Just found your channel a couple days ago and I’m surprised you don’t have more subscribers. Quality videos and I just love how humble you are and generous towards others! Keep the videos coming because i’ve been binge watching them since I found your channel. 😊😊
Good job on the videos. A friend of mine chums his traps up with cat food. He punches a few holes in those little potted meat sized cans. Seems to work okay but Ive seen more minnows in your traps then ours! Everything eats bread. LOL
One thing me and the ol man found out, we use to use bread/buns, but after there are a few minnows in there they bump the bread and it washes out, so we tried using left over pizza crust, attracts them great, and the best part that we found is it hangs together and doesn't wash out, if you would like to try it. We normally set 4-6 traps, leave them for an hour or so, and average catch is 8-10 dozen.
Great video. I have some suggestions. Try saving left over live and dead bait. I salt and air dry minnows and crayfish,. I put them in a sandwich size zip lock and throw them in the freezer. The salt pulls all the moisture out of the bait. To use, I put a "carrier' like bread, crackers, or dog food. Mix it all up including the salt. That salt is highly scented. Try it and let us know.
Looks like a rock bass to me might be wrong those - around here the carp crashes the mino an the bait washes when it gets sogie - biscuits hold up real good also
Its a warmouth i have a lot of those in my strem they get pretty big but not in my small srem it gose all in the woods i have minows baby cat fish mud fish warmouth and baby pan fish.
Try cutting your hotdogs and put them in a baggie , add a pack of cherry koolaid and shake it up , let it sit for an hour or so, then bait your trap 💯🔥
As a few others guess, mine is a bass as well on number 7. I am looking forward to attempting bait trap on a much larger body of water(lake) soon. Bread balls, or chicken liver are my thoughts, coat with cherry jello and go.
Been trapping bait for years. One thing I do is make a bait pouch that is wired to stay in the center of the trap. Keeps the bait from floating around and gets the bait to swim into it to feed.
4:24 that momentary stumble from mud holding your boots makes you so much more human/normal..as it happens to all of us. Glad you haven't shown a face plant/ Belly Flop as that is my every few "trips" routine..Nice video BTW.
great experimentation. a bit surprising i thought dog food might produce more fish but the fish is a lot bigger. maybe mix bread and dog food together should work better haha
Hi! I have a question. I have a new trap and I put it in my lake. I checked an hour later, tons of catfish. Left them in the trap. Checked it this morning, nothing. I had a storm roll through. Do you know why they left?
I was curious how well these traps work,,,I've got 2 sets, but never new, how to exactly, bait em,,,, and looks like they work pretty good,,,you inspired my to try it,,,looks like fun,,,,cool vid😎
This might sound a little strange, but how about trying chicken livers? I've noticed while catfishing, minnows would go for it while I'm reeling in, and go after the little bits that comes off.
How about trying vienna sausage pieces. It's seams like a nice bait because it's in a can and does not have to be refrigerated. Also how about some catfish blood bait balls.
I like that idea! I tried hot dogs a while back and they did well. Vienna sausage would be fun to try. The catfish balls should work well too. Thanks for the ideas!
Ive just bought this same trap. Never used one before. I will be fishing a 500 acre lake for crappie and bluegill next month. I was thinking of using it here. I’d obviously would need to find a small narrow chute to use it in. Has anyone tried a setup like this on a bigger lake? Any suggestions on how to use it there?
Me and the old man have been trapping minnows ever since I was a kid. First thing I can tell you is the silver traps will catch more then those black ones. Second thing I can tell you if you zip tie one end of the minnow hole off so there is only one entrance it WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR CATCH RATE! just helps not ad many getting out. Third thing I can tell you. If you feel like those black traps have to big of holes..zip tie a funnel of what size of minnows u want to catch. Your welcome folks 😀
Thanks for your experienced input. If I close off one end which end is facing upstream? Open or closed end? Probably closed end upstream because they naturally face upstream therefore they will swim up and in the downstream facing hole?
Wal-mart. Just got one on clearance. 7 bucks. Three point system. Inexpensive, if you consider what you would spend on minnows. You could even use leftover meat from a meal, doesn't have to be a huge amount either, or mix with bread balls
You definitely catch more crayfish using dogfood over bread, so if u are looking to trap minnows I recommend using bread and checking the trap twice a day.
I try to avoid catching crayfish, they eat the minnows in the trap pretty quit lol. I love using minnows and worms for fishing. I catch wide varieties of fish that way. I live in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. I can fish the St. Mary's river anytime which has countless species of fish.
came here to see what people are using, i left my trap in a local creek with bread for 24 hours, all i caught was 2 crawfish thingys with big claws , lol , , think i chose a bad spot as bread seems a good bait
How about trying to paint your traps? I've heard that the black causes the fish to assume the figure in the water is a predator. When I was a kid I had a galvanized trap that caught so many minnows. I've had a black trap for a decade and I've caught very few minnows. I'm wondering if painting would actually work.
I have heard that the galvanized are better, but if you cut the solid ring off the in/out hole of the black ones that they work much better. The ring must be easier for them to see the way out.
Page 278 Suppose a minnow is caught by a bigger fish, and wounded. Its cut skin then gives off a chemical that frightens all other minnows nearby. It makes them huddle together into a tight school.
just found out about your channel , and it helps a lot, just made fishing as a hobby with my friends here in Bahrain, I would like to ask what's the best bait for fishtraps for the rocky shores?
What other baits would you like to see me test out for minnow trapping!?
Fish Hawk McDonald food like frys
Try chips
Good idea!
Chips are a good idea too!
Do like a fast food show down like one trap has mcdonalds and the other has like arbys.
small rockbass or warmouth. it's important that your trap is not sideways but inline to the current.
Logger John.
John Tadlock , what is a warmouth?.my first guess was a rock bass.
@@davelockhart3372 it's a type of sunfish. Like a bluegill with a bass mouth.
Good point! I said warmouth but I was completely wrong. Rockbass are blotchy Warmouth aren't, they have stripes.
I do believe that #7 fish was a baby goliath grouper. We have lots of those yutz down here in Tampa. Great videos. Thanks for your effort.
Actually looks like a shadow bass

