Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
The air is getting hotter
There’s a rumbling in the skies
I’ve been wading through the high muddy water
With the heat rising in my eyes
Every day your memory grows dimmer
It doesn’t haunt me like it did before
I’ve been walking through the middle of nowhere
Trying to get to heaven before they close the door
[Verse 2]
When I was in Missouri
They would not let me be
I had to leave there in a hurry
I only saw what they let me see
You broke a heart that loved you
Now you can seal up the book and not write anymore
I’ve been walking that lonesome valley
Trying to get to heaven before they close the door
[Verse 3]
People on the platforms
Waiting for the trains
I can hear their hearts a-beatin’
Like pendulums swinging on chains
When you think that you've lost everything
You find out you can always lose a little more
I’m just going down the road feeling bad
Trying to get to heaven before they close the door
[Verse 4]
I’m going down the river
Down to New Orleans
They tell me everything is gonna be all right
But I don’t know what “all right” even means
I was riding in a buggy with Miss Mary-Jane
Miss Mary-Jane got a house in Baltimore
I been all around the world, boys
Now I’m trying to get to heaven before they close the door
[Verse 5]
Gonna sleep down in the parlor
And relive my dreams
I’ll close my eyes and I wonder
If everything is as hollow as it seems
Some trains don't pull no gamblers
No midnight ramblers like they did before
I been to Sugar Town, I shook the sugar down
Now I’m trying to get to heaven before they close the door
About David Bowie:
David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie at 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

I finally started listening to bowie last year, can't stop listening to him. Just an amazing musician, It's never too late to enjoy his music.. Got to heaven too soon.
Where did you start and where did you go from there?
I ALMOST ENVY YOU , WHAT A JOURNEY YOU HAVE IN STORE
@@butMydesign Ziggy stardust, worked my way up to his 90's stuff after listening to all the mega popular ones like blackstar low heroes. I really like earthling and hallo spaceboy right now, the next day is also very good. of course all the 70's stuff are amazing too, and let's dance is good too.
Indeed he is well creative in his prime, may he rest in peace.
@@shalomer Love his 90s stuff, those two albums especially. I think latter-day Bowie is very underrated compared to his 70s and 80s output.
I miss this man with all my heart
Me too. I didn't realize how great he was until it was too late. Thank God for video.
And me, great song tho.
Love and peace to everyone at this point in time. ✌🤝🙏🇬🇧🏳️🌈🙏🤝✌
Yeah I do too! I have a hard time navigating this world without him
I know what you mean it doesn't seem right. ✌✌
Amen 🙏🏾
Five years.... feels like five hundred 😞 you’re missed dearly.
Five years, what a surprise
It was a sweet thing...
I'm 65 and have been listening to Bowie since the beginning. Of all the music heroes of mine that are dead, I miss him the most. There is a hole that will never be filled.
😢
I was born in 2002 but was watching him in the labyrinth from 2 years old and I felt the same when he passed. It still hurts
I totally feel the same way. He's been with me through all my late teen/adult life. Many mems. I have that same hole in my heart and soul that cannot be filled. My 2 roommates think I am obsessed with Bowie. I just miss him and play him everyday. As you say, I cannot seem to fill that void. I really miss him and cannot believe he is really gone.
Yeah I get you, but I think it’s important to remember that the music and art he made carries on and left an important impact on the world and on many people. I just turned 16 today and I grew up with Bowie’s music and love him, and many generations to come will love him as well. Art can never die even though people do.
@@Niko-qc8uw Very well said. Totally agree with you.
My best Artist for all the time ❤️ we miss you
Mine too😎
same here.
Sorely missed.
And me ☹️
@@boochicky Indeed. To put it mildly.
It's hard living in a world without David Bowie, but moments like this help ⚡❤
👍👍👍❤️❤️
Agreed
You are NOT living in a realm without him, not anybody else. He IS here around, but on another frequency, thus you can't perceive him. By our own eyes, we catch only the minimum of 0,3 - 0,9 of frequency, Just imaging the moment when we will be able to capture the wider range of frequency, by the application of gadgets we are constructing right now! Hence - we will be able to communicate with ANYBODY. I vouch you that.
There will never be another artist like Bowie. Musical chameleon, something for everyone in his discography. Rest In Peace and thank you for the soundtrack for anything and everything!
Sound track to our lives x
He was trying to get to Heaven and he's there now 😇🕊
Not without Jesus Christ...Sadly One will never really know in this life..One can only hope David did..
@@briancornish1296 he has his own heaven.
I think he has a much more beautiful, real and important place to be and that's in our "hearts" and memories.
When we listen to him he lives.
when we talk about/ discuss him, as here, he lives.
He doesn't need now or ever to be turned into something or someone he wasn't.
He wasn't Christian, he had a Buddhist burial/ funeral.
Let's miss him and wish he hadn't died so ridiculously, unfairly early but not change him or wish him to fit in with our own vision or version of what/ who he was.
Let's not put "magic" into his "eternity" let's make the fact he lived the length of time he did its own magic.
I see no point to invent or assume more than the tiny possibility of his existence we can know.
Like others I miss him being in the world more than is reasonable or sensible, especially as I never knew him, met him or even saw him live.
I've been listening to his music since I was 14/ 15 I'm now in my early 50's.
The loss I feel at his death is massive and at times like this almost too much to comprehend.
@@herbieshine1312 The "Art" or Choice of ones destination is a Universal Freedom given by the Divine Artist Himself who created it all for you and I to freely enjoy. The Divine allowed David ,like all of his creation, to exercise his artistic "choice" down the "Eternal Road" of Infinitive destination Wether that be of Truth or Error.
@@briancornish1296 What a boorish, unnecessary and just plain boring comment. This kind of stupidity gives Jesus a bad name.
Wasn’t expecting this notification
But what a nice surprise for 2021.
Bowie was larger than life.
Turns out he's larger than death too.
★♥
Wow .I never thought of it that way
Very Well Said. Beautiful.
Never been religious, even if I have my personal spirituality, just as David Bowie. But I am absolutely sure that I will meet him someday, somewhere.
So I miss him, but I am also waiting.
So long, starman
I dreamt of him we met in Dreamworld fantastic
@@karenbolton9526 it happened several times to me. The funniest was the time that I dreamt about a struggling Bowie who was talking to me about sentimental problems while we were drinking beer and playing billiard in a smoky old pub...just crazy.
@@thinice6080 Maybe it was an astral projection
@@luciananascimento2972 I always felt people like Bowie closer to me than my own parents. So it could make sense, who knows!
i dreamed we met in an airport and took a stroll there, having a leisurely discussion. He was wearing a sort of pale tan suit and a green scarf, I think. We stopped at a balcony and pushed a boulder with some effort over the edge, watching curiously as it crushed a sports car below. It was a wonderfully real-feeling consoling but not emotional dream, it finished for me a stretch of grieving him and others 💕

