It's only $119 for the bare tool and you'll be able to pick one up from the @HomeDepot in February 2021.

I use the Milwaukee Fuel angle grinder frequently at work with an 8Ah and 12Ah high output batteries. This Ryobi honestly put in pretty good performance. I can tell how much you are stressing the tool with the pressure and speed of the cuts and grinding and can't say my Milwaukee does much better in similar situations. I just picked up the Ryobi you used for use at home and for non professional (maybe even light pro) work I think the Ryobi is more than adequate. Home Depot right now has this grinder with a 4Ah high output battery for $119.

I have the corded Ryobi grinder and bought the previous brushless One+ grinder (refurb from Direct Tools - $59!)
The cordless is less powerful but great for those remote or quick jobs where you don't want to get the cords out. I like the paddle switch though on this new one over the unergonomic slide switch, especially when the overload protection cuts in. Other reviewers complain about the overly sensitive protection, but I've had no issues by letting the tool do the work and not forcing it.

Good review Tim, I'm glad you pushed it. The 6Ah battery does have a thermal cut-out. You didn't mention it, but I was glad to see that this is actually an HP tool with the extra contacts. The plastic add-on guard is a joke and I wish the grinder had a drop sensor! You young fellows don't need a light, but us older guys sure do appreciate one. Still seems like a nice unit though.

It's a pretty decent grinder I bought one two weeks ago. Realistically I don't use it often since it's only for Last Resort use cases and so far it's worked great.

I just bought it today for my welding program and I just saw what you said about using it for welding, damn.
I use tools heavily and wherever I have electric I use corded power tools (for the heavy electric consuming tools). For the situations that you don't have an electric hookup Ryobi is the best bang for the buck in my opinion. I use a corded grinder that was cheap and is probably better than 20 years old and it's a better grinder than the new battery stuff. To be fair I don't get people that use cordless, heavy electric consuming tools when they have a power source. I did buy this grinder for a no power situation and it's great for that.
Not everyone can afford two of the same tool. I like the battery tools because running 100' power cord to my shed workshop isn't convenient. In my area, running electricity to accessory buildings is against code, and therefore not covered by insurance.

I also am a fan of the pattle switch feature. I find it keeps the operator "plugged-into" what he's doing. Ryobi batteries do have a temperature cut-out as well as the tools have a temperature cut-out which I think you already knew.
Cutting through 7"×2"×1/4"(or 8×3, I couldn't tell.) C-Channel isn't an easy task, especially for a cordless grinder?!!!
I would definitely recommend nothing smaller than the 6Ah HP battery for this tool.

As a welder when you're in a different areas and you need a grinder this really does come in hand it gets the job done and the paddle shift makes it easier.
Cuz there are size I couldn't use my corded ankle graders cuz I didn't have enough sensor cord and I was in a tight space or areas as a welder
metal shops do use them, just they dont depend on them for all day work. You have an install or some thing quick or remote you will use them a lot.

Does this shut off? If you use it too much? I have r18ag7. And it shuts off and need a cool down to use it again. I hate it!.

My brushless doesn’t work anywhere as good as this demo. It doesn’t cut through a 4 mm screw without cutting out 4 times, it must be faulty.

These tools are good for light to medium tasks, they are really not meant for heavy demanding power draining jobs, thats when corded tools shine ! they are great for the minimal less demanding job around the house or on job, thats it....
I definitely think ryobi has come a long way with the new hp tools I hope they venture off into other tools like milwaukee because they do make good stuff for diy people I would like to see some mechanic tools from them but on another note where did you get that clamp at
Couldn’t agree with you more!!! With the newer technology out some of the less desirable tool makers( nothing against Ryobi” I love ‘em myself!) are getting better, more reliable, and affordable for you average person in the market for tools men/women!
DeWalt's (I know Stanley owns them) Craftsman mid tier line must be pulling a lot of customers away from the Milwaukee's budget line of Ryobi. These new Ryobi are definitely mid tier tools.
A lot of dewalt and some Milwaukee stuff is only $20-30 more. I think that’s the problem.

@@minnesotaman3 tool price is absolutely a problem along with batteries. Dewalt has 2 packs of 6.0s for like $130 a lot.
Ryobi isn’t a “budget line from Milwaukee”, it’s a brand of tools made by t.t.i, the parent company of both Milwaukee and Ryobi, Ridgid as well.
Nice job on the review! Personally do not like Ryobi. But Ryobi is strating to look a lot like Milwaukee which is of course not surprising given the common owner.

Great price, but I think you guys should do drop/endurance/durability tests. There's more to power tools than just performance.
When the manufacturer brags about how far their tools can be dropped, then we'll do some testing. It's a little tough when we have just one tool to test with. Great point. Thanks for watching.

No power tool manufacturer brags about drop height, but they do brag about durability, and one of many ways to test real world durability is a drop test, at say 4', multiple times, as it's something that's likely to be encountered over the life of the tool.
Just sayin.
Obviously, such tests and comparisons would need to be done after the performance testing.

What I dislike is the tool to change the disc keep falling from the handle. Other than that I am happy with it.