Aha! Just made my own and caught well over 100 creek chubs, thanks!
Thanks bro, I have a creek behind my house and caught tons of minnows. Thanks for the bait ideas

Rock bass I think!!
Looks like a rock bass to me might be wrong those - around here the carp crashes the mino an the bait washes when it gets sogie - biscuits hold up real good also
the last one the seven looks like a rock bass
Its a warmouth i have a lot of those in my strem they get pretty big but not in my small srem it gose all in the woods i have minows baby cat fish mud fish warmouth and baby pan fish.
Lucky
Michigan, we call them Rockbass
Try cutting your hotdogs and put them in a baggie , add a pack of cherry koolaid and shake it up , let it sit for an hour or so, then bait your trap 💯🔥
Raspberry soda mixed with bread fire same dhit I use to make bread and oat meal balls for carrp
As a few others guess, mine is a bass as well on number 7. I am looking forward to attempting bait trap on a much larger body of water(lake) soon. Bread balls, or chicken liver are my thoughts, coat with cherry jello and go.
Nobody else out there makes videos like you. Thank you. Maybe try doing a crayfish trapping video. But keep the videos coming
Thanks man! I appreciate it! I would like to try crayfish trapping
#7 from the bread trap was a redeye/ rock bass.
Great video, definitely looks like a small rock bass, no doubt. I’m subscribing, thanks for a cool little video!
We called those goggle eye growing up...
Thank you so much! This experiment helped me a lot when choosing bait for my minnow traps.
Been trapping bait for years. One thing I do is make a bait pouch that is wired to stay in the center of the trap. Keeps the bait from floating around and gets the bait to swim into it to feed.
Also keeps fry from decimating your bait before any keepers go in
4:24 that momentary stumble from mud holding your boots makes you so much more human/normal..as it happens to all of us. Glad you haven't shown a face plant/ Belly Flop as that is my every few "trips" routine..Nice video BTW.
haha thanks man! I've been lucky so far. If I do an epic face plant/belly flop I'll be sure to add it in the video. It'll be worth a few good laughs.
Rock bass for sure
great experimentation. a bit surprising i thought dog food might produce more fish but the fish is a lot bigger. maybe mix bread and dog food together should work better haha
Looks like it will do what I bought it for. Not a bad buy. Would recommend :) cant wait to try it out!
Baby Rockbass. :D
I like using honey wheat bread since it’s got a sweetness that they go nuts for.
Minnow trapping is the first vid I watch of you I love em
Thank you Ike! I am going to do more minnow trapping videos soon!
Great video. Do you have any suggestions for trying to trap blueback herring in my local lake?
Nice green sunfish you caught.
thank you for your help my friend i learn a good trick to fish with a cage thx allot😘😘😘😘.
Hi! I have a question. I have a new trap and I put it in my lake. I checked an hour later, tons of catfish. Left them in the trap. Checked it this morning, nothing. I had a storm roll through. Do you know why they left?
You sure it’s a trap? Sounds like a you got yourself an underwater kitchen
@@BlockchainToTheFace lmao
For all the misinformed amatuer fisherman out there, it was a juvenile rock bass. They are VERY colorful when young.
Are you sure it was a rock bass? It looks like hybrid crappie.
Looks like a warmouth to me
Not a rock bass at all. For sure a warmouth.
I thought it was a Oscar fish maybe somehow got into water system
Looked like a blue fin tuna to me..
Love you videos man can't wait for more keep it up
Use balled up bread and small size dog food together. Works the best for me. Just leave in hole 5-6 hours.
Dog food burrito
I was curious how well these traps work,,,I've got 2 sets, but never new, how to exactly, bait em,,,, and looks like they work pretty good,,,you inspired my to try it,,,looks like fun,,,,cool vid😎
I think that last one you showed from the dog food was a Large Mouth Bass fingerling, judging from the stripe on it's side.
no it was a spottail shiner. There is a brief second where you can see the spot at its tail.
I might be a bit late but I believe that was a warmoulth
I use Cheetos crunchy in my Spring fed lake, which takes about 15 minutes to get enough for fishing. Same trap u use but mine is un painted.
Looks like a baby Rock Bass 🤘🏻
please try crayfish trapping. love your videos . i liked and subbed.
This might sound a little strange, but how about trying chicken livers? I've noticed while catfishing, minnows would go for it while I'm reeling in, and go after the little bits that comes off.
I think chicken livers would work great! Love that idea! Thanks man!
Thank you for the vid man 😊
number 7 in bread looked like a little rockbass
That was a Rock bass
175K views on minnow traps... awesome vid to boot!
I heard egg shells work well
That’s a Little Rock bass
Cat food, fries, dog treats
Are you sure it was a rock bass? It looks like hybrid crappie.
That’s a young rock bass on the first trap.
Cool minnows! I think both work good!
Thanks buddy!
Your welcome buddy!
I got the same trap. Trying it today
I just picked up stainless steel one for spring I wanna catch sum tadpoles any suggestions for Bait.
Alan R tadpoles eat moss :)
@@trev8578 thanx for the tip.
Alan R no problem bro
That was little red eye or better know as a rock bass
Good job minnow boy
Rock bass knew it as soon as I seen it PS nothing works better than bread!
I would have to agree!
Rock Bass
I'm the 1k like! Way to go!

