps in my studio (I think I'm sitting at 15 or 15 amps). I will probably do captures for Kemper and Quad Cortex first as those use their own hardware for the capture process - ToneX uses your computer & I'm on a Mac - ToneX prefers to see an NVidia graphics card. So the hope is to sell some capture packs & hopefully pick up a suitable PC so I can get cracking on ToneX

    Great video! (Just liked and subscribed, FYI!!)
    I have an ‘82 JCM 800 2x12 combo, and have messed around with a similar approach, though I have to keep the volume down most of the time due to where I live. Curious about one thing, with the master on 10, and using the preamp as the volume/gain control, will this eat up the power tubes faster than having the preamp cranked, and master set lower???

    • @TheGuitarNerdShow
      @TheGuitarNerdShow  2 месяца назад

      I think, but am not sure, that if the volume is similar to how you’d run it without maxing the master, tube life would be about the same.

    Do the power tubes work harder with the master on full? Even at lower volumes?

    • @BradPham
      @BradPham 2 месяца назад

      My understanding is that at full master volume the power tubes are running at 100% all the time. You'll be getting the most headroom you can get out of that amp.

    • @ANWEsuigeneris
      @ANWEsuigeneris 2 месяца назад

      @@BradPhamok. I’ve heard that the volume from the preamp is also needed to get the power tubes working on 100%.
      While a master volume at 10 activates the presence part of the circuit. Does it still mean that the tubes are working 100% if you don’t slso dime the preamp?

    • @TheGuitarNerdShow
      @TheGuitarNerdShow  2 месяца назад +2

      I think how hard the power tubes are working is dependent on how much actual volume they're pushing but I could be wrong. I think your comment below is correct.

    low mids are what give you that thick "throaty" lead tone. Sure, it makes Rythm a bit boxy sounding, so are you mostly playing lead or are you Nile Rogers?

    • @TheGuitarNerdShow
      @TheGuitarNerdShow  2 месяца назад

      LOL, Neither. Both. Sometimes?
      I think it depends on what amp you're putting it through. With this amp, and most Marshalls, some of those frequencies can tend to be over-emphasized, pulling 200Hz down doesn't neuter it, just brings it in line with the rest of the spectrum. But it's all a matter of opinion/taste. EVH preferred it this way. Steve Vai, on the other hand, has an abundance of low mids in his sound. It's all in what you're looking for.
      Thanks again for watching!

    Honestly I think every Marshall has to be on 10. I heard someone say once that Marshalls have two useful settings. "Ten and Off". That about sums up my experience with them as well. Cranked I think they're amazing but I don't really find them useful outside of that context. I don't gig anymore but I imagine these days if you try to take a cranked Marshall to a gig you will promptly be asked to turn down or leave. I'd leave. LOL!

    • @TheGuitarNerdShow
      @TheGuitarNerdShow  2 месяца назад

      A Marshall on 10 is definitely a very unique experience, no question! I think the Jubilee does sound great at lower volumes but 10 on the master is just a whole 'nuther level of amazing!
