It must be so painful knowing you’re dying and writing a song about it and sing it. He truly went out as a star ❤️
A blackstar
A black star / blackstar is both what you call a dying star (planet), but also it's a cancer lesion...
One of the most beautiful and moving videos ever.
He actually didn't know he was gonna die so soon. This was mostly accidental great timing
AmerXcan he was diagnosed with cancer and doctors told him he didn’t have much longer to live. Maybe he didn’t know he’d die that soon but he knew it was close
David Bowie looked straight into the eyes of death, and used it to create his last masterpiece, fucking brilliant
IrishZombie81 exactly . He turned his own death into an Art project . What is possibly one of the best albums of all time .
When a man who's lived the life of a god in his profession, has gone through so much, from the death of his friends and companions who he sang with, and he nears his end, he knows he must have one last ride with his skills.
just like Freddie Mercury did
thats gotta be the best way i have heard this album described
Absolutely. One of the most courageous acts of artistic creation that has ever been.
As dark as it is... Bowie wasn't going to let his death go without taking artistic opportunity from it. I miss the guy every day.

+ivankaramasov I've never been this moved by a music video before. I was never really into David Bowie's music, however this truly spoke to me.

+ivankaramasov absolutely...stunning ...artistic expression to the end...Bravo Bowie Bravo..
+Gregory andre stunning but still so fucking sad...
He died 3 days after this video was posted. This was his goodbye
Oh wow...so courageous to the end!
for an artist, that used so many colours and shades thorughout his whole carreer, it's all so dark here.....he used a total different approach to his latest music than Freddie Mercury did , like they had something to communicate about some kind of dimension ,they were entering in...
Many Legs yes
Most people with that disease cannot even turn in bed. How he got the strength to do this video I don't know.
It''s hard to put on costumes, the lights, rehearsal, sync with the music, etc. If this was filmed 3 days before his end, it is beyond a miracle.
@@2011littleguy it was POSTED 3 days before his death, not filmed. They had to do the editing after filming.
David Bowie was a symbol of fearlessness & love. My wife & I found out she was pregnant & that night, it was announced that David Bowie passed away. We named our son “Bowie” as a result.
Beautiful tribute, his star will shine bright! 💞🕊️🌠
❤️
That’s beautiful
The final scene when he disappears into the wardrobe is very powerful, symbolically his casket. We will never forget you.
Hey you should listen to a band called The Doublejumps if you like David Bowie
True
yeah it was one of his fashion
You have liver cancer, 18 months left to live, and a net worth of $230 million. How do you spend your last moments? On drugs? Sex? Wild escapes across the World? Maybe you would. Bowie, however, got himself into the recording booth and lent his whole voice rehearsing and recording over and over--shooting scenes and retaking them for videos constantly, despite dying of a fatal and often painful diease. That's Bowie's way of doing it. Giving us--all of us--his last moments.
That is arguably the greatest gift anyone has ever given me.

“I’ve now decided that my death should be very precious. I really want to use it. I’d like my death to be as interesting as my life has been and will be.” -

Cos that's music for you mate, goes a lot deeper than what's in front of us.
Because he was the man
I remember, out of all the amazing things I read the day he passed, the one that hit straight to my heart and I've never forgotten since was a tweet, of all things, from Carrie Brownstein that is the perfect descriptor for the emotional mixture of the impact he left on music and social/cultural history, itself, through the world with the feeling of "How is that even possible?". She summed up the shock, sadness, and confusion that set in when hearing of his passing perfectly - "It feels like we lost something elemental, as if an entire color is gone."
TheJestermint becuase his voice and lyrics reaches into your soul and grasp your heart
Because this man was a fucking GOD
I don't get emotional when stars pass away but I did the day David Bowie died. This masterpiece of an album came out two days before his passing, January 8th, on his 69th birthday. My husband and I listened non-stop for months, helping us mourn the passing of this great genius. Little did I know that seven years later on the exact day, I would lose my husband of 13 years suddenly and unexpectedly. As you can imagine this song has taken on new significance. Jimmy will live on forever in my heart.

