I actually doubted myself if this was RGB/YPbPr displayed or just plain composite like in the yellow dongle. My guess is, PS1 RGB at 240p looks better upscaled (or rather, can't be passed through HDMI at all without upscaling) while PS2 component at 480p/576i is still good as is so upscaling is redundant and bad for the picture. I'll need a way to make the two into a hodgepodge Y-adapter so I could plug HDMI into one for PS1 and into other for PS2.
From my experience this is the best way to play PS2. I use GSM with component cables and a Portta component to HDMI adapter for a totally interference free experience :)
The bitfunx one works with GSM, 1080i, 720p, 480p resolutions fine. Some Ps2toHDMI has variations wich not work for progressive resolutuions and GSM. Funny thing, my bitfunx has not the green tint shown in the video... very strange...
It's all very confusing. I like what I see at 5:30 but the reviews are mixed. It seems to not work on some tv's, and for others it works for a few days or a few weeks then the screen turns green. This is a simple question. Why not still use your component cable, and use a component to HDMI adapter for the upscale? I believe that would be the best way to go, but you are limited to 480i output from the PS2, so no PS1 games.
Hello, the advantage of the dongle is that it captures the signal directly out of the console is therefore not affected by the quality of a cable, analogy as good as it is, the bass reflection is good, but very expensive which would put off 90 percent of people.
Duuude!!! I just got my PS2 to HDMI today. What a fantastic product. I'm lucky to be having an ideal experience with it. Oh and after reading many comments about the PS2toHDMI, it seems I'm the only one on earth able to also play PS1 games.
@Aimilios I know exactly what you mean. No, I didn't bought the "model G300" (the one that comes in that box). I bought one that came in a simple transparent plastic bag. The body/chassis is black plastic just like the one in this video. I've seen that many of these adapters have the audio jack made out of different materials and colors like metallic or black plastic, mine is yellow plastic (in case this helps you identify a particular version you are trying to find). I could list all the text that is in the sticker on the plastic bag if that helps you too somehow.

I don't see the blur as inherently bad, in fact the footage of the PS2 to HDMI looks very aliased. Sure it's the most raw clear image, but that also means pixellation up the ass in these low resolutions without a CRT. I think freemcboot can do upscale so it would be it interesting to compare
What capture card do you use in this video? I have Bitfunx upscaler, but the picture is awful and colours all are greeny, not so bright and delightful as in the video
Commenting again, a little bit later in the video actually just get my opinion in here but I actually like the look of an imperfect HDI picture, I actually like it to be a little bit soft because not only I think it hides the sharp edges of pixels, but it gives it like a little bit of a retro look. I plan on streaming PS2 games in future with a PS2 console for the experience and I think a perfect image makes it seem artificial like it’s being emulated on a PC and I don’t want that I want an imperfect image for the authentic experience
The BEST option is to run it to your TV or monitor thru an 4K/8K upscaler paired with a set of high-quality HDMI cables, and then output the signal at whatever resolution suits you... Of course, that will be more costly but definitely worth it in the long run cuz oftentimes they will also give more BOOST to the video signal and even provide extra additional inputs/outputs for your other game consoles and AV devices!
Yeah but first of all an upscaler like that costs A LOOOOOOOT, like 300$, if not more, and not all of them are simple to configure, OSSC costs a lot and requires TONS AND TONS of configuration, new Retrothink scaler doesn't require nearly even half as much configuration as OSSC but sometimes can even costs twice as much, and all other options are only for those few chosen ones who can spend thousands of dollars to simply have a slightly less pixels on Kratos nipples in GoW 2, is isn't really any good solution because a good solution is both effective and not UNGODLY expensive
The video implied that it would happen at least with the component signal, as he was talking about using progressive scan. However, I would guess it happens with both modes. I don't exactly have the deeper technical knowhow and vocabulary to explain it, but something similar to this can happen with a scaler called GBS-C if you set color sampling too high (4X), the picture receives a greenish tint on PS2. Different amounts of color sampling are more preferable for different systems. It's probably something related to that, except a basic adapter like this has all the more minor stuff like that hard set.
Thank you so much for this review, this video is exactly what I was looking for. It took me only one purchase to get a great converter for a dreamcast but I didn't have such luck with the ps2 but now i know what I should get. Thanks a bunch!
