  • I have had this Bauer 4 and 1/2 8 Amp angle grinder for about 2 years now and this is my review on it. I think its a solid grinder to have around the shop especially for comfortably removing material really quickly with much less fatigue. Its one of the best grinders Harbor Freight has to offer right now.

I bought this grinder today. I don't know what it cost when you bought it but the "every day" price is now $39.99. I paid the extra $11.99 for the 2 year warranty so I've got about $55 in it including tax. Mine didn't come with a grinding wheel or extra brushes. When you turn the box over, it clearly states what's included AND "grinding and cutoff accessories sold separately", that's not a big deal for me since I already have all of the accessories and, if the brushes wear out, I'm sure it'll happen well before the 2 years is up. With that said, I have MANY Harbor Freight corded power tools and have had no issues of any kind with any of them-maybe I'm just lucky that way lol! I also agree with you saying that some rubber overmold would be nice but, like you, I can live without it.

Thanks for the comment. The brushes are pretty generic and would be easy to find even if it is after the two years.

This grinder with a nice affordable disc or flapper it blows the big brands away.

Have you heard if the 7 amp grinder is any good?

what's different in Hercules one and why is rat tail 8amp 500 less rpm than same paddle model?

The Hercules one is a much bigger and higher powered grinder. I don't have the paddle model and have never used it.

Do you think the Bauer ($39.99) is just as good compared to its Hercules ($44.99) counterpart? Is the Hercules worth the $5 extra dollars in your opinion? I know the Bauer has that 1 extra amp, but is Hercules made with sturdier materials?

I believe the price difference is made up with higher quality components. The Hercules will likely perform the same for the most part, but will probably last longer than the Bauer. I really couldn’t say for sure though, I have every Bauer or Hercules angle grinder I have ever bought still in good working order.

hmm... idk what is on the shelves next to you grinding anything flammable?

Hmm… Full synthetic oil in an enclosed container that won’t hardly even light up with an open flame on it without being heated up significantly.
Admittedly, I just didn’t realize it was there while grinding. That being said, all my oil containers are now in an enclosed steel cabinet.
