I tried using bread with , negative results
Sure wish I had your "eat anything" minnows 🤣. These Colorado minnows laugh at attempts to trap them. Haven't found the right bait yet, but dog/cat food didn't work. Bread didn't work either.
crushed vienna sausage and a boiled egg still in the shell but crushed enough for the yellow to start falling apart has always worked for a full trap in just about 10 minutes
Good tip - thanks for sharing Brian!
Great tip thanks
Hey Austin,
I had sent the SST (Salt Strong Team) two emails with questions which you answered:
One email on 11/9 was entitled "Types of Lures to Use."
And the other on 11/27, entitled "Braided Fishing Line Questions."
Nice to put a face to your replies.
Thanks for all you and the other team members do!
Some premium sized Mud Minnows/ Killies there. Great bait for flounder!
Nice job. I got the Gee's trap right before Frabill came out with the rubber coated one. Can get scratched. It does work though. Great presentation.
Excellent!
My favorite bait hook for smaller live bait like mud minnows and sand fleas is a 1/0 gamakatsu Octopus hook. It’s got the right size for most small bait and it’s stout enough to not have to worry about it bending out
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks bro, you deserve a sub
Gees minnow traps are the best!
Austin Love your mud minnow video

I have found that if your trap is shallow the mud minnows can see you approaching and will swim out really fast. I think it’s best to stay out of sight and pull your trap fast to really get all that are in there. I make little golf balls of cat food and fish flakes and freeze them for bait. They work great.
Hey salt strong what reel do you recommend for saltwater fishing inshore for artificial the Diawa bg or the Diawa fuego or is there another option you recommend
We have them in Nova Scotia, we fish with them for monster smallmouth and brook trout. Great video
I’m also from NS

Blue crab is the absolute best bait for the Mud Minnows, hands down. the best method is to crush the crab and put in a panty hose inside the trap, it will keep them from tearing it to pieces and allow more to come in the trap after fresh food. You can reuse the same panty hose multiple times before they tear it up. I catch 1-2 dozens per pull most of the time in an hours time. I have a 55 gallon drum in my apartment ive turned into a live well. I can keep 20-30 dozen at a time alive for weeks or even months if i feed them and replace the water atleast once.
Thanks for the info!
I do have a question for you my friend. I drop my traps in with The appropriate bait and I get a couple of chubs and basically a trap filled with dozens and dozens of green crabs.. I would sell my dog if I could figure out a way to MacGyver the traps so they were six or eight inches above the bottom so the crabs would have more of a chore than getting in. I live in Marshfield and we have miles and miles of ditches Dug by veterans following world war II. The problem is they are bone dry when the tide is out but I'm still trying to find the right spots. Any suggestions on reducing the number of crabs in the trap or locations that are brackish but don't go dry? No worries you have a great day my friend.
Bread works for me.
You can easily make your own by buying two metal mesh black trash containers from dollar tree..every bit as effective if you make right.alterations..for all of 2 or 3'bucks.
Who in there right mind would use bacon for bait! Cool video with the GoPro.

Going to set mine tonight
Nice!
@Saltstrong ended up with six but gonna start a fish tank and collect throughout the week
Would this work for catching shiners also?
For sure! 💪💪💪
👍👍👍👍👍
Mantab yes keren ok
Here I am trying to catch mid minnows in the creek near my house, can’t find em in 1-6 feet of water so I guess I’ll have to go deeper in my kayak with the trap
Water can’t have current salt pond with little current is fine 1’ of water is fine near the edge I used Vienna sausage crack the lid pore juice off foil lid back on self don’t take off
@@JohnJones-zm3nb dude I catch em in salt creeks, the only current is tidal flow. This was also February when the water was in the 40’s in my area. Now I can catch em without trying, once it warms up I usually end up snagging em with top waters way up in the marsh
👍😉
Shrimp doesn’t last as long but you can I’ll catch alot
We have mud minnows as well. The type we have are first cousins with the northern pike. They hunt like pike, and act like pike. They are very much protected in my state I am not allowed to use them for bait.
I have them in my area as well but were introduced by fishermen.
i live in mb and catch those mudminnows n my creek all the tim in mb i use bread
Thanks for the tip
Is this trap effective for mullet?
lmao
@@lizardariouswashington9097 what’s so funny?
What about shrimp? How to catch them for baits?
Cast net!
NOTE; The silver traps work better than the black ones.
Wouldn't it be better if those traps were made with half a basket and half a bucket without holes... !?!
That way when you pull it out you already have your bucket
And they will obviously find their way in with only one hole at one end but it would be harder for them to out so thats also better
How many times can you say Guys ?
Always heard that the silver ones are better than the darker ones but that’s not on personal experience as I haven’t caught mud minnows just read about it a bunch. Any comments curious thank you.
The silver ones are finger mullets
Get you a silver trap you will catch twice as many
No it doesn’t work like that
What I don’t get minnows go in how come they can’t go out
One of the great mysteries!!!

Good for you
Mud minnows are good bait for what
Those black traps are junk. Use the silver mesh one
Will raw chicken work?
Perhaps!
Okay. I'm a member, and this was sent to my Email. I wonder if this is membership only content? Otherwise if not. A membership isn't worth it.
It's not I'm not a member and can see it
Doritos work best for mud minnow bait.
Try Flamin' Hot Cheetos instead! I personally don't like the taste of them, but I have seen the water turn into what looked like a boil while they were fighting over the small pieces! Easily comparable to a school of piranha on a chicken leg!
Doritos really? Do you need to put them inside a mesh bag or just looks whole chips in the trap?
@@Florida_Man_Robb Sorry for the late reply. Yeah, we just take a hand fullbdoritos, put them in the trap and then toss it out in the water. Thevlast ones I used where just the nacho cheese one. I've used cool ranch too. They seem to last for quite a while.
Sorry, but I’m not wasting good bacon on minnows, it’s too expensive. 😂😂😂
If people have to watch these instruction videos to put a minnow trap together then they have no business fishing.
