Excellent detailed informative video - from an Armchair Sailor. Love hearing your blunt honest opinions. I hope the Cat-makers listen to this. You had many compliments as well. Thank you for not making a 'bashing, egotistical' video. Now subscribed, because you're NOT interested in becoming a RUclips-channel ! I always thought an open exterior helm was not in my interest, but you put forward more facts for me to consider this. Even the open helm- cat companies don't say what you talk about ! Please keep on with more videos. Even if you talk in the background and show your boat sailing in many conditions, will be fabulous. Maybe you take out paying sailors on short trips? I'm interested, let me know, and if that's not possible, no problem. I've spent 22yr. on the ocean (as a farmer)- I miss the water.Thank you, continue posting. It's valuable to have educated, not emotional opinions posted. Cheers, Dk.
Excellent. Good balanced and objective summary. Simply put, almost all reviews DONT have to fork out their own money. Subscribed ofcourse. And looking forward to the next. Many thanks, Graham.
I liked this video. At first I thought I might not, but the way you tell the story of your journey was entertaining and seemed genuine, without any “agenda”. Look forward to hearing more about the experience.
@@en8581 thank you! I'm trying to keep it honest! Look I'm a nautitech fan, but they do have some issues like any manufacturer . I do like the fact they recognise that and are trying to change. Definitely some lessons from the buying process I'll cover honestly next. Thanks for your feedback I appreciate it
Thank’s Graham. Very Nice to hear a confirmed cat sailor on this. We are exactly in the position to choose between an O52 and a 48O. We think Nautitech miss good aftermarket offers like good solar panel/lithium équipement. We will work on that soon. We subscribed and will follow your journey. Once more, thank’s.
@@funkyphiphi interesting! I wouldn't worry about solar or lithium, if you don't want to pay factory prices there are plenty of places to have done cheaper. As I was going round world I wanted comfort of manufacturing warranty, worth to me paying a bit more for peace of mind. I'll cover that shortly. I think you should definitely sail both , sailing feel is subjective and depends on what you want. The O52 as I said seemed a bit more intense to sail to get best but would beat the nautitech downwind...space the nautitech wins no question to me, but interior quality is higher on O52. Price of course the nautitech wins hands down.... overall it will likely come down to a combination of things but definitely sail them!
apologies, I keep saying O51 I mean O52...I did look at used 51.2 , but the design is quite old and values are beginning to drop as people want the new shape, plus I think the old design whilst great and probably legendary is just too tight for space for many modern buyers, though not all of course. If you dont mind the lesser space I actually in some ways think the O51 a better buy than the 52, and now prices are coming down its attractive

Still very happy with my 18 yr old SMG50 plus. IMO: Best compromise on price, performance, safety, strength, quality, sea worthiness and movement, ease of sail (even single handed) and maintenance. Not a lot of them around though.
Some good insights there Graham, I guess also with the N48 that everything feels very familiar. I think they have done a good job evolving these designs from the 40 (or Lombard YDG has), fine tuning the concept and making use of the extra metres. Did you go for a stack pack on the new boat or in-mast?
@@katamaranscom thanks bud. They didn't offer a in mast furling option so would have been expensive, makes me think ill mention that on next video. My in mast furling on 46 has been a revelation to be fair. I think my vids on the group show little to no performance loss..... I think there might be a narket for a performance furler like elvestrom fatfurl . I went for stank pack , full Genoa ( no self tacker) and north sails ..,. Booyaa! I've noticed a little of other cat makers taking design cues from these too
Very I interesting video. I have sailed monohulls all my life, currently a First 501. She is very old now but has served her purpose and value for the money. Could it have been a Hallberg or an Oyster? I would have loved that, but my bank balance would not have. I have now given up work and retired for good. A cat would suit me but probably not brand new, again the money. Looking at the RUclips of the 44, that might be the one. I want to cover the miles on passage, not look like a three story villa on two hulls or a charter yacht. Enjoying the hands on sailing is also very important. Outremer is to near the edge for me, fast cruising is what I am looking for. Thanks for the video, food for thought.
Thank you..... by the sound of it I think you would enjoy a nautitech . My old 46 is for sale if you'd consider used, otherwise there's a very cheap 44 for sale from Neo marine. 44 is a great boat too I think . All depends on budget of course, one of the compromises we must make !
Hello Graham. We also noticed your comparison and analysis of the differences between Nautitech and Outremer. We were allowed to test drive the 52 in front of la Grande Motte. We sailed the N40 O and N46O in Croatia. Both older Boats. We are family of 3 and some friends. Currently Sailing a new Elan I43 in Greace to compare Monohull feeling.
@@felixwinter1741 thank you. I think outremer are great boats, I think the 51 is an old design now and so prices are dropping... the 52 is lovely but as I say when I sailed it I decided not for me
@@robmalcolm1965 I did, and I really liked the concept, and though I initially thought they were a bit blocky, even slightly unattractive in the flesh definitely looked better. I loved the interior, weight , design, concept etc but at the show they also had an older boat that was a year or so old and both my wife and I thought the interior and exterior materials had already aged badly so this put us off. New materials are all well and good but they must stand the test of time, and a year or so in looked like much longer to us. So gold star for effort for them but not there quite yet in my eyes. Hi Graham, thanks for your video, interesting. My wife and I live in New Zealand, we are looking at a second hand Open 40 (brand new are around NZ$1.3m!!) as it suits our requirements for coastal cruising in NZ, just wondering when Nautitech's manufacturing went downhill and when they fixed that in terms of the Open 40 build years as we don't want to buy a vessel with a bunch of build issues, are you able to advise please?
@@Garth2024 good luck! I'm not sure the 40 suffered quite as much as the 46 in terms of build, between 2020-22 I think was not a great period generally but 40 I think been ok. Make sure if you buy an older nautitech that the hulls have been done as they get a small line of osmosis bubbles on 2015-2019/20 boats where a bad filler was used .... it's not super expensive to fix but you can find details on the Facebook forum which I'd recommend you join
