The security guard that video-bombed you was hilarious! Cool boat and video, have fun guys! I'm a smoker trying to quit, but If I smoked onboard, I would have gone to the stern.
There are actually three different thumbnails in an A/B test for this one currently. There is one of the boat, one of Jen on the dive deck looking happy in a skinsuit, and one of her looking happy in a bikini on the dive deck. Science! Also family and friends all disagreed on which one they liked better
She has far too innocent a mind. I commented to her about how the open gate in the dinning area could kill someone while we were underway. Trip, fall off, etc and you'd be stranded alone in open water at night with no floatation or ability to attract attention and probably wouldn't even be missed until the next morning.
Yeah those sails look skimpy but picturesque, like a bikini I suppose. Still, they'd definitely propel the boat in the event of double engine failure. The problem with sailing a dead two-banger boat is apparently the steering. The two engines aren't just for backup, but make steering very easy. Also sometimes both engines can die simultaneously if their systems aren't kept completely separate (like dipping into the same gas tank). My friend Keith, his sister drowned along that coast in the sixties when it was deserted and their boat sank. But I'm more uneasy about the fire. It's hard to shake the image of that helicopter and that other boat burning as you set off on this adventure. Grim auguries. But nothing holds you two back.
We are very aware and cautious on the safety thing. I was just reading about one of the incidents in the red sea where people were stuck in an air bubble in the boat. One of the couples that died were experienced and had reportedly done extensive research on boat safety, made a decision, and then been switched to another boat at the last minute. The new boat also apparently had good reviews but there you go. Also it wasn't readily apparent that some of the safety equipment was lacking until something happened. It is a major concern considering how hard it is to get actual reliable information about the boat an operation until you're out there. I have horror stories from Thailand when I was out there for my DM
@ Well it's probably no worse than crossing Kansas without a pickup truck but my imagination does run a little wild. The father of my friend Keith Rascher was offered $80,000 for the wild story of their missionary boat sinking and the four surviving members of the family gradually finding each other on different islands thereabouts. Circa 1970. Keith ended up in the CIA. When he was a teenager growing up in Irian, as West Papua used to be called, he would do something that I bet you and Jen could actually survive, given your background, although he did spend a lot of time skin diving/hunting with home-made spear guns. Anyway, he would swim out in the evening till he couldn't see the land, and just float out there with the stars all night. Come back in the morning. I tried keeping up with him in the skin diving department and ended up injuring my ear and it never was quite right after. You're a little old for the CIA but to be honest if you'd done some of your adventures younger and that combined with your IT skill, well, they would have noticed you, is all I'm saying, even if you didn't notice them. Not that I know anything about all that anymore.

Final shot of Jen staring into the dark depths has an Apocalypse Now feel to it, under the circumstances.

@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes You've literally described the first half of the short story "The Most Dangerous Game."
