As an Aussie born in the 70's and who grew up around these cars and with Mad Max 1 and 2 I'm loving these resto videos. I'm kind of glad I just discovered them today though since they come out so far apart. I've just binge watched these first 4 episodes this morning. Now I'm hoping I don't have to wait months or more for the next episode! Great work on these cars guys!
We are so glad you found our videos and are enjoying them! Welcome to the fun. We do put out content with some regularity. However for series videos such as this Interceptor build it can take a bit. The work itself goes by somewhat quickly, but even still collecting the footage takes some time. More so because we have to take often hours of video and edit it down to a watchable video while keeping the narrative and documenting all the elements of the build for everyone. That can be a task that absorbs an enormous amount of time. Still we will try to get the next episode out ASAP. Glad you got to binge watch the series so far! Thank you so much for watching and for your comment!
It's great to see all these years later that Mad Max probably has a stronger following than ever. It's also very cool that these amazing cars are being appreciated and treated right. As a kid I remember just how many use to be stripped out dead in wrecking yards. In my view they are the best looking cars we ever produced down here. The videos really show those unfamiliar with these old beasts how much it takes to get the metal work done. They have an awesome back end with a lot of shape but damn they do rust bad there. I have had to do pretty much everything you have tackled so far so I can imagine how many hours of work has gone into making these videos. I am looking forward to see the plenum/wiper panel area repairs in a future episode, fun and games there also! Rust in these as you have shown is the gift that keeps on giving! Fantastic videos and great work!
Thank you very much for the kind words! We agree how amazingly cool these cars are. Mad Max has really had a resurgence, in particular since Fury Road came out (regardless of how some may feel about the movie itself). We do see plenum rust quite often. We just posted the 1st video in a new series showing a car that REALLY has rust there (and almost everywhere else). Check it out if you like here: ruclips.net/video/hNjp6CDIVPc/видео.html
Rose tattoo playing in the background. Ironbar Bassey AKA Angry Anderson. Nice work Lady and Gentleman. I'm restoring a 1974 GS Fairmont coupe that i was going to turn into a MM replica but as you cant register a MM replica here in Australia (how ironic) the parts went into the garage roof and she's well on the way to going back to stock though still satin black on gloss black. Thanks for the upload and for keeping the dream alive.
Rose Tattoo is awesome! We love Cold Chisel, Midnight Oil, AC/DC and tons of other cool Aussie bands. We wish you lots of great success with your GS! It is sad that a well done Mad Max build is not allowed on the roads of Australia, but we have heard that from many of our mates there. We will keep at it building cars and making fun videos to share! Thanks for watching and for the cool comment!
Metalwork,, on a Falcon Coupe. Grind out the bog and discover little car left. That is a really good one,,the A pillars are not rotten and cracked. And the RIGHT side of the car is the drivers side of the car Rear wheel arches, rear of roof, boot gutters and tailight panel and possibly rear rails and boot floor
Indeed. We did start with media blasting the car after tear down (in episode 1), instead of grinding. You can see how rough (or not depending on your opinion) it was in that video. In Episode 2 & 3 as well as here in 4 you can check out all the metal work we did. You nailed it on a lot of what has been done so far. You might note are are referring to the right side as the drivers side in this video. If you want to check out the other episodes see the links in the description above.
Mate thats good work. Some of these things were full of rust even in the 80's. Good to see them getting fixed up nice, even if it took them going overseas to make it happen. Just a bit of trivia. Did you guys know that the original ideas and sketches for the coupes were done on the back of a napkin in a resteraunt. The final design didnt look that differant. Love the videos 👍.
@@MadMaxCars Mate I love what you guys are doing. I sometimes wonder if any of my old girls have ended up in the US getting the the treatment from you guys. Between my sister and myself we had at least one of every model falcon coupe. I wish I still had one of them now. 🤷♂️
@@l1a146 It is possible. Not sure what the odds are though, as there are less than 200 total XC,XB,XC Falcons in the USA (including Sedans, Utes, Wagons, Panelvans and Coupes).

'Is my sarcasm coming through?' Hahahahahaaaaaa! As a guy that uses sarcasm on a regular basis, I can say, yes, it is!!! Fantastic, impeccable work as always. Cheers from Argentina, guys!
Greetings Jeff. I have passed on the message to Troy. He said "Yo!" and gave a big thumbs up! He also said to get in touch with us and come to by the shop. Feel free to reach out through through www.madmaxcars.com
We can build the Mad Max 2 style fuel tanks as functional fuel tanks with baffles etc. to prevent sloshing. Its all about what the client wants in their build.
Very glad you are enjoying it! Each build is a little (or a lot) different, depending on things like how much restoration the base car needs, and client choices such as drivetrain and what custom touches are wanted etc. So it actually varies quite a bit from build to build. If you are interested in having a car built, the guys on our team could give you a better idea of how long your specific build might take. You can reach them at www.madmaxcars.com
There is a lot of work in fixing the rust or damage, it's crazy how much time it actually takes, but it's worth doing it right 👍🏾👍🏻 I did some in my past just want to do another project one day but getting a new job first then get more tools 😀
It definitely takes time and the patience (plus skills) to do it the right way. As you said, it is absolutely worth the effort. Having the right tools makes a HUGE difference as well. Best of luck with the new job and all your future projects!
Thank you! Rust prevention urgency on the fresh metalwork depends a bit on your shop conditions. Ours is clean dry and warm, plus we do an epoxy primer on the whole body right after media blasting before we start repairs. Many of the new panels already have E coating on them which is quality enough to paint over and prevents rust. So ultimately there is not a whole lot of bare metal, and it all gets coated soon after all the metalwork is complete. So I guess the short answer is, for us we can get to it when we are ready.
Did you guys test fit with the guard/fender? In Aus a few guys have fitted those rocker panels and the gap between the rocker and guard was too small. Turns out the rocker is 6mm too long.
Absolutely! As you might notice from the video, we actually did that while they were simply held in with clecos. Welded only after checking placement multiple times.
What ever happened to this car? No updates on it for 7 months. Was it ever finished? Love the vids! First saw you guys on the episode of JY Empire working on his interceptor.
We are nearing completion on editing the next episode. It actually takes quite some time, as we first have to film the work as it happens, then edit what is often 10 + hours of footage down to a 20-30 minute video that is hopefully fun to watch. We had a blast shooting the JYE show. Thanks for watching!
