    OMG! Where do i start?! I distinctly remember my mom suffering N/V/migraines in her 40s. She was hospitalized at one point and given phenergan; however, those were her menopausal (or maybe peri-menopausal?) symptoms. I am now in my 40s and she tells me now to just "deal" with my own symptoms and I jogged her memory about her own experience .....she has forgotten how traumatic it was for all of us! Why are we women just "band-aiding" this phase?! Thanks Dr. Taylor! :)

    Thank you for what you do! I can say I know somethings about menopause but not at the extent you know it. I just turn fifty and haven’t think a lot about menopause issues. I was thinking only that it was going to be such a relief to get rid of the periods… I hated when I had my first (13 yo) and have hated every single period my entire life. Ugh! I’m buying your book. I’ll watch your videos. I want to learn. Thank you again. Much love.

      You are so very welcome, my dear.
      Welcome aboard to "Menopause Taylor University." You'll find that if you start at the very first video (going by the number after each title), you'll understand absolutely everything. And you'll be shocked at what you didn't know, and delighted that you now do know.
      Each video builds on the last. It's just like school: You had to learn the alphabet before you could read. And nowadays, there are so many overwhelming misconceptions that women mistake as facts ... that you just don't know what you don't know.
      I respond to all comments here on RUclips daily. So, I will answer all your questions ... but I'll also know if you aren't watching the videos in order. (I'm like your mother. I have eyes in the back of my head!)
      And if you need me to help you tailor anything to your personal situation, you can schedule a one-on-one consultation at MenopauseTaylor.ME any time. I do them all online.

    The story about the husband and wife was hilarious 😂. I just began my HRT journey yesterday, and can thank you tremendously, because even only having watched the first 20 videos approx, I had enough tools and understandings to convince my Dr to get me started, asap, first visit. I’m coming back to review some stuff and will definitely be following your process, to continue to learn more, and more, and more. Thank you, Dr Taylor ✨🥳✨

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  4 года назад +2

      What a sweetheart. Here's why I don't have millions of subscribers: Menopause is THE most neglected (and most unpopular) topic on Planet Earth ... even though 50% of the world's population spend 50% of their lives in the state of menopause.
      So I took the most unpopular subject on earth and made my RUclips channel into a classroom with it!
      But I hope that I eventually wake up enough women to have a menopause revolution so that all women get the education they deserve.

    You are so amazing! I am 50 and in perimenoapuse (I think) , I pride myself on being knowledgeable about medical matters, but ... I don’t know the first thing about menopause, and it seems that none of my friends do, either, and haven’t yet consulted with my doctor yet (and I can’t expect her to be my “teacher” in any event). so very thankful I found your channel!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  5 лет назад +3