Bowie entering the closet: his coffin.
The two Bowie's: the bedridden one to symbolise his body decaying, the active one dancing and writing around the room to symbolise his mind's determination to finish the album, mind over matter.
The girl under his bed trying to claw at him: symbolises the cancer trying to take hold of him, and, eventually, succeeding.
The thought, effort and cleverness put into this music video is mind boggling, how he insinuated his death days before, is and will hopefully go down as one of the most artistically done albums ever made.
RIP Bowie, we'll sure as hell miss you.

So what do you think about the head on the bed, and the young guy under the bed?
I would like to think the closet represents another dimension to another world Bowie and all his aliases came from. Which the young and energetic Bowie from Station to Station came from and went back to. Letting us know he lives on even though his physical human body has died.

This video is extremely meaningful. He's writing furiously, trying to write the songs that he has in mind, and you can see him coming up with more ideas. He's desperately trying to keep writing while death is trying to pull him back, into the darkness of that wardrobe, and he gets visibly angry when he's pulled away from the paper he was writing on.
His story wasn't finished. He had much more that he wanted to write, that he wanted to tell us, that he wanted to create. And there was nothing he could do about it, so he left us with this.

I met David when he died, through this song. On the same day, the TV news were announcing his death alongside the debut of his latest album and how related his final album was to this ending journey. After the tribute to him on the Portuguese news, they pass on this song. I was instantly hipnotized by the suffering, the deepness, the pain, the sound. Right after it, I mentally write the name of the song so I wouldn't forget it. I finished dinner, and went straight to RUclips and listened to the song one more and one more and one more time... True, but those singers aren't nearly as world-renown as Bowie. Not knowing Bowie is almost like not knowing who Elvis is. Shame there are some who have never heard of him, though.
The fact that this man saw his end and chose to use the little time he had to say goodbye and leave this last album, particularly this track, as a gift to the world. What a god.
David was good friends with Freddie Mercury, and Queen, and he learned a lot from Freddie's death. Freddie was hounded by the press as he was ill, and dying, so David cleverly concealed his own illness until the very end. David also saw that even Freddie was dying, that he still went into the studio, and created one last masterpiece with Queen - the 'Innuendo' album, which was Freddie's goodbye to his fans. David also gathered all of his strength, as Freddie did years earlier, and recorded his own final masterpiece, and farewell to his fans, to the world. We can't beat death, but we can - if we're clever, go out on our own terms, which is what David did. Well done Major Tom.
This is nonsense. Bowie and Mercury were not close friends. Bowie was a friend of Roger Taylor.
That's YOUR opinion - Which I also find to be nonsense. I suggest knowing your Rock 'n Roll history, before attempting to point out the mistakes of others, when there are no such mistakes.
Bowie and Mercury obviously knew one another from their time working together on the Under Pressure single but the question here was how well did they really know one another? I googled it and found several articles stating they had been friends since the early 70s. What I read said they had first met in 1972 and became good friends.
@me notyou - Exactly. Thank You. Nothing nonsensical about it.
Freddie Mercury only went public with his illness at the very end. He was hounded by the press because he looked ill before that.

"I'll be free, ain't that just like me" This is probably the best line I heard in my entire life.

