- Fuzz can be a bit of a minefield. Where do you even start?!
Disclaimer: I wanted the intro jam to have a bit of a Deep Purple feel but in retrospect, it ended up sounding a bit like a pirate metal band...apologies!

How you come up with these jams week after week is beyond me.
ikr his jams are incredible
Same
I legit think that Chris is the single best guitarist on RUclips. Your playing just hits in the right place. So inspiring. So tasteful. I'd love to see you play live sometime. Come to 🇨🇦!!
Dude! Ariel Posen is also on that list.
@@kalkidasofficial ariel is amazing, love him.
Julian Lage and Chris are the two, for me, that really do it.
Ariel Posen kicks butt too. Chris Bucks is just nuts
Posen has him in the guitar technicals but Buck just has that feel that makes your heart beat a little faster.
@@forester057 Good catch! Agree on that. Different styles, Posen's slide is also something
if anyone was wondering and didn't know the last jam is I Want You (She's So Heavy) - The Beatles
The best right hand in the business
Tim Pierce gave you some serious credos in his last vid. KUDOS
One of Hendrix’s main use of a fuzz was to set it fairly high, into a driven amp and then dial back the guitar volume to clean it up. Gives an amazing clean tone that is impossible to get straight to the amp.
yeah I always loved how you can hear the fuzzy low end in his clean tone when he digs into the strings!
that outro solo was the purest of golds
Your music channel is unique in that there is zero self-serving/self-congratulating/self-indulgent nonsense. You provide very complete, organized, and enjoyable material, and of course, you really bring it on your instrument. It’s a real pleasure. Congratulations.
"Pirate metal band" 😂 That intro blew my socks off! And they were tightly on!
Every Friday I come to RUclips looking for Friday fretworks. Every Friday I open the description and skip to each “Jam!” section. Then, once I’ve repeated them enough, I watch the whole video.
Keep doing what you do
Keith Richards said in an interview that the fuzz track on "Satisfaction" was meant to be a placeholder for some horns that he wanted to be included, but the record company in a rush to get a single out, released it with the fuzz instead of horns. Keith only found out when he heard the song on the radio. So it was a lucky "accident" that changed guitar history.
I'm a big Hendrix fan, so I love the Fuzz Face (the blue silicon transistor one), but I also have a reissue Octavio, and have read that Jimi's tech would mod the Octavio fuzz circuit and put them in Fuzz Face enclosures. I recently did the same mod to my Octavio, and it sounds amazing, when it's just in fuzz mode (minus the octave effect). Both the Fuzz Face and modded Octavio do a great job of recreating a Jimi fuzz tone. Big Muff is a great pedal too, and always on my practice pedal board. One of these days I'll get a Tone Bender, then I'll have the "set".
P.S. The outro tune. "I Want You (she's so heavy)" was the perfect choice for this subject. :)
I’ve been saving for the Ramble FX Twin Bender V3, as it just has the options I want in a Tone Bender.
I’ve used a JHF1 from 2008ish, for my Fuzz Face, even after trying a myriad of others. I just can’t get the same cleanup and feel from others, not to mention how it stacks with the OD’s I use.
If I only had one dirt pedal to use, it would be the one. I’m just so used to it.
If I had the disposable income, I’d definitely try out the new Vemuram Myriad made with Josh Smith, but it’s a $500 pedal new, and I just don’t do a Wet/Dry setup that would justify it. I got to play a buddy’s basic version(the $300 one), and it sounded excellent, so maybe I’ll try it again one day. It has a Germanium and Silicon circuits, and it’s cleanup was sweet, with all the gain as well. But every Germanium transistor Fuzz pedal I’ve owned, even with a bias knob, still get weird depending on temperature. Sometimes the bias can get it back to normal, but then it will change again the longer it’s played.
Wonder if Chris will get one of those new ones from Benson?
Always thought that track was similar to horns, fuzz guitars always have that quality
@@ciarancooling3014 Cellos are a frequent point of comparison.
A very tasteful display of the use of fuzz. Some of the magic occurs when you lower the volume knob on the guitar, especially with the Fuzz face. The jams are mesmerizing!