      Terri,
      Before you go to your doctor, consider scheduling a one-on-one consultation with me. I'll make sure you know everything you need to know in order to make your time with your doctor productive. (Doctor's visits are only about 10 - 15 minutes, you know!)
      Doctors are not teachers. And they are terrible at teaching lay persons. All I do is educate, and I do so in a way that works for YOU.
      I'm in the business of educating you about everything you need to know and do in order to get exactly what you want for managing your menopause your way. So, here's how a consultation works:
      1) You would schedule a one-on-one consultation at my website, MenopauseTaylor.ME, choosing a time that is convenient for you. I do consultations on Skype, FaceTime. Facebook Messenger, What’s App, and the phone.
      2) I would send you an email to confirm that you are scheduled for the stated time, and invite you to send me as much information about yourself as you please. You can make it brimming with details and tell me about your reproductive life, any gynecologic problems you've had, your symptoms of peri-menopause, and your symptoms of post-menopause. You can include all your fears, concerns, and goals for your menopause management. You may also send me any labs, mammogram results, bone density results, etc. that you would like me to include in designing your protocol. For instance, if you want to adhere to a certain category of management options (herbs or diet & lifestyle, or whatever), you should tell me that. I will give you a deadline for sending all materials, and will not accept anything after that date.
      3) I'll get busy creating a document that gives you all the education you need to understand absolutely everything, points out the pros and cons of each option, and tailors it all to YOU, using the information you have provided. The document will be loooooong. Most are over 30 pages.
      4) I will send you the document by email 48 hours before your consultation. You will benefit greatly by reading it in advance. Light bulbs will go off like crazy, and if you're like most women, you'll feel that you've already gotten your money's worth.
      5) During your consultation, we will review the document and address any issues you want in order to fine tune everything and determine your best options. I'll tell you exactly how to find the right kind of professional, how to have the conversation in order to get what you want, and the nuances of things like guidelines and insurance. I leave nothing unaddressed.
      6) You will go to a professional of your choosing in order to get the actual hormones or whatever you choose to use.
      7) After the first consultation, I'll hold your hand (forever if you want me to). In other words, you'll be able to schedule mini-consultations (15-minute or 30-minute, in addition to full consultations) whenever you need to. I'll keep records of your situation. Most women schedule mini-consultation whenever they go to the doctor and don't understand what he or she said, or why. I translate. I make sense of everything. Most schedule mini-consultation whenever they have a new test and they want me to explain the results. And all schedule mini-consultation whenever their situation changes and they need to re-weigh and re-balance their options.
      The time you spend with me will make everything about working with any other professional so easy. And they will love the fact that you have an actual education rather than a bunch of misconceptions that you got from the Internet. If your initial hormone regimen is not right, you'll want to consult with me before going to your doctor. I can prepare you for what to expect and what to request.
      So, that's my role. And nobody else on earth does this kind of thing but me. So, I hope you schedule a consultation and let me hold your hand (figuratively).
      I hope to meet you soon!

    As one would feel getting stuck in a revolving door... I was as confused going in, as I was going out! My mother didn't prepare me when I was young. My 1st period happened at the beach & I was scared to death thinking that I was hemorrhaging! I didn't know much about menopause when I started at around 45 yrs old. Times have changed & I prepared all of my children. I even had a talk with my son to help him "survive" living with his 2 sisters & myself. I'm sure this helped him understand his wife more also. More conversations need to be had! I'm loving your channel! ~Susanne

    Your menopause educational videos are beyond brilliant!!! I consider myself as a quite naive on that extremely important subject until now. For I believed that menopause is something similar to taking an exam or just a passage in time ...! You prepare for it, then you pass it and leave it behind you. Thanks to the recent interview on the fantastic Dominique Sachse RUclips channel I have discovered your amazing person 🤗. You are an unique juwel dear & wonderful Dr. Barbie Taylor 💎💎💎 ...❣❣❣ And I couldn't have been happier about the fact, that I feel immensely blessed to regard myself as one of your students in your pretty special & one of a kind open university for menopause ❣ Much love Sylvia from Hamburg/Germany

    I believe I started perimenopause about the age of 40. I just turned 50, and from 40 until my last period, which was 2 years ago were so rough that I turned to alcohol to deal with the depression, anxiety, insomnia etc... I suddenly felt as though I couldn't cope with life. I eventually stopped drinking with the help of a wonderful therapist. But I wish I would have been better mentally prepared for perimenopause Thank you Dr Taylor for giving women these videos so full of information. .

There are so many important things about which most women know nothing. For instance: Menopause really isn't about t hot flashes. It's about heart attacks, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer's Disease. I'll be teaching you everything you need to know to prevent these things.

Unfortunately I don't think our relationship was ever quite recovered. I wish she had had resources like this. Now I am 49 and I know it will happen to me very soon. No one prepared me for puberty. I came from a very conservative family (Japanese) and my mother didn't talk to me about my cycle and what I learned was from friends since in my day there were very few books available and none were in my library. Hi Dr. Barbie, I have been catching up on your videos and am loving them,, They are so fun and informative. I'm not really sure, but I think I am postmenopausal I lost track of when my last period was because they were so crazy and I never know when I would have it. My problem now, is a looooooow sex drive, which is driving my poor husband crazy!!!!!! I'm sure you will address this problem in future videos. Thanks again for being all or our doctor... xoxoxo

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  8 лет назад

      Carolyn, I will definitely be addressing low sex drive, as well as vaginal dryness in future videos. They both affect your sex life. Those videos are a ways off, though. If you want to get a jump start on that information, it's all in my book. Vaginal dryness is chapter 22, and sex drive is chapter 25. The most recent video (which aired on August 23rd) is tutorial 12, which is only chapter 4.