We miss you, Starman 🥺❤
Bob Dylan’s words + David Bowie’s voice? Yes please. Very touching to hear Bowie sing this now that we’ve lost him.
The best combo.no 💐Dylan/Bowie🌻
We miss u bowie 🥺🤍
HOW IS HE STILL GIVING US GEMS AFTER HIS DEATH

Greatest male solo artist to ever have been part of this world.

R.I.P. David Bowie you are in heaven now your music keeps me going in these uncertain and scary times
❤💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯.........................forever and ever...hi David!!!🌹🌹🌹
There's a lyric from Bowie's "Thursday's Child" that goes "maybe I'm born right out of my time". David Bowie was a man, an artist, of the future. And we all get to listen to and love his beautiful music right now. What an extraordinary legacy.
This world will always utterly miss and need this magnificent soul.
Beautiful version of bowie. He's a genius and a complete musician.
Hope he is there making his awesome concerts
I miss him so much.
"We still loving u"
The one and only irreplaceable David Bowie. ✨
David you are a Star in Heaven.
When I was young my dad wish play Bowie in the car and I loved his music I then kind of left. I can back in 2020 and lived him and little did I know he would become my most favoured musician ever rock on Bowie👨🎤
Hello dear friend from heaven, nice song and well creative indeed. Happy belated birthday david bowie and rest in peace dear friend. Xoxo ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😘💖 princess