I have both a 39001 fat and a 77001 slim but mainly looking for one for my 39001. The only issue I have is when it comes to PS1 games working. I have the composite cable and a 13 inch CRT TV but I really prefer a somewhat bigger screen so looking to get something for my HDTV. I need to keep games in 4.3 and be able to play PS1 games on it which I think could be an issue with 240i resolution. I could just get a converter thing for compostie to HDMI since I have the composite but that's just taking the worst signal and blowing it up on a larger screen with no deinterlacing or whatever. Component I tired before and was good image though the cheap cable was not. My current TV doesn't have Component slots so maybe could get a component cable to HDMI adapter and a component cable. I think I still have the old component cable but it's a cheap made and makes a loud buzzing sound on the TV speaker audio. I also have an mClassic which would be cool to use for removing jagged edges but I think it only works on 720p outputs. I do have a backwards compatible PS3 CECHA01 model but I just want to play on original hardware again. Wish I had a good size CRT TV but no room for one right now.
The pound is great if you combine it with either the mclassic or mcable. I actually opted for this combo over my retrotink cus my mclassic doesn't play well with it, constant screen Flicker no matter what when combined. The retrotink I still use for my ps1.
Ps2 to Hdmi is really good and cheap but god i wish they make revision on the design especially with the small usb power position or maybe make new one without power input

I mentioned that in your previous vid and will repeat it. Your bitfunx is faulty. With mine it looks almost same in matter of colors as with PS2 to Hdmi. I guess it’s better then this generic one but it’s far from perfect. However that’s still best option for the price :/
I have the bitfunx since yesterday and it looks fenomenal. Not the green tint at all. I did not get the pound cable because every reviewer said it was to dark, so im satisfied with the bitfunx cable.
Hyperkin, Pound, RetroScaler kortom je krijg naar mijn idee wel meer van het zelfde. Bedoel hiermee te zeggen dat ze allemaal de zelfde input kwaliteit gebruiken. I have am Armor 3 PS2 to HD stick, it upgrades to 480P which is good, but it doesn't work with PS1 games, and the provided cables are very short so I basically have to have my PS2 right next to the outlet.
Hi! I have an adapter similar to the pound, it upgrades to 720p and it works really well, Could tell me about this adapter Armor 3 Ps2 to HD? Is it good? Does it provide the crisp emage?
Thank you very much for giving me some advice. I guess I’m planning on streaming PlayStation two games and future from a PlayStation two console. Thanks mush appreciated
So with these do you need a PC at all ? Or do all of these work straight from the PS2 to a TV? Using a PS2 Slim and LGC1 OLED TV - would like to get the best quality available.
@@ristiristi I was curious about the lag. Coming from the FGC, there have been many solutions proposed over the years. From deinterlacing devices, to scalers, line doublers etc... and one of the main things we look for is a low latency solution. I had even purchased a few display lag measuring devices to see if it's within my threshold of tolerance. And was wondering if any of these devices have had their output measured with such devices.
I'm trying to get a setup for my ps2 so I can record playthroughs. Problem is my component cable can't reach. So I figured if I could somehow make it capable of using hdmi cords I could use my 9 foot hdmi cables I use for my other consoles. But I dont know which one is best for what i'm trying to do.
I got a Linkfor cable for mine. But went back to the RGB cable since the TV I have it connected to still supports RGB plugs. Plus the RGB to HDMI I was using didn't like PS1 games.
I have one of bitfunx’s ps2-hdmi adapters, specifically one that doesn’t work with the ps1. When I use it with my ps2, there’s more blank space at the top than the bottom, and none of my Roku tv’s zoom settings resolve the issue. Do you know if the mclassic corrects this issue?
I got one of those cheaper PS2 to HDMI adaptors that you recommended, but I think I got a knock-off. There's two things that look off. The first is that each 6th or so pixel is being duplicated horizontally, creating rough edges along straight lines, especially ones that are near-vertical. The second one is that above a certain brightness level, colours are slightly washed out creating a jump in brightness where there should be a smooth gradient. Has anyone else had this issue?
