I feel like they could've done really well if Richard acted as the face of the country, keeping morale up, while Simon worked to keep the country stable behind the scenes. They honestly could've done well with that system.

That would’ve been better plus if there’s two as long as they communicate good with every other the kingdom wouldn’t mind because they have a king who listens to them and a king who makes sure the place is running smoothly

This is why I love written cunning and very much evil steriotipical villains as the protagonists
Example: An aspiring queen who knows she is beautiful and the genes as well as the mind to capture people, making her very egocéntrica but that does not stop her from the main goal of providing a golden age to her dinasty after the dark age of her family.
A mad scientist who no one believes and ignored and called as a psycho simply because he thinks of finding a way to save an already doomed planet.
A bloodthristy warrior who will battle an entire army for the sake of protecting his family, even if he has to be really brutal so the rest of his enemies back off.
An apathetic person carrying out the weight that more emotional vulnerable people wouldn't take simply because he knows he can do it.

Except almost nowhere in the world monarchy does keep real power. In most cases king has purely representative, role with government and parlament being largely independent bodies (so basically a democracy).

....honestly this felt less like a theory and more like a rant and a summary rolled into one semi-passive aggressive package. I love it, so much. The entire tone of the video was just like "the actual AUDACITY these movies had, lemme tell you" and it was great.
I'm sorry, but the most annoying thing about this trilogy......is the gradual change in hair color from the character Amber....goes from light brown to bleach blonde......seriously? I mean, they did to Richard Dean Anderson in Macgyver, but that was in the 80's/90's people didn't have their crap together then, this happening in these movies is NO EXCUSE! I guess they figured, "she's married to royalty now, so she needs to have royalty looking hair" BULL. What, all blonde people are royalty now? I should've enlisted in the army......

Plot twist: the curse is real, and it still affected Amber's child. And in the fourth movie, the child grows up, murders both Richard and Amber, and Simon must save Aldovia from the maniac child.

I remember when this episode premiere and Matpat make the joke of: “none is gonna what this episode” I genially told myself: I will Matpat, because you made it, because you are on it. Coming from the future, I now know that I love this channel not only because of Matpat but because of the whole Theorist team. Amber shouldn't be allowed to be crowned Queen, she wasn't born Royalty and best she would be a princess or Duchess
I'm pretty sure that it only works in the way of the King (Which outranks the Queen). So a woman could marry a king and become queen without being royal (See Henry VIII's wives, all 6 are considered queens), however a man cannot marry a queen and become king due to the ranking (See the current Elizabeth II and her spouse Phillip)

Felarchy I can’t remember the term for it, there’s a specific name. Its typically a very strict thing. Men lift their wives to their status, while wives cannot lift their husbands to their status. There have been, I believe, a couple times in history where the high ranking female has made a ruling or law to bestow upon her husband equal status, but it’s not common at all. It may have even only been once in history. I can’t give exact names and dates, I remember reading about it, but I can’t recall the details.
Rather than a queen, she's more like a consort.

Me and my mum had a lovely time watching the 1st movie, not for the plot but for the continuity errors in 1 particular scene here scarf keeps magically moving and her sleeve keeps going up and down, once we noticed this we couldn't stop laughing. One of my fav memories

Why did Simon want to be king though? Was it because he truly wanted to help the country and had a sense of altruism or was it because he wanted what Richard had? It’s not about the ambition itself, it’s about the motive and how he was willing to step on his own cousin to get ahead instead of, I dunno, discussing it with his cousin first behind closed doors. He totally humiliated Richard and loved every second of it.

She literally had the callback dates changed so they couldn't make it. She wasnt really concerned with anyone other than herself. She also tries to gain troys affection with special treatment and connections despite him being with Gabriella. Like its really okay to purposely meddle in someone's relationship? Not to mention the way she walks over her own brother and tried to get all the other people to quit because all she cared about was troy.

When Mia Thermopolis would make a better monarch you know there's a problem. At least she donated a castle to the orphans and bought out a local souvenir seller of his products (she states that she'll pay him after the event) AND very publicly played with the orphans where potential donaters could see! Also, she moves to abolish an outdated sexist law about the rule of succession. It took two full movies for her to do anything royal besides learning the meaningless pomp and circumstance but at least it's SOMETHING.
I always thought Simon was hotter then the Prince, and always liked him better

Here's the difference between Richard and Simon, Richard never wanted the responsibilities of the King, only wanted to get the girl and have fun. Simon on the hand actually wanted the job and cared about the well being of the kingdom, people. But his actions looked sneaky so no one really believed him or even wanted to give him a chance. I kinda wish they didn't make Simon the villain cause he doesn't even look like a villain, it's not like he was manipulating people or trying to get them harmed. He was very blunt about his goals and didn't lie unlike the main characters.
Let's just hope the next movie will include Simon leading a worker revolution to Change the monarchy to a communist regime leaded by Simon.

Matpat, you were wrong
To me the worst thing the protagonists did was probably the economic disaster and the many lives that got upended all thanks to the king's focus on his personal interests over the kingdoms. Even if didn't trust his cousin, he could have hired someone else who knew economics (after running a background check on said person) and listened to their advice. Maybe even hire multiple people and compare their advice
Wait why is the royal family in charge of economics in this movie? Is this movie set in a country with absolute monarchy, instead of a constitiutional monarchy inwhich the royal family holds no real power and is mostly ceremonial? If so, this movie is waaaay more problematic than listed in this video.
rasnac it probably is a monarchy because that’s the kind most people think of when they think of a kingdom in any form. Besides, what’s the point in having a royal family if they are just there for looks? Better off just getting rid of them at that point..
There are constitutional monarchies where the king plays a larger role. In fact, it wouldn't be a constitutional monarchy if the king DIDN'T play any role.
Take Imperial Germany for example, where the Kaiser effectively has the power of a president, but stays in office for life.

My Mom and I watched the trilogy and she was so surprised that I called out every plot point way before it happened. This is also the woman who has me watch hallmark movies with her every year. I have learned their gimmicks, I could probably write my own movie and people would love it.

Despite the scheming, I would fully support Simon as king. Unlike Richard, Simon is proven to be competent and a go getter. Any proper statesman knows full well your duty is to the people. A duty that Richard so callously ignores when he brushes off both the peace treaty meant to prevent war and save lives as well as the general strike meant to raise awareness that he needs to help his people through an economic crisis. In short Simon cares about his people and has shown himself to have both the competence and initiative to be a proper leader.