Thanks a lot. We understand your frustration on losing the spanner wrench. However, if you remove the battery, press the spindle lock, then just grab the wheel (disc) with your hand and loosen. Do the same to tighten. This is how the majority of Pros remove the wheels on their grinders. No tools needed. ;). Thanks for watching.

Nice review going to get one but been able to stop a grinder with the the pressure you put in wouldn’t stop me buying it I can stop any grinder if I want and that’s ari or 110v 32amp up to 9” let the tool do the work don’t be a tool
I use grinders daily (pipefitter/welder) and I HATE paddles. I like the push buttons that are on the side like the makita. I use Metabo 6" corded at work though. I had a dewalt flex volt and it wasn't bad for little stuff. Love my makita for home projects though this looks OK for diy.
I know there are a lot of users who like the slide-lock switches, but I'd really rather have a paddle. Metabo makes some great grinders...probably the best in many areas. Makita has some nice grinders as well. I feel like the DeWalt DCG418 FlexVolt is probably the best cordless grinder available, but others probably disagree. This Ryobi is impressive for the price. As well I got the 6 hour high performance battery for that because it is high demand I never really thought about that until you said that so I'm gonna definitely used my 6 hour high performance I've got all high performance batteries though save a couple or regular but they're all brand new but 90% are high performance I recommend that as well

Looks like it cuts better than the first brushless 125 mm model ,that was junk ,the overload cut out pissed a lot of people off .Btw I have the brushed 115 mm model and it's great, doesn't cut out and the trigger switch is my favorite.

I just bought a robyi angle grinder ,and it just keeps cutting out on light steel .was not satisfied went back and got my refund.
My super old blue AG402 grinder crapped out, possibly just need a new switch. I need this new grinder.

I'm still using the Cag180 first gen green with the rotating battery...I love that feature and can't stand the way the new ones all have the battery facing down and in the way...
A rotating battery makes total sense, but it does increase cost and adds multiple points of failure. I'm not stating this is why they didn't add this feature, but I'm assuming. This grinder is pretty impressive for the price. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@Shoptoolreviews I was really hoping to see the rotating handle as well. I have an old corded Ryobi angle grinder with a rotating handle have had zero reliability issues with the handle. It's an awesome feature, similar to when you moved the side handle from the side of the grinder to the top. At least the used a paddle switch this time, I hate slide switches on grinders.
@@Shoptoolreviews There are no additional contacts or failure points, it just rotates 270 degrees and twists/flexes some silicone wires on the inside. This was literally the cheapest grinder at that time, so I doubt the cost addition was high. Mine is 10 years old and has been great.
Even if they didn't utilise that feature on the new grinder, why did they orient the battery down and not turn it 90 degrees?

Cordless grinders are for moving around to do small jobs, not for cutting thick metal. Or even thin metal. The batteries die quickly. No cordless tools are as good as corded. Hilti comes close.

I'll never buy a grinder with a slide switch on the top unless it stays in the stand, I like my tools not running across the garage if I drop them while using them somehow.
I hear Ryobi is used as a test bed for new ideas before TTI move them to their flagship products. I wonder how long it will be before we see the tool less disk change on Milwaukee grinders

Looks crazy short for a normal angle grinder, I'd be concerned with it walking especially if you need to change your grip and using a stone wheel.

Fast forwarding the tool in action isn't helpful. Show more of the tool eating at speed with audio. A tool like this will be used for doing work in field such as junk yard and or for a tech in a shop to cut off a bolt or two here and there as opposed to grabbing the pnumatic cutoff tool.

I had a lot of old pipes and rebar to cut up and from what I read ruclips.net/user/postUgkxPDBfLu68o58Aw85O_J-zIFfjJARBhp-3 this would be the tool for the job. Since I had never used one, I watched a couple of youtube videos and I'm so glad I did. Some really good safety tips, which I followed, and this tool did a splendid job. One good thing to know is the weight of the tool puts just about the right amount of pressure on the metal I was cutting, so I didn't have to use a lot of pressure, which is more likely to jam the tool. It made fast work of my job.

Who here uses that silly extra guard? They started this safely rubbish with piller drills, the guard is bloody dangerous because you can't see what you're doing. Not seen one fitted in industry, tossed my grinder guard for cutting straight away, just the normal one for me. Like your man isn't using it either.

Nah I'm kidding. I own the same grinder (model - PBLAG01) and it's a beast. It's a typical 4½" battery grinder, sucks up those batteries like shot glasses, but mighty powerful. Especially for a Ryobi, this one has some ass behind it and gets the job done (long as you have the sacrificial 18v). They're really closing the distance between them and the upper level of power tools like Milwaukee's offerings.
TIM from Canada I want to know why your Ryobi brand is not got into tough cases everyone else has them Milwaukee Dewalt I think rigid A lot of people have them you seem to be wanting to get into the pro market tool but Ryobi is not that good of a tool to be going into this market... The only good thing about the Ryobi two is all batteries fit all tools..
Not like Milwaukee wear one tool has a couple batteries that are different same thing with the Walt same thing with Dewalt and rigid these companies have different batteries that are totally different from the tools
