Chris, this is a very old video but i just wanted to tell you that you are currently my biggest guitar influence, being a fan of Mayer, Clapton, SRV, Hendrix, Slash and Page, your style has all the players before and of course, the slide stuff of Derek Trucks. I love to watch your videos and learn your licks by ear, even if i can't grasp every note, my playing has changed a lot since watching you. Thanks for all your music, and thanks for inspiring me!
All sound beautiful. Funny how the simplest most primitive and earliest distortion circuits sound the most pleasing to me. I love it when the fuzz is fat and spitty - that's the sweet spot for me.
One of the best fuzz comparison ever made! I loved the clean/dirty amp test, and the playing was flawless. Maybe next time try to spend a bit of time showing how the ff pedals clean up, but overall this is a bloody great demo!
So I’m sitting outside watching this on my phone in Western Australia, the fuzz bit at 8:00 kicks in and a bird in a tree above me goes completely mental and tries to attack the phone. Clearly not a fan of fuzz then.
There's a photo of McCartney with a Mk1 tone bender at his feet during those sessions but John can be seen in another photo with a W.E.M pepbox so no one is quite sure as to which unit he used?. I think it's the Pepbox but it's difficult to tell what with all the production afterwards.
If you can find one, the Lovepedal White Dragon (HW version) ge FF is remarkable. It does the Rangemaster thing as well as a wonderful smooth germanium FF tone. It's perhaps his best work. They are hard to find, and not all created equal (and bloody expensive!). I got lucky with the HW "big dragon" version, only paid $190AU. I am now finding it hard to justify keeping any of my other fuzzes, even the Classic 108 Silicon. It cleans up so well, and there is a diagram you can get that lays out the settings for Rangemaster, RM into FF, FF classic, FF into clean amp (yes, it totally works with a clean amp - sounds rad into a clean Super Reverb), FF into clipping amp, etc. I can't say enough good things about this pedal.
Thanks Chris. Because of you I was looking into the Gracetone fuzz pedals since I'm here in Oz too. I swear by my Deep Trip BOG and saw that Scott Holiday had one on one of his many pedal boards. I have a Jam Pedals Fuzz Phrase but due to my 9 year old having a great dislike of it, it doesn't get much use. Strange excuse. When I do get a chance to use it, it does Manic Depression tones very well. It has a lovely cleaned up tone but is very noisy - I hope it is just a quirk of mine and not a common feature. In the meantime, it is the BOG for me and the Thorpy Fallout Cloud for another Muff/Fuzz option. Just my two cents into the world of fuzz in case anyone has had similar experiences. Much love and looking forward to seeing/hearing more of your great content.
The Fuzz Face was by far the best. The internals of it are small so just get them transplanted into a smaller diecast box and it will fit back on your pedalboard. Such a transplant is a small job for a competent person. Would probably take me 30 to 45 minutes from beginning with a blank box and the donor FF. Of course the box will be a plain grey enamel finish without graphics etc. Fortunately no-one can hear the graphics so it doesn't matter.
It would be nice to hear first your amp saturated to its sweet spot, then how your overdrive/distortion pedal pushes it up, and finally how your favorites fuzzes add to that sound.
Hello Chris, who transistors have the fuzz face of the demo? AC128 ?? What modification did they do when they fixed it? It sounds very good, similar to SM fuzz but better. Thank you!
Thanks Chris. Great demo! I just got 1st fuzz. A FFM2 with the germanium transistors. I really like the sound of that one you have there and I wish I could have one. Big difference in price for me. I guess it's going on my "wish" list. :-)
If you don't mind sharing, did you ever find out which transistors your friend replaced the originals with in your Dennis Cornell Fuzz Face? Curious if you stuck with the AC128’s. Any other repairs or mods done to yours? Loving that sound man, and chasing after it doing my research learning about these fuzz's and different transistors :). Cheers!!
wonderful demo! Can you tell me what is the exact type/name of the fuzz face? In the description you say that it is a Cornell FF but it has 'Dallas Arbiter' on the label...
You should check out the bog fuzz pedal. It’s on Scott holidays board. It’s the band of gypsies fuzz. Maybe would work well for you in a modern setting.
I had an original Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face and it broke in the 70's so I just gave it to some bloke to have a look at....and never got it back....what price now ??? Ahggg
Is your Arbiter Fuzz Dennis Cornell a reissue from the 90's or original from the 60's? Silicon or Germanium? Sounds incredible man!! If it's original I'd imagine it was worth more than $3-400 4 years ago as they are now going for 10X that amount. Given that, hoping it is a reissue as those are still expensive but at least under $1K now in 2023 ;). Amazing sound, thank you for sharing and rock on!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥
It's a 90's reissue, I have one but I had the ac128's swapped out for a pair of genuine NKT-275s, I'm running it into a 64 Vox AC-10 and it sounds absolutely colossal!.
Hey, could you please do a lesson on the lick you play so often, its awesome.... its 5:42 - 5:46 .... you play so many kinds of that one, its killer!!! PEACE
As you know the Fuzz Face the bench mark that many judge pedals by. I have a very very old one with germanium transistors. It is picky about the battery and the only pedal I have that is on battery power. Feed it right and it will eat your leg. The Big Muff is my second favorite Fuzz . I have lots of pedals on my board and when I'm playing and singing I hit a pattern of pedals I hit. I can show you but l can't tell you.
Hello Chris !..........How can I get one of those ? I've sent a message to SM website but no reply yet . Do they still build those ? Thanks!.................Lou