    I never got the talk. I came from a very conservative family (orthodox Jewish father and "let her learn on her own, no one told me" mother) I thought I was dying, when I got my first period at 12. My mother was only concerned about me bleeding on the carpet (yes, we had carpet in our bathroom!) She then handed me a miniature mattress attached to a belt. She didn't even provide me with instructions on how to use this contraption. I didn't get any breasts, or have acne, but I ended up with "child-bearing hips". Fast forward to 47, my periods are fewer and further between, I am having hot flashes, night sweats and generally feeling yucky. At 51, my periods stopped entirely. YAY! No more surprise periods, or shopping for, or worrying about not having any pads handy! I am now 54. I am 5'8" tall and was (since high school) a very regular 145 lbs, because I am not petite. I now weigh 188lbs!! I have steadily gone from 145 to 152 to 163 to 172 and holding steady at 188. I have bigger breasts than I know what to do with. I've got now, what I should have had at 15 years old, when I was flat as a board! I call it "puberty 2.0, on steroids". I have belly fat, back fat, jiggly arms and "chub rub". I don't sleep at night. The "night" sweats have become all day and night sweats. For someone who used to wear sweaters on the hottest days in the summer, now I am keeping windows open in the winter and I am hot all the time. I remember seeing my mother going through menopause, (she is a miserable character, who, I always say, is in "perpetual menopause") making the rest of us freeze, because she was hot. Now I am doing the same thing, except for the fact that I live alone, so am not freezing anyone else out. My doctor says it is redistribution of fat, due to hormonal changes. She suggested Estrogen replacement. I am reluctant, so I look forward to watching your videos, to see what you say about it. Then I will decide. I can't live this way, any more. I have to do something.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  8 лет назад

      Brenda,
      There are many signs and symptoms of menopause ... 22 of them! I'll be giving you the entire list in Tutorial 11 and later I'll give at least one separate video on each.
      For the most part, your periods will get farther and farther apart over many months or a few years. Keep track. When you've gone for 12 CONSECUTIVE months with no period, by definition, you are post-menopausal.
      All the stuff you experience in the time your periods are spacing out is called peri-menopause.
      Be sure to watch Tutorials 10 and 11.

I might re-watch again, but then again, for now, I don't really need to know it completely in & out, as I am definitely post-menopausal.
      I am loving these videos and though I did the college route and am blessed to have formal education, I didn't stop there and have always enjoyed being a life long learner. I LOVE that at increasing ages, I am still learning new things and there are always new things to learn! Well, here I am soaking this in and loving it all.

      As for the teaching, I really don't have any experience at all. I am an obstetrician/gynecologist/and gynecologic surgeon. Of course, I've taught medical students and residents, but that was always using the typical medical lingo that we doctors use. And it was mostly pertaining to performing surgical procedures.
      I make sure I know what I'm going to say, but that's it. I'm so glad you can appreciate what I do. And you probably understand how I go through life finding new and fun ways to explain things.
      I love making these videos for you. Keep watching.