I'm going to pair the black PS2 to HD adapter that plugs into the back of the PS2 with my mClassic. The converter should convert to either 480p or 720p, and then the mClassic should upscale that to 1080p. Can't wait to see what the results look like.
Some way some people claim not to need it. Normally you need to plug in the micro to usb in your ps2 for some extra power. You can also use a normal 5v (not fast) charger
Thought they'd be all the same. I wanted one with a few inches of cable attached so the adapter can be moved around but not great quality. Is the fat PS2 39001 fully compatible with the PS2 to HDMI adapter?
I do like this but when I try to play PS1 games on it, the screen go black. It makes a difference on the PS2 games though. I would recommend it. Make sure to switch out the cable if you decide to play any PS1 games.
That's because of PS1 output at 240i or whatever it is. Wonder if a component cable to HDMI adapter thing would work but I wouldn't be able to use my mClassic. I might have to try some things when I can.
@@darkhalf9134 Yep! I had to swap out the cable which is a bummer. I would like to try out one of those video converter boxes that can do all of that on the fly. I am enjoying the PS2 and PS1 a lot though! It brings back great memories!
the PS2 to HDMI adapter has a usb port and audio jack on it i see online. Do you have to use these for some reason or can I simply plug in the adapter and an hdmi. does the sound travel through the hdmi or can it only go through the audio jack port.
Kind of out of the blue, but I don't suppose you know of any cheap and affordable PS3 HDMI splitters that work with modern capture cards, like the Elgato HD60S? Ones that bypass the HDCP nonsense?
Will these work with an amplifier as long my amplifier is plugged into my TV via hdmi out or do these hdmi converters have to be plugged into the TV's hdmi?

Did you ever find a good PS2 to HDMI converter?
On "My Life in Gaming" channel PS2 to HDMI has two different model, the supperior model is support 240p signal so it works for PS1 too.
Yup, I have two of those I ordered from different sellers, both work fine on PS1 and PS2.
Why don't you buy any YPbPr to HDMI adapter?
Came here looking for HDMI solutions and left wanting to know what racing game that is with the yellow car. Looks really fun.

I just watched ur video now and it was wat av been looking for bro..... thanks champ
Smooth drifts in the first clip 👌
This is a simple question. Why not still use your component cable, and use a component to HDMI adapter for the upscale? I believe that would be the best way to go, but you are limited to 480i output from the PS2, so no PS1 games.
Hello, the advantage of the dongle is that it captures the signal directly out of the console is therefore not affected by the quality of a cable, analogy as good as it is, the bass reflection is good, but very expensive which would put off 90 percent of people.
so do all these adapters upscale the signal or just output 480p?
Duuude!!! I just got my PS2 to HDMI today. What a fantastic product. I'm lucky to be having an ideal experience with it.
Oh and after reading many comments about the PS2toHDMI, it seems I'm the only one on earth able to also play PS1 games.
The box of the adaptor you bought was was blue and had something like the windows logo on it?
@Aimilios I know exactly what you mean. No, I didn't bought the "model G300" (the one that comes in that box). I bought one that came in a simple transparent plastic bag. The body/chassis is black plastic just like the one in this video. I've seen that many of these adapters have the audio jack made out of different materials and colors like metallic or black plastic, mine is yellow plastic (in case this helps you identify a particular version you are trying to find). I could list all the text that is in the sticker on the plastic bag if that helps you too somehow.
@@holgerwikingsen713 this would help me a lot, I'm just trying to find the best solution, thank you very much!
@@aimilios5972 So, here is the text (as is) that comes on the sticker on the plastic bag:

The cheap best one did not work on 43inch tv, is that true?
Thanks for this video. I have seen a lot of these reviewed by other youtubers but I trust your opinion the most.
Yeah but first of all an upscaler like that costs A LOOOOOOOT, like 300$, if not more, and not all of them are simple to configure, OSSC costs a lot and requires TONS AND TONS of configuration, new Retrothink scaler doesn't require nearly even half as much configuration as OSSC but sometimes can even costs twice as much, and all other options are only for those few chosen ones who can spend thousands of dollars to simply have a slightly less pixels on Kratos nipples in GoW 2, is isn't really any good solution because a good solution is both effective and not UNGODLY expensive
ossc isn't perfect tho
Makes sense for the 4k, my tv in my room isn't, which has the ps2 to hdmi make the screen look too pixely
@@BalboaGoku Good call... It always makes sense to future-proof your favorite classic games consoles!
