I've been trapping mud minnows for over 40 yrs! The best bait that I have found is cotton seed mill mixture next crab and strips or pieces of white fish! I am sure there are more! next you can catch a lot of minnows, but not a true mud minnow! I've had traps full of minnows but maby only a dozen real mud minnows! use the ones with a white underside and a darker color on top! If they are there you don't have to wait hours just fifteen to twenty minutes! Then reset the traps at least 30 or 40 ft. apart!
I’ve found the soft net traps catch 10x the mud minnows, they can’t escape as easy when you pull it. I make calls of cat food and flake fish food like meatballs freeze them and after a 10 minute soak I get 20 per trap.
Hi I want to try catching minnows, but I know very little about it. What kind of locations should I look for to set my trap? I see the area in the video is very marshy/grassy. There's an area like that where I live (Galveston, TX), but it's a lagoon directly connected to the ocean. Could I find minnows that close to the sea, or do they live mainly in inshore systems?
That "baby brim" is a species of Sheepshead minnow. Excellent bait and sexually dimorphic if you catch one in spawning they are beautiful. Hope this helps!
I use to do that, your right crab is a great bait! I used to keep a big freezer full of crabs! Some times I had just about as of good luck using the frozen ones!
flounder7272 I fish the Galveston/Texas City area and I fish almost exclusively for flounder year round. I trap my own mud minnows every time I go. I've found crab to be the best bait, but you need to step on them, crushy their claws and peel their shell off to let the juices get into the water.
I always catch the most with crabs as well. When I don’t have any I use Vienna sausages with pretty good luck to

You should find some
Best bait is a cheap can of fish flavor catfood from the Walmart.
That little minnow that you said you didn't know what it was may have been a baby pinfish.

Nice dude do u think there's catfish in there
How much do those traps cost?
KD_27 they cost about 10 to 30 dollars
I just used a steak bone with a little bit of meat n fat left on it. caught plenty of minnows and a few crawfish
Quick and easy bait is the cheap little gas station honey buns, but you’ve gotta check it in 30 minutes or so
I know a guy that uses multi colored cat food and works Awesome. Try it!
sealtite904 I use dog food
Ramen noodles work great.
Dog food is nice too
Best bait is my ex wife.
Can't tell if this is a light hearted sexual reference, or a deeply morbid "i killed my ex wife and now she's being eaten by fishes" joke.
I use gulp that the tails have been chewed off of.
this is really smart, thanks
@phyxp12345 I never catch minnows though. That's why I watched this video lol. Kidding the gulp works
hahahaha good point@@darenleeper1644
IMO crabs work best but you gotta break them open.
Best bait is crab. The fresher the better. Separate top of crab. I catch for resale to bait stores.

How much do you sell to the bait store and then how much do they sale it? Just curious

Semper P!
galvanized trap and a few pieces of styrofoam
Did any body else notice how he pulled them up in order from least to greatest?? Not trying to be rude or anything.
Try fish head
Bad camera work
Try dog food