That little game fish is a warmouth. They are similar to Rock bass
Can you make that trap with eny wire
dustbin even those with the mental on the bottom
Not sure. I bought these traps at Walmart.
It’s a red eye
ock bass
Good very thanks

Put it near weeds

Where do you get a good minnow trap and how are the two held together? Thanks for a great video. I found your channel by accident and subscribed.
Thanks! I bought mine at Walmart. They're held together with a metal clip. Very easy to put together and take apart.
Wal-mart. Just got one on clearance. 7 bucks. Three point system. Inexpensive, if you consider what you would spend on minnows. You could even use leftover meat from a meal, doesn't have to be a huge amount either, or mix with bread balls
Good job ty 👍
I might have missed it, but what kind of dog food did you use?
Not sure honestly. Cheapest I could find at Dollar General
Fantastic Video Nicely Done ✅
i find, that when using bread, the minnows die fast -- they get bloated and go belly up
Looks like a little rock bass to me or goggle eye
Helpful, thank you :)
Definately a small rock bass.
I agree that last one looked like a rock bass to me too. Especially if its big eyes where orangish in colour.
very helpful video! i just subscribed!

Try vienna sauage...about 50 cents a can...only 2 sauage can attact a couple dozen minnows
It’s a rock bass I catch those in my trap all the time
I thought it was a warmouth
Rock bass was the fish in the bread

Bread has worked the best for me. Hot dogs were probably second best for me. Might try a different spot. Good luck!
Tiny rock Bass
Thanks
Goggle Eye
Setting the traps I see your head on a swivel, one eye on your work, the other other eye looking around for the game warden 😅
your link for trap doesn't point to an available trap anymore
Ramen noodles work awesome. Cheap too.
Cooked?
It is a small rock bass

Possibly! These minnow traps are wire with a rubber coating on the wire. I'm not sure paint would stick to it very well.
Yeah mine is coated as well. I'm going to try it. I'll let you know next weekend

I have heard that the galvanized are better, but if you cut the solid ring off the in/out hole of the black ones that they work much better. The ring must be easier for them to see the way out.
I actually thought about painting one green to resemble a weed patch. They love hiding in weeds!!
That one brown and black spotted one is a baby cropie
That's a little goggle eye! Aka rock bass
It is a rock bass!!
Also if you do another trout fishing video you should try a lure called joes flies also a mepps Thunder bug
I will be doing a lot of Trout fishing this Winter/Spring. I have some Joe's Flies. I will try to use some in my videos.
try bread and oungiongs in a trap like a combination I usaly works good
rock bass the other ones look like leatherbacks. you should try chicken liver