Chris injects so much flavor into every single note.
that fuzz face sound incredible

That fuzz face sounds amazing!!!!
Dude, that lady in your band has a wicked voice. I’d love to hear her and you guys do some Fleetwood Mac cover stuff.
So I’m sitting outside watching this on my phone in Western Australia, the fuzz bit at 8:00 kicks in and a bird in a tree above me goes completely mental and tries to attack the phone. Clearly not a fan of fuzz then.
Haha in WA too. No bird attack though. Perhaps it was matin' season
FF for the win
AMAZING PEDAL SHOW!!!! I love to hear every note from your fingers
Best use of fuzz I have ever heard is the Fuzz bass on"Think for your self" The Beatles Rubber soul .

A big Scott mckeon fan here so I gravitate to the SM fuzz

Surprized to say i loved the tone of the Fuzz Face the most ! 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Chris,
O dont know who have better guitar sounds that you!
Your guitar sounds its the best!
Congratulations!

Check out chris cornell fuzz faces. Or fuzz face with ac123 transistors, they look the same and sound the same
You should check out the bog fuzz pedal. It’s on Scott holidays board. It’s the band of gypsies fuzz. Maybe would work well for you in a modern setting.
Also! Instead of a tube screamer with the vintage fuzz face, try a treble booster. Those were actually made to compliment each other.
I had an original Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face and it broke in the 70's so I just gave it to some bloke to have a look at....and never got it back....what price now ??? Ahggg
Amazing tone and playing as usual! Which amp and cabinet models in Guitar Rig 5 did you use?
Nice!!! I prefer use the Tube Screamer (or Blues Driver) before the fuzz.
Holy hot guitar tone!!! 8:00 .... ferocious fuzz!!
Damn, this guy is good.
Prefered all of them without the TS!

NERDOFUNK it’s a buck&evans song called screaming
8:15 awesome riff
Great playing bro
Ts808 + fuzz = 🔥
Hey dude, I have a question. In terms of pedal board placement, where do you put a fuzz? Before the boost or after?
gibbanz22 Hey man. For me, fuzz pedals are always first in the chain 🙂
TS after fuzz?
there is a note at 5:59 wich is tone porn.
solreva
6:01 was the spot for me.
you have a nice touch dude...sounds great. except the vs audio pedal, do not like it. kinda harsh...

Thanks!.................Lou
Towering fuzz sounds worthy of the doomiest of them. Love the playing on this! Tbf they all sound good
TS808 v KOT would be an awesome shootout vid. Not many of those kicking around!
Terrible hair; Great guitar player.
So I’m not the only one asking “Where did I leave the sheep shears?” 😜