Exactly! I think most people just turn their guitar volume to ten and when it sounds bad, they say they hate fuzz.
Now that's a good sounding fuzz.
I never was capable to get a good sound out of this fuzz face.
The sound is in the fingers!
It IS in the fingers!
I'm not sure what Chris is playing normally, but he always has that specific dark sound, no matter what he plays. Chris Buck is not the only one with a 'signature sound', but his may be the most prominent. And I love it.
That’s she’s so heavy jam at the end.. crazy
@Chris Buck "Pirate Metal" for the win!
I always come back to this video just to listen to the insane beatles jam at the end
Holy shit. One of the best jams you’ve done that bend tapping was stupidly nice
So, you apologize for the intro jam... that I backed up and repeatedly listened to? LOL! I just discovered your channel and it's like a breath of fresh air.. ( after breathing through a mask for a year! ) 'nuff said!
you're style is beyond inspirational. amazing. Wales rocks
Thanks Chris ⚓️
Bruh that intro... and the demos... and the outro... I’m gonna go practice
I don't like Fuzzes, I don't even own one. But when you, Chris, play one, it's like gold!
My Big Muff Pi is a dust collector--with my Fender '68 Delux Rev, it is just a mush of blathering sound even at low settings. I've had it for many years--used it--or tried to, twice. Your Tone on Everything is Exquisite. No need to comment on your playing--it is obviously Divine. Stay Well.
This is excellent information, thank you. I actually purchased and returned a fuzz face in December because I couldn't get any usable tone out of it. I'm new to pedals and didn't even think of trying the things you mentioned. This is very helpful for us noobs. Thanks for that, and all the work on your videos. Your incredible playing and articulate hosting makes this one of the very best guitar channels on youtube.
Killer opening jam! My mind is blown.
Awesome playing and informative points as always Chris! Going to have a ton of fun jamming along to your jams! :)
Oh man, the Beatles outro...so sweet
That opening jam was euphoric.
Unreal! Goosebumps listening to those solos!
Rock on! You're lifting us up with those oh so tasty tones & smashing chords!!!
That intro jam is straight awesome
Hello Chris! I love watching you on Fridays. Always a great show. Cheers!
Best episode so far. Love your videos man, cheers from Brazil
this is absolutely mental! the tone in that song in the beginning is insane! great video!
Great episode! Very succinct introduction into fuzz, really great advice for newcomers to fuzz. Awesome playing... as always! Cheers.
Without the Chris Buck module, I'm out! What a great intro/overview into the fun, crazy world of fuzz. I've dallied for nearly 40 years with them and only in the last 10 or so when I eschewed my 80s roots did I star to get it. Chris is spot on, its a deep hole and can get rather overwhelming but this was a great high level idea of the origin and tone possibilities that make fuzz so unique. Well done Chris!
Nice Chris. Thanks and take care.. 👍🇦🇺
Amazing content as usual. Nice job👍🏻
For me was very comprehensive and more than a 101 class. Thanks.
Dude your playing is always inspiring to me.. thanks!
Oh man, I love it when you rock out like that!
absolutely lovely, mate.
mighty intro
All the best from Canada!
man... killler intro. the taps and strum behind the nut.. so cool
Absolut insane! Great vid!
Man, no apologies needed for turning gold into diamond.
new player here and before hearing elsewhere I came to using my fuzz with the guitar volume rolled back as I have a Deville 410 at home and have small kids, Its a special sound to my ear having that volume rolled back cleaning that sputter up and smoothing out the tone. I prefer it with my tele too over my Les Paul where I find it more difficult to deminish the wollyness. Cheers, see you again next Friday.
That feel, man. The feeeeeeeel!!!! 😳
That intro track was intense! Great playing 🤯
DUDE. That intro solo.... 🤯🔥
Killer playing! Srsly one of my favourite guitar players.. thank you Chris
Sick Intro man!
Mate !!! Wow 👍🏻🏴🤯
Excellent playing and interesting history of one of the most famous pedal effect ever made.
The most Attractive music video thumbnail ever is jimi hendrix i see him i click.
nice video Chris by the way 🎼👌
Congratulations Chris, just seen a snatch of your vid on Tim Pierce vid . Praise indeed.
