    Worth, especially in this context, is a subjective value. If your current setup is doing everything you're asking of it, it's hard to argue that it's "worth" it to buy a new router

    I am a gamer, for decades, but I don't do online gaming so I don't *need* a gaming router. However, when I needed to replace my old mesh system-which to be fair was still getting me a fairly consistent 400 or so Mbps but was having trouble reaching an exterior camera-I got Asus' GT6 gaming mesh router system. It reaches the outside camera *and* has been getting me a consistent 500-600 Mbps throughout the house *and* they look super cool. (I don't use any prioritization settings.)

      Sorry I disagree, had one in the past and it lasted a few days, so had to go back to the shop, and weighted next to nothing, so it was cheap and nasty like ASUS products mainly are.
      It's the only one I have ever had including the ones with ISP contracts that has ever failed on me in the last 30 years.

    You genuine technical nerds may laugh, but I AM impressed with the first 3 characteristics Liron cited for the example Router: 8 "tentacle like" antennae, fancy LEDs, bizarre appearance, etc. There is an old adage: perception is REALITY ( especially if you don't know better). My newly purchased hyped-up router might not actually be as fast as advertised - but I have bought that perception - hook line and sinker ! And therefore : I am a satisfied customer !

    Its worth it for traffic throttling and other features and less resets. And more tweaking of settings that can reduce headaches with a normal router. But unless your normal router has a lot of load it won't make much if any difference in isp speeds.
    I own and run a Asus 1909p 802.11ac Gaming router just for those purposes. Its the best i've owned (though its out of date to some extent) I only paid $45 and change for it as it was about $91 and half off at a value world when i found it) So i'd call my investment well worth the money spent.

    Wow, but, lately, every single ASUS product I have purchased has been in failure mode after about 1 week after the warranty period, then you have to ship back, and then they want more to fix it than you paid. Several great YT channels have commented on ASUS quality, yes, the specs sound great, but how long is it going to last vs how much does it cost. Look and check out reviews on how long and the quality of the build.

    • @MrPir84free
      @MrPir84free 2 месяца назад

      Depends upon the age; if more than a few years old, a decent tablet like a Samsung Tab S6 Lite is $185 to $300, nets you likely a better wifi, maybe a better screen and a better option overall. It's a choice. Similar to choosing to, or not, dumping $5K into a 25 year old vehicle.. Temper the equation by how much did you pay for it when it was new. Now, if your tablet is a tablet with a sim card , those are more expensive and might be worth fixing.

      At the bottom right of the youtube video screen, there's a gear icon. Click it, it should pop up a menu. From the menu, click Quality, then select a higher quality like 1080P. If it plays at 1080P and looks better, then great. if it goes back to a lower quality setting, you may have an issue with your router.
      Routers are electronic devices, and as such, can die, or worse, behave badly after getting hit by a surge or similar issue; Prior to swapping out the router, you might be able to log into your router and reset everything back to factory defaults and then reconfigure, but I'd reset back to defaults and see if that works; I assume you are not on DSL or similar service. You probably should take a screenshot of your router WAN settings prior to resetting the router back to defaults.
      I've had a few modems and routers die over time; worst thing is when it does not quite die, but it never works right; reset to defaults and if you can buy a new router that is arguably better. Buy once, cry once.

      I'm glad I no longer live in an apartment in a city anymore. If you are concerned about the radiation from one device, well, mount it high on the wall or on top of a cabinet.. Many of these routers can also be set to run their radios at 25, 50, 75 and 100% power. You could even turn off the wifi features and run just wire..
      Believe it or not, here in the USA, the FCC has a limit on what channels can be used at what power level; fairly sure that no manufacturer sells wifi routers that exceed the allowed output.