I miss him so badly! 😥
Happy birthday to you, Spaceboy! R.I.P DAVID BOWIE ROCK LEGEND AND ICON! We miss you so much. He was constantly innovative, and so unique and original.
The door `NEVER` closes to Heaven - Bowwie
An unexpected, pleasing surprise.
not only he got to heaven, he took the seat beside god
Wow
Wrong! He's no where near God
Bowie Forever ❤
I cherish the moment that I got to walk up and say hello to him and exchange a few words.. He had a lovely smile and was so kind to his fans.
The best voice in heaven belong to this amazing man we love him so much♥️♥️♥️😥😥😥
Looks like he made it before they closed the door.Never heard this before, thank you.
From day first to day last, David's music was always new, constantly evolving, and invariably challenging. Miss you, Dave. Say 'hi' to Ronno for us.
I love this song. One legend covering another. This song is incredible. No offense to Bob Dylan but this is Bowies song the moment he recorded it. Even years later, still his. This man orchestrated his own death. He worked behind the scenes and planned it all. There won't be another death as artistic as Bowies. He turned his death his final performance. Like Lazarus, he rose from the dead through his music. Legendary.
Well said. 👏👏👏
Nice cover, but no, it’s not better than the original.
Também concordo!
Ficou melhor que a versão original
David Bowie era foda !
I’m a huge Bowie fan but this isn’t as good as the original. Dylan’s delivery is full of pathos that only the author could manage.
The beautiful thing is, we have them both, you don't need to choose.@@dylanbrown5414
Immense Genius! I miss you..
I listen, I cry, I smile, I love David Bowie 🎵🎶
Is that his little baby hand? Awwww! ❤️ ★
miss him so much.
R.I.P. DAVID BOWIE
Thank you for the music and memories David. RIP.
Beautifully said
I was 16 in '76 and went to my first concert- Bowie at the garden in nyc. Thin white duke tour - f@#king changed my life. Thought I heard most of his rarities and outtakes etc. Then this appears. Not surprising even this long after his passing that you get something totally cool and different from the man.
I’m in tears.
Oh Bowie. How I miss you. ♥️
RELEASE THE BLACKSTAR OUTTAKES
They are released as No Plan EP. Or is there something else?
@@manofknives at least one more song. According to Tony Visconti that song is made in "Hunky Dory" style
Dont rush them, it took 3 years for Leonard Cohen's post-humous album to come out.
@@manofknives Apparently there's a couple of demos David made literally a few weeks before he died too. Blackstar was almost out and he felt healthy enough that he thought he might have a crack at another album.
@@manofknives Yes, one called Blaze, plus the demos he recorded weeks before his death.
I am very sad that I have never ever seen Bowie live on stage, even after existing at the same time on earth for 14 years...
Miss you David.💔
I love you bowie 😙😙😙💔
Prettiest Star 🌟 Thank you Mr Jones ⚡️
We're missing you David.
I miss you ever day,you are the best!
I only found out about Bowies music after he passed. Call it bittersweet, some damn good music.
I’m happy now, but I’m crying ;-;
Hard not to ....
Stunning! Emotional vocal from David (and some very nice sax) , Gail Ann's gorgeously bubbling bassline and beautiful harmony vocal and some exquisite rhythm and lead guitar work from Reeves. A slice of heaven for us all.
Mr Bowies song 'Trying to Get to Heaven' will be my parting song.
I miss him dearly as well. We lost a great soul.
"I'm going down the Jordan River with everyone else.......trying to get to Heaven before they close the door"..........
I know he's been dead since the very beginning of 2016 but I hope he keeps releasing music.
"It ain't easy, it ain't easy
It ain't easy to get to Heaven
When you're going down"
So what does everyone think the set list would have been if he toured his last two albums? I feel like he would have surely had to have opened with Station to Station. "The return of the thin white duke..."
one of my favourite Dylan songs sung by my all-time favourite singer
rip my love! I'm in heaven each time I hear your incredible voice!! you are my starman, you are the prettiest star!!!!!❤️🎶🌟🚀⚡
THIS IS AN EMOTIONAL SONG LYRICS WOW MISS THE MAN SO MUCH IT ❤️ STILL HURTS AND ALWAYS WILL KEEP ON YOU PRETTIEST STAR XXXX RIP 🦋🦋❤️🌈🌈 DAVID BOWIE ❤️
David's voice is just so sublime. He can even skate the edge of Dylan's vocal fry beautifully!! Love this.♥️
There’s a nod to Warren Zevon’s vocal style in there too. I’m imagining that was intentional, seeing as how WZ also made a record on his death bed.
I dont know why but this song is touching down deep inside my soul. Maybe im next getting the door closed on me.
Always come back to David Bowie. The Otherworldly Spirit he had while on earth. Now seems to resonate with Many People even now. Young and old. Bless this World and All the Souls who Connect through the Ether. Somethings that are Wonderful Can Still Happen.💎💎💎💎✨✨✨🙏
We will miss you. Our Starman ⭐️

I’m a huge Bowie fan (Black Star tattoo anyone?) but this can’t touch the original. Kudos to Bowie for recognising this genius song though.
You made it....but I'm still so sad you are gone! Love you beautiful😘😥💔

I miss you and I hope that where you are now you continue to create.
Goodbye and see you soon friend.
I'm trying to get to Heaven too. Love you David.xoxo
I typically abhor this - the post-mortem releases that feel like a soulless cash-grab. Maybe it's the timing (5 years)... or the significance of the lyrics... or that I know he'd covered this track before... but most likely because I feel his estate and legacy are in honorable hands... the greatest love and most profound loss of my musical life....
This is simply glorious. Thank you ❤
Yes... alot of loving hands and ears were trusted with this recording . The truth is in the goosebumps . His emotive voice floats through this elaborate production . Kinda miss his boyish grin .
It helps a lot that he left plans for releases, and they're still executing his will. Can't be a cash grab (unlike so many artists) this is still released with full intent. I feel, somehow, that he's got a plan to somehow get himself back into this world. And plans to give his estate a key phrase and start producing music again. Somehow. Like a bodhisattva. Somehow.