Screw the content, CB just unleashes on that Tele intro jam. Fuck me...i love this kid! Keep on keeping on CB...one of a kind😁👍👍
Ahh you started out with a 15w Peavey Rage too! The perfect amp to start with because then, once you upgrade, you have the perfect point of reference for why better amps are indeed better :')
Another great video and phenomenal playing!
such a feeling and sound..amazing!!!!!
That opening jam is insane buddy 👏
Thanks Chris. A really good video which gave me some pointers. Loved the Led Zep inspired segment.
Terrific Chris, I must admit to not knowing much about the fuzz, I am now enlightened!-She's so heavy was a nice surprise
What a great solo! Big love from argentina :)
Another great FF, the usual insight and different slant but always informative. Reminds me to drag out my '78 Big Muff, brought back from the US by a band mate's Dad who was in the Navy. £45 which was a fortune then. Ran it through a Sound City 120 on a 4 x 12 HH cab, beast!!
Your phrasing is just impeccable. So so tasty I could listen to it all day.
Pirate metal, my new favourite music genre.
Chris, thanks for that great breakdown of fuzz pedals. I have been fighting the battle for quite some time now and have been through a bucket load of fuzz pedals trying to find the right one for my board setup, my amplifier choice and even the guitar/pickups I choose. Fuzz is truly an untamed animal that needs much research to come to the best conclusion for your gear and style. I myself have planted firmly on the Tone Bender style (for germanium), whereas I tried desperately to make the Fuzz Face work, but it just keeps coming out behind for me. As for non-Ge, I have gone with an Op-Amp Muff which has (in my opinion) the widest range of tonality of all of the choices of BM.
Your playing is so tasteful and well thought out that I put you in a Bonamassa class for originality and flavor.
Keep up the good fight... Your knowledge and talent is well appreciated!
Cheers!!!
When I spotted your first video (demo video of plasma pedal on Facebook), it struck me like "hey, something incredibly cool is happening here!" and the more videos I found later, the stronger the impression; truly amazing feel!
Damn best intro ever.
So a Jackson Audio commercial. Superb playing as always 🤯
Wow speechless
That last solo belongs in a museum
Chris, don't know how yo put it, but we are an absolutely killer of a player! Btw, this video was highly informative to me. Thanks and keep on rocking!
that little touch harmonic thing you did at 8:57 was so cool..if I take one thing away its to able to throw in one of those buggers every so often..damn that sounds good..
Jeeeeez louise that intro!
This is funny. I was literally checking out fuzz boxes yesterday, and here I find you made this video. I've never been a huge fan of effects so, I know nothing about them. Well, no I know about fuzz lol
Much love from New Mexico Chris hope all is well.
Intro and outro sublime and informative, concise content in-between. What's not to like?
Could listen to Chris reveal music history all day!
Freaking beast of a guitar player. Unreal 🤪
That tone though 🤯
holy shit! that is some fantastic playing,
Holy shit now THAT'S an Intro!
Playing aside, your production skills are phenomenal! The drum tracks were insanely good. Opening jam was positively stadium, with only the backdrop breaking the illusion.
A good Fuzz on a single coil neck pickup is hands down my favorite guitar sound
Amazing.
Let's buy a telly and a Fuzz pedal...
Awesome tone!!
You’ve definitely got the sauce
A la flauta, what an intro jam!
YES! The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair, an EXCELLENT Page fuzz example!
Astonishing, I want the backing track of the first jam! 😊
The year was 1986 a friend gave me a BIG MUFF the sound I got from it, confused
me. Next day, handed it back
to him and told him I couldn't use it. (Big muffin mistake!!!) :() because now I know how that pedal works so now I'm going to have to go out and buy one when I was given one for nothing😭! Chris Buck, thank you for the videos your time making these is greatly appreciated
Don't know about that Fuzz Face into a clean amp man. Mick makes it sound like a dream.
Holy Shit!
intro was killer, fucque you can play
I've never felt so informed
Nice touch of the Fab Four to round off. I’m messing about with big muff sounds in the Fractal III
👍Yup some excellent🎸handywork thank you 🇺🇸
That thumbnail is really cool
6:16 lick was incredible