@@OtomoTenzi yeah, but it's a good thing my dad's tv downstairs is 4k! Not much room, but I'll see what I can do.
As for the Bitfunx solution, is the greenish video output the result from the RGB mode or the YPbPr mode? Or is it from both?
Just ordered the ps2 to hdmi hope it works better than the regular cables! My image is so blurry haha
Absolutely great video and the ps2s in the beginning are so gorgeous that light blue one is mint
Does the cheap PS2 TO HDMI dongle support PS1 games played on PS2?
Ps2 to Hdmi is really good and cheap but god i wish they make revision on the design especially with the small usb power position or maybe make new one without power input
yes that would be so cool that they make a better updated version 😳
Yep, it can't be that difficult to redesign these dongles so they can sit flush with the PS2
Hey man I love your content & I’ve got the PS2 HDMI adapter on the way now I don’t know how good the quality will be on the two that I have ordered but I guess I should let you know.
I’m having trouble figuring out which one of the Mc boot items I should order
Which one is best for ps2 slim?
I mentioned that in your previous vid and will repeat it. Your bitfunx is faulty. With mine it looks almost same in matter of colors as with PS2 to Hdmi. I guess it’s better then this generic one but it’s far from perfect. However that’s still best option for the price :/
I have the bitfunx since yesterday and it looks fenomenal. Not the green tint at all. I did not get the pound cable because every reviewer said it was to dark, so im satisfied with the bitfunx cable.
I like the pound option.
Very comprehensive and helpful, made my purchase according to this video.
What about the Levelhike cable?
Bro. Which racing game is that? I like it.
Love ur back catalog❤
2:12 is this yellow 4:53 this on ?????
What capture device do you use?
My ps2 is playing but in black and white. Anybody know how to fix this?
Hello, great video, will any of these solve my PS 2 issue with a game in a dark background scene? Like playing games that are in dark tunnels or at night which you cannot see anything at all. I had no issues on my old plasma tv. I have a 75 inch LG Led tv, not sure if that matters and did put into game mode for the picture with no difference. Your thoughts, many thanks.😊
i’m about to grab a ps2 this tomorrow and i got some games on the way!
I have a PS2 to HDMI that looks identical to the one you say is the best. The package says it's model: G300. It works great on my TV but if I try to connect it to my Elgato HD 60 S, the sound doesn't work properly. I've tried the different settings and can't seem to fix the issue. Any idea as to what is happening here?
Thanks.
I have the same issue with my Wii using HDMI or component into elgato
Great video it does help making a decision atleast I don't have to stress myself about which one to get I've been hunting a good output this should help
Idk if you've mentioned this before and ik this vid a year old but what do you use to capture footage and how's it setup? Do you have two monitors or just use an HDMI switcher?
Ive purchased a old flat tv, but a very old one, with scart, Chinch, S-Video, HDMI and component ports, then ive bought a normal scart cabel for my ps2, and the picture looks absolutely good, better then on a original crt tv in my opinion. But youll need a old flat tv, with the old ports.
Thanks very much for this video :) can the PS2 to HDMI handle PS1 games on the PS2 ?
Am I missing something? Why did you gloss over the usb cable requirement for the PS2 to HDMI adapter?
But to compare with CRT, can HDMI dongle compete, or nothing can beat good old TV with nice scanlines?
Well you said it, nothing compares to ctr. Been trying to get a Sony Trinitron but no luck.
@@Luke_Alves It's identical to Component Video, I couldn't tell the difference.
What is the resolution of the TV you tested these on??
Thank you very much for giving me some advice. I guess I’m planning on streaming PlayStation two games and future from a PlayStation two console. Thanks mush appreciated
So with these do you need a PC at all ? Or do all of these work straight from the PS2 to a TV?
Using a PS2 Slim and LGC1 OLED TV - would like to get the best quality available.
You still have to use component or composite cables to play PS1 CDs.
What game is that the one that was playing with the yellow car racing in the beginning of the video?
