I’ve always loved this scene to death because of how much it reminds me of hanging out with my dad and uncle when I was a kid. They were big food guys and we’d spend a lot of time making food and going out to restaurants. God, I miss them.

This is the only movie that makes me feel comfortable watching it. The first time i watched this, i was really looking forward for conflict or tension between the dad and son like the kid was gonna burn the truck or something but it was just pure bonding and enthusiasm.
I like how this movie seemed more like a biography than a drama or thriller. Just because everything is going right doesn't mean you have to instantly create tension. This movie gives you moments to enjoy and that's whats great about it.
They got everything right about cooking for high volume, even the way they move with the hunched over urgency and lingo like "I'm going to need you to jump on the line." Refreshing movie.

Made the recipe, movie's a little misleading on cooking time: the pork's actually supposed to marinate overnight. Still, the resulting sandwich did not disappoint.

Elias Bonilla right, I thought it was obvious that the prep and cooking were hours apart/on different days. But I love marinating so it seemed natural to me
pajamagirl123 very natural. Love this scene. I actually never even took in just how smooth that transition was until I watched binging with babish and I found out it takes at least 12 hours to leave marinated
kilimenjiro In a food truck you'd be making the sandwich with the meat that you made the previous day, likewise for today you'd be making the meat for tomorrow's sandwich
It's all passion, man. People do work like this because they love it. That's why teachers make what they make and still teach. That's why folks serve in the military. etc etc etc. There are people on this planet who thrive under pressure, respond well to harsh environmets, and they live for stuff like this. Chef made me fall in love with food service. It's a little Disney, at times, but it's also a great representation of a creative and talented person refusing to bow out because of pressure and criticism. I think that's what all of us who work because we love it are being fueled by.
As a Mexican second generation I worked with a puerto Rican an I did everything according to a recipe (the moms/grandma's) but I learned from them 1.) Spanish is not universal an 2.) Flavor IS universal. I love cubano tortas and lechón. We can all agree on hella good food.
this is one of my favorite movie in recent years, music good, food scene excellent, and the movie expresses the desire for his father's attention very well!
I still remember watching this almost all the time in our cable tv when I was in a really really bad place. It was comforting having to see this almost everyday at that time.
I remember watching this movie with my dad on a whim. We are both the ones who cook in our family, and for whatever reason I remember it being just my dad and I that night and we said, "fuck it, favreau makes good shit, and it sounds like a good movie, let's stream it." We both absolutely loved it, and most of all loved seeing how his son went from being a fish out of water, to one of the cooks, to contributing majorly to his newfound success by taking advantage of social media.
I treated my nephew and niece the same when I started making Navajo tacos. Making the burger well done or medium. But also switching up the ingredos (Ingredients) To chopped lettuce and tomatoes with a little onions making almost a finger sandwich. It's bonding that I Love between us.😁 Love films like this
If you've never had a cubano like this, you need a cubano like this. Recipe tin eats has a recipe version of this that is bomb as fuck and I look back at this scene to tell everyone what they are missing by not having this sandwich. "Ham and pickle and yellow mustard and swiss cheese" turns them off, but they are missing the critical ingredient. Love. This sandwich is made with love. And mojo pork, but we don't tell them that.
It's a thankless job, but man, seeing the satisfaction on peoples faces when they eat your food is reward enough. I'm not a certified Chef, but I've been in the business for over 18 years, and have learned so much from qualified Chefs. Cooking an awesome meal is fun, and watching people drooling over your meal as they eat it is the best feeling ever. One day, I hope to earn the right to call myself Chef.
