In my first job, I was working so hard, I finished my 8 hours of work in 5-6. My boss made me go to others and do their work at their stations. He approached once, when I was overloaded and asked me to do some extra work. I told him I was overloaded and he walked away angry. The other worker told me that is not how to handle it. Sure enough he came back and asked her to take on the extra work. She said, Sure! then he walked away and she said, I'm not going to do that work. A week later he asked her about it and she said she didn't get to it, and he thought more of her for lying to him than me for telling him the truth.
Yessir why nobody gives a shit anymore and they the intelligent ones still can’t figure out what’s wrong. Tired of it. So tired of it. My wife did this in our marriage which is getting ready to end, after 25yrs now the kids are about raised. You’re only as strong as your weakest link and I should not be punished by being my best. Funny how equality is anything but equal and has no ladders to climb. What bullshit that we don’t know and then watch there good ones leave and wonder why there is no loyalty. Damn folks not this hard to figure out.
One thing employees don't often factor in is that not all employees want to work hard. Sure the supervisor wants to avoid failure, but they can't turn everyone into an overachiever. Those who work harder and gain more experience should get raises, promotions, ans kudos from management. If that isn't forthcoming, make sure all that extra work is reflected on your resume and find a new employer who treats you right.
Had this at my old job. Supervisors on their phones in the back, counting milk for 2 hours when it takes maybe 30 minutes max, sitting in the back just to play on their phones, etc. Store manager would leave 3 hours early and leave us to be swamped due to understaffing. I ended up training employees and being a supervisor because of the ones who couldn’t be bothered to do their actual job 🤦🏻♂️ So glad to be gone from that hole. I don’t mind working hard if other people will help! That’s a team.
Don't tattle on your coworkers! Management is not your friend or ally. The goal of management is to extract as much profit from your labor as possible, and most won't care if you overwork yourself into an early grave (or just to the point of quitting). Just don't work as fast. Take your time and do your job right, but don't rush. Having said that, don't unnecessarily sandbag work. If your manager gives you a project with a 5 day timeline but you know you can do it in a day, tell your manager that Project Management is dramatically overbudgeting tasks. Fix the problem with the timeline, don't attack your coworkers.
This is correct. Any attempt to tell management about being overworked or others productivity shortfalls will only paint a target on your back. If they already know you’re the hard worker they actively punish only you for not doing your coworkers jobs. Just do your work and try to fly under the radar.
Here is an exception; when a coworker attacks you for your efficiency, all bets are off. They burned the bridge, it's not your responsibility to protect them
this video sums up my career. I did try most of what you said, and it didnt work for me. they did do a presentation on how to manage and prioritize an increasing workload so you can be a productive member of a team.
The hard worker will sometimes be denied a promotion, while instead, a supervisor will promote a poor worker off of his or her hands. The mindset is, "Why would I want to promote a hard worker and lose them?"
I have spoken up but just get you have more than enough time. I work landscaping and the hrder i work the more i get piled on . I gave up speaking up saying i dont have enough time. I have been here almost 8 years and this has been going on for the whole time with different supervisors . I'm just thinking loyalty and hard work is not rewarded. As min wage goes up i dont have my income go up and it iant wven worth it anymore. Thank you for letring me vent.
some of the things I did which I now regret 1. when I was done a task I would present it so I could get the next task my coworker use to finish stuff disappear and then at the end of the day he would announce he was done 2. when I didnt have assignment I would ask for assignments 3. a couple of times I stopped by to pick up my check or finish a task only to get roped in to help a coworker etc 4. i trained and created training documentation to help the new hires this was mentioned on my par but beyond that it meant nothing to the organization and it gave my competition a leg up I sat next to a guy who would come in with a briefcase open it take out his novel and start reading it if someone came towards him he could put it back into his briefcase I dont want to be that guy but since things I did werent appreciated why do them
The real question is why do good employees get given more work but bad employees get praised when they do any work. I’ve seen this and I work with this. The person that does very minimal work gets all the praise and attention when they try to do something with a little more effort than they normally give, but I feel like I’m in a position where I’m forced by the boss to keep putting in that high effort that I always put in because if I don’t, I get written up for it for poor performance or less quality or simply not completing tasks and that’s also considering that I have about three employees worth of tasks that I do because I work night shift and the lazy ass people during the day Don’t do nearly as much as me and I’m busting my ass while these people stand around and shuffle a deck of cards or don’t do anything and normally there’s an overlap where I come in and everyone still there for about an hour and a half or so before going home and stay until midmorning and I’m frosting my ass cause I’m doing the job by myself when there’s eight people working during the day and not only that I’m forced to clean up after them because my boss she said it’s night shift job to clean up after everybody and I tried telling her that she’s promoting lazinessin the workplace and she told me that she will end my career if I keep acting up like that
In my case, I prefer taking all the projects that I can handle otherwise boredom will drive me crazy, I intentionally take different routes to do my projects and continue learning and improving my skills(I'm in a creative field), playing lazy and being glued to my phone in a cubicle is not more fun, at least for me. Personally, I don't care how much the others make or do as long as I feel I'm getting a fair salary. If the experience and work is notoriously getting better and benefits the company it should be rewarded in some way, otherwise the best will start looking for the next chapter outside the company/role...
I agree with most of what you said, but there is also one problem that is often ignored: not everyone is good at the same type of tasks. For example, if you have a colleague that has ADHD, they might have a hard time focusing on long and boring tasks but would get excited and hyperfocused on a new challenge. If you feel like some coworkers are lagging behind, maybe it would be worthwhile to discuss with them (or have your manager discuss with them) what tasks they would be better at and what causes them trouble so that issues can be fixed or tasks can be reassigned to people who's strengths match it better. Forcing everyone into the same mold doesn't usually end with good results.
Yeah that is a great addition. As someone with ADHD, I spend wayyy too many hours on some projects and then ignore other tasks that I don’t want to do. But it balances if I can work overtime on things I hyperfixate on. Thanks for the comment!
I disagree with you. There needs to be a baseline expectation that needs to be met. While everyone can be different, taking 3 hours to do what everyone else can do in 1 is unacceptable
The management where I work are bunch of smartass. Instead of divide the work equally, they send all the other guys to other branch and help them out while leaving me the rest alone. Good jobs.
And even worse then will add on more saying "Lets See How Much More We Can Get Done". And if you should have a bad day and no get as much as you usual do YOU are the villan, lazy bum

💯 find a new employer who will treat you right.

@@dreamcream3738 Well, yeah. If a coworker proves themselves to not be an ally, then you are under no obligation to defend them.

I understand it. The supervisor wants the work to get done. It's easier to convince a hard worker to do more than to convince a slacker to work.
Depends on the work
If the "slacker" got a work you should for one person plan 2 weeks is the "slacker" lazy needing a week
My employer allows poor performing employees to go unchecked while my employer wants to gaslight me with small criticisms.

All boundaries will do as label you as “not a team player”
This has always been my experience at work and even in my family!
Im getting the majority of the work and also getting paid less! Awesome having no senority.

In addition to consistently pulling the highest workload (Pareto, hello...) you get sabotaged by those who have time to sit around talking.
Some people don’t mind working more.. Depends who you are