    • @susansauls8902
      @susansauls8902 5 лет назад

      @Menopause Taylor Amazing, you have a natural talent for teaching. It is underestimated, and you find your zany ways to make it fun, capture your audience's attention, and explain in laymans' terms that make sense to someone with no understanding of the subject. Also the same as a good public speaker, same methods, all with organized delivery. And many trained teachers don't do it well even if it is their profession. The most genius people I have known take the most complicated things and make them easily simple in few minutes with no fanfare. That is what you do here in your videos with topics that have stumped not only females, but the general population ... forever! You make it all seem easy. You certainly are genius, and with a huge heart in your work. The more I watch, the more I appreciate you and cannot thank you enough. My humble thanks is a small gesture in exchange for this trove of gifts from you.
      I have a long way to go in your videos, so I will probably be unable to help myself and must say it again at some point. Please pardon me! I know you have many many other viewers!
      Hope you are having a lovely day where you are. We are celebrating our daughter's 20 birthday today. She is preparing to leave at the end of the month to work with Ballet of the National Theatre in Belgrade. My husband and I have been reminiscing in her birth story today. Dear Barbie, thank u so much for your videos!!! They are fantastic!!!! My name is Lydia, I live in Greece, I'm 50 years old and had my last period 4 months ago. Just started with bioidentical hormone replacement. What do you think of them???? Also, as I've been exercising with weights since I was 20 years old what do you think I should change in my routine in order for me not to lose what I have accomplished????? Last question as YOU look fantastic..... How can I keep my skin in top shape???? I've got so many questions..... Thank u so much!!!!!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  8 лет назад +2

      I love questions, Lydia.
      Bioidenticals are fine. All that matters is what works for you. One of the biggest lessons I teach you is that no one's opinion matters but your own. I'll be giving you tutorials on all the different categories of hormones, including bioidenticals. If you're happy on them, don't dissect a rose. Just keep on using them.
      I think you should change your workout "routine" periodically. Or just add new things every now and then. Your body has memory. If you do the same things, it becomes efficient at going through the motions without much effort. But if you shock your body every now and then with new things, it will respond with increased effort ... and you'll see that as a change in your physique. The weights are great. But maybe you can do them differently, or add balance or flexibility exercise to your routine. I'll be showing you a lot of great exercises throughout the series.
      As for your skin, protect it from the sun. I wear a hat every day, no matter what. Drink loads of water, and keep your skin moisturized. I'll be giving you dedicated tutorials on skin care.

    I used to think menopause meant we pause to become men. LOL But I never craved carbs. I craved salt like crazy! I never had acne either. My puberty was super easy in every way except my periods! I hate even their memory! I had breast cancer and after all those surgeries I lost my estrogen. I am glad this resource is available because all I eve heard about menopause was hot flashes. I never had a hot flash and women in Japan do not get hot flashes. Its easy as far as that goes it is diet. But one of my Chinese herbalists said I was degenerating and that was 2002. I have bene in menopause for 4 years and it has only recently (since 2016) gotten really bad and I am gawd I have this as a resource!

    Barbie, I was one of those people who had no idea about periods before it happened. My sister, who was 1 1/2 years older, had not started so apparently my Mom did not think I needed to know.
    I woke up one morning, bleeding. I told my Grandmother, who lived with us, and she was a bit mortified. She did not want to tell me because she thought it was my Mother's place to do it. So she assured me I was okay, sent me to school with an adult-size pad and belt on (old school), and promised that Mom would explain when I got home. Amazing!

They thought it was a tumor and turns out to be a cyst now they believe so the meds helped lower prolactin but that's about it. It hasn't gotten bigger but it wasn't shrinking either. I guess I should check up with them again to see if there are any changes. My hair is falling out around the crown bad and I'm getting cystic acne on my jawline. B: Agh!! I know NOTHING!!! I've been on Depo on and off (currently on) for the past couple decades, does that mean my eggs are on meno-pause or are they gone? P.S. I am thanking you on behalf of my family for telling me this so that I can be WAY more aware of my behavior when the time comes *hug*

    • @MenopauseTaylor

      Oh, I am so sorry for this tardy reply. The RUclips comments on my end are supposed to line up all the new ones so that I don’t have to search for them one-video-at-a-time. And most of the time, it works. But occasionally (as in this case), a comment doesn’t appear in the line-up. I apologize profusely for the delay.
      Depo Provera has nothing to do with your eggs.
      Depo-Porvera is progesterone. It's a form of birth control. It will probably be good throughout PERI-menopause because peri-menopause is entirely due to low progesterone.
      But eventually, you'll become POST-menoapusal, at which time the problem is ESTROGEN DEFICIENCY. For that, progesterone will make things worse. That's when you'll need estrogen to make things better.