With you mentioning the ps2 to hdmi doesn't support RGB output and will just get a black screen, does that mean it's doesn't work for all ps2
Thanks for the review, but I do have a question. What about lag using these type of devices? Is it as bad as other reviews say it is?
I have one of this devices and it's working fine
@@ristiristi I was curious about the lag. Coming from the FGC, there have been many solutions proposed over the years. From deinterlacing devices, to scalers, line doublers etc... and one of the main things we look for is a low latency solution. I had even purchased a few display lag measuring devices to see if it's within my threshold of tolerance. And was wondering if any of these devices have had their output measured with such devices.
Id like to know the PS2 to HDMI do you need to plug in a speaker on the dongle to get sound or the sound would still default through he TV?
I'm trying to get a setup for my ps2 so I can record playthroughs. Problem is my component cable can't reach. So I figured if I could somehow make it capable of using hdmi cords I could use my 9 foot hdmi cables I use for my other consoles. But I dont know which one is best for what i'm trying to do.
So which one is the best for the black fat ps2. Thx
I got a Linkfor cable for mine. But went back to the RGB cable since the TV I have it connected to still supports RGB plugs. Plus the RGB to HDMI I was using didn't like PS1 games.
I have the original PS2 (fat version) can i use the PS2 to HDMI adapter?
Yes it works for me. Love it
Bought the ps2 to hdmi and I hope it clears up the blurry gameplay I have experienced on my 65 inch 4K tv
I have one of bitfunx’s ps2-hdmi adapters, specifically one that doesn’t work with the ps1. When I use it with my ps2, there’s more blank space at the top than the bottom, and none of my Roku tv’s zoom settings resolve the issue. Do you know if the mclassic corrects this issue?
thanks for testing and share with us
Great video man. Wish I had watched it before buying a piece of crap adapter!
will this work on an original ps2 or only with the ps2 slim?
I got one of those cheaper PS2 to HDMI adaptors that you recommended, but I think I got a knock-off. There's two things that look off.
The first is that each 6th or so pixel is being duplicated horizontally, creating rough edges along straight lines, especially ones that are near-vertical.
The second one is that above a certain brightness level, colours are slightly washed out creating a jump in brightness where there should be a smooth gradient.
Has anyone else had this issue?
What's the PS2 on the right with the pattern on the top? I've never seen one like that it's a fat PS2 but it kind of looks like a toploader?
In your opinion, which is the best? because call of duty 3 is extremely dark and there is no option to increase brightness within the game.
Does it fix the delays while playing? Especially guitar hero 2?
I'm going to pair the black PS2 to HD adapter that plugs into the back of the PS2 with my mClassic. The converter should convert to either 480p or 720p, and then the mClassic should upscale that to 1080p. Can't wait to see what the results look like.
Let me know how it goes. I have an mClassic as well hooked up to my PS3.
@@poopikins it actually looks a lot better. I think a backwards compatible PS3 would be better, but I can’t shell out the $250 for one right now.
Just want to be sure about something with the bitfunxt. Does it have a micro USB that requires you to plug it into another outlet?
So out of all 5 which do you think is best
the PS2 to HDMI adapter has a usb port and audio jack on it i see online. Do you have to use these for some reason or can I simply plug in the adapter and an hdmi. does the sound travel through the hdmi or can it only go through the audio jack port.
Ps2 to hdmi is it working on ps2 slim?
I have one for my slim and it works like a charm, just make sure you change the video output to component on the ps2 before pluging it in
Hi, The adapter PS2 TO HD utilizes the RGB or YPBPR signal?
Is theyre a solution for SNES, ps2 etc all together?
Hallo good sir, will I be able to use any HD adapter for my ps2 slim, or will some not work, because it's a slim.
Kind of out of the blue, but I don't suppose you know of any cheap and affordable PS3 HDMI splitters that work with modern capture cards, like the Elgato HD60S? Ones that bypass the HDCP nonsense?
Not sure what your budget is, but I got the hdmi splitter from avstar that has hdcp bypass, its on sale rn for $30 if that helps
Will these work with an amplifier as long my amplifier is plugged into my TV via hdmi out or do these hdmi converters have to be plugged into the TV's hdmi?