+Azhar Bj! did you really copy and paste someone else's comment?
+Azhar Bj! It is.
The creative soul writes furiously, but is summoned persistently by the dying body. The soul succumbs, after giving us everything it could ... and then closes the door and says goodbye to us all forever.
^That's what I thought but with more words!
But what's the chick under the bed? I've not figured her out yet...
fucking hell
+Josh Galt Yes. That's the best way of putting it I've seen. That last look of fear off to the side, then the resolute acceptance and willful step back through the door. Fuck.
Ah, deep, beautifully said, and utterly perfect.
I'm not the biggest Bowie fan, but his final album is a bona fide masterpiece. This is one of the most moving songs I've ever heard; full of pain, yet strangely hopeful.
The world is a poorer place without him.
Я родилась в Ленинграде, мы остались с сыном. Я человек в прошлом спарта , мне62 года и каждфй разя возвращаюсь к Дэвиду. Вечная память.
He released this in RUclips four days before passing away.
Luis Fer Alonzo 4 days
Thats crazy
And Lazarus was in the tomb for four days
He knew he was going to die.
Too sad to watch......
That "Look up here, I'm in heaven" gets me every time. Even 5 years later.
for mw it´s when it changes to "look up here,, man. I´m in danger"
He's looking down on us now
@@shaneodwyer6132 up. hes in hell
@@notsans9995 For what? Not that any of that is real anyway?!
@@notsans9995 from what I’ve seen he’s literally done nothing wrong. He was never satanic or arrested.
He made me realise the the immense value of exercising self expression. Such a blessing to have the courage and the skill to express the experience of dying. Forever respect. A great source of inspiration.
Lazarus. He knew he would live again.
My dearest daddy was a fan of Bowie. He once said jokingly that he would like it for his funeral. And it will be so. He died yesterday. He lived shorter than David, because dad passed away at the age of 64. Cancer took him too.
:-( Condolences. It's hard to find a better funeral musical choice, though. I hope you and your family are finding some comfort today.
I'm so sorry to hear that. Stay strong. My mum was 65 when she went. Also cancer. It will be hard but you'll get through it.
My deepest condolences :(
May he be at peace
My condolences. 🎶🖤
„Look up here, I‘m in heaven“
Crying instantly.
Lezatan if you understand the background of this song and Bowie‘s legacy you can‘t help but cry. Especially when you‘ve been a fan of his work.
bennyboooooy í don't know why! it hurts! í miss him so badly! í miss him.
I cant take this comment seriously because the most popular video on your channel is...just no. 😕
Look up here, I;m in Danger: That;s Bowie saying his goodbyes to this crazy world, that can;t tell he is a true guineas Plus, he's not taking my News Paper, Be happy, he's out of Misery and scaring the Angels.
It brings me to tears seeing his artistry, cancer couldn’t defeat that high spirit in him. His powerful voice, the moves he makes in the video, every little thing, he looks so majestic as always, the one and only David, there’ll be no other like you! Now you’re free, my love.
Мурашки от этого видео !!! Клип тяжелый, страшный, но от этого гениальный!!! Спасибо Девид!!! Царствие тебе небесное!!!
Freddie Mercury: These are the days of our lives
David Bowie: Lazarus
Two of the greatest goodbye songs in music history
Freddie also has mother love which is heartbreaking
what about mother love?
Also hurt by Johnny cash
David Stardust And “The show must go on!”
@@axlthesnake Hurt is actually a cover, Nine Inch Nails made the original
This song:
One of the greatest goodbye songs in history
One of the *saddest* songs in history
One of the best songs in history
The last song of an incredible performer

goodbye, david bowie. goodbye, starman. goodbye, inspiration.
inspiration ye sure ill make i song when i feel like im about to die
I borrowed this to add to the post on Facebook so very profound and i couldnt have done better Thank you!
So open and raw. So Bowie not to hold back. Compelled to let us know. Ain't that just like you to find creativity in death.
Same thing with the show must go on by queen
slapnut : omg stop! You are making me cry
So powerful. I was thinking about this song since I have been diagnosed with terminal cancer
Im sorry to hear, hope you enjoy life to the fullest under the circunstances.
I will pray for u my dear I hope you fight the better of it live each day as much as you like please update soon if u can my thoughts are with u stay strong my dear ❤❤
i'm so sorry
Im sorry!! I hope you'll find happiness despite circumstances!
I am really fascinated by the fact that an almost 70 years old artist can sound so fresh and contemporary. He definitely had not lost his originality and aim to innovate. It is almost bizarre that an old man who was dying from cancer found power to create such avandgarde art, whereas so many new artists sound like copies of something that came decades before them and just want to get viral. I am sure that they will be forgotten, while Bowie's genius will live forever.
He said goodbye to the world the best way he could =]
yes
His Free From His pain😢,#StarDust❤❤
I agree 100%
+jh565bb Yeah he sure did. He was brilliant and unique to the very end. True legends never die. RIP David Bowie.
+jh565bb Yeah, by hiding his illness to his followers. Good way to go. He had cancer for 18 months without telling anyone, or we'll never know whether it was 18 months or more
I can’t believe that it’s been 6 years since he’s gone. Rest In Peace. You’re still so missed.
i just feel the same, thank you for finding the right words.
Miss a stranger that you don't even know that made dumb transgender music videos? That's bizarre.
I still wish his hand or something had been removed and sent into space. Then a little piece of David would always be
"Floating in a tin can... far above the world...".
He will always be missed to the end of times
The music is __OUTSIDE.__
Одна из мощнейших песен, произведших впечетление. Гениальный артист. Так выложится, обманув саму Смерть, заставив её поучаствовать в создании шедевра, дав ему бессмертие, это подвиг Артиста и Музыканта.❤️
It's still such a fresh and strangely personal pain. I put this one away for so long. I never knew the man but I miss him like he was a close friend.
man...I don't know why, but the line "everybody knows me now" is incredibly haunting, as now that he's dead everyone is starting to become a fan of his.
+Audrey Bennett i think he may also just be referring to his status as an icon,
+Audrey Bennett It's pretty clear he knew he was near death, and anticipated the response.
I've been listening to this and Blackstar all day I am about to cry
+Audrey Bennett Also the fact is once you're dead, you're finite. There's no more work you're going to do, or more words you'll say, it's finished forever. There's no good or bad news left that he could create. So everybody will know him now for the fullness of his life and work, all he's done is recorded and discussed and dissected. We tend to remember the better parts of people once they're gone if they did good things. Everybody knows his time is complete.
+1970brenz You join so many godless, empty people lamenting your unhappiness without God. Without God, you are as finite as your stubbornness to consider the delicate balance of this entire universe, yet God is giving you more time to realize your selfish emptiness.
R.I.P. David Bowie. I hope you accepted Jesus Christ gift, and in god's presence in your glorified body. Thank you for your part of our lives soundtrack.
How he turned his death in to a masterpiece. What a unique genius he was.
Varth Mader he turned his death into an art project
Turning your actual death into a concept album is fucking genius and just makes an already musical legend into a towering colossus.
Laura Bourne he wouldn't have wanted to go out any other way.
Song sucks lets be honest
Zan You couldn't be more wrong. Are you American, by chance? I've never been a big fan of American music - it's a product to be sold. Music like this is real - it's art. If you can't appreciate that, then that's your problem.
deeply unsettling, harrowing but also, in a way freeing
This video makes so much more sense now.
***** I'm just glad I heard it from my niece instead of the internet. I preordered the album for her as a Christmas present.
yeah, it has a message
+Because We Can- The Channel I thought the same thing. :s
+john Dude, he was just saying that it made more sense bro
NexifyPlays It also makes more cents now too
He's probably doing live concerts in heaven now keeping his legacy going
He's probably doing a duet with Freddy Mercury right now as we speak
+TKXWeatherman that would fucking role I could see Lennon also playing the instruments whilst David and Freddie sing
Under pressure maybe?
+alexs123 That's stupid and Lennon was a hypocrite and a shitty father.
+Otto Ladensack Staying at home being a houseman and caring and even baking his own bread for son Sean as a baby.... is a shitty father?
There's certain "high point" Bowie tracks where he lets you right into his world without ever telling you. Life on Mars?, Fame, Station to Station, Heroes, DJ, Ashes to Ashes, Buddha of Suburbia, Jump They Say, Little Wonder.. & this. My God this is raw.
8 years since he left us. The world misses you David Bowie.
Only David Bowie can make the phrase "i was looking for your ASS" sound so sad and melancholic and have us cry to it.
Oh my god this song breaks me and you’re right-only Bowie could do this and so much more
😎
I thought he said hands
I though he said "hand", but I'd accept ASS just the same!
LOL HE SAID ASS
. . . and the stars look very different today . . .
Musical genius indeed.
Major Tom to ground control ur circuits broke there’s something wrong
😪😪😪
he makes so called stars of today look so dull.
Yes
I can not believe it has been almost 8 years since this song rocked my world. Our time here is soo short and this song is the ultimate reminder of this fact. Timeless artist, unreal artistry. RIP…
